Good morning all,
I will be heading to my Southern Command today for the weekend.
a good time for a get away before the Holidays.
Been battling eczema, Had just a bit on my arms, then I got the mandadted flu shot here at work and now it have it everywhere. Finally got in to the dermatologist started a new regement. it is getting better. I will not be taking the flu shot ever again.
every year I get some auto immune issue with the shot, this year ended it.
well that is about all for now.
Good morning, diners. Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, Chloe.
Snow flurries for this morning's walk, but not enough to cover the ground.
Kevin, enjoy the weekend.
My layout has suffered the past weeks. I removed some track to put in a new bridge, but didn't get very far. It seems like my days are fully scheduled so train time suffers.
Union Pacific put on a neat show moving equipment that is being donated to a railroad museum. If you like a mixture of cars and locomotives, this is a good one:
Have a great Thursday, everyone.

Well, I will not be available to open Weekend Photo Fun Again this week. We are going to Orlando again, this time to see Hamilton.
It should be a good couple of days.

Living the dream.
Hi Everyone,
It has been cold here. Went from 70+F a week ago to low 30s and snow. Yuk! This weekend it's supposed to be in the teens.
TwofootJim: . Yes, ya gotta have a dream, and it's never too late to start a layout or modeling project. FWIW, I haven't had a layout for over 50 years for a variety of reasons or excuses. But, I too have a dream. A 9 or 10x12' room layout very loosely based on railroads where I grew up. I have location, era, models, everything I need except space to set up a layout. If you don't have a dream you just exist. So, dream on. And please, don't break into the song.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
Gmpullman,
While I am somewhat short, 5'7",the screen name is related to the Maine 2 foot gage roads. May be asking advice on how to incorporate a small selection of the Wescott Waterford and Farmington into an upper Midwest layout. This may require some imaginative map folding.
Jim
Good morning and thanks everyone for making me feel welcome.
Current layout is a 5'x9' table in the garage. In 20 years I have most of the track down and working. It's been dormant for about 4 years. Plan was to get going when I retired 10 years ago but some family issues interfered. Then my wife's health deteriorated leaving me being a full time care giver. Not enough time!
Hope to get rid of boat which hasn't been out of garage in 4 years, heat and insulate garage, take apart current layout, and start new one using the half of the garage not needed for the car.
This is probably crazy at my age but you gotta have a dream.
TwofootjimGood morning and thanks everyone for making me feel welcome.
Good to see you here, Two Foot Jim
Someone is bound to ask sooner or later — is your screen name related to a diminutive stature or is it, as I presume, an interest in two-foot gauge railroads?
My dad was a fan of the Maine two-footers and had spent some time there in the late thirties.

We're "targeted" for a snow event here along the southern shores of Lake Erie. The mower deck is still on the Deere since I was Hoovering leaves just last week. I do have a backup plow, of course. I'll have to get that dusted off in preparation.
It takes about three hours to pull the mower from under the tractor then install the sub-frame, snow blower then the cab. No fun but I pace myself.

Still no ETA from the air conditioning people on when a new unit could possibly be available.

Tomorrow I shall post films of further south in Italy.
Dawn has requested an Italian meal tonight. Pasta with Chicken it is. A bottle of Barolo Araldica is opened.
Ciao.
Good morning, diners. I'll have bacon, eggs, and coffee, Brunhilda.
It was cold outside for the morning walk. It was 12°F out, but with no wind. It has now warmed up to 15°.
I walk a trail that goes alongside a creek. This morning, I passed a tree with a trunk diameter of about 12 inches. The trunk had been chewed completely through and the tree had fallen. Evidently a beaver doesn't mind the cold and did a lot of work over the past couple of days.
It sounds like a lot of diners have spent time in Italy. I've never been there, but my daughters have our family trip planned for next June. After seeing all the videos and pictures, I can't wait to see it for myself.
Most people count today as 'hump day'. When I worked, 'hump day' wasn't celebrated until about 3:00 p.m. on Friday. I'm so retired that it's difficult to remember how great that feeling was on Friday afternoon.
Have a great day, diners!
Twofootjim Good morning, Snowing again this morning, very lite. Yes, Minnesota drivers can't remember how to drive in it for 6 months. They have to learn allover. Mostly the hard way. The snow makes me appreciate our townhouse. The association is responsible for snow removal. Don't have much to say, just wanted to say hi. Jim

Hi Jim. I can be a little late with my manners sometimes as I do remember reading your post Tuesday. That's exactly how the weather was here yesterday. Saw that you were also aware of how terrible the drivers are here in the winter time if not all the time You must either live in Minnesota or one of the surrounding states.
Sounds like a great plan that you're going to insulate and heat the garage to start a new layout. Somehow managed to hold on to my old layout half my life until about 5 years ago. That thing got cut up and tossed in the dumpster after a 35 year break from model railroading. There was just too many things wrong with it so I decided to start all over again as well. Having a lot of fun with it again and hope you will too.
Welcome to The Forum and hope to see you around
Sounds like you're having a wonderful time on your road trip Mister B. Thanks for keeping us posted and Stay Safe

Heading out for Churchill Downs this morning, then on to Bardstown. Since I'm a beer and wine guy, I'm the designated driver on this trip. It's cold and dreary here. Snow flurries, but no accumulation. Back in New England, I did lots of snow driving, so I'm comfortable with it, but most other people here freak out.

Good morning Lion. Kinda missed your presents here this last week so it's good to have ya back.
Thanks for the cocoa. Picked up a big box of Swiss Miss and a gallon of milk as it looked like a good idea. One tastes better as great presentation always has a lot to do with anything
Good morning
Having a lul in my semi-retirement work which is typical for this time of year. Ever since I can remember, people tend to spend money on Christmas presents and not projects that need to be done in their home during the holiday season.
Always find something to do though. I'm finishing up the custom piers I started for bridge #1 so it can be set in place with the three deck girder spans on either side. It's only been 5 years since I built that bridge so I figured it's about time
York1 I really liked the Lamborghini video.
I really liked the Lamborghini video.
York1 TF, you are probably able to drive very well on the snow and ice. Watch out for those other people. I agree about SUV drivers. I have an Expedition, but I know that it doesn't matter what I'm driving, I can't stop quickly or take sharp turns on ice no matter what SUV I have.
It is good that many four wheel drive owners understand their equiptment, ...what it does and doesn't do.
I was on the way back form visiting my daughter one morning and we had an 1 1/2 of snow that night. It was still coming down lightly and quite cold so it was building more ice on the freeway. I was keeping the Ram at about 40 mph as I had already tested how terrible slippery it was. SUV's were passing me almost like I was standing still as I remember thinking, I'll probably be seeing them up the road in the ditch.
I came up to a tangled mess that looked like a war zone and was sure it was one of those SUVs or both that caused the accident. Semis were Jack Knifed in the ditch along with other drivers that were probably driving sensibly. One of the SUV's had rolled upside down against a tree and the other was lodged under one of the semi trailers.
When I had come up to that mess, I remember pumping the brakes as fast as I could even though I have ABS. It was the only thing that allowed me to continue steering to barely avoid the crashed vehicles that remained on the roadway. For a split second I remember contemplating the ditch to avoid the crash but somehow steered free.
More than likely, whoever caused the accent at that extremely icy area, locked their brakes or steered out of the slide instead of in. I had barely skated through it and remember the neck stress and shoulder tension had never left me that day.
Ponte Vecchio in Florence Italy certainly gives bridge structure a new meaning.
Not sure if this has already been posted but it's one of the oldest arch structures in the world originally built in 1345.

Hi David,
My layout needs to be a lot more 'finished' than it is right now!!
Cheers!!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
hon30critter Water Level Route hon30critter I've been on the forums for 16 years and I still don't have a finished layout thanks mostly to back problems That may be Dave, but it is still one of the neatest concepts I've seen and I'm sure I'm not the only one that hopes you can make some progress on it sooner than later. Hi Mike, Thanks for the encouragement. Once the snow plow is done I'm hoping to get back to building the layout. Cheers!! Dave

Top of the page!!!
Well, Dianne and I have been assigned to make dessert for her family's Christmas gathering in early December. We are going to make a Black Forest trifle with tons of cherries and lots of chocolate mouse. We will make two trifles, one for the kids without booze, and one for the adults with copious quantities of Kirsch or Amaretto.
I love cherries in any form. Dianne is being a real trouper because she hates cherries with a passion!! Other than that she is completely normal!
We will make some extra portions of the adult version to share with you.
Good morning diners. Zoe, loaded scrambled eggs and an english muffin please.
I'm begining to lose faith in GE holiday lights. In case you don't remember, I had a string on the roof light fully, but fail to pass power out the end plug to the next string. Didn't catch it until I was two strings later and getting ready to hang the final string. Pulled the offending string down, did some rearranging, and all was fine. Haven't turned the lights on since. Last night I got the go ahead from my wife to light everything up as others are beginning to as well. Something told me to check everything again and sure enough another string failed the same way! The first string was really annoying, but I could mark it up as possibly being a 10 year old string. The one that failed last night is a year old! Same issue: fully lights, but no power going out the female plug on the end. Luckily, the offending connection on this one was right by a gutter downspout so I could sneak a cord up the gutter to the strings without power and get them on that way. I'm not confident my roof lights are going to make it through the season, but we shall see. It would be one thing if it were only a couple strings on a low roof, but I've got 10 or 11 strings up and the peaks of my roof are over 30 feet in the air. I busted apart the female plug on one of my old parts strings to see if it was a simple replacement, but no. There is a small pc board with a large resistor and a couple other bits in there. Might have to pony up for commercial quality lights for the future if this continues.

York1Kevin, that church has an unusual roof on the steeple. I can't quite tell if it's a round roof or an octagonal one. Neat picture.
John,
Everything about that church was unusual.
It is located outside of Hobart, Indiana, but it looks like it should be in Georgia. It even has pine trees.
There is no entrance to the church from the roadway that I could find, no parking lot, and not even a walkway up to the door.
I saw it from the road, stopped, and walked about 100 feet into the woods to get that picture.
I looked at the original resoltion image, and I cannot tell if the steeple roof is square or octagonal. Interesting.
TwofootjimDon't have much to say, just wanted to say hi. Jim
Hi Twofootjim!
Welcome to the forums!!
It just started to snow here in southern Ontario an hour ago. We were supposed to have had snow starting last Sunday, but fortunately it held off. We have a snow cleaning contract that starts on November 15th. How serendipitous!
Please tell us about your modelling. It doesn't matter if you have a layout or not, but if you do have one, why not post some pictures? I've been on the forums for 16 years and I still don't have a finished layout thanks mostly to back problems.
Good afternoon, everyone. It's only 3:30 p.m. here, but that's close enough for happy hour to start for me.

It's good to hear from you. It shows this as your first post. I'm not sure if that's correct, but if it is, don't get discouraged if your posts don't show up right away. After posting several times, the issue goes away. It's good to hear from you.
Jim UP831, thanks for the photos from the event. I agree with you about some N scale modelers. It's amazing what they can do. My layout is N scale, and I don't exactly fit in with those guys.

Tin Can, I hope your eye issues heal quickly. You're right -- we often want the doctors to wave the wand and cure things in 30 minutes. It doesn't happen that way, but patience with health issues is difficult.
