Water Level RouteNever heard of anything like that before. I'm guessing this was not common. Would be an interesting looking roundhouse I bet.
I read that description a little differently.
A brick roundhouse was built to house and repair locomotives; nearby, a machine shop, housing an engine room, blacksmith shop, and an office was constructed with upstairs apartments for the use of the road's employees.
It's that word, nearby that is the ringer
Here's a crop of one of an overhead view of the later Collinwood roundhouse. It shows the two-story building that was the locker room, showers and probably a few bunks where employees working OT or just needing a rest could sack out for a while. There may have been a lunch room there but I cannot confirm that.

The actual YMCA for operating crews was across E. 152nd St. and on the south side of the yard while the roundhouse was on the north. I've been to a few other roundhouses around Cleveland and some in the Pennsylvania area. Most had some kind of dormitory space with showers and a lunch room either attached or within walking distance. On the Pennsy these were known as welfare buildings.
Fun stuff to delve into this old history.

I was reading a link on one of the other threads (somewhere in time NYC) that was talking about a NYC roundhouse (former Lake Shore and Michigan Southern structure) that had upstairs apartments for the workers. Never heard of anything like that before. I'm guessing this was not common. Would be an interesting looking roundhouse I bet.
Looking forward to some time off around the holidays. I'll hopefully, finally, be able to get back down to the layout to do something. Anything. Don't care! Just need some time, that's all.

Brent, I'm jealous of the weather you are getting. No appreciable snow in sight for us right now. I miss the days when it came and stayed in early November instead of mid January. I've told my wife for years I wanted to move north when I retire. She always disagreed, until recently. She's coming around to the idea. She won't admit it, but she misses the snow too. Just doesn't want to have to drive in it. Should be manageable at that state of our lives.

Good afternoon from the cold West Coast.
It is -4c and we are waiting on 30cm of snow to arrive.
The wife is leaving for a dog show on Wednesday and so I get to have the joint to myself along with whatever dogs she is not taking. I think it will be some long walks through the snow with the mutts.
See the bear? Neither do I, by the time I got my gloves off, unzipped my pocket and got my phone out, and clicked it, it was too late. I'll get him yet, this guy has been hanging around for months now.
My kid just called and has a new job with another $80,000.00 a year to boot. He figures he will go in and clean up the company and be gone in 18 months on to his next project. Completely unrelated to that was asked to do a 1-hour guest spot on a popular podcast and a couple of weeks later got a payment of $788.00. He did not know he was getting paid for it and what he gets is based on how many were listening. He has started doing them on a regular basis now and is bringing in a lot of listeners to the show.
I filled up the old F-350 for the first time since covid, that was rude, 120ltrs of diesel. I had only been putting about $50.00 at a time through covid as I rarely drove it. With the wife taking the Toyota for a week I'll need the truck, though there is a good chance I won't leave the place while she is gone.
Charlie, good to hear you got the all-clear on the health front.
Yesterday my neighbour got rear-ended by 5 cars on the highway. His brand-new top-end Tesla was destroyed. He thought he was fine and continued on to the office and three hours later collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. He is going to be okay, he did not bump his head, however, his brain got rattled so hard from the whiplash the CT showed a concussion. He was a well-known professional athlete and is now in his fifties and still in excellent shape. He has an amazing gym in his house and now works training professional athletes including some of the Canucks. He helps me monitor my conditioning and gives me pointers. It is all about diet is what he will tell you. We do like to sit and yak with a good Scotch though.
Well, the first flakes are coming down, I had better go out and batten down the hatches as there is a 90km/h wind supposed to be coming with the snow.

Up early again as my urologist was to call me with my PSA test results. He did and it came in at 0.01 so cancer free 6 years.
Got the flu shot yesterday, the high dose version. Arm a little sore but no other side effects.
Lion, glad to hear you are on the mend.
No plans for today which is my usual. Just tending bird and squirrel feeding. Sure get a kick out of the red ones. Although they are half the size of greys, they will chase off a grey if it goes in their section of the yard. They are very territorial and quite smart, besides being cute. Some birders hate squirrels but they are just trying to live and if we put out tasty seeds they don't know it is 'bird' seed. Live and let live I say.
Am enjoying a nice cup of coffee. It is from Kicking Horse coffee company, their 454 horsepower blend, smooth but potent.

Glad ya got through dat OK. Had it last winter and it was no fun. Thinking that we build up a good tolerance once sick, even with da covid.
Funny. Had an aggressive styled shoe like that once. Just one. My foot got caught between this slippery stump-log thing, down at the swamp by the tracks. Good thing my spranged foot came out as it was really stuck in there good. The shoe stayed in there and looked like that alligator one after removing it. Then had to limp all the way home fighting the flapper. Finally got smart and took the split shoe off trashing my sock the last half of the way.
Almost thought that was my shoe with teeth added for a second, but mine was blue.
Rest up well. Hope you'll be prawling around with your "Roar" back in your step soon.

Yep! I use one of the best out there and if the site tells me not to use it, I just go somewhere else! One of the big news sites now sneaks those annoying things into all of the video clips. I just don't watch any of their videos any more. I also make a note not to ever buy any items that get stuck on the screen before I can move on....

I have always resisted using an ad blocker here, because the train-related ads are not offensive and bring revenue to Kalmbach. However, if Kalmbach has ceded control of its web pages to the likes of Google, I have no qualms about using an ad blocker.

Not looking forward to Christmas. It is a very stressful time for my wife. The last good one we had was 2007, the last one with her father. 2008 was good too as I took her to Paris as an escape. Nothing like Paris at Christmas especially staying at a hotel across the street from the Louvre. That hotel was in the first Jason Bourne movie.

MisterBeasley Steven Otte, this may be a mod problem. I am seeing occasional ads between the threads that say "Adult Only Content." I never saw ads placed this way on my old Android tablet, but I'm using an Apple tablet now and it seems to be more ad tolerant. I also have seen an ad in the right side panel that was kind of political in nature. Yes, it's hard to keep this kind of content out of the MR Forums, but anything you can do to rectify this would be appreciated. EDIT: I did check that adult ad, and it's nothing offensive, just click bait.
