hon30critterYou can post anything related to trains, real or modeled, that suits your fancy! This should be a very interesting month!
Here is some very nicely maintained trackwork.

Good Morning Diners. Chloe, coffee in a Rio Grande mug please.

BATMANhow long is the drive to get her
BATMANMy daughter got sent photos of a larger bone sent to her from back East by the Feds to see if she could identify what it was. She also got a partial DNA workup that is proving a little strange, to say the least.
We're going out to dinner tonight as soon as my daughter gets home. I can't wait. We rarely go out to dinner anymore. Since Covid hit and more sit down type restaurants started offering take-out, that's what we usually end up doing when we're not cooking. My wife is a bit of a home body and would rather just eat at home. This will be a welcome change in my book!
Hope everyone has a great Friday!

gmpullmanOur cat Whoopie just passed away at age eighteen.
Hi Ed,
Sorry to hear about Whoopie. Our last pet passed away in 2005 and we still miss him. He was a beagle/shepard cross. Looked like a shepard but was only 2/3rds the size and his ears drooped.
Cheers!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good morning from the cloudy edge of the Salish Sea where it is 6c.
Winter will be returning this weekend with temps dipping significantly, I will be putting an extra layer on for my daily scoot.
Ed, sorry to hear Whoopie has moved on, she had a good run in a good home. Needless to say, we have had to say goodbye to a lot of four-legged family members over the years and it never gets any easier. I have accompanied my wife sometimes when she has gone to people's homes to euthanize their beloved pets and we were soon shedding tears along with all the family members as they would say goodbye.
Mike, my daughter may be coming home this weekend as well, she needs a puppy fix. It all depends on her workload. I have dusted off the grand piano and look forward to the house being filled with music. Fingers crossed she makes it.
Mike, how long is the drive to get her? The things we do for our kids and for the chance to see them. I may put her on a float plane for the return trip as it shortens the travel time by quite a bit sometimes.
My daughter got sent photos of a larger bone sent to her from back East by the Feds to see if she could identify what it was. She also got a partial DNA workup that is proving a little strange, to say the least. She sent the wife the works to get an opinion, my wife has no clue what it is from. My wife did a lot of work identifying animal remains for the authorities over the years.
The boss has gone to Costco, I was supposed to go but I guess she saw how thrilled I was at the prospect and told me to keep an eye on the puppies. I'll take that trade any day.
The Vancouver boat show is coming up, I may go just to see what's new. I haven't been in years but still hold an interest in both power and sail as I spent a lot of time doing both the first 40 years of my life.
John, good luck with the Dermatologist. I worked and played outside my whole life so the scraper has been coming out for me on occasion. The worst part of getting the face frozen is it makes me sneeze nonstop for quite a while. The Dr. I see I know quite well as our sons are great friends and we would share a beer or two when dropping the kids off.
Dump Mountain/Denver and Rio Grande.
All the best to all.

"All of the world's problems are the result of the difference between how we think and how the world works."
Thats a tough thing to go through, as a pet is another member of the family. Sorry about your friend Whoopie, Ed.
John
I also offer my condolences for Whoopie, Ed. Good long life for a cat. Our cats are both younger at under 2 and under 3. They are strictly indoor cats, and they don't seem to ever want to go out. They will probably outlive me.
It's been mid 40s in the daytime here in Delaware. We have had zero snow this winter.

This is a very small Consolidation on display in Florida. According to the plaque at the display it was operational in to the 1960s.
Ed: I was sad to hear about Whoopie. What a beautiful cat.
Good morning, everyone.
Mike, that's a great-looking breakfast. Bacon and eggs! I'm not sure how you knew what I wanted, but thanks!
Mike, I really worried last week when Patrick Mahomes went out, but Henne seemed to fill in pretty well, taking them 97 yards for a TD. I just read this morning that Mahomes said he is playing, hurt or not. The Chiefs are my second favorite team, and my first team when the Saints aren't in the playoffs.
I have only a couple of minutes -- I'm heading out to my yearly visit with the dermatologist, who will find more bad spots to cut off. I don't think I've ever gone to him and come out of the office without bandaids on.
We're having a little thaw before the storm. I think we will be above freezing for a day or two before more snow hits on Saturday. I guess it's winter.
Have a great day, everyone.
This is an unused trestle along the White Pass and Yukon Railroad. If you are ever heading to Alaska or norther Canada, this train is well worth the time. I didn't take this picture, though.

Good Morning Diners. Brunhilda, cinnamon toast and a coffee in a New York Central mug please.
My oldest is coming home from school for the weekend tomorrow and I can't wait. Usually I'm the one running down to get her, but since tomorrow is my Friday at work (I get every other off), my in-laws are going to get her. Yay! Now, I'll be taking her back Sunday, so I'll miss the NFC championship game, but will be home in time to watch my Chiefs in the AFC championship. It will be a good weekend, even if the Chiefs don't win.
Ed, thanks for posting the video. The thought occured to me, and maybe someone here knows, how were these distributed back in the day? Seems kind of long to be shown as a "preview" at a movie theater. Infomercial in the early days of television?
Also, sorry to hear about Whoopie. 18 is pretty good for a cat. I'm sure she lived a much better life at your house than if left at the plant. How did you get the photo with the mouse? That's incredible.
Have a good day everyone.
Edit: Top of the page! Breakfast is on me.
This film is akin to 'Steam Locomotive 101' It answers many questions about the servicing and operating of a steam locomotive:
Our cat Whoopie just passed away at age eighteen. She was a rescue from the GE plant where I w**ked. Wilson and the other cats are planning a memorial service at the caboose when the spring thaw comes around. Catnip and Friskies treats all around!

Cooking a 20 pound turkey from frozen would take 7-8 hours.
Not really the kind of meal you prepare from "who wants to stay for dinner".
I showed up at 1700hrs and was put to work peeling the potatoes, carrots and cut up the broccoli and cauliflower, and shredded the cheese. Of course, I got myself a bottle of wine first. I always like to have a glass of wine while doing that stuff. I think she said it took 5-1/2 hours. We have two convection ovens so that may have made a difference. We ate at 7:30 and they all left around ten. Five of them were up from the U.S. and staying at a hotel and had nothing else to do.
maxmanI'd like to know how she got the bird thawed out that quickly.
She cooks it from frozen. Out of the freezer into the oven. About an hour in we take it out and remove the gizzards and neck. A while later the stuffing goes in. It is always mouth-watering.
I cooked the last Thanksgiving dinner for the gang as the wife was at a dog show. I nailed it. She rolled in at 1700hrs and the family right after.
BATMANThey instantly said yes and my wife pulls a 20-pound turkey out of the freezer and proceeds to make a feast with stuffing, cheese cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and mashed potatoes with gallons of gravy.
I'd like to know how she got the bird thawed out that quickly.
Cold rain in Annapolis. the night before my colonoscopy, I set some pills on the bed before rushing to the bathroom.
When I returned I reached for the pills and was mauled by my friends cat. I ordered her out of the room and swallowed my pills, one of which was soft and wet

Hope she comes around again.
I think I have one of these Commodore Vanderbilt Hudsons on order from TrainWorld. They should be arriving in a month or so.

Just texted my Granddaughter. Test came back positive! Fun.... Hope I can stay OK myself. We were at least masked in the car and I had a rear window down part way for air circulation..... Will know in a few days I guess.

We'll get there sooner or later!
howmusOh yes! I am now in quarentine...
Yeah. Been there done that. Br. Joseph is our new infirmarian (he replaced in in my senility) and he has the COVID test strips. POSITIVE.
Seven days in captivity... er I mean isolation. They would bring trays up to me, set them on a table outside of my door, and then I could open the door and bring my meal into my cage. Dou you know how much you can see on Oooo Tooob in seven dayze.

I cant bare it!
Brent.... Those puppies are absolutely adorable!
66? Hey I got a decade on ya! I be 76! As my FIL used to say, "If I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself!"
Good morning from the cloudy West Coast where it is 6c.
After I finish this 3rd gallon (imp gal) of Tims, I will cook up a huge pile of bacon and eggs as I am a little lighter than optimum. I had not been working out as much so cut back on consumption but maybe a little too much. I also see a big bowl of ice cream in my future.
We had nine dog people in here on Sunday afternoon to go over the puppies and it was getting late in the afternoon so my wife says, do you guys want to stay for dinner? They instantly said yes and my wife pulls a 20-pound turkey out of the freezer and proceeds to make a feast with stuffing, cheese cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and mashed potatoes with gallons of gravy. They drank 4 bottles of my best wine to boot. It was like Christmas dinner all over again. What a woman.
The only downside of all these visitors is I caught a bug. I had not left the homestead in a week so one of them was packin. I'll get out with my bud for a scoot and that will help clear my head. Having a "man cold" gets me coffee in bed.
I took some really good videos of my new Rapido Canadian cars in action. Went to edit it all only to notice a bottle of isopropanol towering over the scene. They look pretty good, but they need people in them.
The puppies are 31 days and my wife started training them 3 days ago. They will be well along by the time they go to their new homes.
I will be 66 on the 29th. My wife says that is one "6" away from the little devil my mother always said I was, so I am getting there.
Best get movin, before I become an old man. My Garmin says my fitness age is 43, I have lost two years recently, I need to fix that.
Good afternoon. I'd like some black coffee, Flo.
I just got home from a funeral. I believe the guy beat the odds. He was 82, but had battled cancer for 20 years. Years back he was not given good chances, but through all the treatments and surgeries, he continued to battle. His legacy is one we all aim for -- he was remembered for helping anyone who needed anything.
I have a good afternoon for more layout work. Retirement is the best!
Without mentioning everyone, I want everybody to know how much I enjoy my time in the diner.
Hope everyone has a great day.
During the years the space shuttle was flying, the solid rocket boosters made a trip from Utah to Florida, and the used boosters made the trip back to be refurbished in Utah.
They were shipped by rail:
The space shuttle fuel tank was made in New Orleans, and went to Florida through the Gulf of Mexico on a barge. I had a 'friend' who worked at the Michoud plant where the tank was manufactured:
Oh yes! I am now in quarentine..... Last Sunday I was over at my son's house watching the Bills lose... (Not happy about that either!) I sat next to his MIL for dinner. That next morning she tested positive for COVID! She is an administrative Nurse at a nursing home! Yesterday I provided transportation to school and back for midterm finals for my oldest Granddaughter. Guess who is now symtematic and awaiting the report of her COVID test??? We were both wearing masks the whole time she was in the car and I kept a rear window partly open to give more air circulation, but!!!!!
Oh well, the next several days should let me know where I stand. I have had all 4 Vaccinations so I should have some protection....!
79 degrees, blue skies, and a gentle breeze down here.
Another beautiful day here in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State! Looking out the window I see a lot of little white thingies moving sideways northbound. I can alomost make out the houses across the street at times. Around here we call the condition "Partly Cloudy"! We have had a couple inches of "Partly Cloudy" so far. Only because most of it is moving North at a pretty good clip....
LOL
Good Morning,
The mild spell has ended, -11F now and -30 forecast by the weekend. Time to plug in the block heater.
I was lucky as a lad to have the CN west mainline a reasonable bike ride from our house so I saw a lot of rail traffic. As Winnipeg was the last bastion of steam here, about 50% of the trains were announced by a smoke plume. That was '58/59.
TF, similar situation on Lake of the Woods. The best fishing was on the Canadian side so the boats from the camps on the Rainy River would stop at my friend's dock on our side to buy a license and some live minnows. He did a good business. Quite a few did get fined though as they thought they could land on islands on our side without going through customs. The RCMP patrolled the lake.
Have to pickup groceries later. We are still getting them online.
I finally have the 5 axle C Liner on the layout. Forgot how heavy it is.
No other plans today but may start painting a building kit I bought last year. It is Mo Skeeters bait shop.
CN Charlie
Today I have a picture of a Pacific type. This one has an Elesco Feedwater Heater and Two Generators.
Today is my Friday. Be fore work I am putting the last of the replacement sod down in the yard.
Good morning

I've always had a lot of Hustle in my step Ed. Just not as much in recent years That GN sure is a neat one as you are correct, I'd love to see that added to my roster. Looked over eBay and only seen two in O scale.
These handsome, specialty locomotives bring a pretty penny, if you're even lucky enough to even find them. The sellers are smart enough to know they're in high demand.
I've lost-out in several auctions, wanting a pair of the Chicago & Northwestern, Bird of Prey SD40-2 Falcon Service Editions. These paint schemes go for a minimum of twice the price of what they were new.
That Burlington splash of color, ("cherry in the coal pile" ) must of been a refreshing sight at the Collinwood yard back in the day. And the CB&Q bi-level race track, a fun site to see as well.
Still have my CB&Q Calf and Cow my GF Lavon, (who was quite the knockout) gave to me for my 26th golden birthday. The receipt is still in the box from December 26th 1989.
It ran like a champion, for the first time some 30 years later. With the traction tires, is one of my best pullers.
You got to get up pretty early in the morning to sneak one past the Fiddler Happened to notice the Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific, wood sided box car, lurking behind d.w.davidson's Hustle Muscle
Brought back the memories DWP, a subdivision railroad owned by CN was known as the Peg by the locals, runs between Fort Frances, Canada and Duluth, Minnesota.
I'd watch DWP consists, run the rails parallel to Highway 53 out the school bus window, from a good fifteen miles east of Ray to Orr, as seen on the map.
What's interesting if you look at the map, if one was to fish Rainy Lake, they better have both Canadian and Minnesota fishing licenses. Many tourists would get citations, even though they were warned by the resort owners.
Thanks for the BN race track video as the double deckers were fun to watch. My thoughts with you for the dentist today My temporary filling never made it to be crowned, as the tooth cracked apart and had to be pulled. Maybe one should have been eating softer foods in-between dentist visits
