Steven,

Is that a Ford GT40 in your avatar?

Cool car! That's one of the few Fords that I would consider owning even though I probably couldn't squeeze into it.

Speaking of Christmas movies, every Christmas eve for years I would stay up to watch the original version of Scrooge starring Alistair Sim. The scene where Jacob Marley's ghost is rattling the chains is my favourite. It used to scare me when I was a little kid. I haven't seen the movie for a few years so I think I'll watch it again this year on the 24th.

Meanwhile, back in eastern PA, does anyone have more photos to show at this location ?

I just stumbled upon a snapshot from one of our visits to East Broad Top.

East Broad Top, March 1971 by Edmund, on Flickr

Here's another photo, although from western Pennsylvania, of a PRR architectural model of improvements planned for the Pittsburgh passenger station.

 PRR_Pgh_1952_0006 by Edmund, on Flickr

These photos are from a booklet made by the PRR as an informative guide for a director's special train that was run in October of 1952 to highlight progress by the railroad.

I hope this finds everyone well today.

Looks like a nice, wet weekend to spend some time on model railroad projects.

TV is the panacea for the masses. It is how Dumb and Dumber get Dumb and Dumber... Closed course, do not attempt this at home. Real people, not actors. Tell your doctor before taking this or any other medication. Results typical, Your results may vary.

Kevin, that's a great find on that brass engine. I'm amazed at some of the great deals that can be found on Ebay. I'm equally amazed when I see a common item sell for huge amounts of money.

Enjoy the weekend everyone...

Cheers, Ed

Good Evening Everyone!

Only a few days until Christmas and I still lack that festive spirit folks usually have around  this time. Is this an age thing?

The house smell nice of home made cookies and a Linzer Torte Petra made this morning. I managed to steal a slice, but when reaching out for seconds, I got slapped over my fingers. The goodies are meant for Christmas Eve, when our son is joining us for the day. Gee, I don´t think I can wait that long!

Happy times!

I had a car like that when I was very young Steven. Man that car was fast. I took a lot of races in the neighborhood. It was definitely one of my favorites.

I'm not quite sure what engine that one was supposed to have. Sometimes you flipped them over and they would tell you.... Yep,  that car just flew up and down that orange trackLaugh.... gotcha.

Good afternoon from the storm-ravaged West Coast.

No damage to the homestead but a 40cm thick alder fell across the street. I had to go get the daughter at school and the old F-350 went up and over as if it was a little speed bump. When I came back I hooked her up to the truck and as I pulled it, it broke in three and left a space large enough to drive through for the neighbours in their SUV grocery getters.Laugh

We had no power for 22 Hrs so we were on the generator which let me watch the Canucks and then after Dave posting that video on the Merlin engines and Lancaster bomber, I had to watch Battle Of Britain. My favourite war plane movie.

We got slammed pretty good with the wind. White Rock is a community that stands in for New England in TV shows like X-Files and Supernatural and a whole lot of other movies and TV shows. The pier got taken out by a bunch of sailboats that came loose. A guy got stranded out at the end and was rescued by a Cormorant helicopter. Those are the BNSF tracks that go to Roberts Bank.

The kid is at the Ottawa airport having a big pig out of fish and chips waiting for his flight. Just finished a three-hour exam, hopped in an Uber and is on the way to the airport when they saw a guy on a bike get hit by a car. They stopped to help, but rescue was there fast.

All the best to all.

Brent

While I wouldn´t say I hate what my Christmas has turned into, it is certainly not what I want it to be. I always dreamt of a big family Christmas reunion, with me being the grandpa in a rocking chair, reading the Christmas gospel to a flock of grandchildren nestled around his feet, a nice fire going in the fire place, and the scent of cinnamon and chocolate in the air. Maybe too much kitsch, but that´s been my dream since my childhood days, when the Christmas celebrations were quite unlike that.

Now Christmas has turned into a short visit by our son on Christmas Eve, who spends a few hours with us before  heading home to his GF. She cannot come see us - for reasons of health  she claims, but she can visit her family ...

So, this Christmas, it will be Petra and I just by ourselves - like in the past 10 years.

I am asking myself what I did wrong.

I have begun to dislike Christmas.

Happy times!

These old bones find Christmas exhausting, but I would not change a thing.

The kid will be home soon and tomorrow night we have our usual Saturday night crowd in, but instead of watching hockey it will be The Christmas Story as we have done for many years now. Then Sunday and Monday it will be huge family gatherings at two different homes. Then Christmas we will have 22 at our joint for Christmas dinner and then I will spend the next three days doing dishes.Laugh

My son is 20 and my Daughter is 17. After we get home from the gathering Christmas eve, we will watch The Polar Express and then these two elderly children will climb into bed with us and I will read the night before Christmas and because they are so exhausted it is right to bed for them. I will then have to get out of bed and bring a front end loader in to move all the presents from the train room to the tree in the living room.

Almost time to go warm up the Batmobile, the foothills are coming into sight, soon it will feel like it is Christmas.

Sometimes I wish Canada wasn't such a big country.Laugh

Ulrich I was going to ask you about German TV, but I realize I cannot fairly describe US TV, as I watch so little of it.  I know there is reality TV, game shows, dramas and sitcoms, news, or what passes for news and discussion shows that run 24-7.  With cable the are reruns of many things, but not those of my youth, the Hopalong Cassidys or Roy Rogers, Sky King.  Maybe they are out there somewhere.   On Saturdays, there are more college football games than there are news shows.

Is see there is something called Red Bull Ice Crash this afternoon.  Downhill ice skaters racing on a course that looks like it was built for snowboarders, but it is ice.  I might have to catch that one.

Please join me in praying for their families.

German TV is pretty much the same. Endless reruns, boring game shows, stupid soap operas, way too much sports and too much fake news and useless mocked up political discussions, which usually end in bashing a certain elected President or a certain party in Germany, who dares to have a different opinion than Mrs.(?) Merkel and her cronies.

The TV set we have is not hooked up, so we might as well donate it to someone still addicted to the idiot box.

Happy times!

Ditto.

I remember a time when my grandfather and grandmother were at a big table for a feast with the whole family there.... that was Christmas. I'm just glad to have those memories.

You would think things would still be the same, only the roles changed. Judy and I, once the children in this setting would now be the grand parents at the same big table with the whole family present.

Could it be the times have changed that much to where my grandparents Christmas just got bigger and better through the years watching their family grow but somehow this is not the same road for us as we are getting older..... I think so.

Somehow we have adapted. My daughter is in China for her fourth year. I put a check in her bank account. My other daughter is spending Christmas with the other side of the family. I gave her a check as well, with a few knick-knacks. I did have a beautiful day with her last Sunday though. My son is in a neighboring state spending Christmas with his new wife's family. Rightfully so, thier wedding was really beautiful last July. We sent them a big box in the mail with football robes for him, his wife and my grandsons. They always lounge around on Sunday and watch the Vikings together, now they can do it in style.

The times have definitely changed. It is just Judy and I again for Christmas this year. We are getting ready to travel someplace warm as soon as she feels better from the flu. She thinks maybe tomorrow....  We could be almost right on schedule hereWink

I didn't think the front end looked quite right for a Ford GT40 but the picture in the avatar is so small it's hard to tell. I wouldn't argue if someone were to give me a Lola instead of the Ford! Still probably couldn't get into it.Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Chloe, when able, could you find me a double chocolate root beer float with cinnamon and peppermint, and a couple of oatmeal and date cookies, please.

Well Folks Vintage Christmas tree with text and elements  to you all and your loved ones. May it be a woderful memory for you to reflect upon. May you also remember the reason for the Season and to not Drink and Drive.       Christmas Nativity Scene

It will be quiter for us this year as our US. kids can't get enough time to come home and half of my Wife's family will be away on a cruise.  But change is nice too as you find other things to enjoy rather than just the same old.

I've peeked a little and think I'm getting a Walthers GP-9 (MRL) for Xmas which is cool, but will have to paint it at some point into LM&E scheme. I'm not a great Fan of painting locos.

Had my eldest Son home visiting this week from Grande Prairie Ab. this week, but he has to go back on the 23rd. But it was great to visit with him, I think the last time he was here was last May. Two other sons in town who we will share time with on the eve and day of Christmas.

It won't quite be a brown Christmas here but very close to it. We have had very little snow so far. Yesterday morning we woke up to freezing rain and sleet, but fortunately it blew over in about three hours without leaving too much damage. There were a few accidents of course and a Delta aircraft slid off a taxiway turning on to a runway in Saskatoon, with no one injured.

Garry & Ed, I always love your city scenes. I also have one of those Edsels and just picked up a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville 2Dr. hardtop in the gold color just like my Father had.  Those Oxford models ar great and reasonable.

I'll close by wishing every one good health and happy times. Thanks for being forum friends. I do check in often but post much less than that.

Also the best of the Season to all the Kalmbach staff and even to you Br. Zero, I thankyou for the opportunity of the moderated forum and of the great food you offer so freely to us.  Keep up the great work.

Remember, not to much Rum pudding, especially you, Brent and Ken.

Good to hear from you CN Charlie, keep the birds fed and run that HO layout more.
