I, too, am thinking about a new computer.  My old desktop is wearing out.  It was a very good machine in its day, but the graphics card has failed and the CPU overheats and shuts down.  Besides, it's a Windows XP machine, no longer being updated, and many applications demand Windows 10 now.  Mostly, I use my tablet now, but dang it, I still want to play Flight Simulator!  Even that will need all new hardware, as Windows 10 doesn't support my old flight home and foot pedals.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Enchilada supreme with rice and beans please.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll be ordering extra wires/joiners for both 4x8 layouts.

My oldest sister Torin passed last night from her own battle with brain cancer, although a different type than mine, for whatever that's worth. She will be missed but not forgotten. At least she is no longer in pain.

Enjoy your day and evening folks. Cheers! Rob

Rob, in this case I guess it’s for the best, it’s hard to see a loved one suffering, my condolences to the family and friends.

Now it is one delivery per week.

Are you serious?  I remember 2 deliveries a day at my father's store, but that had to be in the 60's.

Having moved a couple months ago, we have 75% less junk mail.  I don't know when I've received a real letter from someone. The real mail is all financial, from banks, insurance companies (10 pages of 10 different languages) and utilities.

It's warm in the Shenandoah Vallery, low 70's, low 40's at night.  We will enjoy it while it lasts.  I wouldn't mind seeing some snow on the mountains.

Watching a group of 8 kids, high school or college age play golf.  6 of them walked toward the green while the other 2 were on the tee.  They all turned around and looked toward the tee, and into the sun.

According to the Internet, 180 mph is a reasonable speed for a pro to hit a golf ball.  Maybe hacks like these kids could do 90.  What are the chances they could see and dodge a ball coming at their heads and out of the sun?

The drive went over the green so they were safe.

Absolutely serious.   I cannot finish a bit of scenery because the item has been in our local office since last Tuesday and I am not allowed to collect it.

So I'm pulling out of the parking lot to go pick up Judy from work

This cute little bunny rabbit is doing a croppie flop in the middle of the street trying to drag himself to the curb with his front legs.  Apparently he was run over pretty bad of his hind quarters

I can't just drive by and let an animal suffer.  I just can't.  It would tear me up later.  I pulled over my truck.  Like distressed bunnies do he started crying,  I don't know if you've ever heard a bunny cry but it sounds like a little kid.  I stomped hard on his head.  One stomp and it was over.  I picked him up by his cottontail and lobbed him into the grass.  I know the northern harrier hawk that's been hanging around here will probably have him for breakfast tomorrow or a midnight snack tonight.

Still got a little tear in my eye but I know I did the right thing as I have done before

David I will join you as well in Britain for that Caribbean Chicken with black beans and rice.  Judy makes a mean New Orleans red beans and rice but I have never had the black beans and rice beforeDinner

Rob I am sorry for your loss

One too many things in one day

One of Judy's life long better friends called.  I know Deb and Jim is a guy I have known a long time and really like that guy.  The kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it

Quite concerned here.  Jim had extreme stomach pain to the point where he started breaking down in tears.  Jim is a big Burly Harley guy, he don't cry over nothing

Deb called and an ambulance came and rushed him to the hospital but she cannot go there because of the covid

Judy is crying and everything's a mess and she is hysterical and I am very worried because three years ago our best friend Scotty-O died from an aneurysm busting in his stomach.

The only reason I'm posting is because she's very busy on the phone and I'm quite concerned here with no one to talk to

This is going to be a long night but I just want my friend Jim to be okay

Rob I missed it, I am sorry about your sister.

TF I have heard a bunny cry and it is pathetic.  You did the right thing.

As for your friend Jim, severe stomach pain could be anything, ulcers, appendix, kidney stones, diverticulitis and then some really bad stuff.  Praying for the best.

Apparently I will have a Tropical Storm or Hurricane to deal with in a couple of days. I cannot remember a time doing Hurricane preparation in November.

Everyone be safe.

Judy was informed from Deb it's kidney stones Henry.  Better than an exploding appendix and we are thankful

That's what we got right now and waiting for the next update

Depending on severity surgery is needed, sometimes not

Serious but it could have been worse.  For right now we're glad Jim is in good hands and no longer in a crisis here

Judy has way settled down and I am thankful for that too

I thank you for your concern and give you my appreciation

Having had kidney stones I think I might be inclined to go for the bursting appendix!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

Kidney stone pain will bring anyone to tears!! When I had mine in 1989 I was getting morphine injected into my backside every three hours and it barely helped. My butt started to hurt almost as bad as the kidney stone!

On the plus side, surgery is not the only option. Ultrasound can be used to bust up the stone so it will pass more easily and the procedure is relatively painless.

The surgery is highly invasive. Basically they have to make a large incision, take your kidney out, lay it on your stomach, and then start dissecting it until they find the stone. Ultrasound is a much better option.

Fortunately I passed my stone about two hours before I was scheduled for surgery (ultrasound wasn't available back then). Unfortunately, I dropped the stone on the floor in the bathroom! The floor was dark brown which was the same colour as the stone. The nurse said that if I didn't find it I was going for surgery! I was on my hands and knees for quite some time before I managed to locate the stone. Being on my hands and knees in a hospital bathroom was disgusting!Ick!Ick!Ick!

Good luck to your friend TF!

Top of the evening to you all. It was a beautiful sunny day here today and the wife and I were running around doing a lot of stuff for this kitchen project. Everyone was in a great mood everywhere we went and we had a good day together.

Rob, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sister, you are in my thoughts tonight.

Finally unpacked the new RDC and the kitchen designer showed up so I still have not taken it for a spin but did take a quick pic of it. I think two will be enough for now.

I worked in the Pro shop at a golf course for two years in high school and saw two bad golf ball meets head injuries. The weird part was that both accidents happened on the same part of the course. The drives that struck the blow were long so the odds of that happening were pretty low but it happened. I called the ambulance both times when someone came running into the Proshop to report it and I ran out with the first aid kit. No cell phones back then.

TF, I am glad you had the courage to do the right thing with the rabbit, doing the right thing is often the hardest thing.

I have really waved the white flag on this kitchen reno as too much had to be coordinated with all the people involved. I just told the designer to bring in her own people so I can just sit back and relax. I have a RR to build!

We get mail 5 days a week but parcel delivery is 6 days a week as that is the only way the Post Office can keep up. I would be fine with once a week on all the other stuff which does not amount to much as everything is electronic nowadays.

I was driving along not far from home and there was a town where one did not exist a few days ago! It turns out it is Smallville for a new Superman series and they have built it for an expectant five-year lifespan. Driving around today we counted 19 movie/TV sets we passed by. I looked up when we got home to see how many were filming today and there was 53. Lots of work for anyone that wants a job. If I wasn't so wrecked it would be a fun gig for a retired guy to be on a production crew. The few I have been on with the kid, they were all having a lot of fun.

This set for the show "Bates Motel" was near my house in the middle of nowhere on a country road. I swear they had it built in a week and torn down in two days after the series ended. Fans could be seen walking around it all the time, it was left unattended when they were not there filming. Both were empty shells with interior shooting done on a sound stage.

Bear, that is quite a while for Larry to be MIA, hope he is OK.

Just about time to hit the mattress. Maybe tomorrow I can run my RDC.Cowboy

All the best to all.

T F, glad to hear your friend's condition isn't too serious. I have heard a bunny cry out but it was very short. We have Great Horned Owls nearby and by the end of winter there aren't many bunnies around.

Good day all.   I have been watching the Virtual Railway Exhibition and one of the exhibits is 'Tackeroo'   in which during the time of the portrayal of the scene in 1917/8 the New Zealand Rifle Brigade had returned from the front.

An interesting layout imho.

The news is predicting that we will have sustained 40-60 mile per hour winds for 36 hours with gusts up to 75 miles per hour tonight and Monday morning. The storm track suggests these winds will be coming from the East.

We are ready. The wind direction gives us a high likelihood of losing power because of where my backyard neighbor's Mimosa Tree is close to the transformer.

I would be more comfortable if the new impact resistant patio door was installed. It is not doing any good in the garage.

Yep, this is not a good week to be in Florida.

They are predicting that after the storm moves into the Gulf Of Mexico, it will hook back to the East and hit Florida's West Coast again. The forecasts for what it does after Wednesday do not agree much, so we are just being told to be prepared and stand by.

The hurricane screens are up on the future train room windows, all the other new windows are Category 5 rated, so no preparation there.

The big front window will only be a problem if the storm comes back and we end up on the South side of the rotation.

Gee Dave, you certainly got my mouth watering with the mention of Beef Wellingtons!

The recipe from Cooks' Illustrated is for one single large roast but I much prefer the idea of doing single portions like your picture shows. For one thing, I can get more pastry!!! Another thing is that I can sear Dianne's portion so it is much more well done than what most people would like. Don't ever serve Dianne pink beef! Also, our DIL Kaitlin hates mushrooms so I can leave the mushroom pate out of hers. Her loss!

I bought a bottle of Madiera a couple of weeks ago for the mushroom pate part of the recipe. All we have to do is choose an occassion, but with Covid, get togethers are rare.

Cheers!!

Good Evening,

A very unusual day here weatherwise. It was 65F, cloudy, humid and no wind. Spent some time outside with Robbie.

Dave, Beef Wellington sure sounds good. Last time I had some was a few years ago. I think it had fois grois in it.

I did butter chicken burgers tonight with peach chutney. They were really good.

Hi Kevin,

Hopefully in the morning you will discover that you were overly cautious. Otherwise, your neighbours will be kicking their own butts!

We are blessed here in southern Ontario in that we have very few serious weather events. I hope that the powers that be will be intelligent enough to do the things that will keep our climate that way. I can't imagine having to go through what thousands of Americans have suffered as a result of climate change. My heart goes out to them.

I am believing I was over-cautious. It is almost 2:00 AM and all we have had is a gentle breeze and light rain. This has been 100% a non-event.

Also, my hurricane screens only go onto 5 windows, and they are very easy to install and remove. Most of my neigghbost have the corrugated accordian shutters that take all day to install. It is a no-brainer for me to secure the house.

David, thanks for the link to Tackeroo, most interesting. For years our WW1 histories concentrated on the ANZACs at Gallipoli, what happened to the New Zealand Division on the Western Front was almost an afterthought. This has been rectified in recent years. My English Grandfather joined the 13th Hussars in 1914 but was invalided out, as the result of a training accident, in 1916.

I am definitely over-safe for this part of the storm. We are having very heavy rains right now and the entire back yard is flooded.

However, there is no wind. Those wind-gusts of over 50 miles per hour never came... thank goodness.
