howmusI had been taking my blood pressure at home with a good wrist cuff for the past copuple months. I had printed it off and brought it with me. Reminded the Doc I do have "White Coat" hypertension and that might be the reason. Handed him the printout (My average BP was 128/70)
Hi howmus,
Has your doctor ever suggested that you bring your cuff with you when you visit? That would allow you to compare readings between your BP monitor and his. I used to suffer from 'white coat syndrome' but now my machine always reads a bit higher than my doctor's.
You definitely don't want to take too much BP medication. My medications have been reduced at least three times since I retired (I wonder if there is a connection there - do ya think?). Each reduction was preceded by dizzy spells when I stood up because my BP was way too low.
Cheers!!
Dave

John,
That sounds like a great trip! Have fun!

That looks incredible Mike!!
If I might ask, what temperature did you smoke it at, and for how long? Also, what type of wood did you use? We have a Bradley smoker that looks very similar to yours.

Mike
I'm really glad we just ordered our turkey dinner out this year. With the guests not coming we'll still have leftovers. The GF has spent the last two days cooking and cleaning for this open house yesterday, and we just got back from our Bourbon Trail expedition on Sunday night. She's beat, so we're glad there's no more company today.
The open house was well attended, much to my surprise given the holiday the next day and the short notice. It was all neighbors plus one friend from a few towns away. One neighbor is 82 and recovering from a broken arm, and this was probably her first real social time out in a month. She enjoyed herself immensely. On the other end of the age spectrum, our part-time neighbors showed up with two of their three lovely daughters. The girls love the cats and the dog.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! And for those not in the US, you are welcome to a Happy Thanksgiving, too. Those in Canada have had yours already, right?
Thanksgiving, for those not aware of its origins, started as a celebration of a good harvest back in colonial times with the early Pilgrim colony in New England. The local Native American population was invited to join in for the grand feast. To this day, it is celebrated with family and friends. The traditional dish is turkey, with plenty of side dishes. Houses smell wonderful for days.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I'm pulling the same duty TF is in getting things ready this morning. I wouldn't have gotten up so early as I did a lot yesterday, but turkeys in a smoker take some time. Oh well, nobody else is up so the house is quiet. That's kind of nice.
York John, please take and share pictures! I imagine it will be an amazing trip! Have fun and stay safe!
Anxiety is no joke. Hope everyone dealing with it (directly or indirectly) is doing okay.
Kevin, part of our Thanksgiving crew had to bow out due to sickness yesterday. It will be much quieter at our house too.
All others, thinking of you, but a kitchen timer just went off. Gotta go!
Good morning
Thanks for the update concerning Ulrich and Petra Dave. Was sorry to hear about their house project falling through. Glad they were able to keep their spirits up through that unfortunate disappointment. Hopefully they're able to find the place they're looking for in the good area to the south.
My thoughts and best wishes to you and Petra Ulrich.
Judy and I are up early to start prepping everything. Cooking as a sport first, then hope to get one football game in, if I get my way We like having our feast early in the afternoon. Then we can relax and watch a couple movies, indulging in several desserts later on. Makes for a fun day and we don't get so stuffed by breaking up all the good food and desserts.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone
TF
For those who might be interested, I just got an email from Ulrich telling me about his house situation.
Unfortunately he and Petra have had to abandon their goal of building a small house in the countryside. They managed to get as far as having the foundation poured, but then the contractor decided to double his price for finishing the house because of the cost increases for materials and material shortages. That was simply beyond Ulrich's budget. They are planning on renting an apartment in the south of Germany where costs are more affordable.
Despite the setback, Ulrich sounded like they are still in an upbeat mode. He is looking at the bright side hoping that they can find an apartment in a nice area away from the horrors that they endured in their place in Hamburg.
He still follows the forums but he doesn't want to get any more involved than that.
MisterBeasley I got Labatts Blue and Moosehead. But, while I was there I noticed they actually had some Hamms beer for sale. And I'm in Delaware.

Judy and I decided to stay home and relax, except for the cook-a-thone tomorrow and then relax. The HOOT with Family Cheers Weekends tire us out anyway
Hi Charlie, No Sir, It wasn't acid reflex meds. It's an intestinal thing. But Thank you for the heads up...Appreciate that
P.S. Recall you mentioning your wife's anxiety problem a few times through the years. That's gotta be tough. Got my curiosity and looked up information on PPI's. The medical information was like a catch-22. It was saying PPI's can cause depression and anxiety but also stated anxiety can cause acid reflux. Definitely looks like a tough act to follow. Hope your wife can find a way to overcome that, as after my little taste of it, just can't imagine years of it. Took Prevacid for a short time years ago and luckily that problem went away.
Wishing you well for a good PSA test result and enjoy that CN Northern Loco when it gets there. Sounds like a beauty! Make sure you post it, if you would please
Thanks John. You and your Daughters have a wonderful time on your trip. Have Fun and be safe.
Have a great Turkey Day tomorrow gentleman

Our Thanksgiving feast has dwidled to just two of us. Th GF's sister called this morning to say she and her problematic daughter would not be here after all, after inviting herself over last week. It seems her other problematic daughter won't be available to take care of the three dogs.
Just as well. We had an open house this afternoon, and now we can take our time cleaning up.
Here's an example of a fun train you could run on your layout:
Note the pistons have been removed from the cylinders. No lubrication without the steam to atomize it.
I remember having Thanksgiving dinner on the Broadway while Amtrak still had the Budd Pennsy twin-unit (couplet in PRR-speak) diners in service in 1972.

I talked to the steward about the preparation. Whole turkeys were roasted in the kitchen, no microwave-shrink wrapped food back then.
$4.50! What's a Big Mac go for these days?
This set wound up in Fort Wayne Indiana a few years later. I don't know whatever happened to this pair. They were supposed to be converted to a restaurant and, as so often happens, never materalized.

Good Afternoon,
We are having a heat wave here with temps of 35F and may hit 40 by Friday!
John, have a safe and fun trip. Have watched several shows about Petra. The closest we have come to the middle east was Istanbul.
TF, glad to hear your trup to the ER came out ok but it prompts me to ask if you are taking protein pump inhibitor meds. My wife has been on them for years to treat GERD(acid reflux) and has been having anxiety problems for the last 5 yrs. Send me a PM if my question is too personal.
The mighty Northern is coupled to the Intercity Express just waiting clearance to leave the station, hopefully in the next few days. My Northern is the only CN specific loco ever done in plastic. I think it is one of the best looking locos ever built. It has a balanced appearance.
Expecting a call from my urologist with the results of my annual PSA test. It will be 6 years this Christmas since my prostate cancer surgery.

York1For the next several weeks, my daughters and I are going to be traveling and hiking around the Middle East,
Good afternoon, everyone. Nothing for me today, Flo.
I am going to miss the diner for a while.
When I was a kid, someone gave me the book, "The Flying Carpet", by Richard Halliburton. He was an explorer in the early 1930s who flew his plane, a Stearman C-3B, around the world, visiting some of the most iconic sites.
One of his chapters, with pictures, was when he explored Petra. Ever since reading that book, I have wanted to see it.
Finally, I'm getting my chance.
For the next several weeks, my daughters and I are going to be traveling and hiking around the Middle East, with our last days in December at Petra and the Dead Sea in Jordan. I am really looking forward to this.
We will see how it goes. Their husbands are staying home to take care of the kids, and my wife did not want to go, so it is just the four of us.
I will be home before Christmas and I can cross Petra off my bucket list. Keep the diner waitresses happy with good tips while I'm gone!
Before I leave tomorrow I need to buy a hat like Indiana Jones:

Good morning all.
That is sad! Hopefully something can be planned for when everyone is feeling up to par!
I had my 6 month Doctors visit yesterday....... Blood presure was very high when the Nurse took it! Usually is a bit over what we want but this time was way over what I want it to be. Doc took a look at it and shook his head and said OK we need to take care of this. I had been taking my blood pressure at home with a good wrist cuff for the past copuple months. I had printed it off and brought it with me. Reminded the Doc I do have "White Coat" hypertension and that might be the reason. Handed him the printout (My average BP was 128/70) His eyes got wide open and said these are are great readings. Right where we like to see! Didn't change my meds which I think he was gong to up after the reading the nurse took.
Got home and had supper and went to take my after supper diabettes pill. I never took my morning pills which include the Bp meds! Duh!!! Glad he didn't make any changes which could have been overdosses......!!!
Ran 20 laps over at the fieldhouse this morning. Hope to get that back up to 32 laps in a couple months. That would be a 10k. I was doing that 3 days a week prior to the Pandemic.....

We'll get there sooner or later!
Our family Thanksgiving was cancelled this year because so many people have the flu. That makes me sad. I guess I will spend Thanksgiving working on the irrigation system since it has finally stopped raining.
Living the dream.
Hope you feel better, TF!
I'm waiting for another funeral to begin. I'll check back into the diner a little later.
The ex-wife used to get panic attacks from steroids. At one point she was admitted to a hospital where they gave her anti-anxiety meds that made her worse.
I always read up on meds they give me, but I find they don't cover side effects very well. With me, fortunately, it's more like dirty underwear effects, nothing psychological.
Well, Had a rather horrible evening last night. Woke up feeling nervous yesterday morning and didn't know why as I have nothing to worry about. It got worse through the day. Judy said I didn't seem like my normal self and asked what was wrong when I picked her up from work. Told her what was going on but l wasn't that concerned about it yet.
Long story short I ended up at Fairview late last night with the worst panic attack of my life. The Doc said it was a side effect of my new stomach medication that causes anxiety, paranoia and in the worst cases, delusions and hallucinations. I asked why I wasn't told that when it was prescribed and he said it's a more rare side effect. I hate drugs but sometimes you need them I guess. Isn't getting old just a blast?
I was given some sort of sedative and something to counteract things and kept for observation till the wee hours of the morning. Tired today. Have a prescription to continue counteracting the anxiety but still feeling a bit Wanky.
It's only a little over a 3-hour drive to my Brother-in-law's in Wisconsin but we should probably decide by noon if we're still going or not.
Ailment Rant over. Thanks for listening.
Have a great Thanksgiving gentlemen

That is all I have to say tonight. Time for bed.
York1 TF, I'm not sure what I said? I didn't take anything said about ice cream or anything else as bad. After drinking other beers on our way to the bar serving spaghetti, Hamms beer did not taste good. That's all I meant. Honestly, after being married for 44 years and also being a school principal those years, it is almost impossible to upset me.

My misunderstanding then, as I guess I put my foot in my mouth. Sometimes when I see something that seems too ironic to be coincidental, I tend to read into things.
I'm man enough to admit if I was wrong though, so I need to apologize then. Sorry man.
