Good Morning Diners.  Janie, a large coffee and some cinnamon toast please.

Edit:  Top of the Page!  Not sure if anyone else is a cinnamon toast fan, but I'll have Janie make more just in case.

Was looking forward to a nice weekend of nothing coming up.  That changed yesterday creating work for me, but it will be good.  We want to cut down a flowering cherry tree at our house that I need a friends help with and we figured out Friday will actually work for both of us.  Only took two months to find a day where our schedules matched up.  It's a beautiful tree, but it has to go.  Whoever planted it placed it too close to the house so it has to constantly be trimmed to keep it from rubbing, it is growing up through the power line to the house, and it's roots have found the sewer.  It is also right against the driveway and walk to the front door (which we rarely use, but still) and with really low branches it makes it a bear to walk or park under.  Trimming won't help that either as the trunk basically ends at about 5 feet and it becomes branch city after that.  The last straw was it actually producing fruit, which it did not do the first seven years we were at the house.  Last year it produced a little, this year it produced a ton and it was a massive mess.

The Kalamazoo, Michigan train station.  Formerly that of the Michigan Central Railroad.  This was the station I took my first ever train ride out of, riding the train to Battle Creek if I recall.  The train ride was a birthday present a couple years after getting into trains as a kid.  I hope I never forget it.

Just have time to drop in real quick and say hi, but I will certainly share in the cinnamon toast.

Thank you.

For some reason, the opening forum page on my computer shows no one has posted in over seven hours, but I see posts here.  I may have to clear the computer and restart.

Mike, thanks for the toast.  Good luck with cutting down the tree.  Be careful!  (Do I sound like your mother?)

it is growing up through the power line to the house,

Hi Mike,

Have you considered having your utility company remove the part of the tree close to the power lines? They would be able to shut the power off to make the job safer.

Cheers!!

Haven't had cinimmon toast in years, same for raisen bread.

The house next door is a rental.  Dead and badly overgrown shrubbery.  I complained to the HOA which is operated by the realty company that manages the rental.  The new renters also balked at the clause that they were supposed to "maintain the property".  Landscapers have been there for the last 3 days.  If it was my home, I'd also cut down 5 or 6 trees that are plastered to the side of the house.

The Orioles Camden Yards is next to an old B&O warehouse and Camden station:

And the first shots of the Civil War happened when Mass troops were marching from President St Station to Camden and Confederate sympathizers decided to bring rocks to a gun fight.

Good morning everyone. Chloe, I will take a toasted bagel with butter and a cup of black coffee.

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

We are still getting rain storms several hours earlier than normal for our traditional seasonal weather pattern. The meteoroligists say the extremely high Gulf of Mexico water temperatures are causing this.

We passed the "doomsday" water temperature already. Where it was predicted long ago that if the Gulf of Mexico reached this temperature it would turn into a constant weather machine churning out endless hurricanes. It did not happen.

That prediction was made by a hack trying to sell books decades ago, but people are using it as proof that climate change is a myth.

I don't understand how some people reach the conclusions they arrive at.

Hi Everyone,

Brunhilda, coffee with cream, please.

I would echo the sentiments on the cinnamon toast, but I became G free 9 years ago; however, I'll share a method of making it that my mother taught me.  She would butter one side of bread and place the buttered bread in a baking tray.  Then she'd sprinkle sugar on it and then the cinnamon.  She'd put the tray in the broiler at I think around 450F, wait until the sugar started boiling, then flip the toast over and let them brown.  That was a yummy treat.  Later on I modified the process.  I'd spoon on the sugar to get a thin layer.  Then let the sugar boil to make a crust like Crème Broule and did not flip the toast over.  That made it both crunchy and chewy.  Yes, the process was a little involved, but it tasted great!

Less is more,...more or less!

I used to hate Mondays.

The day I always hated was Friday. That was the day that I could not put anything off until tomorrow. I could not leave the office on Friday until everything was done and filed.

I remember several Fridays being stuck in the office until after 9:00 with no end in sight.

Those days are not missed at all.

-Kevin

I hated 4:00pm, the parent company was in Chicago and it was 3:00 pm there, and they always wanted something done before they left for the day which meant we would be at the office till 6:00 pm or later.

Gidday Chloe, I’m probably far too late, but is there a slice of Mikes cinnamon toast left, please?

I hope that things go as well as can be for Dawn, David.

It took a while to develop and then promptly did an abrupt about turn, but my fictional LACHLAN RIVER RR is very (extremely) loosely based on the Clinchfield RR.
I guess while a lot of the old depots did not survive, it is pleasing to see that many have been repurposed and therefore saved.
I see that the Erwin depot is now the towns public library…

…and that the Kingsport Depot now houses the Chamber of Commerce and a bank.

Thank you Bear  (and others).  Like I have said, Dawn has good days and not so good ones.  I hate it when the days are not good.  I feel powerless to help.

Today she is much better.  Big Smile

There is no joy in feeling powerless when attending a loved one, and while it may be cold comfort, you, at least, are there!!

test

That worked.

Hello diners!  I feel like I'm pushing my luck typing anything in here right now.  I wanted to wish Dave a speedy recovery from his knee surgery, but couldn't comment in that thread.  Dave, I hope you see it here.

The messy flowering cherry tree is down.  It all went well, except for getting the stump out.  That was really stubborn.  In using the trunk to try to pry the stump out we ended up pulling the sidewalk over about 6 inches from the roots not breaking but simply bending with the trunk.  My friend that helped me has taken loads of trees down and said this one was the toughest one he has encountered.  He said he has taken trees down with trunks 50% larger diameter than this tree had and had an easier time getting the stump out on the larger ones.  At least its done.

Good morning, everyone!  I haven't had a good diner breakfast in several days, so I would like bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.

I hope Dave is doing well.  I'm sure he will have to endure lots of physical therapy, but it will be worth it.

Last week I commented that we were having cool weather.  I never should have said that.  Because of my careless comment, we are having five days in a row of over 100°F with very high humidity.  Even that wouldn't be so bad, but it's worse coming so soon after the cool weather.  It's time to move to a cabin by a lake north of the border.

If you click on this Flickr account, there's an interesting story behind this track geometry BNSF train route:

Not a train station, but a Pony Express station about 70 miles west of me.  The Pony Express route passed a short distance south of my town.

I hope everyone has a great day, and I hope the forum continues to keep us all connected.

Whale the world is changing. We do not get floods here, ant even flash floods. Those are things that beloing in the valley, we are on a watershed divide. Rain in the back yard flows north to the Knife River, abut twenty miles away. Rain in the front yard flows south to the Heart River about twenty miles away.
