My second valve procedure, they vacuumed the ICU at 4 am.

Good evening all.
Thanks to all for warm wishes of getting better. On that note: I am HOME tonight!
Still resting, still on meds (now oral), still not 100%, but can breathe well enough that the Dr gave the high green for me to rest at home.
Still a mandatory vacation, but I will stay and rest, as I do not wish to go through this again.
IV issue - After the girl I knew left for the night, another nice lady took over, who would normally be in the ER. (They were indeed going that crazy with new patients last night.) I was having more issues than normal, not even able to lay my arm on the bed it hurt so bad, so, as she was in checking the heart monitor (glitching yet again), I mentioned it. She examined the IV port, and questioned why it was located in my right hand. (Attempt 6 for an IV port on my admission night, and it is the only one that worked.) She thought maybe moving the IV port would help, but I kindly said no thanks. (I was NOT ready to go through THAT again!) I did explain my reasoning, which she understood. She tried to explain that it was probably a effect of my condition that the IV ports were such an issue, which I agreed it most likely was, but I still was not ready to be poked at again. Which she still understood.
We did try ice (the nurse I knew) and a hot compress (this nurse), with no help from either. (Actually, both hurt worse.) My right arm still could not rest comfortably on the bed, even after they switched back to straight saline solution for almost 2 hours. (I actually requested that be stopped as well.)
About 30 minutes after the saline was stopped, my arm no longer burned, but now felt as though someone had punched it hard. (Still does in one spot.) But it was now tolerable.
I fell asleep not long afterwards (around 530-6am) and was awoken by an unruly patient at about 630. I drifted back off, just before they woke me for a breathing treatment. No sleep for the weary last night!
I will have to keep in mind the steroid tip, but I hope I never need to use it!!!
Hope all are well, and all have a good night. I'm going to do my breathing treatment, and go to sleep.

York1Did you ever figure it out?
Never, it was only within about 12' of the front door. I did have an olfactory hallucination once, the best mouth watering smell of roast beef you can imagine. Two people having the same olfactory hallucination would be weird.
There was another story about a guy who runs a couple dozen drones and puts on a light show and flies them to form patterns, so the technology cost is within the budget people, rather than just governments.
BigDaddyThere was a distinctive smell of Pinesol inside the front hallway. When my wife got home, she could smell it too. She doesn't use it and we don't have any in the house.
Did you ever figure it out?
BigDaddyaliens from outer space are living amongst us and another about swarms of dozens of drones flying in formation in Colorado and Nebraska in the middle of the night.
Dozens of drones last night only 40 miles from my house. If I see any strange lights tonight I will call the government about several former students who I'm pretty sure weren't from our planet.

Yesterday I got home from the gym and my wife was out walking the dog. There was a distinctive smell of Pinesol inside the front hallway. When my wife got home, she could smell it too. She doesn't use it and we don't have any in the house.
Then we went to dinner with her sister and her husband. A family came in with 3 kids and the one year old was wearing what looked like a clear plastic football helmet, with no face shield. It looks nothing like the ones I googled up afterwards, which look like lacrosse or bike helmets, but I learned a new word:
Positional Plagiocephaly While most of us survived infanthood covered in blankets, sleeping on our bellies in our cribs painted with lead paint, now babies sleep on their back and their heads get deformed. The helmet looked like a 1950's idea of an astronaut helmet.
Yesterday CNN had an article about the 1st British astronaut, who thinks aliens from outer space are living amongst us and another about swarms of dozens of drones flying in formation in Colorado and Nebraska in the middle of the night.
I am going to blame aliens from now on and not the Russians.

Ken, great to talk with you last night. I didn't get a chance to ask, how is your daughter doing?
After I talked to you I ran trains for four hours! First time since early November. Everything ran flawlessly.
Cheers, Ed
ricktrains4824Richard- Whoops! You are right... Non-steroid indeed. Blindfold Must be the meds... It does indeed still cause the tachycardia a bit though. Nice catch.
I have been living with asthma for the past 50+ years. I can completely sympathize with the effects of Albuterol breathing treatments. My hands would shake so bad afterwards that I couldn't keep peas on a fork. Interestingly enough, the best treatment for my asthma has been regular bicycle riding. You would think it would have the opposite effect, but it doesn't. The effort causes my body to generate natural bronchodialors--basically adrenaline. I have heard that swimming is also effective, given the warm, moist air. I cannot confirm or deny as I don't swim, I sink. Good luck with your recovery.
Richard
Me agian......
Ricky, meant to add my hopes that you may get through the antibiotic trreatments soon, make a full recovery, and get back to a less painfull existance ASAP! Hurting and agony is not fun........ May it soon be a 30 and you can get back to the trains!

Somehow, I think you probably made the right decision...... Probably had a lot more fun at the hotel.
BigDaddyWe took our dates to the local reservoir, to watch the submarine races. back in high school.
There was a place like that on Canandaigua Lake when I was a teenager. I didn't like it! Too Crowded.... I knew of a gravel pit just down the road from my house that was totally secluded and private..... Ah, those were the days!
I'm all set if it actually snows again!
Actually I hope we do get some s#*w here that will stay on the ground for a few weeks.... My Lady Friend and I still want to take that romantic sleigh ride in the park near Rochester, and so far the weather and our schedules have not co-operated.

Good Afternoon!
Where has Mr. Winter disappeared to? We have temperatures up to 51F ahead of us, which I wouldn´t mind, if it were dry weather. But those temperatures come at the price of lots of ra*n and wind, making any time spent outside rather unpleasant.
Not my favourite time of the year!
During my time in high school, it was a spot close to the Agate Pass Bridge connecting the mainland with Bainbridge Island. Actually, on rare occasions, you could see a submarine on its way to Bremerton naval base. I can´t remember ever seeing one, but it may have been that I had my eyes cast on prettier sights, then.

Hey Ricky, see if pharmacy can add a little bit of steroid to your antibiotic. They had to do that for me because it was burning up my veins and causing phlebitis. Hospital pharmacies have "clinical pharmacologists" pHd's that get involved in unusual cases.

Good morning. Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please. Seems like I'm in a rut -- I have the same breakfast everyday.
Ricky, hope you can get out soon.
Track fiddlerWe haven't been to the Cafe Du Monde since Mardi Gras 2000.
That was a favorite place for us when we lived in New Orleans. It was the perfect place to end an evening in the Quarter after drinking quite a few adult drinks at the various bars.
When my wife and I got married, our entire wedding party and our families from out of town all went to the French Quarter after the wedding and had a great time. They all ended up in Cafe Du Monde. My parents loved the evening. Of course, my wife and I couldn't go with everyone else. We had to go to the hotel by ourselves. Our friends and relatives reminded us for years how much fun we missed that night.
I'm just about finished with putting in the new outlet in the bedroom. It turned into a longer project than I wanted. I should finish today. Repairing and painting the drywall I damaged is taking the longest.
Then I can start back to work on the layout. A grain elevator is the next construction project.
Have a good day, everyone. Snow coming Thursday! I'm bringing in more firewood.
Hi Ricky,
Small world eh!
ricktrains4824 Just the IV bag version feels like fire.
No fun! Hopefully the torture will be over by the time you read this.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Thanks Dave. About another 30-40 minutes of the "treatment" before the meds are done going in.
Hospital Backup - When the nurse who was called in arrived and started the medications torture, I commented that she looked really familiar. Didn't quite place her though.
About an hour ago she came in again for my breathing treatment, and I commented on it again, and she said I looked real familiar as well. I was just about to ask her if she ever w*^ked at a big name retailer nearby when she asked me if I did.
I immediately placed her then. I went "Yes. You were a cashier, right?" She confirmed. I went "Good grief, I knew you looked familiar. I'm Richard, Service desk." We both then started laughing.
W*^ked right alongside each other for a few years before she started nursing school about 9 years ago, and end up getting tortured for it.
And I was right, my offer of the location of the holy grail fell short. DRAT!!!!!!
Oh well, I thought it was at least worth a shot. All I got was laughed at. (And offered an ice pack, which I tried but it definitely does not help!!!!)
We all know that it's not an allergic reaction, as I've had the pill for of this antibiotic before with no issues. Just the IV bag version feels like fire.
Belated best wishes for a full recovery! I hope you get out of the torture chamber soon!
Ray - Submarine Racing huh? Almost as exciting as Fruit Fly Racing. The betting action is better on the FFR though.
Richard- Whoops! You are right... Non-steroid indeed. Must be the meds... It does indeed still cause the tachycardia a bit though. Nice catch.
Well, the nightly torture session is still going for about another 2 hours, they got crazy busy tonight and had to call in backup. So it got started a bit later.
I wonder if they will take my confessing of where the holy grail is located in exchange for stopping the torture treatment? Probably not....
Hope all have a good night, mine will be a long one.....
Okay Ray, ya got me! I clicked on the picture expecting to see something happening! Duh!!

Living the dream.
ricktrains4824. . .The breathing treatments make my pulse rise, and the Dr. really dislikes that. But, albuterol is a type of steroid. . .
Actually, Albuterol is a non-steriod bronchodilator. It can cause an increase in heart rate and nervousness as a side effect.
Good afternoon all.
Lion - Your meatball-less spaghetti still sounds better than my lunch tasted. Hospital food is hit or miss, this one was a big miss! It was grilled turkey and cheese, and I'm pretty sure that they used an old boot to flatten it with.
Nice subway shot!
Flo - Can my RBF be slipped isnide something to smuggle it into my hospital room with? Like a visiting Dr bag perhaps? Thanks.
Health - Still in the hospital, and won't be sprung for at least another 24 hours. Breathing is getting better, but stil needs to improve. The Dr here seems to think my pulse is a bit on the high side, but I'm not sure that is an issue, as I am fighting to breathe after all. That would make anyone's heart go a bit quicker than normal, imho anyway.
But my regular doc was in, he agreed that the breathing needs to be a bit better, and that would probably help the pulse rate be a little better, so I'm staying at least one more day.
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!
No Vinnie, no singing from me today, I got the message loud and clear last night!
I really liked the old South Ferry station much better, with the sharp turns, curved platforms and moving platform extensions to get rid of the large gaps resulting from curved platforms.
I'm sure the new station is safer and more efficient, but it lacks the character of the old one. I named a station on my subways "South Ferry.". It's not a model of the original by any means, just a name tribute.

You're not the only one. When the government mandated the change from the old ones, they put in safety features that simply didn't work well. You can find online tricks that may solve the blockage, but it's really a bad design.
I have ended up replacing the valve that's attached to the grill side several times. I never had to do that with the older, reliable ones.
The procedure for clearing one of these blockages, by the way, is called "burping." I did this today, and from the improvement in the flame, it looks like it worked.

Apparently the problem was in the fireplace control itself, We had removed and reconnected the tank several times, and we even tried a different tank, but no cigar (probably a good thing when you are dealing with propane ). The service tech removed the gas line from the fireplace valve. Nothing visible in the way of debris or spider bits came out, but when he reconnected the line we had gas.

gmpullmanA fascinating look. Note the terra-cotta conduit troughs. Mike, you can see the planking from the forms on the upper-right. I wonder if they used real concrete for the display? I suppose so. No expanded foam back then.
Looking at the exposed ends, it looks like a lightweight concrete. It was in use back then. Most mixes used an expanded shale for the aggregate. The shale would be fired in a kiln first, making it porous.
I'm sure for the real tunnel liner, regular concrete was used. That is quite a display! The conduit also serves as a walkway for any maintinence work.
The terra cotta had to be a real PITA to lay it in there, and pour around.
A quiet day around here today. Everybody getting back into their regular routine, like getting back work!, while I watch out the window.
Have a great day folks! I'll be in and out.
