I just reviewed my proposed track plan, and it only has 40 turnouts on the visible portion. I could have sworn the number was 50.

TF, hope you get your phone fixed quick!

Well I've had a hell of a day dealing with a certifiable psychopath, some people just cant be satisfied, they always get mad when you try to help them fix their problem.

Raccoon Front Seems it will die from Diabets before I catch it! Yep it ate all of the Marshmallow's with out setting the trap off!

We use peanut butter sandwiches. I've seen some trappers use canned cat food, kind of messy, though. We get good results with peanut butter & jelly sandwiches on stale bread, yum! I had two raccoons trying to empty the bird feeders last night. Tonight they get PB&J Pirate

Termites

As a young boy I grew up in Brownsville Texas. Many of the homes were built on posts, wood, cement, the posts were placed in containers that had sides about 4-5 inches high. They were filled with creosote. About once a year the home owner, or somone contracted to do the job, would go under the house and re-fill the containers.

Houses were also bagged, (entire house) all the doors and windows were opened, and a DDT generator was used to inflate the bag----no mice, roaches, termites, spiders or scorpions.

In 47 there was an outbreak of Polio, thought to possibly be caused by mosquitoes- The city acquired some surplus army trucks with DDT generators on the back, and in the evening would go up one street, and down another, blowing vaporized DDT above the tree tops throughout the entire city.

Never did have any problems with fleas on the family dog, either.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, give that gang and I Beer please and leave a stein outside for Ulich.

Raccoon Front Seems it will die from Diabets before I catch it! Laugh Yep it ate all of the Marshmallow's with out setting the trap off! After watching a few U-Tube videos I learned a few things.

1 There a few driffrent sensitivity levels I can set the spring plate to. I set mine at the highest and yes it worked but I have it set for a lower pressure now.

2 Stick the marshmallow's thought the bottom of the trap after the trip plate. That way it will have to work at it a little harder.

After the racket it caused last night I don't feel bad about what I am going to do to it!

Insect problem. I did not go into the attic today with what sounded like a mad raccoon up there. While I am not afraid of it, I am not stupid either! Only reason I am trying self treatment is to slow what ever is up there till I get a Professional Exterinator

Train Front rediscovred my Bachmann Sound Vaule F7's Santa Fe's. The Mighty CB&Q F7's need some mainteance's and Dueling Thundering Tennis Balls does not work well. I am still enamored with the PRR I1sa engine so I broke out the Sound Vaule F7's Santa Fe's. For $120.00 for the pair new, it was a good deal!

 None smoking Ken posting again!

I gave her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. I told her how much I appreciated her and she gave me a smooch back and went back to the wheel and kept continuing what she was doing.

.

My wife and I could not agree where to eat dinner tonight, so I left, went to Pizza Hut, and brought her back one of her favorites to the hotel.

.

She knows I do not like Pizza Hut, so she gave me a hug and a kiss too.

SPSOT - Any jet lag yet?

Not a thing! This trip we took some medium sized, 8 hours flights instead of one long 14 hour flight, really made it much less tiring! Also we left at 10pm and arrived around 5 pm, making myself a little less messed up I guess! Already been in the US for almost a week!

.

I have never traveled fast enough between time zones to get effected by jet lag.

I tend to be more of a north/south traveler rather than east/west.

Good Morning,

We were up early today as we had to take Robbie to the vet for a blood draw after fasting. We are just checking his liver enzymes to make sure they are still coming down.

Ken, carpenter ants will leave a small sawdust pile. We had them in our house a couple of years ago and it took an exterminator 6 tries to get rid of them. Nasty brutes. They will grab a kleenex with their pincers and are hard to pull off. We did see them on the floor sometimes at night. They go out looking for food and water.

Yesterday we intended to to some planting but got a call from 'birding' friends to go look for an indigo bunting and lazuli bunting in a park at the north end of the city. Score! we saw both. We had never seen either before. While on the edge of an indigo range we are well east of a lazuli range.

Today we have to get at the planting as we have a lot of flowers sitting in containers to get into pots or the ground. I also need to mow the grass.

Time to get at it.

Top of page. A full English breakfast for all you hungry fellows.

Good morning, everyone.  Bacon and Eggs for breakfast.

I should get my NCE USB connection in the mail today.  I'm going to try to learn JMRI to get a handle on all the CVs.  I've learned a lot in a year of building a layout.  I guess this is next.  Sometime this year I would like to start learning how to work with Arduino to control some lights and signals.  Or, maybe not.

Garry, thinking and praying for you this morning for your surgery.

Ken, I hate to hear of your battle with what we call termites.  I lived in New Orleans for 20 years, and it was a constant battle there.  The houses were all on raised pilings or on concrete slabs, and as Kevin said, that didn't stop them.

T Fiddler, I'd rather be with you at the lake today than trying to work in the mud in my backyard.  My daughter got married at a lake in northern Minnesota,  beautiful except for the mosquitos the size of condors.

Lion, you are inspiring me to start looking at doing more photography.  Not the expensive camera route, but the manipulating images route.  It's something I've always wanted to learn, but never had the time.  Now having the time, I need to push myself to do some of the things I put off.

We are delaying our Utah trip plans for a while -- both my wife and I have some minor health things to deal with.  Hopefully in several months we will be back to planning the drive.

Everyone have a good Monday.

Termites must have access to the ground, over concrete they will build tunnels to access your wood floors groum the ground. You will be able to see these tunnels.

.

In Florida everything is built on concrete slabs, and most houses are made of concrete block. Termites will still find a way to the wood interior studs. Any crack in the slab is a way in.

.

You never know they are there until the get to the roof.

Pretty sure I have Termites or other wood eating insect in the attic.

If you have termites in the attic, then you are in VERY BIG TROUBLE.

Termites must have access to the ground, over concrete they will build tunnels to access your wood floors groum the ground. You will be able to see these tunnels.

This is a major project for an exterminator, to locate all of their entry points and to discover all the damage that they have caused enroute to the attic.

And in Pennsylvaina at least, you cannot hide this from a prospective buyer. If you know about a diffency you must report it at the time of sale.

Beautiful morning here in Daytona Beach since the clouds cleared overnight.

.

I have a meeting at 9:00, so I need to go. However, I am hoping ror an easy week so I can enjoy an evening or two with my wife. Hopefully the weather will be better than yesterday.

.

I have a couple of train cars with me to finish in the hotel room if time allows.

.

We saw this little guy in the hedges in front of the hotel this morning while we were watching the sunrise. Turns out he is a carnivore. He was eating "Anoles" out of the bushes, and was concentrating so hard on getting his meal that he let me get pretty close.

Good morning everyone,

Been meaning to post for quite a while just haven't gotten to it I have some time due to some sleep troubles so here goes.

Various updates in no particular order of importance or time.

So I got approved for my first credit card, gonna use it for 20 bucks in gas once a month to build credit.

Still at the Y, no second job but I'm picking up more hours at the Y all the time.

Speaking of the Y, it's nice to work at a place where 90% of the lifeguards are females, more importantly 17-20 year old females, but more on that in a moment.

So three weeks ago, one of the ladies that works at the front desk made a comment about my relationship status and attempted to "introduce" me and a camp counselor who has a boyfriend, the girl proceeds to talk to me for a little while, then she goes back to work and I think nothing of it, a week ago she comes to the desk and accuses me of flirting with her and threatening to beat up her boyfriend...   Yeah really, she turns around after I tell her no that was not the case, I was just polite and professional, she turns around and starts telling other camp counselors! So I went to my boss she had the camp director talk to her and yet this bat**** crazy girl is still trying to talk to me, frankly shes not my type, rather homely, nothing wrong with that, just not a girl worth pursuing.

But wait theres more! (More girl drama that is)

So last week I got the inside information on some of the personnel, specifically some of the female personnel, so the head lifeguard is a rather cute 20 yo brunette who is really nice well turns out she has had crushes on every guy that's worked there, and actually went out with a guy till he broke it off due to her trying to blackmail him, she also will flirt with guys then when they/we show any interest in return she flips and cries wolf. Well this guy that informed me of all this has known her since highschool and basically he's noticed that she might have her sights on me now, and in light of this information certain happenings and behaviors weren't just being nice or not know personal space but perhaps something else, now this I can handle, I'll just be nice but let her know back off if she tries anything.

But wait there is still more!

I told my friend Sarah about the crazy camp counselor and the lifeguards crush on me (didnt mention the history there) she wanted to know if they were cute, and if I was going to ask the lifeguard out, literally demanded to know, I was just "maybe I dont know yet".

On top of all this another lifeguard might, might I say, this is totally unconfirmed just observations of behaviours, have a thing for me, might, not making any assumptions at this point, luckily shes not crazy and is pretty cute too!

Now that that entire debacle is over heres some other updates.

Next payday I'm giving my friend a down payment on a DCC and Paint job on a pair of 80MACs, NWP-SWP green on green! Just trying to decide what locomotive numbers to do, I've considered going my model numbers so 80s would be 80xx series, 40s = 40xx, 45s=45xx, problem with that numbering scheme is GPs vs SDs, alternatively I could do hrspwrs, so 80s =50xx, 40s=30xx still kinda the same problem, I could do power per axle, GP40s= 75xx, SD40s=50xx, SD80s = 83xx, still kinda a wonky system, so I thought perhaps do five digits, first digit denotes number of axles then next two either HP or Model #, so an SD80MAC would be either a 650xx or 680xx, a GP40 would be 430xx or 440xx and so on and so on, I know the popular method is just 4 digits so I might just go that way I dont really know.

Let's see did I leave anything out? I think I went over everything. Night guys! (Gotta get that extra hour and a half of sleep)

Steve

Good evening all.

Zoe - A RBF please. Thanks.

Garry - Well wishes on the surgery in the morning.

Ken - Keep up the good work on the non-smoking front. Termites are somewhat rare (although not unheard of) in the Great Lakes region, but carpenter ants, bees, and some beetles are more common. However, if they came in on something else that got transported in.... Anything is possible.

Lion - Nice pic of the trumpet flower. Are wildebees mini versions of wildebeesties? Or just more proper term?

SPSOT - Any jet lag yet?

Steven NWP - You still around? Just busy with the new job?

Bird watchers - Saw a Brown Thrasher today, don't recall ever seeing one before.

Weather - Warm and sunny today, but rain expected for tomorrow.

W*^k - Still going good.

Caught the Canadian Grand-Prix (Grande-Prix?) today on tv, and was very disappointed in the officiating taking away the battle for the win. Sorry F1, that's why I normally don't watch you. I get that you have rules, but you need to let theses boys race! They are "supposed" to be the best in the entire world, so let them battle it out for the win to prove it! Not only should Vettel protest, so should all who bought tickets!

Too bad NASCAR was rained out... Double let down today.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the rest of the night!

We have no termites in the northern hemisphere.  That's a southern thing.

We have carpenter ants up here, which is even a worse thing.  Carpenter ants make termites look like a toy and they're very hungry, fast and aggressive.

If you have a start of rot anywhere on your dwelling, they WILL move in.

Yikes

Ken if you didn't have bad luck, you wouldn't have any.

Congrats on the smoking though.

We heard a crunch crunch crunch at a previous house.  Eventually a wood boring beetle emerged from the oak floor.  That board was replaced and the beetle was inside the board and must have survived kiln drying and emerged years later.

Termites can do a huge amount of destruction.  A neighbor tried to treat them himself and the guy who bought his house had to replace the entire front door frame and surrounding 2x4's
