Good morning

Up very early again today and already finished my coffee.  Let me buy you all one, with a peppermint cinnamon roll for Christmas.  I seem to have developed a better pattern lately.  I'm going to bed earlier, getting up earlier and sleeping better.

Brent,  It was good to see the Canadian Pacific Christmas Train.  Although we didn't see it in person this year, avoiding crowds, it was good to see a picture.  Thanks for posting.

Bear,  Thanks for posting the Jethro Tull.  I've always been a big fan.  The lyrics on "A Christmas song" are quite horrifying aren't they?  It doesn't quite reflect the Christmas spirit to wellIndifferentTongue Tied  But that's just Jethro Tull!  Thier lyrics on other songs are quite disturbing as well.  A strange bunch of guys indeedLaugh

Kevin,  After you put a sweater on in The Frigid 60'sLaugh  I think you should fire up that furnace whether you think you need it or not.  There is nothing worse than to let equipment sit and do nothing.  A good standard practice is to get those cogs turning once in a while to keep them fluid and not seized.  I shift my truck into four-wheel drive traveling straight down the highway to get the front axle turning.  I do this a couple times a summer just to keep everything moving so it works when I need it.  Perhaps your central air system is the same unit but it's still good to get the heat mechanism Parts working once in awhile too.

Have a great day everyone and Happy Holidays!

P.S.  I forgot to congratulate you on your new grandchild John.  So congratulations!

Thanks for the continued posts David, ...Enjoyed

The CP Christmas Train didn't run this year, they did a virtual thing, I caught part of it.  They had a FaceBook page set up for it.

Only the north western part of WI got part of the storm that hit TF.  Nothing down here in the SE part, some rain yesterday, with temps in the low 50's!

Not today!  Cold is here, no snow, just cold!

I went out for a little railfanning yesterday, as I heard one of the CN's heritage units was heading NB.  This is one of those new fandangle locos, part of the GE Evolution series, an ET44AC, which CN painted with the Wisconsin Central scheme.

Kevin, watch out for the falling iguanas!  I just had to read about it.  The cold makes them totally lethargic, and they fall out of trees.  Surprise

Merry Christmas to all!

Mike.

Merry Christmas to you Mike

I'm surprised Judy didn't tell me about the virtual Canadian Pacific Christmas Train on Facebook.  She's on there all the time.

We have quite a bit of snow here and COLD.  -2° this morning but I don't know what the wind chill is.  I'm sure there is one as it's still quite windy.

It's amazing it was 46 degrees yesterday when we went grocery shopping in the morning.  Now in the negative digits.  Typical Minnesota - Wisconsin weather,  Go figure!

It's hard to tell how much snow we got because of the wind.  Deep here, shallow there because of the drifts.  The media said we got 8 - 9" but they tend to exaggerate things.  Looking at the snow pile rows on the side of the highways it looks to me more like 6.

I've enjoyed seeing those Wisconsin Central locomotives when I go to visit family over there.  I think it's Stonelake where I stop and drive back a block-and-a-half. There's three Lines and I watch some pretty long trains there.

That raining iguanas is quite humorous.  I've never heard of such a thing but it sure is funnyLaugh  Makes sense though as reptiles are cold-blooded.  We used to catch garter snakes when we were kids.  When it got cold in the fall they became dormant and looked like they were dead.

I can't have my brother join us for Christmas Dinner this year.  We are going to meet in St Paul at this big hobby store this afternoon with our masks on.  At least we can see each other for a while.  This hobby store is in the basement of a big building.  My brother calls it Candyland.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the photo. I still occaisionally see EMD Class 66 Diesel-electrics, wearing EWS (English Welsh Scottish) livery i.e., Wisconsin Central livery on the mainline, south of Edinburgh. WC obviously had lots of spare tins of paint! The 66's looked very attractive in these colours, but unfortunately EWS was sold to Deutsche Bahn, and rebranded as DB Schenker which was rebranded as DB Cargo UK and now they are painted a toy-like bright red.

Was the distinctive Shield crest included? My CSS layout already has visits from a Delaware & Hudson GP38-2 (Proto 2000) and eventually I hope for a WC and an ITC - GP38 or SD40-2 Dont ask me why, I just like the Heritage liveries with which USA Railroads pay respect to their past. Paul

Good morning on Christmas Eve!  I've already had bacon and eggs, so I'll just have coffee.

Today is a work day -- cleaning the house.  The kids will all be coming on the 26th, so we will have the 25th by ourselves.

This will be the first time in my entire life I will not be in church on Christmas Eve.  As a kid, we always opened Christmas presents on Christmas Eve after the evening church service.  However, when I got married and had kids, we opened presents on Christmas morning.  This year, we will open them on the 26th.

Vaccinations have begun in my little town, but we were told my wife and I won't get ours until January.  They are already finished with the medical workers and nursing home residents.

I will probably check in later, but if I don't, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Bear. Just past 8am for you on Christmas morning. Hope youhave a great day.

Good to see Lion dropped in a couple of pages back. Hope the recovery is complete for you and no long term complications.

Merry Christmas to the rest of you as well and I hope this finds you well or at least getting better.

I will likely not be in tomorrow as we are having the kids on the east coast at least over mid morning as it likely the last Christmas in the house we've lived in for the last 40 years. We are looking to move to a more rural setting in a smaller house so a pretty big deal for a packrat like myself. Single level living with a bit more land would be ideal though at least here in New England a full basement is likely as well. We have a couple of places we'd do but between the holidays and the mass exodus from NYC it is taking longer to do all this house hunting than I'd like.     Cheers, J.R.

Garry, I'm very sorry to hear of your friend's death.  You're right, 2020 can't end quickly enough.

On a lighter note, Christmas Eve ...

The Cajuns in Louisiana have a strange way to celebrate.  For weeks before Christmas, they build huge stacks of wood -- some pyramids, some in other shapes.

These stretch for miles upriver from New Orleans on the levees of the Mississippi River.

On Christmas Eve, these are lit on fire and will burn through the night.  Supposedly, these will guide Santa Claus.

It is really something to see -- huge parties of people out enjoying Christmas Eve with bonfires.  Lots of food, drinks, and fun atmosphere.

I always found it strange that a huge deal like this, involving thousands of people, was very seldom reported or known about by the rest of the country.

The pictures are from about 30 years ago when my kids were little.  We spent a lot of fun time watching this:

It's almost too bad they're going to burn this one:

Hello Railfans!

Top of the day to ya! What a nice day too. Around the high 40's, overcast and rainy! Anything but beach weather, finally! Have my fingers crossed for about 4 to 6 feet of snow! (this way i wont be too disappointed only getting a dusting- if we get anything)

Spent the morning listening to the sounds of NKP 765. Something very theraputic about that ole girl!

All the chores are done, just an easy day ahead i spose. It wouldnt hurt if i got myself moving and made those trucks i need. Seems more of an operating day than a work on something day. The catch... i dont have a layout CryingBang Head!

Garry) my condolences on your friend Tim. Stay safe as best you can!

John) you folks take your marshmellow roasting seriusly huh?

Spose I will wonder around the site for a bit. Go pester some of the newbies Laugh

Merry Christmas!

Fish, shrimp, with scallops dinner, please and thank you. And some traditional family Christmas punch for desert.

Patti has been anxious to open presents all week, so her wait is finally almost over. Hope she likes all the toys Santa got her that I would have wanted as a kid.Big Smile Should be a fun morning.

Have the wood stove blazing away tonight. This old desert rat doesn't like cold weather. It's snowing away as I type, a very wet snow.

Healing thoughts for those in need. Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good Christmas Evening

Good to see you Ken.  Nobody doesn't like pizza!  Sounds good to meDinner

Garry,  I'm so sorry to hear about your unfortunate loss, especially at Christmas time.  My sincere condolences.  I'm still taking Judy to the cemetery every month trying to gain closure for her little sister Kelly.  I usually never say hate but what else can one say.  I hate that evil killer out there.  My heart goes out to you with prayers and kind thoughts.  I wish good Christmas Tidings to you and yours

All day long Judy and I have been just relaxing, eating finger food on the coffee table watching Christmas movies.  It's been an enjoyable Christmas eve and tomorrow is ChristmasYes or Festivus for the rest of usLaugh  That was a good one Henry,  you made me laugh.  I'm really surprised those blades are sold out.  You wouldn't think there'd be much of a demand for those.

Rob,  It was good to see you at Christmas time.  I wish you well and hope you're doing wellYes

Good to see you too Ed, with your blade confusion and allLaughWink  Merry Christmas to you and yours

Now back to our evening Christmas feature, ...Christmas Vacation with the Griswolds.  A classic we watch every yearYes

Good evening ....

MLC .... Others here are probably not familiar with Kirchhoff's Bakery in Paducah, but I will tell you today we received a large gift basket from there loaded with yummy cookies and other baked scrumptious goodies.  This is one of the best bakeries anywhere.

Henry and TF ..... Thanks for your condolences for our friend and neighbor who died from Covid-19 this morning. We are concerned about his wife who already was suffering from very serious health issues relating to diabetes. He was husband and caregiver to her.

2020 has seen the loss of three men ( heart disease, cancer, and Covid-19 ) in our small lakeside community of mainly retirees. Bad year.

TF .... It is very good of you to continue visiting the cemetary with your wife.

Ken .... Pizza sounds good to me, also. We might have Christmas hamburgers.

We had thought we would have a family get together for Christmas in Cincinnati this year. Due to Covid-19, we are staying home. Cincy granddaughter had been positive for the virus, but she never had symptoms and is now done with quarentine. Her dad (our son) is sick now, but is testing negative. Michigan family members will visit here in western KY briefly after Christmas.

Henry .... Love the photo of your grandson !

We certainly are not forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. I hope each of you has a joyful and blessed Christmas !
