Hey John, Rio
I still to this day love to catch an episode of the original Star Trek. I can watch Picard in the Next Generation too, I can sit through those. The original series is the best though. I don't have time for any of the other ones. Star Trek Enterprise I would rename The Ferengi Hour
My daughter Kaylee loves the original Star Trek and the Next Generation. Britt doesn't have the time of day for either one.
I could very well be a nerd but I love Captain James D. Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scotty. No producer will ever top these old classics ever again.
TF
I also love Run Silent, Run Deep, but my favorite is now Das Boot. I first saw it in a theater, in German but dubbed in English. Glad I had the English at times, but mostly my high school German held up.
There was one scene where I swear my ears popped.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Researching my father's own WW2 history, I stumbled on war diaries from the submarines. It was fascinating reading and I then read every book in the public library about WW2 subs. The captains still around from pre Pearl Harbor, were timid. Their successors were much more aggressive, but initially had defective torpeodos, which the Naval Ordinance Dept. didn't want to believe was true.
I would not want to have served in a submarine.

I never could get into Lost in Space but the original Star Trek actually holds up well for me too. The remastered version even better with CG space scenes!
BTW, does anyone know why Robert Petrick suddenly announce leaving the forums?

Track fiddlerI stumbled upon Lost in Space fumbling through TV channels in the middle of the night not too long ago. Yep, it was cheesy but I watched it anyway.
TF, I was in sixth grade when Lost in Space first started. I and my friends all got together to watch the opening show -- it had been promoted quite a bit. We loved it. We didn't see any of the silliness or illogical storylines -- all we saw was a neat space show.
A year later, TV sci-fi took a giant leap forward when we watched Star Trek's opening episode. That all we nerds talked about at school the next day.
I watched Lost in Space recently, and I couldn't believe how hokey it was. On the other hand, I still watch Star Trek original series and to me, it's still great.

Submarine movies, I'm going to watch U-571 tonight.
As a youngster I remember my brother and I used to watch Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I don't remember much about it other than we must have enjoyed it because we watched it all the time.
I'm sure it would probably be pretty cheesy if I saw it again. Most of the time you can't go back, things are not the same.
I stumbled upon Lost in Space fumbling through TV channels in the middle of the night not too long ago. Yep, it was cheesy but I watched it anyway. What else are you going to do in the middle of the night when you can't sleep?
Warning Will Robinson!
I love submarine movies, have any of you watched this series? I will flip an episode on when I can't sleep.

Hello,
Have time for a quick note. Getting things ready for this evening, and tomorrow evening, and the day after that.
Red October is a good movie, but I will still have to vote for Run Silent Run Deep asthe best submarine movie. Understanding that its all personal Preference. ahoooga ahooga, dive, dive.
Hope everyone's still sane under the quarantine

My daughter Britt is this fun loving kid who always comes up with funny stuff. She made a cat hat for all three cats. Now Tommy, the cat in the picture readily accepted his hat. He is the most personable of the three.
She had a bit of a struggle putting the hats on the other two cats. Britt is silly, she held the cats in the mirror so they could see themselves with their hat. Tommy loved his hat and keeps it on all day. She said he knows she made it for him because he was right next to her watching much of the time as she made them. The other two cats pawed them off immediately
So now Tommy has three hats.

Living the dream.
Good morning from the West Coast where it is a nice sunny day.
I have three yards of lawn dressing to spread today. I went and got a load late yesterday in the truck as our back yard looks like a WW1 battle field every year from the dogs digging their trenches. Every spring it requires repair. The dogs have a secure run that is 40' x 100' and they get the run of another part of the property when we are home which is 220' x 160' of lawn and that is where the repairs need to be made.
The soil place has it set up so you can drive in, phone the office with your order and they load your truck. You don't even get out of the truck.
The wife and I enjoyed our rum and Pepsis last night as it had been a month or so since we ran out. Went to a little liquor store in the sticks near where we live, walked in and grabbed a bunch of bottles of wine and a bottle of rum, scanned myself out paying by tap and wiped the bottles and my hands down with the wipes my wife had made up. She stole all the alcohol from the train room to make the wipes, no germ will survive.
Golden is a beautiful place for a hike and there is one (more of a stroll) at the spiral tunnels along what use to be the big hill that the Spiral Tunnels replaced. The grade was 4% and the carnage was nasty to say the least. The walk is a few km long and you can still see the wrecks where they met their end over a hundred years ago.
Thanks for the kind words on my thumb injury, the wife paints a layer or three of new skin over where the nail should be every morning and I am good to go. Wonderful stuff that.
Bears cartoon made me think of the old drill teams that worked the RR construction way back when, you know the one where Brent held the drill while Bear swung the sledge!
Now where is my shovel.
All the best to all
Good morning, everyone.
It's about as perfect a morning as you could hope. Sunny, 60s, slight breeze. Perfect.
I was going to work on wiring an outdoor outlet this morning. It would involve working with a drill in the attic. After seeing a picture of Brent's hand, I'm going to sit in my chair and watch Perry Mason reruns instead.
Have a great day.

Good morning
Not likely I get tired of BC pics. I always did love the wilderness. Thanks Ed.
My Daughter is keeping busy with all kinds of crafts. This week she's been crocheting up a storm.
Anti floor scratch boots for the chairs probably won't last long but it's something to do.
Holders for her art supplies.
And my favorite, the cat in the hat.
They have three of them.
Hopefully this might get Lions attention I'm sure she'd be happy to make him one.
Good morning .
Brent ... I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I bet it was painful. .. Apparently, you must use your other hand if you hitch hike.
Everybody ..... Have a nice day.

Just outside of Lucerne in May, 1985.
Glad you're sorted out with the log-in stuff, Brent.
Yesterday must have been a be mean to your thumb day. I flipped on the lights in the laundry room and one of the 4-foot fluorescent fixtures did not light up. Humm? This is one of the few that I have not converted to LED yet.
Well, no time like the present! So I proceeded to take out the ballast and get the "tombstones" wired up for the line-voltage LED tubes.
THREE hours later I saw the little electronic ballast sitting there and, ever curious, I wondered what was inside this thing and I was curious if there was a blown fuse in it or maybe a burned compomnent inside.
So I proceed to snap the metal cover off and, hello!!, took the PC board out and got one heck of a JOLT! Talk about keep alive capacitors. These things were still hot after being cut off three hours.
Ouch! I then proceeded to touch a screwdriver across some of the solder points and, yep, the sparks were still flying. The caps weren't all that large but they sure packed a wallop!
Lesson learned? Probably not! I still have that kind of curiosity — you know, the kind that killed the cat!
Cheers, Ed
Brent welcome back. Don't let your hand get infected. That picture reminds me of things I saw in my training that I wish I could un-see.
Is there a layman's explanation of what went wrong with the Kalmbach connection? If it happened to you I wonder who else is locked out in the cold.
hon30critter OUCH!! I hope you make a quick and full recovery, and that it is not too painfull along the way. Dave

I wasn't sleeping too well so I strolled out to the living room to see what was going on here
Good luck with that Brent Last I seen before I went to bed was the Bear still had the hammer
Nighty night then, sleep tight
I'm heading back to the rack
BATMANOf course Mr. stupid idiot had to put a driver bit into his thumb removing his nail completely or it wouldn't be a project. I looked at the removed nail when I did it and thought this is going to hurt as I went to yank it off, however it lifted right off having been completely removed. The good Dr. fixed me right up and sent me back into the rain complete with Saran wrap to ward off the rain drops.
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

cudakenDave My wife and I hope for a speedy recovery for your SIL.
Thanks Ken!
The planter boxes look good Brent, it's nice to see you back. You must have really drove the driver hard into your hand. I've done that many of times and I hate when that happens but it looks like you did, done a doosy.
Your hands look good though with the exception of the wrinkles from washing them so much.
Good to see you, I got to hit the rack, so welcome back.
Eveing Diners!
Flo, give the gang and I a please, Ed a Crown Royal and Dirk half a dog treat.
Work Front I have be came a Germophobe now! I ware plastic gloves when I open the door. When I get inside I wipe down the door handles on both sides with alchohol. Track fiddlerKevin, what are you remodeling? I hope you're tearing out walls downstairs to make room for your new layout after time well spent on your practice run
I don't have a downstairs, this is Florida!
I am tearing out the three small bedrooms and bathrooms.
This is phase 2 of the remodel. Phase 1 was the kitchen, living room, and dining room. That was done a couple of years ago.
Phase 2 is the new master bedroom and guest bedroom.
Phase 3 will be the lanai and landscaping.
Phase 4 will be the train room where the master bedroom is now.
York1The diner is one place that we can all enjoy without politics.
John, thank you for the reminder to keep that talk out of the diner.
WOW! Yes, it is good to be back! The ole Bat computor was burning the midnight oil trying to circumvent the shield put up by Kalmbach and in the end we pierced the veil. I am greatful to the team at Kalmbach as they are all working from home yet were able to return me to the fold.
The wife and I have been busy in this time of suppoedly self imposed isolation. We have been doing a lot of grocery runs for so many (elderly) that we would rather not see going to the store. Also we know several Doctors and nurses whose children have been evacuated to the Grandparents house while thier parents are doing battle in the ERs. Knowing some very senior Government employees we are hearing some eye rolling stories from the international front.
Shortly after the kid got back from Ottawa he came in and told us that his economics Proffessor had invited him to join a think tank on the current situation. This Proffessor has been advising the federal Government on policy and has been on the National news as well. So most mornings at 0500hrs West coast time 0800hrs Ottawa time, the kid is on a video feed in his bedroom taking part in putting a plan together for the Nation, though I think his young inexperirenced years make him more of a observer at this point in time. He wears a shirt and tie and has nothing but underwear on down below. I hope he doesn't wonder away from the computer and reveal himself by mistake.
The Canadian Government has taken a rather unique approach with the situation and has put the economy in what can be best descibed as a medically induced coma. I like it.
On one of our grocery runs for someone we had to go into the hinterland and on the way home passed a cedar mill in the boonies. The wife wanted planters to grow veggies to help survive the apocalypse so we went in to see if they were open. The sign said take what you need and phone the office and pay by credit card over the phone. Didn't see a soul. I buy there often and will be back as I liked their trusting way of doing biz and really good quality products.
Here are the planters I found time to build when I was locked out of the forum.

Them came 6000LBS of BS for the veggies to grow in.

That was a good one. Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon, directed by Ron Howard. I do have that one and will put it up on deck.
