Good Morning all.

give me a large Dr Pepper and a waffle.

Not much going on in my neck of the woods.

Kevin: Looks like you had some fun. I have never been to a House of Blues. I would not last long in a mosh pit, I would be crushed.

Tired of the hot then cold the hot then the cold.

time to do some tune up work on the ole Saturn.  It runs better with the new EGR valve but I need to put a new Throttle position sensor on it.

Just need time... Don't we all.

Ulrich , sorry to hear the family woes. I hope you get your Denmark dream soon.

There were nasty storms near my Southern command in MS last Saturday, We hope the house is ok.

Good Morning All from the land of Buckeyes.

Not much to report but, I will say first time in months my modeling blood is pumped up. I spent almost three hours yesterday doing something I haven't done in months,I looking over e-Bay,the Walthers on line monthly flyer and checked various manufacturers web sites for new products and those I missed..

I already decided against a 4x8.. A nice long ISL would fit my needs for better since I like to switch cars.   A steam era ISL or end of the branch switching layout would be different.. I haven't fully made up my mind since I still like my Summerset Ry and Slate Creek Rail.

I am so sore this morning.

.

My middle daughter flew in from Seattle so we could go see our favorite band, Motion City Soundtrack, at the House Of Blues in Orlando.

.

We drove to the Walt Disney Resort, where HOB/ORL is located. We shopped at the Lego store and the Star Wars store.

.

.

Then we ate dinner at the House Of Blues restaurant.

.

.

We had a blast at the concert. I linked up with a new Mosh-Buddy that was about my same size, and we spent the whole concert on the dance floor bouncing off of each other. There were about 20 of us in the mayhem, and we kept it going all night. It was one of the best times I have had at a concert in a long while, at least since the CJ Ramone show in Saint Petersburg a couple of years ago.

.

.

I didn't get back home until 3:00 AM, and I am paying the price today. I am exhausted, a little bruised, and very sore. However, I feel great, like a young kid again.

.

I think I will rest today.

.

Larry, that is good news!.

I had a  pseudo sister but it didn't work out.

I worked with a woman whom I once told, was my twin sister.  We had an amazing number of things in common. It actually made me suspicious, more than once, that she would claim to like or say exactly what I would say,

I was married, she was single, and their was never any romance but we were very good friends and I thought she was the most amazing woman I ever met.

She met someone and left town years ago.  I found her on the Internet last year.  We connected and talked a couple times.  When I said I would like to see her again, she assumed the worst and assume I was seeking for a clandestine liason.

She has refused to talk to me ever since.   The sad thing is she was diagnosed with MS and in our first conversation, said I and her sister were her only friends. I hadn't talked to her in 20 years.

She claimed that her former friends dumped her, once they found out she had MS, but given the speed with which she dumped me, there is something else going on that I will never understand.

I am just a country boy but is that the style for women older than 50 in the rest of the world?  My earliest memories is going to department stores with my grandmother and women at least 15 years younger would call her 'hon' and have penciled in eye brows..

On the bright side I am going home some time after the 20th of the month. I will be staying with my daughter again and she tells me there is nice heated and dry basement ready for a 4x8' layout.. I see a large ISL and work desk..

That's great news Larry!  Yes  I've seen too many of my elder (I'm only 70 ya know Laugh) relatives and friends go to the rest home, or rehab home, and never see their real home again.

I'm excited for you!

My Ford is a 2002 Ranger XLT Supercab. 244,000 mi. The mechanicals just keep running strong, the WI winter roads, on the other hand, have started to take it's toll.

BATMAN
It was upstairs where they keep the old stuff, my truck is 20 years old after all.

When I needed a little metal clip that joins the two, rear parking brake cables on the wife's "vintage" 2005 Ford 500 (this was back when the car was only 9 years old) I called the parts department to order one.

They called back — "this is a special order part, we have to get it from a vintage Ford parts warehouse. It will be $42.00".

The clever engineers at Ford placed the clip directly over the exhaust pipe where it accelerated the rust. It literally broke in two when I put the parking brake on.

I found a set of three different clips on Amazon for $5.00 including shipping. https://tinyurl.com/uwqsvut

I have lots more Ford stories but I'll stop with that.

Good afternoon from a snowy West Coast where it is -7.

We got slammed pretty good with snow last night and tonight we expect another 30cm of snow and 90km an hour winds, the generator is ready. If the power goes out, the three gas fireplaces keep the house plenty warm and the generator can run the portable electric heaters if need be.

Got a call from Ford that my hub was in, they said to swing by, it will take 30 seconds to put in. So I unburied the truck and made my way to Ford. It was like a ghost town as everyone was staying home. The service manager comes out to change the hub and everything was so frozen he had to move the truck into the shop to thaw. The 30-second swap turned into something else. After nearly half an hour he got the old one out and new one in, paid the bill, went out, looked at the hub and it was not the right one for my truck, most people would not have noticed. Went back in and told them the news. The service manager phone ford parts and the service manager and I argued with them for ages that it was the wrong hub. All of a sudden the guy says oh wow you're right. So thinking I was going to have another long wait while they ordered the right hub in from somewhere, the guy says, the computer says you have one in stock. It was upstairs where they keep the old stuff, my truck is 20 years old after all.Laugh So they bring the truck back into the shop and can't get the proper one in until they remember that on the old trucks the wheel had to be jacked up. Then it goes in. Thank goodness the service manager is a man of long experience. So the right hub for my truck is $100.00 more than the one I paid for and they didn't charge me the difference and didn't charge me any labour either.

Larry glad to hear your gettin out. Hope it's no Shawshank Redemption scenario.Laugh

I never had any issues with family members until I got married and met my wife's side of the family, they are quite dysfunctional for the most part. My wife and her brother are the exceptions being the complete opposite of the rest of them. My sister, cousins and I are very close, something I cherish.

Well better hit post before the power goes out.

All the best to all.

From a fellow Buckeye Smile

Do you really want a 4 X 8 ? Pretty tough to reach the middle (at our age) Maybe two 4 X 4s connected by some modular 2 X 4, or even narrower, connecting sections? You probably don't want to anchor a shelf layout to your sister's basement walls.

Glad to hear you are getting "paroled"!

Good Luck, Ed

Well quite a few years ago the wife half of our friends in Minnesota decided that I would be a replacement for her brother who had just passed away and so I am known as Bro, and she Sis. When people ask me about my sister I always ask if they mean my real one or biological. She does treat me like a younger brother and I am expected to do as big sister says. So you can choose a relative. We are very close.

Good Afternoon,

A frosty day here but it is sunny.

I too can relate with relatives. I only have one sister and we do talk but I have real issues with her oldest son who can do no wrong in her eyes. He doesn't work, It's 'too stressful' and lives in a dumpy little house that my sister is paying for. Anyway he stole money from my mother, couldn't be bothered to go to her funeral, and still my sister defends him. Can you detect a little anger.

Well our basement fridge finally gave up the ghost. It is only 70 years old. I'll have to wait until spring to get it out of the furnace room as it is rather heavy. The compressor has been glunking for the past couple of years so I suppose it finally wore out.

I have to take my wife out for an appointment later today so I better start making myself presentable.

This feuding goes back to high school, and they're retirement age now.

Just the same with my brother. He is the older one by three years, but took a year longer to complete his school education and 4 years longer to get his degree. He was still a student when I was earning good money already. He never made it to a family of his own, as I did. But he was my Mom´s darling son.

Early in our lives, we come to a crossroad where we have to decide whether to lead a happy life or a miserable one. The happy life is a difficult and arduous one, for happiness does not come on a free ticket. My brother opted for the easy way, making him the miserable sod he is. Yes, I am mad at him, but actually I pity him.

Enough of that - this is were my dreams lead me to:

It has an annex with a roof top patio that comes with a view:

A 10 minute walk to the beach... I think I will get me  a puppy dog to walk!

Happy times!

That is terrible. I have three daughters, and I could not imagine them not on good terms with each other.

This feuding goes back to high school, and they're retirement age now.  The sister is under water on one property, heavily in debt on a second and now wants to take on a high-fee vacation property that barely makes a profit now and needs significant repairs and upgrades. The GF wants no part of being entangled in her finances.

On the bright side, my replacement passport arrived yesterday so I am good to go for my cruise next month.

The GF is still wrangling out the details of her Dad's estate, and hopes to completely disconnect from her own "evil sister" as soon as that's settled.

I got great medical lab results from the doctor yesterday.  Blood pressure was pretty normal, cholesterol was low and my A1C was 6.2.  Oddly, I've lost a hundred pounds in the last 6 weeks, according to their records.  Oh, well.  They had my email address wrong, too.

My sister took my ex's side in my divorce, and I haven't spoken to her since, at her suggestion.  I will likely never see her again.  The GF is still wrangling out the details of her Dad's estate, and hopes to completely disconnect from her own "evil sister" as soon as that's settled.

Good Afternoon!

I am still aghast at what my brother did to me. Last night, I could not find any sleep and now I feel wasted. I just hope that our dream of moving to Denmark will come true soon and I can leave all of that behind. Remember the film "The Bucket List"? There are still a few things I´d like to do before I "kick the bucket".

Good morning, everybody . ...... Coffee and a donut, please.

Larry ..... It is good to hear from the Land of the Buckeyes with your good news ! That is very nice of your daughter ! The United 2-8-0 is a very nice engine, and I bet it will like being operated at its new home.

Ulrich ... I'm saddened to read your family situation. I'm at a loss for words. I know you are welcome here, and we Diners accept you as part of our model railroad family.

...

I had doctors appointments in Nashville at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. My caridologist was very pleased with me for losing 17 pounds since I saw him 6 months ago. ..... Next, I went to Vanderbilt Eye Insitute because I am having vision problems. I have cateracts and I have retina problems. I will be having eye surgery in the next few weeks.

Everybody ..... Have a good day !

On the bright side I am going home some time after the 20th of the month. I will be staying with my daughter again and she tells me there is nice heated and dry basement ready for a 4x8' layout.. I see a large ISL and work desk..

I leaning toward a steam era layout so I can use the United Santa Fe 2-8-0.  Maybe a end of branch layout with a station and team track, a fruit distributor,a alcohol and tobacco distributor and two or three industries. I will need to think on adding another type of distributor or industry. I won't use the popular oil distributor that is seen on most layouts. OTOH a normal ISL will work just as easy but,I dunno  a change up might be nice  since its been years since I built a end of a branch switching layout.

I will use my MRC ControlMaster II instead of DCC since that 2-8-0 still has its DC 70 motor.

It will be nice to return to the hobby full time.

My middle daughter arrived from Seattle last night. I am so happy to see her. She is the happiest person on the face of the Earth. Tonight we are driving to Disney Springs in Orlando to see Motion City Sountrack live at the House of Blues. This was the last band we saw together before she moved to Seattle, so this is kind of a cute thing for us to do.

.

I am so sick of this Summer weather pattern we have had every time I am home this Winter. It has been HOT, humid, and rainy almost every day.

.

We are supposed to get some relief next week, but guess what? I will be back in Atlanta and miss it.

Ugh.....

I may be back off of w*^k, as I once again have a fever (low-grade - 100.7F) and my pulse went back up to 110-120.

But I also changed asthma preventative to a inhaled corticosteroid, so..... That could explain the high pulse, and that would explain the low grade fever. (Both are common side-effects, as are sore throat and runny/stuffy nose, so....)

o2 stats are 96-98%, all day, so that is right about as good as I can get with the asthma plus getting over pneumonia, so that at least is still good.

I am REALLY not a happy camper right now though....

my mom´s funeral was today. Although I had asked him to provide me with the date, so I could attend the service and say good bye to her, he deemed it unnecessary to fulfill my wish.

Urich you do not have a monopoly on rotten family! My Dad died on Dec 15th 2018. When I called Christmas Eve my Mom told me he was gone and buried? Called her a few days later and well have never spoken to her again. I did not have a great faimly life with my parents.

Dirk and I walked another quarter mile tonight. Looking forward to walking him a mile in the future. Him and I need to the exercise. If my feet keep holding I will get there.

Ulrich:  I'm sorry to hear that your own family is treating you this way.  You should be allowed to pay your respects, but then what do I know.

Kevin:  That's real nice work on the dining car.

I'm trying to learn about modes in music.  Perhaps Ray and Ride on Road might be interested in this. Probably no one else.  I kind of know what they are, but I've yet to fully understand them.  For instance, Beethoven used the Lydian mode in his 5th symphony.  Debussy used it along with the whole tone scale in Afternoon of a Faun, and John Williams used it in the ET soundtrack.  Incidentally, Afternoon of a Faun and ET are very similar in certain places.  But, I've much more to understand about them.  Well, I won't bore everyone any more with this.

Less is more,...more or less!

Ulrich, I had a passing of relatives situation, too, but it's harder to criticize anyone.  My uncle was involved in a car accident because he had a major stroke while driving.  A few days later, I called my Mom, his sister, to ask how he was doing.  She told me he had died and was buried that day.  But, her other brother had just passed away, and hadn't been buried yet.  I went to that funeral.

My mother had just lost not one brother, but two, and was suddenly the last of her family in that generation.

Good Evening,

Ulrich, so sorry to hear about the terrible treatment by your brother.

Ken, I replaced a chuff sensor myself on a BLI loco. It really wasn't hard and they gave me detailed instructions. Sending one back from north of the border for service is expensive and time consuming so it was easier just to do it myself.

Ed, I finally got up the courage to take the boiler off my brass loco. It wasn't hard but the screws at the back of the cab sure are small. I found that the screw that holds the brass plate ( to which the motor is attaced) was missing and combined with a warped plastic tube coupler caused the whole mechanism to rock about. I don't have suitable screw and will try to find one. Not sure how to hold it down otherwise. Also the plastic tube at the gearbox end is slipping on the shaft. I think I can cut it a little shorter otherwise I will have to find some new tubing somewhere.

Time for a tea and tellie,

CN Charlie

Zoe - A Coke float please. Thanks.

Ulrich - So sorry you're family situation is so rough. That type of treatment hurts, but hurts the one doing it more in the form of no longer being liked or trusted by others around them.

I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that you are a much better, nicer, and liked person.

No words to describe that type of treatment from anyone, other than that it stinks.
So sorry that you you had to deal with that.

Ed - Fantastic job!
My aunt from North Ridgeville is always praising Marc's, so I was familiar with that store even though there are none near me.

Mr. B - I think you had mentioned Market Basket stores, we used to have one here, but the stiff competition from 2 other grocery stores, plus Wallyworld being in the same small town pushed them out. You are right, their meat was good. Some of the best grilling steaks we're going there.

Ken - I would have thought that BLI would have moved away from the reed switches for chuff sensors by now, given how many issues they have caused.

If your hands are steady enough, it's easy enough to solder in a new one, sourced from electronics supply stores. I have found they tend to last a bit longer, but it is still eventually an issue.
BLI really dropped the ball with that design. They tried to fix a problem that didn't exist, and ended up creating one.

Health - Still have the cough, but breathing is still good. 97% o2 stats last I checked it.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the evening!

MSNBC has the Dakar Rally, a race through the Saudi desert, by motorcycles, 4 wheelers, trucks that look like a cross between an oil truck and a Coke delivery truck and side by sides, a 2 man dune buggy affair.  The scenery is spectacular, wrecks and mechanical breakdowns are common.  One motorcyclist has died.  Another finished the stage riding on a bare rear rim.
