Have slowly been coming to the realization that I don't have to build models to the best of my ability as that drastically slows progress on the railroad.  New plan of attack is to build "good enough" for now, can circle back and upgrad or replace as time permits.  Meanwhile, I will hopefully be seeing faster progress on the layout and hopefully that helps to keep me motivated.

Mike:

This is really a good point for me.  I also got a little bogged down trying to get something perfect.  After a while, I was beginning to get tired of the whole thing.

When I could accept "good enough" for some things, I could move on to new projects.

Also, since I do N Scale, I'm the only one who sees or knows about the imperfections.  When anyone sees the layout, they never notice the lack of perfection.

Wow,  you can't even tell after the model is painted.  That looks like some good wonderful stuff Kevin.

Can't wait to try it.  I can think of a handful of things right now.

Never heard of that Kneadatite, Thanks for the Info. Isn't that something, I learn something everyday.

I use it for several things:

1) Filling small gaps in models. I have scuplted  t top of roof ridgelines with Kneadatite and been able to match the original plastic shingles perfectly.

2) It is the best motor mount adhesive I have ever used. It has a 90 minute working time, but is semi-rigid. That gives you plenty of time to make fidly adjustments, and the motor will stay exactly where you leave it once you are satisfied. It will not let the motor go once it is cured.

3) It is great to put behind loose details to beef them up. I use it behind all kinds of detail on models I build. Once it cures, it will never break, and the model will stand up to being handled.

4) It is the best thing ever for sculpting into details to make them fit correctly.

This feedwater heater had a gap because the diameter on the brass casting was different than the boiler diameter. A little kneadatite and some sculpting, and it is fine.

Hi guys!  I'll pop in to say hello.  Hopefully make up for some of the missing regulars.

My wife's parents and sister both live close by, and we've started a coronavirus meal sharing program.  Once a week one household cooks and delivers dinner for everyone.  Front porch drop-off only.  Practices social distancing, and makes for a little fun while we weather the pandemic.

Hope everyone is healthy and safe.

Good afternoon all

I just got back from the halls texturing my ceiling repairs.  I didn't poly anything off.  I just had Judy drag a tarp ahead of me.  I'd catch up with my compressor and hopper,  Spray and help her bucket rag the walls down and then she vacuumed the over spray.....NextYes

Done.....Tag Team SaturdayPirate

Your right Kevin,  Lion has been a little scarce lately.  I thought something else didn't feel quite the same around here.  Lion always has something interesting to contribute.

Never heard of that Kneadatite, Thanks for the Info.  Isn't that something,  I learn something everyday.  I'll have to check that stuff out.

I agree about regular tomato juice. It always seems to taste like the tin can. Clamato always seems watered down

I am a V-8 juice kind of person. We ran out a few days ago, not good at all.

But now it seems we are missing the Bear.

Lion has not been around in a bit either.

Kevin - as you may have noticed, I was lazy with my track work and didn't fill most of the nail holes in the middle of the ties. Is there any easy way to go back and fill them after the track is installed and painted or do I get to fill sand and repaint.

JR, I use a product by Polymeric Psystems (PSI) called "kneadatite", which is a two color epoxy tape. I buy it from Mega-Hobby now, theirs is usually fresh, and this stuff has a shelf life. It gets very hard when it is old.

I just fill in the hole and sculpt some wood grain with a steel tool. Keep the tool wet or it will stick to the Kneadatite.

It is very easy. By the way, Kneadatite has hundreds of uses on the layout, but model railroaders seem notto have warmed up to this amazing product like other hobbiests.

It's good to hear Brent is safe and well.  Hopefully he can find his way back to us soon so we can all toast a warm welcome back with a  Glenfiddich on his dimePirate

But now it seems we are missing the Bear.  The absence of his kind self and his humor does not go by unnoticed.

Good Saturday Morning, Crew! Last week I had X-rays taken of my new replacement right hip at my surgeon's office and there are no problems. Yeah I'm going to drive around the neighborhood this weekend for the first time in months and I hope that I still remember how the car works. Laugh In another month I should be able to get back to a normal routine although I will need a heel lift for my left shoe as my left leg is a bit shorter than my right one after surgery which is to be expected. I hope that will also relieve the pain in my left knee and muscle pain in my back, too. I'm working on an F&C Erie RR express milk car and have most of the body assembled. The Erie had several hundred of these made by Greenville and many were converted to carry express freight and packages after the milk traffic disappeared. The reefer doors were simply replaced with internal steel sliding ones. Here's a pic of the express milk as built:

http://www.rgvrrm.org/about/railroad/erie6603/

Now I just need to order Tichy brake details and some grabs to get back to work on this and I'll  paint it in the Erie two-tone green with yellow stripes. Have a great weekend everyone!

Good Morning All,

A regular and a western breakfast wrap please Chloe. Went to seniors grocery hours this morning. That was better. probably around a dozen of us in the store which is now marked every 6 feet and has arrows for isle direction as well. They had everything on my list and I found a tin of disinfectant wipes as well. They had 6 on the shelf but I only took one because I am not one of "those" people. Plastic barrier at the checkout and all the self serve checkouts were closed. Used the disinfectant wipe on the boxes and containers and i'm good to go after washing up.

In the shop today to do some cleaning and work on my lotus 18. The shift linkage is done but now I disassemble to sent to plating and start on the new radiator/oil cooler set. I'm also modding a tail piece for the VW gearbox I use so I can add gussets to prevent breaking the back off the selector. All pretty straightforward though I have to drop the oil filter mount 4" to clear the revised shifter.

On the train front, I am going to try to make up some chain link fence using some small (.040") steel tig rod and see how that goes. I have a resistance soldering rig and some silver bearing solder so hopefully it will work out.

Kevin - as you may have noticed, I was lazy with my track work and didn't fill most of the nail holes in the middle of the ties. Is there any easy way to go back and fill them after the track is installed and painted or do I get to fill sand and repaint. This wouldn't be a problem if it wweren't for the great pics you took on your diorama so I'm asking you.

Probably not the way I would have had a fire sale on rental cars. The converters and exhausts get so hot they are always at risk of setting tall grass on fire if parked hot.         Ciao, J.R.

I hate regular tomato juice with a passion!

I agree about regular tomato juice. It always seems to taste like the tin can. Clamato always seems watered down, to me — and clam flavor is the very last ingredient.

Good morning

Hit the rack early last night.  It was one of those bed times that reminded me of that one song by The Who.  " To The Sound Of Old T Rex ".  He who gets to sleep first wins and it wasn't meLaugh

The bloody front.  I agree Ed,  tastes like a tin can.  I prefer beer out of a bottle as well.  I like Mr & Mrs T bloody mix.  It's very rare I have one, so it's an occasional treat.  I tend to shy away from booze.  Hard liquor is like Pringles to me.  " Once you pop you can't stop " Laugh  could be the Scottish.  A man has to know his limitations and I learned mine many years agoWhistling  I enjoy some beers two, three evenings a week.

Well,  I woke up at about 5:45 this morning and made some coffee.  It seems Judy is sleeping in this morning.

We are going to work on some more spring cleaning and organizing today.  This place is starting to look so spotless it's ridiculous.  Spring cleaning always makes ya feel good.

Take care allWink

I like my BMs with V-8 and I add a bunch of spices to it, depending on my mood, or what happens to be handy. Haven't tried gin, though. Amsterdam Vodka is my choice.

For a gin & tonic I always reach for Tanqueray but my nephew recently suggested Hendrick's which I've yet to try. Maybe I'll give a gin bloody mary a taste tonight? I guess this is called a "red snapper"?

A gin Caesar or Red Snapper aren't all that unusual...

So many choices Big Smile  Cheers, Ed

Tomorrow will be NY strip steak. I think I'll have a BM with that (no, the other kind of BM!)

I am a bit strange when it comes to Bloody Marys vs Bloody Caesars. I hate regular tomato juice with a passion! It sticks in my throat. The only viable use for it is to make tomato aspic (jellied tomato juice with horse radish and worcestershire, and sometimes fiddleheads). On the other hand, I could drink Clamato juice all day long!

We make our Caesars in a 16 oz. draft beer glass with gin instead of vodka, and I add 32 squirts of Franks Hot Sauce and eight squirts of Worcestershire (a bit less heat for Dianne). They are great!!!Thumbs UpDrinksWowYeah

Cheers!!!

Hi gang!

I just got word from Brent (Batman) that he is safe and sound. He has not been able to post since the pop up ads started, but he has been able to follow the forums. At first he couldn't even sign in.

He is working with what he described as "the crack team" at Kalmbach to resolve the issue. (I choose to interpret the word 'crack' in a positive sense!Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh). He will be back as soon as the problem is solved.

Cheers!!

All the rental cars at the airport are jam packed in the overflow parking lots out in the woods because there are no travelers, and today at the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, they caught on fire!

Over 100 cars have burned, and the fire deprtments have been fighting the blaze for hours.

Good evening all.

The madness that is PAGE 5.......

Zoe - A slice of apple pie, and a coke please. Thanks.

W*^k - Another garage on our "do not deliver" list, this one due to an exposure incident, and a garage has closed until further notice due to lack of customers.

Covid-19 - All of PA is now under stay at home orders, and all in the US are now urged to wear cloth masks, scarves, or bandannas over their face if they must go out. I had already started this due to the fact I have asthma.
Wal-mart is now limiting amount of customers permitted in the store, as is HomeDepot. The grocery chains of Wegmans and Giant Eagle have also made some new rules due to the virus.

Trains - Working on a few small projects still.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

I have heard that any injury or catastrophic disaster is still funny, as long as it happens to a duck.

Yes, yes..... I have heard this as well but only if the duck is in the middle of a very big lake.

Good Evening All,

Ken - of course the GG-1 is a good puller. the prototype was based on the New Haven EP-3 electric. They even borrowed one to test the concept on their catenary. I feel better if your running with the pantographs down. I really didn't want to build all that wire stuff when I'm clumsy enough without it.

Did some more good enough. Pics at 11. And I'll definitely have a glass of red wine. Enough with the basement for one night.

 Eveing Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please, Ed a Crown Royal and Dirk half a dog treat.

Did a little running but never got out of the car. Picked up meds for the wife, went to the bank and Taco Bell. OK, I fibbed a litte. We did go to a small park to walk Dirk and we where pretty much by our selfs.

3 Soft Shell Taco's filled me up? Just seems strange, normally I could eat 6.

Train Front. I have not ran the PRR Sharks for a few days. They seemed to fighting each other and making a screeching sound. Tonight I ran the A and B on my K-10 Mining section / test track. It is a 9.5' x 5.0' and can be a enclosed oval when I want. B unit is much faster than the A unit so I guess that is the sound I had been hearing. Going to try some speed matching Saturday.

Ed Good advices concerning the PRR GG1. It is now my go to Passanger Train engine! I love the looks of it and I bet it could out pull a Proto E-7!

Time to walk Dirk, so later and Dirk say's I need to Pee Daddy, Woof, Woof!

The Kennedy Curse has struck again.

Robert K's granddaughter (40) and great grandson (8) went out in a canoe in the Chesapeake Bay yesterday.  We had 30 mph winds all day; it's still blowing around 20 mph today.  They found the canoe.  Water temp is 50 F, or 10 C for the rest of the world.

Some of those gosh-darned Yankees that stayed in Florida may possibly have been inticed by the land-grabbing developers that plowed up millions of acres of orchard and "wetland" property.

My first visit there was in 1971 and there was still quite a bit of the "old Florida" left, but it was being bulldozed at a rapid rate. Disneyworld opened later in October.
