Good morning all. A day of bright sunshine with a shower or two later.
Doing a little railway modeling then run some trains.
It is 'Burger Friday' Japanese style. Double chicken katsu burger with katsu sauce, salad and wedges. That should keep me busy a little while.
A few beers and all is well.
Thoughts and Peace to all who require.
Stay safe.

I cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought
Good morning, everyone.
We just got back from taking the daughters and families to a southern resort. A week of great times with the whole family -- until we got home.
There was an ice storm here Tuesday, a bad one. One of my oak trees has a top broken off about 15 feet from the top. Lots of branches, some of them pretty big, all over the property. It will be a long day of chainsaw work and hauling. Then I can start on the leaves that the large maple trees lost -- all at once.
When we drove home and I saw what was here, I just about turned around to head south again. At least I won't sweat with the work -- it's 22°F (-5°C).
I hope everyone has a good day, especially those of you with health problems. You are in my thoughts.

Good morning
Cool and crisp here in NE Ohio.
Nice to find a little extra doe around the house
Spare-doe by Edmund, on Flickr
Just before sunset last night and she wandered up one of the walking paths and right on by the house. Nice to have a visitor
Here's some nice work if you qualify:
Old Joe Woodworth has been beating gold for 63 years — and using the same hammer! Railroad link? Pullman cars and several other railroads used gold leaf lettering on cars and locomotives throughought the mid-1950s.
I've been up all night so I guess it is time to make up the lower berth. Have the porter wake me in Kaikoura...
Friday the 13th and all's well!
Cheers, Ed
Good morning, everybody.
I'll have coffee and a donut, please.
I hope all of you are doing well.
Happy model railroading !

Living the dream.
CNCharlie,
Your package was delivered on the 12th according to Canada Post. Did you get it?
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good Afternoon,
A frosty day here but it is sunny.
Dave, I had a post all done last night but it disappeared. I was on my tablet and typing on it is a slow process so I gave up. Yes, the package came yesterday and I thank you very much for it. So generous of you to send it.
We had Robbie in yesterday to the vet for a special blood test on his liver. Won't get the results for a few days as it has to go to a lab in Ontario. His surgery is scheduled for Nov. 30. This is costing us a bundle but the little guy is worth it. All I want for Christmas is for him to recover and have a good outcome.
Well soon time to go for a grocery pick-up.
CN Charlie

Hi CNCharlie,
I hope Robbie's outcome is positive.
Happy Friday the 13th diners!
Flo, give the gang and I a please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.
Over all a pretty good day. Wife Dirk and I went to the Vet to get his heart guard, paid the water bill, went to the Library to return a book and visited the park. Dirk goes nuts when he gets too the park? He Loves to pee on things!
Got the leaves mulched up in the front yard. Then sat out with Drik.
Only sort of bad luck. Wanted some Red Top BBQ Pork Ribs tonight. Seems there manager does the delivers and he was off today. Delivery fee is only $3.00 so well worth it.
Charlie Hope Robbies blood test come back good.
Later Ken and Drik says Woof, Woof Robbie!

Came across a video of the New Zealand railways story, about 1 1/2 hrs. quite interesting.(You Tube) Have put the second deer in the freezer, some in the smoker, (to those who will ask, I use apple wood and alder) and gave a third one to a close friend of mine I have hunted with for over 50 years, he has stage 4 bone cancer and won't be around much longer, getting old really sucks---have one tag left to fill for deer. There have been so many deer killed here on the Island that the "Feed the Hungry" location is refusing to take any more, they have been flooded. Saturday the gang at the "habba" got together, drove a patch of woods and killed 15. My Chessie pup weighs 88 pounds at 12 months, the last deer I tagged weighed 82. (they used to average 130-140-for does) The deer have been breeding like mice, and have stunted in size because of competition for food.
My supply of apples for jelley, and cider, were eaten over a period of two nights, along with my day lillys, and what was left of my hostas. The deer have also tipped all the raspberry plants that I have around the house. (Eaten the ends off the stalks)
I have been fortuniate in being able to take all the deer from my deck, (shooting under a roof does have it's downside,(I use a Mk.5 .303 Jungle Carbine, made in Jan. of 45) I have been able to recover all with my power cart, I can hang on to the handle bars and make my way to the downed game. ( track size is about 1/10 th. the size of a D-2. The tracks are 8 inches wide, and almost 4 feet long. It will run at a slow stagger.)
My recovery from the last double incursion into my heart has slowed me down, don't like it---too much that I have to do before snow flies. At least I have not turned into a worm farm----yet---
Charlie, hope all turns out for the positive with the pup.
Best wishes for all, prayers for those in need, from the Island---

Well, I survived Friday The 13th.
That time I spent training with the Camp Crystal Lake running team has really paid off.

What an informative interview, Bear! During an earthquake do I want to be inside a tunnel or along the shore to see the tsunami coming in? Choices — choices?
Such a beautiful territory! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the kiamoana
I hope everyone is well and safe
If I was in a restaurant and saw anyone eating something that looked like the kiamoana that Bear posted, I would say I don't need a menu, just bring me that!
Yummy!
That Kiamoana will make the Chicken Curry I will cook tonite look sad.
Howdy .
Bear .... Thanks for sharing the video of the train driver talking about the exciting earthquake experience. Also, I liked the video of the train running along the coast on that beautiful rail line.
I suppose, nobody will starve while we are in NZ !
Everybody: ..... Have a good day !
Eveing Diners
Ed, that little doe will bring some Bucks to your house! Rim Shoot.
Jan Glad you not a worm farm buddy. I wonder in CCW had a song "Huning out my back door?"
My Train Day's maybe numbered. Tried to change out the rear coupler on my PRR Shark A unit. My hands where trembling so badly I could not get it done, plus eye sight up close has gone too Ash Pitt. My hand writting all so sucks rail spikes now. For simple stuff like drinking coffee, opeing a door and cooking I am fine. Fine motor skills, not so great.
Seems like all of you diner talk about is food! I try to stay on a GL freindly diet to keep my A1C in line. But nope, nothing but food I should not eat.
So I gave into tonight and bought a full slab of Red Top BBQ Pork Ribs. Came with 2 sides and extra hot BBQ sause on the side. Total was $25.62 but seems well worth it.
Later Ken and Dirk says Woof, Woof.
Good afternoon all from the very wet West Coast.
Been busy getting the ducks lined up on this new kitchen, the wifes neurological issues has reared its ugly head yesterday as she has been doing too much to get ready. Today I removed everything from all the cupboards and the restoration crew is in tomorrow and Tues to rip up the floor/subfloor and the electrician is in on Saturday and the new cabinets go in on Dec 2 and then the new floor goes in and then the moulding gets done and then it gets painted. All by Christmas hopefully, but the usual 20 people are not coming for Christmas so it doesn't really matter.
My Sister gets her new knee tomorrow and my daughter is getting her gallbladder out Dec 16 after exams if she can last without another attack. The surgeon said he'll get it out with a phone call if she has an attack. Nineteen is really young for gallbladder problems but it runs in the family on my side big time, except for me, but I am not holding my breath.
The food in the diner has been pretty scrumptious here in NZ and I have been enjoying it all. I had roast lamb a lot when I was there.
Ed, I enjoyed the video about the gold pounding. I would last about 30 seconds in that job before I would need a straight jacket. My Grandfather was a goldsmith until poor health made him quit. The gas attacks in WWI and the fumes from the goldsmithing gave him breathing issues so he became a mailman where he could be outside breathing that -40 Winnipeg air.
Dave, you were right about the Rapido RDC coming with lots of bags of spare bits. I have no idea what they all are and will have to read the manual. The RDC2 had more bags than the RDC1 did.
Good videos, good pics and good food in the diner this month, I may not leave NZ, I didn't want to last time I was there.
The pups are really getting into the cute stage, the wife is now going to keep two here for now as she is so delighted with what she got.
My Mom gave me a bottle of Port 30 years ago so the wife said let's open it to celebrate. I think Mom spent about $26.00 for it in 1980 and the current price is $118.00CA at the Port snob store. It is gone now and we still have not decided what to celebrate. It was sure gooooood. It was rated 91/100 and I have to concur.

Hawk chases a rock dove. Rock dove crashes into window (presumably at full throttle). Milliseconds later, hawk crashes into window (not enough room for dynamic brakes to have much effect). Window breaks. Hawk and rock dove on ground. The end.
Janie, I'm gonna need a shot of Jack and a coke with no ice.

When I bought my last house, it had five 6-foot square windows on the south side. The first summer, I had a number of bird strikes, some fatal to the birds. My solution was to hang plants inside, In the middle of each window. I never had a problem after that.

Good Evening,
Ken, sounds like you need stronger glasses, a curse of getting older. I use 2.5 readibg glasses for reading but need 3.5 for modeling. Sometimes I wish they were 4.5. Sometimes I'm shaky too but it seems worse in the morning.
We got the results of Robbie's liver test and it was better than it was in the summer so it is a go for his surgery.
I started on the stock car kit Dave sent me. I decided to paint more of the sides white as it just didn't go high enough, at least in my judgement. I use Tamiya masking tape. Really works well.
I'm watching Top Gear as I type this.
Good evening, everyone.
The wind is whistling outside. I don't need any more yard cleanup work -- I'm tired of it.
That New Zealand food kiamoana looks great! I wish I could have had that tonight.
I have never seen the Friday the 13th movies, so it took me a while to figure out Kevin's "Camp Crystal Lake" references.
Every Saturday night, our local TV station shows some episodes of the 1960s' Roger Moore series, The Saint. One is on the TV right now. I enjoy those. I was in junior high when those were on, and I loved them. They are still good today.
I haven't touched the layout in over a week. Maybe tomorrow I can run some trains. I have several other layout projects to finish.
I'm thinking about making some major changes to the layout. I need to figure out how to add a staging yard, something I didn't do when I started this. Live and learn.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.
Good evening everyone,
Today is November 14th. November 10th was the 45th anniversary of the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. So, here is a tribute in memorial for the crew.
edit: I couldn't get the video to work so, anyway it was the anniversary.

Hope this one will do, Jim.

I have a feeling I will be going to McCarter's Barbeque in Fort Myers soon for a full slab. That sure sounds good.

A little side note about Lightfoot's recording of the song and the track that is on the album, it was the first time the band had played the song together, they nailed it the first time.
I have been watching The Queens Gambit on Netflix, it was pretty good, I really liked the ending.
Must be bedtime.
May you dream what no mortal has dared dream before.
Heartland Division CB&QI suppose, nobody will starve while we are in NZ !
Bear,
The dogs,(3) are kept out of the kitchen when I am processing deer. Cooked leftovers are another matter. Many years ago I was with another dog trainer, working with a Lab that had the propensity to eat about half of the ducks he was sent to retrieve. When talking with the owner, Frank found out that as they were cleaning the ducks scraps would be thrown to the dog on occasion. They taught the dog to eat ducks----Frank was a very blunt person, and I cannot put down his response upon finding this out, here on this thread.
Many, many years ago I broke a dog from running deer, that, and snake proofing, are two things I will never do again----
