Good evening all.

Today was a great day all around. We had a pretty good rain shower which was badly needed. Work was smooth and nothing went wrong. Everything seems fine with life right now.

Dinner Time!

Hi Brent,

I can't get the link to work. I get a message that the video is private.

Lion, you said you will visit your brother this summer. Is that back in NYC? Will you get a chance to ride the subways while you're there?

No. R. lives in North Carolina. Have no brothers in NYC. I am thinking about that for next summer. I'll be 40 years a monk by then and maybe can get more weeks away. May stay at a Catholic retreat house. If my stability does not get worse.

No, I will fly in to RDU and then rent a car for several days. Car rental will cost more than the air fare.

At least when (or if) I go to NYC I will take AMTK to NYP and will have no knead fo a kar!

Good morning

gmpullman

It was fun to see the picture of the past out the back of the Lacrosse Depot Ed.  83 was the year after I graduated high school.  Although right next door, my journey through life wouldn't be taking me there till many years later.

It appears Mark on Flickr perhaps took the picture out of the north side of the building seeing the higher vantage point of the photo.

We went there on a weekend get-away early last spring.  Here's a few pictures of the south side of the building.

Waited for a train as Judy waited for meLaugh  Walked down to wave to the engineer in the Canadian Pacific cab.  Much to my surprise an unmanned train reversing direction to connect to a string of more hopper cars further down the line.

I had seen this sort of thing before at the yard in Savage Minnesota with the locomotive controlled in the yard office.  I don't know where they were controlling these two CP locomotives from.  It left the area after just that one stop picking up the cars while passing through.

It appears your alike van in the picture was from the third generation series.  My guess is 72 - 73, but out of curiosity, what year was your van?

Thanks John.  Looking forward to seeing your bridge progress you mentioned.  I'm glad the pictures were helpful to you.....AnytimeSmile

I hear ya about the rental car rates Lion.  I saw the effect the pandemic had on them last spring.  Last Summer I decided to roll the dice and risk driving the 18 year old Ram on our Mount Rushmore ten day road trip.  I felt if I had to dust off the Visa for a road hazard, it might be cheaper anywayIndifferent  I hope you can get the time off to go see your Brother in North Carolina.

I prefer those vanilla Oreos lately as well Kevin.  I didn't notice lemon on the package rifling through them rather quickly.  I'll have to look next time as maybe I've been eating the wrong onesLaugh

Have a great day gentlemenWink

Hi gang!

The end of the month is rapidly approaching so that means that we have to get ready to move the Diner. You may recall that David (NorthBrit) suggested that we tack the Diner onto a few vacation trains. I think that sounds like a great idea!

What say ye?

Cheers!!

I'll offer a second for vacation trains.  And also offer that those of with roots across the pond and big lake will likely call them "holiday" trains.  If I get confused I'll see if a donut (doughnut?) helps. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good morning, everyone.  It's 68°, sunny, and beautiful outside.  The only way to make it better would be for some rain.

I think that's a good idea.  I don't have any photos of trains while on vacation, but I'm interested in seeing others.

I'm one of the few clowns who actually enjoys seeing other people's vacation photos.

Brent, I also couldn't watch the video.  Message said private.

Kevin, I've never heard of Island Coastal beer.  I see that's it's brewed in South Carolina.  I will have to try and find some -- not sure if it's sold anywhere here.

I'm not sure what I did to deserve this, but I have another day with nothing scheduled.  The grass isn't tall enough to cut, and cleaning the shed can wait.  I went to the grocery store yesterday.  There's nothing to do but work on the bridges for the layout!

I think tomorrow I may drive down to Spring Creek Model Railroad store to buy some more styrene for the bridges.  It's an hour drive with no traffic.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love retirement?

In a couple of weeks there's an auction near here on the estate of a lifelong railroad collector.  It's an amazing collection.  I wish I had more room (and money) to bid on some of the stuff.  Wouldn't this signal look great in the backyard?  Almost all of the stuff is Burlington, with lots of station stuff and lots of signals.

I didn't know that trains took vacations.  Would they schedule them with their dispatcher?  How would they do stuff like hotels and rental cars?  And then there's their families.  Oh my, I need another donut!

Sorry everyone, I am getting senile in my old age. Try this.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ANKIWnmhUKs?&ab_channel=BATTRAIN1

Another beautiful day in paradise. I'll get the grass cut today but as it is still early here, I think I'll sit down on the back patio with my guitar for a couple or three hours. Johns right, can't beat retirement. I have been retired for 13 years now, packed it in at 52.

Enjoy your day all.

EDIT: Sorry people I had to delete the video as it had 1200 views in the first 40 minutes and was attracting the wrong kind of comments. I will post another down the road and get the visibility setting correct next time. I posted it publicly instead of unlisted and I hope I stopped it from going viral. More to come.

I can't believe it's lunchtime already???

Whatever!!!  That's the end of that I guess.  I think I'll grab a sandwich and get on with something a little more productive for the rest of the day.

On you tube studio if you click additional settings on the bottom of the first page that sets thumbnails description etc a setting will pop up where you can approve comments or turn them off completely. Maybe that might help.

I had meant to post it as unlisted, that way only the people here would see it and that usually means two or three people. I accidentally hit public and away it went. I just deleted it altogether and the way it was taking off I hope it wasn't snagged and reposted by someone else or it is out there forever.

When my daughter was young we sent a private video to all the Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents of my daughter playing the piano. We asked it not be shared with anyone and of course, someone reposted it to a friend and it hit the WWW forever. The problem was the emblem and name of her school were clearly visible on her sweater in the video. No harm came of it, but that was the last time we sent any videos out of the kids.

I don't mind at all if my MRR videos end up in other places but judging by the views that is unlikely to ever happen.Laugh

John, how's that for my bad wording?  You'd better get me a donut, too, while I try to rewrite that sentence!

Brent, years ago when schools first got websites, there was a lot of worry about showing students online.  We had a lot of parents who said they did not want their kids pictured online, and it was nearly impossible to have any photos on the school websites that had any students at all.

Then, along came Facebook.  Parents themselves began putting their own kids' photos online.  The photos were liked and shared all over the place.

At school, we finally had a provision in the school handbook that if a parent did not want their child's photo to ever appear in the school's website, they had to fill out a form and submit it to the office.  Since that change happened, not a single parent ever filled it out.

I just got back from the train store.  I decided to go today.  I love that place.  They claim to be have the biggest selection of N and HO between Chicago and Denver.  True or not, they have so much stuff to look at I could have spent all day.

I hear ya John, however, this one video was in our house with lots of clues as to where it was. Both my kids have a big internet presence now. When I Google my son's name the first six pages are all him and if you click on images it is the same result. The daughter has plenty of pics online as she excelled in school on the swim, golf, and equestrian teams, now at University it is Equestrian and Archery. She also plays the piano, cello, and clarinet, though the piano is the only thing I hear these days when she is home. I kept my Moms Yamaha Grand piano and told her it is hers when she gets her own place.

Well I just did 45 minutes on the bike and 10 minutes of weights so it is time to hit the trail with my bud (our only male dog) I love taking off on him when he stops to sniff things, I run as fast as I can and he comes after me once notices I am not there anymore. He catches up and laughs at me because I am going flat out and he just saunters along beside me without breaking a sweat.Grumpy

Couldn't get much guitar playing done today as the arthritis in my hands would not let me. I'll try again later.

All the best to all.

Well, I knocked off 8.6km today on our walk which burned 646 calories. I am on my second rum and Pepsi and the wife is preparing an Italian feast, could life get any better?

TF sorry to hear of your Diverticulitis. We know three people with it, two of them have read, read and read some more on it and live like they don't even have it. The third is the Mother-in-law. She doesn't even want to make the effort, drives my wife crazy. She has been rushed to the hospital many times and had three chunks of her bowel removed in the past few years. Education is always the key.

I feel great with the ramped-up exercise this week. When your wife cooks as well as mine does, I would rather do more than eat less.Laugh

Canucks are on tonight, it's a good day.

I have been to hobby shops all over, and Spring Creek Trains has more than any hobby shop I have visited in Chicago or Denver.

I don't know where to go to find more inventory. Ready To Roll in Miami, maybe.

It was great to see her.
