Ah, yes, City Classics market.  I used the A&P decals for mine.  We used to have lots of them when I was growing up.  Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company.  I have a truck of theirs, too.  It's just a small truck, but it helps set the scene.

With my diabetes, potatoes are a no-no for me.  I can't eat baked beans either, or corn, or much bread.  No dessert, but I can eat steak!

Another beautiful morning here, but it's going to be hot and humid today.

After I plant some grass seed in the backyard, I swear that today, I'm going to finish the layout's gas station.  I have been trying to finish for weeks, and I keep putting it off.

If anyone hears when the UP Big Boy will leave Wyoming and head for Omaha, let me know.  I live about a half-hour from the UP mainline, and I would love to see it come through.  I checked the steam schedule, and it only says that it will be in Omaha in July.

Have a good day, everyone.

p.s.  Does anyone else have trouble with the page numbers on this forum?  I have been having trouble getting to the last posts at the diner.  When I click the last page number, it goes to an older page.

Lion, have you been sampling the latest wine batch again?  I only see one moon when I look up

I remember Lion telling us that he orders cases of wine for the monastery.  That's got to be it.

But I still prefer the pounding bass and banshee wail of the Packard-Merlin V-1650 in the P-51.

Hi Adam,

The sound is unmistakable. I have heard it for real (live) only a few times in my life and each time it sent shivers up my spine!

Great video.

Thanks,

Dave

Flo, give the gang a Beer and I will take a Keg with a straw and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Have a world of trouble on my mine. It may be just the time and give up and rent a house.

Ed I know why the B&O President Adams was limping! It broke a traction tire! Far as the PRR I1sa lack of traction? I took your advice and I am running a track cleaning car on the track.( I1sa smoke unit started working and after 3 trips around the layout it started have traction problems) I have cut the I1sa down to 3 Heavy Weight Pullman cars and using the CB&Q's F7's to pull the tracking cleaning car.

 Does BLI sell traction tires?

 Later still none smoking Ken

Good Afternoon,

It is a hot one here today. Right now it is 95F which is really hot for us this time of year. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 66F and showers. We have thousands of elm seeds descending on us so I was up on the roof this morning cleaning the troughs. Right beside our house we have an elm tree that is about 150 years old according to an arborist. It really generates a lot of seeds that are small flat things for those unfamiliar with elm trees.

Brent, that is a lovely looking loco even if it is CP.

Garry, good luck with the surgery. Sounds like it will be a fairly quick procedure.

I too like the sound of piston aircraft engines. There is a flying Lancaster in Canada that has 4 RR Merlins. Quite a sound when it goes over low. It was visiting Winnipeg from its base in Hamilton a couple of years ago. A couple of the old water bombers they use here have radial engines and the sound of them on full power when lifting off a lake is really amazing. They are based in Gimli where I used to have my sailboat and did practice runs in the lake there.

Well time for a cool drink.

Good morning, everyone.  It's about 70° with high humidity this morning.  The creek is down and the trail is open so it was a nice walk this morning.  The birds were very loud this morning.

I have to go out in a little bit to cut grass again -- for the third time this week.  With all the rain and temperatures in the 90s, the grass grows like crazy.

Garry, I know that everything like model railroads, cutting grass, and small talk all fall by the wayside when one faces health issues.  I'll pray that everything goes well in your surgery and recovery.  It's tough to face, but hopefully by this time next week, you'll be well on the road to recovery.

Morning, everyone.  Just gonna grab my usual coffee and.... are those chocolate donuts....?   I'll take two 'a 'dem, Zoe.

Adam,

That sound was caused by air passing through the oil cooler, the F4-U had the same sound. The P-38 Lightning had turbo-chargers for the engines for high altitude performance, and in a power dive, with the turbochargers cut in, made an ungodly wail. The week following V-J Day, Dad took us to the flightline where there were 12 P-38s. When they came back across the field full bore, it was a sound never to be forgotten.

herrinchoker

Thanks for that.  I actually thought the whine was either a doppler artifact as the plane approached, or that it had something to do with airflow through the prop as it dove.  I never thought of the ramscoop.  I knew about the Corsair's (that's why the Japanese called it "Whistling Death"), but I never made the connection before.

Henry -  I got to hear/see Glacier Girl, the P-38 they dug out of the ice in Greenland a while back.  Sweet sounding lady, and a phenomenal aircraft overall.  Gotta say, the F-35 Lightning II has a long way to go to live up to her heritage.

Brent - That is a sweet loco.  I'm a little jealous.  Big Smile

Morning all!  Well, I survived a rather intense audit at work this week to an ultimately very good outcome.  Glad that's over!

Flo, I could really use a LARGE coffee and some blueberry french toast casserole.

Ed Thank you for letting me bend your ear tonight!

No worries, Ken. Always nice to chat. I hope you get good footing back under that Hippo. I forgot to ask, did you find all the calendar photos I stuffed in the box? There were some at the bottom of the box, too.

Still rather chilly around here but presumably warmer days are just ahead.

My best to all —

Regards, Ed

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

I slauted all that where there on D-Day and those that will never come home. Crying Today on the news I saw footage of 3 Paratroopers that where in there 90's that made the drop on D-Day make a jump today on to Normandy Beach. Airborn All The Way!

Funny that was on the news today. Few days ago I started thinking about my last jump at age 63. Sport jumping cost around $200.00 per jump. With never making a sport jump, it would be tandem jump I guess?

Ed Thank you for letting me bend your ear tonight!

Later, 18th Airborn None Smoking Ken again.
