Are you a fellow birder? There are a few of us on the forums.
I think that the wood stork is an amazingly beautiful animal, even despite the fact that its head is not exactly pretty. As I'm sure you are fully aware, the lack of head and neck feathers surves a purpose or it wouldn't have evolved like that. It is similar to a vulture's feather pattern so they must be into eating some rather yucky stuff.
Just so everybody knows how nuts I am, I think that vultures and wild turkeys have beautiful heads. If you take the time to discover all the colours and details you might understand my opinion, or not!

I remember my first shopping at Aldi´s with my mom, back in the early 1960, when they were still called Albrecht Diskont. No frozen good, no fresh stuff or any other perishables, just canned or dry goods back then. Despite the limited range of products, that business went off like an Apollo rocket. The two Albrecht brothers eventually split the business into Aldi North and Aldi South, both parts still in the hands of their offspring. Aldi has grown from a humble corner store to a worldwide empire. Here in Germany, their market share is about 50%, followed by Lidl with a share of about 25%. All other food store chains share the small balance. There are just about as many stores in the US now as there are in Germany - room for more growth.
Aldi´s product quality is mostly good, but not always. Never bad, though, just mediocre. Without Aldi or Lidl, we would not be able to survive.

Late to the model railroad party but playing catch-up.....
We get some really good steaks at Trader Joe's. In Maryland grocery stores to not sell wine nor beer so the there is no 2 buck Chuck. Safeway is the only store that consistently has good vegetables in winter. However my wife doesn't like to go there so I hear "There was no good lettuce or celery" There is never any good cucumbers anywhere this time of year.
Last week the dog jumped on my lap. Unforturnately the laptop was on my lap and keys went flying. Picked up the keys and bits that go under the keys but couldn't get the keys to snap into place.
Couldn't get them from the manufacturer, so I googled a place, told them the make and model and sent them the requested pic of the keyboard first thing in the morning. At 10 pm that night they asked for another picture. Two days later I hadn't heard back, so I contacted another seller, who returned my email in an hour. He got my business and the keys arrived today. I now have real keys again.

I've been doing the grocery shopping for decades. I do most of the cooking, always have, so stopping for dinner on the way home was the best way to get the stuff I wanted, not what the ex wife wanted.
Southern Delaware is awkward. We have nothing but boring generic supermarkets, no Wegmans or Whole Foods.
We do go to farmers markets in season, but I've really got to try hitting butcher shops and fish markets when I can.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I don't mind the shopping, since I do the week night diners, I have a menu figured out. I like it.
After all, the wife still works, doing my share is not a problem.
She takes over on the weekends, and I stay out of the way!.
We eat fresh, no store bought frozen or canned. We have our own way of doing it.
We pick / harvest all we use at my cousin's truck/vegtable farm Bring it home, cut to our liking, rinse, spread out on cookie sheets so it all freezes individually, scoop it, put in quart freezer bags.
When I want vegies, I take out the bag, pour out what I need, seal it, and put back in the freezer. No blanching, par boiling or other processing I helped my mother do as a kid.
We do all our fruit the same way.
We have two butcher shops we use for fresh meat.

I love grocery shopping. Back when I was making the daily commute to and from w**k I would frequently stop in to one of the local grocers. If I worked midnight shift I would get there at 7:30 AM and be first to pick through the produce and all the shelves were recently stocked.
On Afternoon shift I could get in before they closed at Midnight. Lots of reduced items. In either case there were very few other shoppers .
We have an Aldi here and Mrs. Pullman shops there often. Ours even has Bavarian beer in stock! There's another discount place called Marc's which resembles a Turkish Bazaar. You never know what you'll find there. Their produce, deli and bakery are excellent as well.

Aldi is where we do 99 % of grocery shopping now. The roast/stew I am eating right now the ingredients came from Aldi. I have not had an Aldi product yet that tasted bad. One good thing is their gurantee, we had some apples that had a bunch of bad ones you could not see in the middle of the bag. I took them back, they refunded my money plus the gave me a bag of apples free. Their New York strip steaks are some of the best I have had.

Health - Got the high-green from the Dr. to return to "normal activities" with no restrictions! While I still do not have the strength and stamina I normally would, and still have the lingering cough, lungs are clear!
A change in the asthma preventative meds will hopefully help prevent any further issues.

SteveO - We have had Aldi's here for quite a while. Nice for some things, not so nice for others. Somethings brand name does matter, taste wise. We also have a store called Save-a-Lot, which is very similar to Aldi's. Only major difference is they will get some brand name stuff, like Coke & Pepsi, Cheerios, etc...
I will say my favorite for meats, fruits & veggies, and other "fresh" items has to be Wegmans though. Theirs just seems to last longer than other stores in my area, but that is because they get "first dibs" in this area over other stores, so they can pick and choose what they take.
W*^k - First day back in a week, and it was slow. I didn't mind today though, as I still need to get my normal stamina back before attempting a crazy busy day.
Trains - While attempting a few small projects, I found an issue in an old Atlas yellow box Geep. The motor contact stud is literally disintegrated. Never seen that one before... The frame seems just fine though, so thought that was odd, as I know they had a issue with frames bending/bowing or coming apart on some of those models.
Made some progress on a coil car kit I have had sitting in a bookcase for a while, despite finding it missing the assembly instructions. Sometimes google (and HOSeeker) are really helpful!

The other plus about Aldi is it's a european-based company
Europe has a much more strict FDA than the US does
If you read the ingredients labels on the products from Aldi you will see how much easier the words are to read

I loved grocery shopping when I was single, I am a good cook and shopped every three days usually, and after a long exhausting day (12 to 14 hrs was common) Having good fresh healthy food to eat made it a good day. My wife is a way better cook than me and her Dad was an executive chef so I got relieved from cooking duties with the acquisition of a wife.

It's a small store, Supermarket Sweep at darn near half the price of Walmart sometimes
In and out, you just have to bring your own bags and a quarter for the cart

Can't do that today, though, because it's a good way to spend way more than you intend. Store designers know how to sucker you into those "impulse buys." Today I make a menu for the entire week, make a shopping list off the menu, and go once a week. Well, the wife goes to the regular grocery once a week. Every two or three weeks I go to Sam's Club and load up on meat, canned goods, and cat food. Everything else she gets from Aldi. When I first moved to Wisconsin I'd never seen an Aldi before. First week here, I'm sitting in an empty apartment waiting for my furniture, and I buy a Sunday paper for amusement. Enclosed therein is an Aldi flyer. I recognized it as a grocery store, but... the brands. I had no idea that everything Aldi carries is its own house brand. So I'm looking at this flyer full of Baker's Corner this and Earth Grown that and Lite & Fit the other, and I'm thinking, what is happening? Where's the Keebler and Coca-Cola and Doritos? Have I fallen into a temporal rift into an alternate world where Hitler won and Kennedy survived and Campbell's Soup is now Chef's Choice? It was very disconcerting, I tell you.

To avoid overspending in the Supermarket we use Shop Rite at home. Well worth the $10 to avoid wife's impulse shopping

Good Afternoon,
Expecting about an inch of the white stuff today. No plans on going out even though it is quite warm, -6C.
I did get the car washed yesterday. The lines were long as expected so took about an hour to get through. They do a great job of the exterior and interior so I hardly recognized my car when it was done. Almost forgot it was silver.
Brent, seems we both have Hudson issues. Mine is getting better. For some reason when I clean the drive wheels by holding it over a piece of paper towel soaked in alcohol, it runs better as in smoother, less lurching. I know the wheels are clean so I'm beginning to think that the process puts some resistance on the drive gears that is doing something. I only do this for a minute or so at a time as I don't want to overheat the motor or cause other issues. I am very careful as to how much pressure goes on the drivers. Anyway it is running great in reverse and there has been a 50% improvement going forward. Think I'll try it once more today and then I'll take the boiler off after I hear from Wayne again. I'm close to getting up the nerve and the info needed to remove it.
After doing some research I think it is time for a computer upgrade. I really didn't want to buy another as this one is running great even though it is a 9 year old laptop. The issue is Windows 7 losing support.
All this talk of different bands. I've never heard of the Ramones. I was a big Bealtes fan and then ELO. I had a couple of Beatle LPs on the Parlophone label that my mother picked up in England. They were Revolver and Rubber Soul. Parlophone put 14 songs on these records, not 12 like the Capitol versions here. Also the pressings were of a noticably higher quality, with no hiss, pops and better fidelity. Got a good price for them when I sold off my LPs. I have been listening to some Jack Scott songs on Youtube recently. He passed away last month. Unlike most rockers of his era he wrote all his own music. I saw a video of him performing in 2014 and he still sounded good.
