Up early... more doctor appointments today.

The news from the dentist was not good yesterday. I have a fissure crack in a molar and need a root canal and a crown.

Today I will find out how bad my ears have become.

-Kevin

I cannot say with more intensity how that sucks Kevin!

I have three holes in the back of my mouth of molars that were extracted because they were cracked.  I re-learned how to chew little by little and everything is fine now.

I have tinnitus and my ears ring the loudest in the morning when I wake up.  I have gotten used to it but at least I can still hear better out of the left ear.  My right ear is pretty much jacked for half the hearing because of my skill saw cutting boards all these years.

Also my friends tell me I don't stand up straight because I have been leaning over saw horses all my life.  I determine that looking sideways into a mirror after enough people told me that.

I wish you well with your doctor appointments because I consider you my friend and wish you the best outcome today.

Today we honor Veterans !

Veteran's Day has always been special to me because of all the members of my family, and my wife's family that have served and sacrificed. Also, most of my closest friends are veterans.

I was considering tossing out the Covid concerns for today and going to the annual memorial service at the local Veteran's memorial. However, it was all cancelled due to Tropical Storm Eta.

It's as well to remember that the really great Generals were very aware of the need to keep their soldiers alive.

All military commanders, Good or Bad, Generals or otherwise, are aware of the need to keep your soldiers alive.

A soldier is an asset that can only be spent once. You win by preserving the lives of your own soldiers while forcing your opponent to sacrifice his soldiers.

Placing too high of a value on the lives of soldiers will result in poor military performance as we had in the American Civil War with General George McClellan. He wasted several opportunities for success out of trying to prevent casualties, while his opponents were willing to sacrifice units for significant advantages.

You need to be willing to break a few eggs or you cannot make an omelette.

Seriously, you have my sympathies. I hope all goes well.

The doctor today went OK, I guess.

The hearing loss and ringing in my ears is all in "normal" ranges for someone my age that has worked around heavy equipment all their life (not to mention all the loud concerts).

Nothing can be done medically to relieve the tinnitus.

Thank you for your concern.

Eta has been upgraded to a Hurricane, and is about 100 miles West of me heading Northeast.

This should be as close as it gets.

We have one feeder band about to hit my area, then things should get better.

A friend of mine was badly injured by a teenager doing donuts in the middle of the road.

I sure hope that that injured the kids driving record!

When I was a kid, people just drove slower. Life went on. Maybe you didn't go shopping or maybe school was closed, but life went on.

LION been watching them videos of Russian Drivers. They would have far fewr accidents if they followed the rools of da Road... but they do not. Just like here they think that a car is an extension of their manhood, and the faster they gooo....

They also enjoy turning from the wrong lane, passing cars on the right (Never mind that there is a big truck parked by the curb) and passing trucks on the right. They never seemn to realize that the middle of that long truck is going to squish them.

In the golden olden days trucks always had a sign DO NOT PASS on the right side end of their truyck. Sometimes they just said YES on the left and NO on the right.

Who here is old enough to remember all of that.

Since you have ought to dew with the boy sprouts, you ought to guide them through some of those russian videos, and explain what each driver did wrong.

I have a rule When it snows I take a snow day. I don't want to deal with the other people on the roads

LION has different rule... If the Subways are runbning you can go to work.

If the LIRR is running it is no problem.

If an afternoon blizzard is expected the LIRR will not even run in the morning knowing that they wil have a Bad* Time (use your own explitive here) in the afgternoon. They would rathe not be bothered with a million people steuck in the city.

Still if they brough you in they will take you home no matter ho much damage the snow drifts cause to their equipment (Electric traction motors ewe know... The blowers on their older stock seemed to draw the snow in.) They will then take the next two days off fixing their equipment. So easier to cancel the day up front if they know about the weather in advaznce.

Ah! Road haulage.  I have been involved with road haulage since I was knee high to a grasshopper.   I was always around the vehicles.   A couple of drivers would take me to Hull or Liverpool (with my uncle's consent).  Knights of the Road lorry drivers were called.   Throughout my working life road vehicles have been around me.   Before I retired I was in charge of all the Company's vehicles that ran in England and part of Scotland.  Happy days.

I still remember a really weird press conference about a particular Snowmageddon storm in Massachusetts, hosted by Governor Deval Patrick.  He was " hunkered down" in the suburban management bunker, wearing an orange down parka against the cold.   Of course, everyone else was in casual clothes because the heat was working fine, and the TV lights probably made it uncomfortably warm, but, you know, image was more important than substance.

At one point he urged everyone to stay off the roads and take public transportation.  Then, he immediately announced that they would shut down trains and buses in about an hour.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

That's our hurricane up here Not a problem up here until your heat don't work or your water lines freeze, we're always hanging on for the ride when you live out of the city

Wee bee using natural gas up here, but if that goes down wee still have a bunker full of coal and can switch boilers in a moment, albeit it will take time to build up a head of steam.

We also have 100 kW of generator in the power house. Our max usage (on Sundays only) is 40 kW, most of the time we run around 23 kW of usage.

I remember the blizard of 1997, 18 inches of snow, highways closed, a greayhound bus stranded in our parking lot, well we could put the passengers up in the old dorm, but it was gas powered asnd needed eleketricity to iopperate. Our Coal Boilers needed elektrisity to opperate. It was that summer when we voted to install the generator. Havens seen a blizzard since.

For another thing why not go fishing back to an interior lake no one goes to. If the stories of a beast that comes out at night is really real from the hikers that have been back there. On top of that my brother's friend Mike McMann said do not go back there

If they cannot tell a beast from a bear... I'll send the Manticore out to enlighten them!

Kevin:

Tomorrow is the 7th dentist appointment I have had in a span of six weeks; two "deep" cleanings; three cracked teeth requiring two crowns; one of the temporary crowns broke the day after I got it.  It had been 9 years between dental visits because I do not like going to the dentist.

Still waiting on our contractor for our bathroom project; he claims to be sick, but he is not responding to texts.  It is quite possible he is sick, but my wife is running out of patience.  I do not want to learn how to lay tile, but I may have to.  Worse part of that process will be setting toilets; which I can do, but do not like doing.

Remember the tin can; the MKT's central Texas branch...

Tile is really easy, and fun, if you buy the right tools. Also, if you do it yourself you can do things contractors charge way high $$$ for.

I had never had a problem setting a toilet until the most recent attempt when I managed to roll the wax ring into the flange.

I have completely lost patience with the sliding door contractor.

My wife and I flunked our dental visits.

My dentist, from the earliest I remember, had a dental assistant Ms. Horne.  I aways thought the 'e' should not be silent.  She was very attractive, but wore a ton of make up, and false eyelashes.  At my last visit 20+ years later, she was still hot.  I could not remember her name yesterday......until I saw the checkout girl at the new dentist.

Her hair was 90% blonde highlights, black eyebrows, 1" long false eyelashes, which looked better than you would think, and heavy but attractive eye makeup.  However she had the narrowest face I have ever seen on an adult.  With or without makeup, she was no Ms Horne.

My wife had a broken crown and a suspicious area on xray where she had a previous root canal.

My hygienist was unlike any I have ever had.  She started poking at my gums and started chanting 3 3, 3 2,2 2, 3 2, 4 4, 3 4..... and on and on.  Eventually a scribe came in the room and she repeated all this as he entered it into the computer.  It is a measure of your gum tooth tightness and 4 is not a good number.  She wants me to get a waterpik and come back in 6 weeks.

Im father had receding gums and went through a long and painful series of surgeries.  I don't want that.

That is a measurement in miliimeters of the open pocket by your teeth.

Mine have all been 5-6 for twenty years now. Maybe that is just the way my mouth is built because I have had no adverse problems from those deep pockets.

If I was your age and had 3s and 4s, I would be dancing in the streets.

I wish I had the other type of deep pocket.

Good Evening,

Watching a film of interviews with D-Day vets. Very interesting and sobering.  I raised a glass to them and one to Dad. Many said they never talked about it with their kids. My Dad didn't much either until he had a stroke on Nov.11,1973. He had another exactly one year later.

Dave, nice score on those RDCs. I thought about one but they are too new for my RR, which is now 1954. Besides they wouldn't look good on my small layout.

About 15 years ago my dentist was concerned about my gums so I had a series of deep cleaning using high pressure water. It did help and stopped the shrinking of my gums. I've had a couple of root canals and they were no big deal. He was a great dentist but he retired aboyt 5 years ago.

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Charlie Angel for Robbie, it is hard to lose a good friend. While I did not want another dog I am sure glad I meet Dirk Pip. He is now my little buddy, does his happy dances when I come home.

Vetrans Day at the work front. Meet a X Air Force Pilot that was Air Born Qualiffied and claims he made 210 jumps? Hum, at first I thought he was a Para Jumper like Jan. Nope, he was a F 4 pilot for a while and flew C-130's later. I missed the full story because I was writting up a ticket and talking with the wife. Makes my 15 jumps look like small patatoes.

Later. Ken and Dirk says woof, woof.

Looks a nice meal, Bear.    My kind of cooking.  I shall be cooking pork and mushroom stir fry Oriental style tonite. Smile

I have finished the backscene on the layout.   Just little bits to add.   Then I might be able to get back to running trains.

My Grandfather arrived in France about a week after June 6th. He was wounded and on his way home within two weeks. Those were the only days in the field he knew after almost two years in the army. It changed him forever.

Quiet in the diner...

I walked through the yard and picked up all the debris from the storm yesterday. No real damage to report. My Queen Palm lost a couple of fronds, and a whole bunch of plastic bags and garbage ended up in my hedges.

All-in-all, it is OK.

Spent nearly an hour on the phone with Wellcare, my pharmacy insurance because I had move. Mail order to a different state is a change in policies,

The follow up is an email that says my application is incomplete.  In what way they did not say, but I am already insured by them and all that is changed is my address.  I had to call again, deal with the press 2 of this and 1 for that, and finally get to a real human being 8,000 miles away.

He looked up my info but system won't let him acutally see anything but that it is "incomplete"  He says he will kick it upstairs and call me back in 3 days.

I talked to a landscaper last Thursday and he never got back to me with an estimate.  His son called today, dad had a heart attack and bypass surgery on Friday.  He is on the mend and according to his son, has calculated that he will be able to go deer hunting in 2 weeks.  He calculated wrong, he's not going to be able to go up a ladder or fire a rifle that has any kick to it.

The weather report just stated we are to receive two cold fronts in the next few days, and this should bring an end to Hurricane Season 2020. There should be enough cool air to prevent any more Tropical Depressions from forming.

The season does not officially end until November 30th, but if the last three weeks are completely quiet I will be happy.

We broke all the records this year.

There is still a sail boat wedged beneath the Matlacha Bridge.

In keeping with another thread, Matlacha is "Matt-Leh-Shay".

EDIT: Nevermind, they just said there is a new formation South of Cuba that could develop in spite of the cold fronts...

EDIT 2: They just said that there is minimal chance of this formation developing into a Tropical Depression. But, if it managed to develop, it would be named Iota. I guess it would be a small storm.

Laugh
