CSX is my local carrier, yet since conrail, i haven't really liked any other railroads (class 1s), I like some shortlines but, Last year I went fly fishing in the Patapsco river In maryland and watched 3 coal trains go by with in 2 hours, I started to get my interest in csx operations, locomotive, and so on. they are my favorite operating class 1 right now. Norfolk southern isn't really appealing to model, I think a csx old main line layout would be very cool!

I accept CSX because it's now my local freight carrier, (NS actually is on the nearby lines, but don't run thru trains just locals) but we have noticed a lot less to see since they took over, despite claims to the contrary.   They have put on a good show in the past though.

It's been hard, but I've learned to love CSX.  There is a certain gritty, decaying, runner-up charm about CSX and its various scenes.  And one has to love the heritage railroads they came from.

And they seem to have much better management now, focused on results and investing in the road.  Hopefully the Brit investors won't screw them up and start having them eat their seed corn again.

So I've made my peace with CSX and railfan them now when I can.  That's my post on this Official Spot for CSX.  Wink [;)]

wow ......this is an old post .....but what the heck lets get it rolling again ........

 I live in Western PA and we have NS mainline on one side of the river and CSX on the other side of the river (TRAIN HEAVEN).....Pittsburgh also has a very nice CSX yard near Kennywood.... I believe the biggest yard I ever saw for CSX is over near Russel/Wurtland KY ....For you folks in Huntington ..I believe Marshall U also as a loco paint scheme for CSX...My Nscale layout has the mix of the 70's late 80s were the B&0,C&O and new at the time CSX paint schemes are all working on the same mainline.

About the only trains that run on my csx line are UP coal drags.
I like NS but CSX has the B&O.

Three or four railfans gather almost every evening at the Alexandria, VA, AMTRAK station.  Fairly heavy CSX traffic in both directions, and sometimes one parks there.  Makes it easy to get fine details of power and rolling stock.  It's easy to know when trains are coming because CSX crews report each signal observed.  You can also observe the monitors through the office window.  I was never bothered by police at this station, even at midnight. 

Last time I was there was in 2006, and I noted that CSX hadn't yet repaired the many loose spikes and rotten ties that are easily visible.

Wow this was buried.............any how saw the coolest thing at the loco shop here in Huntington.............out back of the shop I saw a gp38 with 2 flat cars marked DODX which is the Dept. Of Defence right.........well on the backs of the flats there were 4 M1A1s on the cars. All still in there desert paint with tactical markings. Now I have the excust to combine tanks and trains on the layout. I think I like tanks as much as I like trains. Any way there you go..........

I , too live in DC (or near it at any rate) anfd I row on the Anacostia River next to the CSX main due south. I have seen the tropicana train many times as well as the circus train. Yes folks it exists.

I am a cxs fan.
I live about 2 miles from the brownsyard in sayerville nj, this yard is shared by cr and ns.
This yard is very active.
Also from my i can see down the street the amboy secondary
I have already seen the PAM box car and would like to get one for my layout.

Even that fate is preferable to seeing the Old Main Line turned into a bike trail...! (And I prefer Armor Yellow+Red over black-and-white any day! [:D] )

I am a C&O fan (which, I guess, automatically makes me a Chessie System fan which, I guess automatically makes me a CSX fan) but I am also grimly conscious of economic factors (the balance in my checkbook might reveal otherwise) and CSX is the weak financial link in the Class 1s. I don't want to reign on anybody's parade but I'll bet dollars to donuts - that's an old Humphry(?) Bogart line if I remember right - that within five years after this next round of mergers - and we'll get our first true transcon out of this one - CSX will disappear under a heavy coat of Armour Yellow paint.

An aside for aquadan005: been there; done that; bought a t-shirt. My frustrations here in the far, far reaches of the wild, wild west is with Santa Fe/BNSF, however. I do envy youse guys back there! Occasionally I will catch a CSX unit in a lash-up out here but they are really infrequent and often (read: frequently) I am cameraless. Got some photos in Cincinnati last summer; was looking forward to going to Philly this summer but that red-ink in my checkbook got in the way.

I love CSX. Its the best railroad in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If only they had more opperations where I am.

Hello fellow CSX fans, been awhile hasn't it![:D]

I just picked up an Atlas C40-8 with the number 7501 painted on it on sale from MB Klein's; I'm feeling too lazy to change the number, but I want to paint on yellow ends (the "csx-yg" scheme). Trouble is, the CSX photo archive doesn't show any pix of that unit painted with a yellow nose - only Stealth and Bright Future. Have any of you ever seen that unit with its ends painted yellow?

Regardless, I'm too busy to print up any new number decals. I'm gonna paint the ends yellow and leave the number unchanged, and refer the rivet counters to the mistletoe under the shirttail...

i guess im lucky enough to have grown up about 100 yards from one of the busiest unit train lines on the system in St Albans WV (Trains actually did an article on the line a LONG time ago and had some great pictures from about 1/8th of a mile from the house i grew up in ) train spotting couldnt have been any easier for me growing up

well actually it was kind of a problem when you were trying to get anywhere fast and they'd have the road blocked for a LONG time about every 90 minutes... lol

What tracks are you referring to? I live about 9 miles south of you just outside Philly. I have a set of tracks nearby but all I ever see down here are tra***rains and UPS specials pulled by AC44's . Do you get to see any older locos? Maybe GP's or SD's ?
