Hi gang,

I'm annoyed! I am apparently developing a toothache!Grumpy I already have enough aches and pains so I really don't need this at all. I'll call the dentist this morning once they have opened. Maybe if I'm lucky all I will need is antibiotics.

I hate the prospect of having to have a tooth pulled. The last time I had a tooth pulled the dentist had to straddle me on the chair in order to get enough leverage to pull the tooth. The pain I experienced after that was nasty!

Cheers!!

Dave

Good morning

I hear ya Dave.  Toothaches Really Suck!  I subconsciously grind my teeth at night and get TMJ sometimes.  I've had three molars pulled as they can't do anything for you but pull-em if they're cracked.

This was my favorite Subway picture looking through them though.  I think I remember reading it's at City Hall.

Hi again,

I need to restock my micro drill bit supply. In the past I have found that the majority of numbered bits that I have bought have been totally useless. They just sit and spin without cutting into even soft materials like brass and copper. I use #85 Nano oil as a cutting lubricant, and when the bits work, they work really well. Can you recommend a supplier who sells decent quality bits?

Please note that I do not want the bits with large shanks. I have a wonderful low speed cordless drill with a micro chuck that was recommended by Ed (I believe) and it works really well with a good bit.

Thanks,

Dave

I find this a bit disturbing.  Apparently you're pretty brave Dave.  This morning you're talking about a toothache and 40 minutes later you're talking about drill bits not drilling well into something softLaugh

Sure!  Ya come and tease me with two pumpkin orange Halloween treats that I responded to twice, and where did ya go? Laugh

Good morning, diners.  It's another beautiful cool day outside, and we got a half-inch of rain last night, so it's even better.

Dave, I'll agree with you -- a toothache is not any fun.  Toothaches, dentists, drills, -- this is not a nice topic.

My wife told me we were going to visit our pink-haired baby in Orlando today. I got up early, and of course it was worth it, but I am so tired now.

There's nothing better than getting to see one of the kids.  That's a good kind of tired.

Lion, you could post about a hundred subway photos, and I would not be able to identify any of them, even though I've ridden the NYC subways.  Every station and every train looked about the same to me.

I'm looking forward to a new month when the diner moves.  I'm a little tired of stock car photos.

A very cool trip to Ft. Worth, Texas, involves a neat train ride and reenactments of a trail drive.

Maybe the drill motor is turning in the incorrect direction?

Good Morning,

Getting ready for another rain weekend . A Colorado low is sending a substantial amount of rain our way starting tonight. I have been busy sealing up 2 problem basement windows. Will find out if that stuff advertised on TV works as claimed. Sure is expensive. I have a new pump and better hose at the ready. I will find out today if the old pump is burned out as the ice in the pond has finally melted. At least a lot of the snow has melted and that caused a lot of the problem, I think.

I finally purchaed a Hornby Princess Elizabeth Golden Jubilee loco. One came up at a fair price and not on a stupid auction. I have been looking at them for over a year and the proceeds from selling off other train stuff will cover the cost.

Have to get up on the roof to clean out a blocked evestrough.

TF, I did laugh at yor post about Dave and the drill bits. One of my wife's grandfathers did his own dentistry with pliers. Apparently he had very strong hands not to mention high pain tolerance. I shudder at the thought.

Time to do something.

Charlie, good luck with your basement windows.

After we bought our house, my wife said one of our basement windows was leaking.  Stupid me opened the window.  A virtual flood came in.

My problem was easily solved.  The backyard partially sloped towards the house.  I regraded the land to slope away and we never had the issue again.

Good luck!

Hi maxman,

I'm pretty sure that I had that part correct. It is funny that you ask though. A couple of weeks ago our son was mounting a decoration on one of our trees. It required that a hole be drilled first. I watched as he was having a heck of a time trying to get the bit to penetrate the tree. I knew that the bit was in good shape. After a few minutes I asked him if he had the drill in reverse. He gave me a funny look like it was a stupid question, and then he put the drill in forward and it worked just fine!LaughLaughLaugh He turns nuts and bolts the wrong way most of the time too. It's not for lack of me trying to teach him!Smile, Wink & Grin

Cheers!!

I found a Canadian supplier who sells industrial quality bits (at least they should be for the price!). I have ordered a dozen each of #78s and #74s. I will let you know how well they work.

We have had two days with rain, and it is supposed to rain again this afternoon. Good, I hope this keeps up steady for the next several months, as it usually does.

Afternoon folks!

Loving the pet photos!  Have to feel sorry for the Longhorn Cattle walking to their death though.  I always felt bad when we had to send a cow to butcher on the farm.  Of course, many of them were "pets" and show animals that I had spent hours and hours working with.  A couple times I laid awake at night and cried!  That was growing up on a dairy farm.....

Had a Whoa experience over running at the fieldhouse this morning.  I was on my 13th (or so) lap where I start to actually run rather than jog, and a woman (cute woman I might add) who looked to be early to mid 50's and was running pulled up along side me and asked how far I go.  I told her 16 laps which is a 5k.  She gave me a huge smile and I said that is not too bad for a 75 year old.  She then said "WOW!"  Always nice to be noticed, and really nice when the person is surprised because she thought I was younger.....  I finish off with a "sprint" (If you could call it that...LOL) and at that time there were several people at the sign in desk just talking.  The new lady in charge of the fieldhouse saw me and when I stopped before crashing into the bench at the end made a sign saying "come on keep going!"  I laughed and pointed to bench in my way.....

At least I have some fun while getting sore muscles....

Have a good one out there and stay safe!  (Several of my friends and a lady I have just met are recovering from the Virus at the moment!  So far I am healthy...  Hope to stay that way and glad I haven't been too close to any of them lately!)

Good afternoon all,

Just checking in to say I am still around, Been a bit busy, Was out our Southern Command last weekend for 4 days of Juke Joint Blues Festival. Lots of good music to be had.

Not much else going on these days, trying to un ury from the heap they are throwing our way at work. I moved back to the back cube in our office. I have bigger space to make my Christmas train layout on my desk this year.

That is about all for now.

Ray, that's nice your field house has a track over 300 m.  Our field house track is 200 meters, so I have to circle a lot more to get the same effect.  I don't like going there except in very bad weather -- going in circles gets tiresome for me.

MLC, it's good to hear from you again.  That music festival in Mississippi sounds like fun!  I used to love festivals like that when we were in Louisiana.

Ray, I was out shopping today and went to our favorite produce stand, which just opened for the season.  It was a pleasure just to go there, and I picked up vegetables for the next few days.  I smiled the whole time I was there.

They have a field outside with animals.  There were animals I thought were yaks, but they were actually Scottish highland cattle.  I hope they're pet or show animals.

It sure helps when there is good scenery...  (like today...Wink)  Summertime I usually do the 5k right here in the neighborhood.  I have a route that is almost exactly 5k right by my house.  Most of the year around here running outside is not pleasent and can be downright dangerous....

The HWS Fieldhouse has a good indoor track that is used for meets during the winter season (6 lanes).  My sons competed there for school events back in High School.  3 of the lanes circle around a curtain (removed for track meets) that house 6 tennis courts in the center.  They also have several Handball courts and some other courts in a large room there.  Also inside the building is major workout areas with all kinds of equipment on two floors on one side of the fieldhouse.  Cardiac recovery for local patients is in that area as well. Very nice place that is partially open for community use (for a reasonable fee).

Sun has been shining here today all day.  Temp has only gotten up to 53°F though.  Tomorrow I shall mow the lawn for the second time this Spring....  That will get me some milage in tomorrow.  I use a battery electric walk behind mower for that....

Today's picture is an example of being in a perfect place at the wrong time. The sky was overcast and the lighting was terrible.

This was the best I could do.

Been a really long week at work.  Will be here a bit more, sneaking a peak at the forum while I await a reply from a co-worker.

We did get rain Wednesday night; first measurable rain in a long time. We had the sprinkler guy here Tuesday, found six breaks.  Our lines are metal pipe; and break when the soil shifts (I winterized the system before the first freeze).  Found another leak yesterday.

No model train activity in a while.  I would like to work on some kits this week end; think I have worked hard enough this week to get some time in the basement.

Things have been quiet, both here at home and on the forums.

Red Bug, Orange Geep:

Milwaukee GP -40 at Mayfair Jct 1982 , by Mark LLanuza, on Flickr

I had basement window wells fill with rain water a few years ago. Twice! No fun.

It caused the particle board underlayment that I had down for over 25 years to buckle. I remember checking the rain gauge. We had 3.75 inches of rain in about two-hours.

 Shop_floor2 by Edmund, on Flickr

After I made the repairs it happened again about a year later. I've since made remediations to the slope outside the basement wall. Another problem is that there is a roof valley at this point and the short piece of gutter simply can't take two inches of rain an hour.

Hi guys!

I usually don't post here but I thought I would let you know about my health. I recently found out I have a heart murmur. A couple of weeks ago I had an Echocardiogram and they found a Mitral Valve Prolapse with Regurgitation. Yesterday I had a TEE procedure which confirmed the diagnosis so there will be a repair job done in the future they are optimistic on the procedure as my overall health is good.

I will keep you updated as I find out more.
