I caught two in the same trap a few times Dinner

Cheers, Ed

It seems things happen in groups of three.  I don't know why that is, it just is.

So I'm sitting on my walk out that's on ground level after a long day of work.  I was just relaxing and reading what you guys had to say today.  I look up to reach for my happy hour beverage.  It kind of gave me a jolt when I saw the raccoon about three feet away from me, looking at me like he thought I was supposed to feed him.  I hissed and said get and he ran off.

It's the people on the second floor of the complex that throw bread and whatever else down feeding the critters and I really wish they would stop.

We had a crazy rabid squirrel last year.  This thing was crazed, we would go into the house when he was out.  He would come up to you like he wasn't afraid of anyting and paw at the sliding glass door.  I got really sick and tired of him.  My pellet gun found him one night.

Ed.....  You had the fork and the knife guy displayed right after the picture of the raccoon in the Trap.  Can you eat those things or were you just being funny?  I think you were just being funnyConfused  Something like that would be like Granny's roadkill stewLaugh

The new water heater is being installed right now. Had to put in an electric as the chimney venting wouldn't pass current code so I would have had to put in a new chimney for a gas heater. Luckily we had a 220 line right there that was used for an electric baseboard heater that we disconnected when we installed the gas fireplace. We will also be set up for the replacement of the furnace to a high efficiency, the only type that now meets code here.

Charlie,

When I moved back to Nebraska, the house we bought was all electric.  I was not thrilled, because I thought we needed a gas water heater and a gas furnace.

I have been pleasantly surprised.  The electric water heater gives us as much hot water as we want, even when all the kids and grandkids visit for Christmas.

Good Afternoon,

A beautiful warm, sunny day here.

Ray, good luck with the lunch date.

Afternoon folks!

GMTRacing
Anyone heard from Ray lately? Has he gone quiet or did I miss his posts?

Oh, I've been sleeping in the back booth for the last couple days.  Been burning the candle at both ends so to speak.  Working on getting too many other things done around here.  Been busy cleaning out and filling the trash bin with junk I should have disposed of years ago.  I did manage to find some left over Oak trim and boards from some earlier remodeling that I hope the guy doing the current project will be able to use to complete the job.  He didn't show up yesterday and hasn't gotten here yet today.  He has a bunch of other jobs he is juggling at the moment, so I guess he'll be back when he gets here...

If I was to get in a wrestling match with the lady I am now talking too, I would be defeated in seconds I think...  She is a retired Physical Education teacher who IS in shape!!!  LOL  I am going out to lunch with her next Monday.  Wish me well, my friends!  She appears to like me!

Good morning.  Beautiful morning in flyover country.

Flyover country -- when I was a kid, everyday at a little after 5:00 p.m., you could watch the contrails of the SAC bombers as they flew west from Omaha (Bellevue), with, we were told, nuclear weapons on board.  They don't do that anymore.

Speaking of SAC, if you are ever driving through Nebraska, it's worth the stop at Ashland, outside of Omaha, to see the Strategic Air Command museum.  It just a mile off I-80.

We have to travel a little today to say goodbye to a friend who is trading Nebraska winters for Phoenix winters.  She also is trading Nebraska summers for Phoenix summers.   Another place to stay when we travel!

Garry, I'm impressed with your city scenes.  I didn't even notice no wires, but I know how, when it is yours, things like that stand out.  When someone sees my N Scale layout, they see a railroad.  I see mistakes and things I haven't done.

Ken and Ed, I second Ed's comment.  I know that in Nebraska, it is illegal to move a captured raccoon.  You can kill it, but you can't move it more than 100 yards.

Does the diner serve beer?

Rob .... I have been operating my streetcars without overhead wires. I'll be the first to tell you it does not look right. I have the poles and wires for installing the overhad. However, I hestitate because it would get in my way when cleaning the rails.

Lion,

That's why I aske. If you watch the video, the center rail has breaks in it and a bond bar or heavy cable between the breaks in the rail. I would have thought a guard rail would be more or less continuous.... Also by the time the wheel hits the single center rail, the car would be half off the platform. With the line elevated or on bridges, I thought a separate ground path would be prudent.    J.R.

Nope it is a guard rail. The train rides on two rails, and gets its power from the third rqil. One of the running rails (your choice... they swap sever times enroute) is used by the signal system, It has a single light weight bond between the rail sections. The other rail is the ground return and has heavy dual bonds between the rail sections.

The ground current returns from whichever side can accept it, ie the side with the heavy bonds.

The signal rails use a much lower voltage which can co-exhist with any other currents on the lime.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just landed in back the US yesterday evening after 20+ hours on airplanes and in airports! Slept a full 10 hours for the first time in two days, and I have yet to feel serious jet lag... yet...

Shortly I'm going to go pull some of my HO scale equipment out of storage that's been their for a year. Excited to take a look at that stuff! In the next few days I will have to take a trip to my LHS and pick up some train supplies for the summer (and the next year).

Have a good morning (or afternoon or evening or night) folks!

Regards, Isaac

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please Zoe. Still cleaning the hobby area. I have made good progress but I also need to sort and store stuff at the same time or I just move piles from one end to the other.

Busy day today - already got a bunch of Magnaflux testing done and now need to finish preps and load so we can leave for Hershey tomorrow.

Anyone heard from Ray lately? Has he gone quiet or did I miss his posts?

Larry, I hope you guys get a layout at your place, do you still have your stuff?

Yes,I still have my SCL,SCR,HR,Summerset Ry along with my Ohio Central GP7 two CR GP38-2s and two NS GP38s.. These engines are Atlas and P2K except the Huron River SW7 which is a BB. I have one United Santa Fe 2-8-0 that will be used from time to time. The 1953/54 steam idea faded into the sunset. I just couldn't give up my Summerset Ry and Slate Creek Rail.

The activity director will take the idea of a train layout to her boss at the next business meeting.

I'm currently adding KDs to the last two Atlas boxcars (CPAA and CR) I bought off e-Bay.

I caught two in the same trap a few times Dinner

I've had a few that would stick a paw out and roll the trap so I usually put a heavy brick on top or stick a steel rod through the mesh to anchor it. One trap I have the door will slide open if it is turned upside-downDunce

What 'ya gonna do once you catch one, Ken? I don't know about Illinois but in Ohio it is illegal to release them in a different area.

My Broadway K4 came back today, finally, after the Post Office gave it a nice tour of the Midwest Indifferent

I ran all the smoke fluid out of it, then shut the darned thing off. The smokebox sure was hot! That smell is nasty to me, and I worked in basically a chemical factory. Non of that ever bothered me but the smell of that smoke fluid is awful Ick!

Got the paint job finished on this little guy Yes

If the IMS helps with the pain you need to behave yourself after the treatment. No wrestling with the wife.

I don't wrestle with my wife any more. I'd lose!

I have stopped the IMS treatments. The last time I had it my left hip, which is where the treatment was supposed to be giving me relief, cramped up so painfully that I had to tell the physiotherapist to stop. She agreed that the IMS wasn't working despite the relief that the first treatment had given me. I'm rather disappointed that it hasn't worked.

Oh well, chin up! Life is full of crap. I try not to roll in it!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I godda tell you.  There was a little time leftover on my weekend Trek.

Judy and I were tired.  We were laying around and napping in the hotel room and watching American Pickers.  This extremely strange apparatus with four legs sticking out of it with mirrors came up.

They bought it.  Frank said this thing looks like it fell off a UFO in Area 51, how could we not buy it?

I asked Judy,  do you think that thing really fell off a UFO?

Judy said NO!   UFO guys don't have mirrors.   I laughed my ass off.

Frank Zappa was a little late on this one.

UFO guys don't have mirrors

I have to say I was very intrigued by your reference to your trip to Africa.

My Grandfather,   My favorite person in the whole world took three trips to fulfill his dream.

Africa,  Hawaii,  Alaska.

I hope to at least go to one or two someday but someday never seems to come.

I really wish you would elaborate on your trip to Africa here.  I would be interested in what you have to say about your experiences of your trip as I'm sure many others here would be interested as well.

Please share your trip to Africa.

Thank you    John

Evening all, it is 1809hrs on the beautiful West Coast. We are nine minutes past the time I should have had a Rum and pepsi in my hand.

Now where's that Rum.

All the best to all.

Very ironic.  Not too often I switch her up and drink Rum, but tonight that's what I've been doing.  I have the gray bat,  I learned from the 151 black bat in my teens.  I don't do that one anymoreLaugh

I'm very curious about this Royal Hudson stuff Brent.  Post your freshly unwraped Goody when you get it.

The final container of Royal Hudsons arrived at Rapido. It was an agonizing five weeks watching them make their way across the world. I feel sorry for the guy in Australia that has to watch his make its way to the Southern hemisphere.

418 cartons in a 20' container.

Hope to have mine by June 20th.

Sorry to hear about your back issues Dave. The first step to a fix is finding out what's wrong. If the IMS helps with the pain you need to behave yourself after the treatment. No wrestling with the wife.WhistlingLaugh

Charlie, those Northerns are monsters. I have been keeping my eyes open for a brass one but they are terrible runners from all I have heard. I don't have the expertise to tinker them to a successful conclusion. One would still look great in the yard though.

TF, hittin the road on the sperm of the moment (as Archie Bunker use to say) is what I am famous for I would just go get on a plane and go somewhere. Had my own parking spot right at the terminal at Vancouver International airport, always had my passport with me and if I hit a wall with burnout I could just tell the boss I was taking a month off and at the end of the day I would get on a plane. I always had a go bag in the car. Usually I would go somewhere warm and would just buy a toothbrush, a couple of pairs of shorts and teeshirts and all was good.

I worked copious amounts of overtime and banked all my OT as time off. Every week at work I earned at least a week off in OT. Of course I didn't take that much time off and at the end of the year they would pay me out another years wages as I couldn't carry it over. The last ten years I was working I got 8 weeks vacation as well. When I packed it in I had 17 weeks of that in the bank they paid me out for.

Ken, the video was funny I guess there really is such a thing as a flying squirrel.Laugh

Charlie, my F-350 7.3 ltr diesel takes 14 litres of oil. I am past wanting to do my own work on the vehicles.

Enjoying the pics all are posting, next round is on me. Had lobster sushi last night, boy was it good.

Now where's that Rum.

All the best to all.

Good Evening,

Brent, nice photo of that CP Northern. I'm sure you know but that is one of 2 Northerns owned by CP. One of them is on display in Regina. J.R. is right in that it is a big loco,  built on the same boiler as the Selkirks. Apparently CP didn't like them much.  CN on the other hand had more Northerns than any other road in North America.

TF, good suggestion about getting an independent mechanic. That is what I used when I had a 'domestic' but Volvos have a lot of computers and you need special software to access. I read somewhere that it is either very expensive or not for sale so off to the dealer you go. I have had great service from them so I can't complain too much about the cost.

Had a nice visit with Carol's uncle and we are now just relaxing in the back yard. Well I will be just as soon as I sign off. So without further ado,

Sorry about your back Dave.

Back pain is the worst there is.  I can definitely sympathize for you.  Anytime my back has been out, nothing else quite works either.  It all works together.

I wish I could wish you out of your pain brother.

You have been added to my list for every night I talk to the man upstairs before I go to sleep.

Last week I had my dentist remove a third cracked molar.  Apparently I grind my teeth hard at night and need to be fitted for a night guard.  They cost about 600 bucks but it's cheaper than the near 2,000 I paid up till now to get three teeth extracted.  I have no insurance.  I am ruining my own teeth while I sleep at night.

Isn't that lovely, the joys of getting oldSadTongue Tied

I will continue to pray for RR Mel too.  He has some serious back pain as well.  I feel for you guys,  I only hope things get better for you both.

Lion,

Now that I see it, I don't think the third rail is a guard rail - more likely a ground strap. I can see the supply and slot for the power shoe so It would need a separate ground for elevated use, no?

And if it works, a little music from the homeland for you.

Good Morning,

TF, short trips are indeed good but we just came back from 3 weeks in Africa at the end of April so the travel budget is indeed blown for this year and likely next.

Dave, sorry to hear about your back. My wife had what sounds to be a similar problem 25 years ago. She had a herniated disc and was in agony sitting. The disc fluid eventually shrunk back but she can't lift much and can't stand for any length of time. We had to wait in line for about an hour in Toronto to board our plane a couple of months ago and her back hurt for a couple of days afterwards.

Ken, a racoon would probably figure out how to use the catapult. We had one last year that unscrewed the top off a fish food container. He did it twice. Two nights ago I was slow in getting the bird feeders in and one took down a feeder, disassembled it and ate the contents. They are very smart.

Well time to get ready to go out for our lunch with Carol's uncle.

Hi Rob. Good to hear from you. Actually the New Haven had electrics so I could set up catenary - just not the trolley type. When you moved, did you stay in the same area so you could still volunteer at the museum?  Nosey people want to know.

Richard ..... You metioned your daughter driving from Casa Grande to Flagstaff. I have a daughter who lives in Casa Grande.

My daughter actually lives in Phoenix but the National Guard unit she is attached to is based in Casa Grande. Sunday began her two-week summer Guard gig. Flagstaff is not a bad place to be in June in Arizona.
