TOP OF THE PAGE on New Year's Eve! Everybody have a morning smoothie made with black eyed peas, carrots, and asparagus on me.

.

I have been to Waycross, Georgia several times, and found nothing there worth remembering.

.

It is a good town with jobs and industry, but nothing interesting I have seen.

Good morning diners.

Rain tonight will keep the local fireworks quiet and the dog happy.  The shock value of what one network puts on every New Years is of no interest to me, nor is partying to mental oblivion, though I did my share in the past.  I expect to be asleep by midnight.

I expect to be asleep by midnight.

I definitively attempt to, although I am afraid the noise will wake me up. 6h 22 min to go!

Happy times!

One of the unit trains on my layout is a string of two dozen bulkhead flat cars loaded with slash pine pulpwood pulled by a pair of CSX Dash 8s headed for the SJP&P paper mill. Such a train would be a daily sight in Waycross, but other than that and millions of mosquitos there ain't much there there.

Good Afternoon,

A Happy New Year to everyone!

I sure hope the next one is better than this one. We have had a very tough year. Health-wise it has been fine but my wife has really been struggling. At least she has found a good therapist. We booked Africa again but I am afraid we may have to cancel again. I haven't been doing anything much with the RR as I just haven't had the motivation.

TF, we have a Westie who watches TV. He sits on the sofa and waits for any dogs to appear and instantly starts barking at the TV. The 2 Westies we had before would launch themselves off the sofa and attack the TV at any sign of animals especially monkeys. As far as music goes, our first Westie would lie under my wife's piano when she was playing. It certainly was loud under there.

We got a new CD for Christmas by Madeline Peyroux. She is sort of a blues/jazz singer and really  great. She does a wonderful version of Leonard Cohen's 'Dance Me to the End of Love'.  Playing it right now.

Well time to go do a quick trip to get milk. Very cold out there today with a windchill of -40.

GNATS! Billions and billions of gnats!

.

At least the mosquitos are only bad at night, those gnats are a nuisance all day long!

Usually in Cape Coral all we get are ugly Cattle Egrets! These birds are actually on the official seal of the City of Cape Coral.

Egrets, I've had a few.

<ducks the rotten tomatoes>

Sorry for the delayed reponse, but somehow I could not log in during the past days. I am fully aware that many of you have excellent identification skills as far as locomotives are concerned, e.g. you can tell the differences between an F3 and an F7 or a GP7 and a GP9. However, your skills as bird watchers are lacking. The picture does not show cattle egrets, but white ibisses.

Oh no! You nit-picked my birds!

.

Everyone hear has called them Cattle Egrets since I moved here in 1981.

.

They were even on the City's emblem. When they replaced this emblem with the new one around 10 years ago, the debate specifically called them cattle egrets.

.

I guess we are all just lacking.

Kevin,

The bird on the seal is truly an egret; they have straight beaks as shown here for a cattle egret:

The birds on your pic have a curved beak, identifying them as ibisses.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and the birds, well bird seed or what ever they eat. Whistling

Ed reason my daughter was not happy on her Birthday? Maybe because he was not with her husband because he was installing a kitchen sink and not telling her how much he loved her? Whistling Sean did come over after work and got all the leaks fixed.

Ed Glad the kids enjoyed the bank. It was whimsical gift but I hope your family enjoyes it.

 Mixed feelings about 2018.

 Good parts

1 Took my Soical Security, I finally have a fixed income so I can plan things out some.

2 Paid off my Citi Bank Card wich was a $1000.00.

3 Paid off $1000.00 of my Captial 1 Card.

4 Credit Score is up to good. I am going to need that next year!

5 Wife is doing better than I hoped after having her knee being replaced.

6 Still enjoying the trains, thanks Ed. I love the thundering tennis balls! Thumbs Up

7 Heath is Ok at this point. Feet are in a good state, A1C is great and I am keeping the weight off.

 Bad Parts

1 Company I work for is on it's last leg. While there are times it drive me nuts it is a easy job and I can stay off my feet.

2 There are some many things wrong with the house. Sigh If I had a extra $50,000 dollars to spend on the house I bet I come up short on the repair cost!

See you all next year, Ken

For the New Year I installed a replacement 2TB Hard Drive in my old Dell PC. I'm one of those dinosaurs you hear about that has a keyboard, a nice 21" monitor and my computer has PROGRAMS in it and not apps.

The old WD HDD was five years old and is still running but I noticed more bad sectors on it and it was slowing down PC performance very much. I bought an identical HDD and I'm very pleased with it. Got Windows re-installed and most of the programs. A huge amount of photos and documents will live on other removable media and external hard drives.

Foggy night on the layout...
