Hi Everyone,
Brunhilda, coffee with cream, please.
I think the colorful diesels is a good idea. Also, I believe we did bridges a few months ago, but what about depots. There are a lot of different depots in a wide variety of shapes and sizes from Grand Central Station to tiny flagstops tucked away in the middle of nowhere. That could prove to be interesting.
I would vote to stay out of Ukraine at this time. The tragedy of the whole thing could provoke political rhetoric that could cause trouble for the offender(s). Sorry Lion, I just think the topic would be too controversial.
Today I cut two fingers with a Santoku kitchen knife trying to Dice an onion. It's not the first time I've cut myself with that knife. Just glad my wife wasn't there at the time. The object was to dice the onion and freeze it to use in smaller quantities later. Well, that project is now postponed.

BroadwayLionMe thinks it is important to keep the trials and the distress of others in front of us, This war affects everyone in one way or another and it may well be the first act in another World War. It looks a lot like Hitler's Invasion of Poland. We all know what came from that. We must keep the whole world in our prayers at this time.
Brother Lion.... While I agree with everything you said, it is very valuable to have someplace to escape from the horrors of many realities. This is one place that provides that haven. My vote would therefore be NO!

My wife's niece is in Ukraine. No idea why. She met, married and had a baby with a Ukrainian during Covid. They could not change her visa from visitor to permanent, she could not get a birth certificate. She lives away from the fighting. At first things weren't different except air raid sirens. Now there are many backouts and it is cold. Food is still plentiful. Internet service was good, now not so much. Her parents sent her one of Elon Musk's satellite receivers so they could keep in touch. IMO they should get her and their grandson out. I could say more but it would trigger my suspension. All of us live in dangerous times.
However I doubt we know much about Ukraine rail system to make it a topic. I would vote for something else.

Cool
I hate to rain on LION's parade, but I don't know if I can manage a whole month worth of Ukraine. Even if it's all pristine photos from the past, just the current mention of the nation creates emotional and attitudinal chaos of all sorts, perhaps in many.
Then again, perhaps Brother Elias made the suggestion tongue-in-cheek.

The end of the month is coming, I suggest that we take our diner to the Ukraine!

You didn't miss much in the SF game. After the injuries the SF players got frustrated and started taking cheap shots, which cost them dearly in penalties.
Good morning from the West Coast where it is clear, -4c, and just starting to get light outside.
Just getting ready to head into Vancouver, the wife has a couple of medical appointments with specialists, so I will dump her off and go fix my son's stove. Sounds like a couple of burned-out elements.
hon30critter Hi folks! We have to choose a theme for the February Diner and I really like Brent's suggestion that we show our favourite and/or some attractive locomotive paint schemes. If anyone has any other ideas please speak up. If we don't use your idea for February then we can certainly put it to use in future months. As usual I would be happy to move the Diner, but since the theme is Brent's idea, perhaps he would like to do the honours. Please let me know what you decide Brent. Cheers!! Dave

Dave, it would be great if you can open the diner for Feb. I have a busy couple of days and may just forget. Thanks.
I was thinking
"Locomotive/railway paint schemes and logos. Changes, one-offs and oddballs, and how they have evolved over the years".
Best go warm up the Toyota for my queen and turn on her electric seat. Gotta love these modern luxuries, makes being old a little easier on the old bones.
All the best to all.

Good morning, diners. Bacon, eggs, and black coffee.
Dave is asking for ideas for the new month. I can't believe how fast January flew by. Locomotive paint schemes sounds good to me.
I loved the Chiefs-Bengals game last night. Exciting to the last play of the game.
I also enjoyed watching the Barrett-Jackson car auction the past days from Phoenix. I see there are many people who have a much higher amount of disposable hobby cash than I do. My age is showing. Cars that my friends were driving in high school now going for over $200,000 (of course, they were in much better condition than the high school cars) mean car-collecting is a rich man's hobby.
Have a great day, everyone.

hon30critterYou can post anything related to trains, real or modeled, that suits your fancy! This should be a very interesting month!
Today I have a picture of a nifty repurposed boxcar I saw in Georgia.

Living the dream.
Good Morning Diners. Happy Monday. Chloe, wheat toast with homemade strawberry jam and a coffee please.
Missed the Eagles/49ers game yesterday, but listened to much of it in the car. With all due respect to the Eagles, sounds like that was more a case of a team losing a game due to injuries (both of the 49ers only quarterbacks) than anything else. Not saying the Eagles wouldn't have won, but would like to have seen both teams stay healthy. What a game between the Chiefs and Bengals though. Incredible that Kansas City ended up winning with the number of injuries they sustained during that game. When you are running out wide receivers that were just pulled up from the pratice squad and all four tight ends just so you have healthy players that can catch, that usually doesn't bode well.
Have a good day everyone.
Mike
Good morning

Remains of NZR Uc366, 4-6-0 dumped at Oamaru as foreshore protection, reclaimed 2008.
Hi Bear,
When you say "reclaimed" what was the reason for pulling it out of the shore? Was it to reduce pollution from the rusting iron, or is there a possibility that it might be restored? It looks to be pretty far gone for restoration, but what do I know?
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I wonder if this is related to Brent's photo?
Hmmmm.... Might this be related as well?
Nah! Probably not...

Good Afternoon,
A chilly -11F right now and not any better for the rest of the week.
My wife has favourites for the sound of pianos. She likes Baldwins and Petrofs the best. She finds the pianos made in the orient are slightly metallic which she doesn't like.
My S 3 came yesterday and it is a beauty. Trainz rated it as like new but it is new and has never been out of the box as all the seals were intact. I have to change the light bulbs before installing a decoder. As luck would have it I only have one bulb in my stock so it will only have a headlight unless I can find another bulb. I have a DN135 decoder that should fit fine provided the leads aren't too long. It will need a lubrication too.
Time for a cuppa.

I also have staff. My daughter use to drive the pickup around the ranch when we were up there from a young age. She also use to cut the grass.
They grow up so fast and soon it is off to University overseas. I had to Huck Finn the job off to someone else.
DRIVING the golf cart? Surely you jest. This is why I have staff to do the driving for me.

Judy got me to go to Dave & Busters to play the Wizard of Oz game she likes yesterday. We have been going there for years and finally have enough points to get one of the bigger prizes.
Come to find out, the young man told me that the drone I've had my eye on, takes videos through your phone and the Bluetooth range isn't very good. The last thing wanted is more things to do with a phone around here, so I'll wait till something else comes along.
Your not supposed to keep track of the money one spends to get enough points for one of those silly prizes, or it would take the fun out of going there
JaBear And without further derailing the current WPF, with “Baked Beans” here’s a song from my youth.
Good morning, diners. It's donut day.
While you guys up north are really, really cold, we're just cold. Our high today will be 9°F. Another good day to stay inside and work on the RR.
Bear, I hope the weather lets up some before too much damage is done. I know I've seen that Baked Beans video, but I can't remember it. It's a better video than a lot of modern groups could put together.
Big day sports wise -- The Chiefs play the Bengals tonight. I hope Mahomes is healthy enough to play well.
Have a great Sunday, everyone.
GMTRacing Bear - hope you are far enough south to have avoided the deluge that hit Auckland this week. People wading around in water above knee deep looks like no fun at all

Evening diners. Flo, a big slice of coconut cream pie please.
MisterBeasleyfirst went to our local firehouse for a chili cook-off between local restaurants, and made several beer stops on the way home. Perfect way to end the week.
Well, I accomplished a major snafu today. I was test fitting a Woodland Scenics cast hydrocal tunnel portal and some retaining walls. The portal fell over and broke in half. It's sitting now with titebond on it and a good rubber band holding the halves tightly together. Wish me luck.
