I was born in the south. Although everyone calls everything a coke, nobody would call a pepsi a coke. In fact I don't know anyone who drank whatever a pepsi is.
RC cola yes . . . a common activity was to take a break and have an RC and a moon pie. Then when we got a little older, we'd have an RC and a Winston.
As for Kevin's North-South demarcation, I think I'd use the Gnat Line instead. It runs through Alabama and Georgia and across South Carolina. I don't have a map at hand, but it is Googleable.

PS Edit. Top of page. Cokes and moon pies all around.

Well I am beat. Did some much need Honey Do's and got under the sink ready to remove the old Avocado Sink! Thank good I am so sick of looking at that dam thing. Plus I hate to say it, but there is a lot of black mold under it. Bought a respirator for mold remove removal, don't want the Son in law sick.

If you have a computer jack at work, you can get a wifi unit fzirly cheaply. Set up your own and keep it private. Or else get your imployer to install one, the cusstomers will appreciate that.

Evening Diners how is everyone doing?.... Last night in a hotel. We're kind of sick of hotels anyway. Always nice to get back to your own bed. We are in Rockford Illinois which was about a 6 hour drive today. I don't really like driving more than 5-6 hours a day.
65 degrees yesterday 17 degrees today, yuck I steered clear on my route home away from Chicago traffic. We will be traveling through LaCrosse Wisconsin tomorrow which is a very pretty area with high river bluffs to look at.
The Internet on my phone only worked sometimes, not very often in Kentucky yesterday. It works like a champion in Illinois so maybe I can do some show-n-tell with some pictures later.
Take it easy guys TF

.
My Hilton Honors account says I have spent over 200 nights in 2018 in Hilton Hotels. I know I can add 20 nights in Drury Inns, 6 nights in a Westgate, and probably 5 nights in Holiday Inns. That is at least 231 nights in hotels this year!
And I wonder why no progress has been made on the house remodel.

Living the dream.
Evening folks,
I took some tylenol for my headache, it went away for a bit but now it's the anvil chorus being played right behind my forehead.
Right now I'm looking for some cars and figures for my drag racing scene.
I'm trying to find a figure to be the flag girl.
I think the girl in the middle will work I'll have to make a little flag or handkerchief for her to be holding.
I'm going to probably get two or three more cars for the spectators and then some assorted teenagers to be the crowd.
I'm going to use some pulled apart cotton for the smoke from the pre race burnouts.
I was thinking of using some textured spray paint for the road surface, I think Rustoleum has one that looks like the worn old asphalt around here.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Wow Kevin, that only leaves 134 nights at home last year. A traveling job has to get tough sometimes but that's why you make the big bucks.
When you travel with your family, you must kind of dread walking into the hotel..... kind of like me, I'm in the big box stores almost every day for my business. When Judy wants to go to Menards on the weekend to get some things for the house, I just kind of turn my head sideways and look at her like a confused dog

It is actually less than that because I thinks I spent at least 20 nights in my Tampa "dorm room".
I travel with my wife almost all the time. All the girls have long since left home, and she is a great travcel companion. She really is my best friend.
NWP SWPI'm going to use some pulled apart cotton for the smoke from the pre race burnouts
If you have the "flag girl" posed with the flag raised, the burnout smoke would have disapated away already.
I don't think the figure you selected is appropriate, unless in a movie. All the flaggers I have ever seen were wearing jeans. Most were guys. Girls aren't into cars, or especially drag racing, as much as you might dream.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf for me at the moment... Still full from lunch at my sister's house. It was a great meal and for the most part good conversation. After we opened the presents that were under her tree and had desert(s) my DiL got a photo that I will share. A photo of me with the two prettiest young ladies I know! My Granddaughters.... The oldest is 11 and the youngest is 9. They are in 6th. and 4th. grade repectively. I think you can figure out who is who..... I am getting so I actually like photos of me!
Steven, I do hope you get feeling better very soon! Keeping you in my prayers! As for the figures for the drag race, I think the one in the middle may be a French Horn player.... Nice Embouchure! I think she could do nicely! Be sure to show us the final scene when you get it done.
Now, as far as the "Southern US"..... You couldn't pay me to live down there! Way, way way too hot too much of the year! I like 4 seasons! We have: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Repair here in upstate NY..... Besides I have relatives that live down about where that line was drawn..... You can have them! Lowlife types I don't want to visit anyway....... LOL (Only kidding, they are at least nice lowlife types...) Photo of some of 'em:

Oh!!!!!!!!! I saw something two days ago I have never seen in my 72 years of living around this area! While I was having breakfast I looked out the kitchen window and there was a flock of Robins eating the quince from my flowering quince. Now that is common..... In late March or early April, but on the 27th. of December?????? Uh........ Hmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Weird stuff that doesn't bode well!
Have a good one out there!

Good stuff Ray..... I enjoyed reading all of it. The dog watching TV, ... I laughed my butt off. I only knew one dog in my life that watched TV and I knew a cat that loved listening to Pink Floyd. It was not coincidence.
My friend Brett would play Pink Floyd. It didn't matter where the cat was in the house, he would come up and lay on the couch with his paws in front of himself like a Sphynx and just close his eyes and listen. Brett would put some different music on and the cat would jump down from the couch and go back downstairs.
Kevin you have a good travel companion, you did, done good. Judy is my best friend too. Anyone that can say they have one best friend later in life is doing great
Good evening Diners,
Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.
I wasn't an overly large fan of Canadian beer, but I did like Keith's and sometimes Labatt's when cold. Moosehead was ok, but it always seemed to me to have a bouquet resembling that of a skunk. The sad thing was the price of beer in Canada. Once, we were in a Restaurant in Victoria and on the menu was beer. The crowning insult was "imported beer, Old Milwaukee, $3.75 per bottle. Yes, it was imported, but Old Milwaukee wasn't exactly high end. Anyway, that was back in 1988.
When I could drink beer, I preferred medium to full bodied Amber ales, malty not hoppy. But I think my all time favorite was the old Olympia as brewed in late 60s and early 70s. In the early 80s, Miller bought out Olympia, changed the recipe, and it was never quite the same. True it was something of a low rent beer, but I sure liked it.
Steven: Hope you get to feel better soon. Yes, I also vote for the center girl for the flag girl.
For New Years, we'll watch the ball drop, sip a Bailey's, and be glad that we're not in the crowd in Time Square.
Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

The Bass Pro Shops pyramid in Memphis was a very worthwhile visit. Apparently this may not have been built. The owner was stating how expensive the build would be while he was fishing with a world famous fisherman. He said if I catch a 30 pound catfish today I will build it, and that's what happened.
This place made Cabela's look like a toy This is the free-standing elevator truss going up 600 feet up (correction) 300 feet up, the base of the sides are 600 feet. Still too high for me.
I have been a three-story Carpenter my whole life I am terrified of heights I do not like to be over three stories.
This was leaning over the edge of the railing and the big green sign on the side of the pyramid. To get out there I had to walk over the glass that you could see 300 feet underneath you, TERRIFYING
Here's the great big fish aquarium behind the circular bar upstairs with all the game fish

Pictures don't do any justice to what you see with your own eyes when you are there, experiencing it for yourself.

Good Morning!
Sunday again! Time to enjoy my virtual high-calorie, high-carb, high-fat, unhealthy, but yummy breakfast. Actually, it´s more of a brunch now, as I am running late, despite getting up early. Just couldn´t get the horses to git going properly until now.
TF - jeepers, 10 horses couldn´t pull me into that elevator and make going up all to the top with it. Since about 10 years, even standing on a step ladder has become an issue for me, so going up heights is a no-no for me!
Ray - you are to be congratulated on your cute granddaughters. Hard to believe trhat you reported the birth of the little one when I started to visit the diner!
I am on a crazy path right now. I am losing interest in my trains, not just only my layout. This may have something to do with the rather obscured outlook on Petra´s and my future, but at the moment I wish I didn´t have them and have the cash tied up them in my "Getaway" kitty. I shall be looking into dismantling the layout and selling the bits on the "Bay" in the new year.
Happy times!

A woodpecker destroyed the round wood decorative vent over my garage. Happened yesterday morning and we never heard it, just saw all the wood chips on the driveway.
We have robins all year round. I never thought about it, but blue jays only appear now and then and don't seem to hang around more than a couple ours. Herons an ospry have all gone south.
Never been to a drag race. I was never that much of a car guy, but I have watched it lately on TV. The forth and fifth top nationally ranked drivers are women. There's a lot of room for safety improvements in that sport.
I should either bend some grab irons today or work on my static grass skills.

TF,
The Pyramid in Memphis was built as a concert venue and was used for that for many years until the Fed-EX forum was built. It sat empty for years until Bass Pro built that "store" in there.
Nice pictures.
Ray Nice picture of you and Granddaughters.
We have robins here year round as well. Humming birds is what usually migrate through. we have Canada geese that love in the park year round, they make an awful mess.
We don't have too many Jays, I did see one the other day though.
Interesting stuff, MLC. I just had to do some searching and reading.
I went to the web site where Steven found those figures. I was amazed at how good they all looked. Detail like I've never before, then I realized they were all 1/32 scale. So my search continues for HO scale figures.
This was my first year ever at seeing a single robin bouncing around our driveway, at out place in northern WI., in the middle of the woods, in the snow. I had a few night crawlers left over, so I set them out there. The robin hung around for a couple of days.
Have a great Sunday.

I understand your My situation is similar, but different. I find good looking stuff on websites all the time: good detail, variety and selection, decent price, readily available . . . only to discover it's HO stuff.
Anyone else have pheasants in their yard? There's a 70-acre beanfield out back. The birds feast a little and then scurry into my yard to hide and rest up under the shrubs and junipers. I get a photo now and then, but they are way too skittish to be snuck up on.
We have plenty of peasnats here in North Dakota. Some Turkies too.
Those figures are 1/32? Oh well, I was looking at the website I just searched "Preiser HO scale teenage girl figures" on Google and that was one of the results.
Hey it's good to be back home again, sometimes This Old House feels like a long lost friend, yes, hey it's good to be back home again
Evening Diners...... We have lots of pheasants and turkeys here. We see them almost everywhere, especially the turkeys.
We had a fun lunch today in the Wisconsin Dells. Buffalo Phil's. I told Judy this morning I was in the mood for tacos for lunch, we settled for taco pizza.
What was cool is, it was a train restaurant. The train brought your soda pops and appetizers to you.
The little kids were having fun.... The big, old kids where too
PS You have to drive a ways up north if you want to hunt grouse, at least up to Pine City. I prefer grouse over pheasant, less of a dark meat and a white breast.... less gamey tasting. Grouse are native, pheasants we're brought here from China. The way I described them, a premium quality, tender and succulent chicken from the woods if you will. Especially the way my mom prepared them.
I used to hunt pheasant. Without a dog, you walk up and down the entire farm. Any day outside is still a fun day, but just when you decide it's about time to turn around, there are no pheasants here, one explodes up into the air from almost at your feet.
The taste is OK, probably made better by the effort, but I think dove are better and pigeon are the best. You don't want a city pigeon that dines on cigarette butts though.
New Years Eve: Lebanon PA drops a salami and Dillsburg drops a pickle at midnight. The new year comes in around here with more rain and a crab drop.
My flyswatter static grass applicator is a bust. 4 different mixes of glue and 2 different grasses and it looks like short hair and not the ones that you would see if I posted a pic. I may buy one of those Chinese clones of real applicators.
edit Watching the news and there was a stupid story about Russian scuba divers planting a Christmas tree at the bottom of a lake. Just when I was thinking there was vodka involved, the ticker at the bottom of the screen said "Celebrated with a bottle of Champagne." The reporter pronounced it Cham pag knee!

New Sink Well I will give my Son In Law a E for Effort and L for Leaks. He is coming by Monday to give it anther try. Daughter is none to happy, today was her and Monday New Years Eve.
Speaking of Son In Law Sharon was with the wife while he did the sink here at my house. When we thought he was done he came out to the Train Room / Garage. I told him " Sean, I know my smoking makes you sick!" He told me "it does not bother me, she just not me to get into model trains again!"
Ed He was very impressed by BLI Rolling Thunder I will add.
Ok Ed, it is Sunday. Did the grand kids enjoy the bank? Did you make any money from them?

Evenin' everyone!
I remember being told that I ate pheasant from off our farm back when I was very little (3 years old or so) but I don't remember much except the stories my dad would tell. My grandfather had a 1910 copywrite Harington and Richardson Arms Company 12 guage single shot shotgun. He would go out hunting by himself and return about a half hour later with a bag limit of them. My uncle would go out with a couple buddys using his high priced Ithaca Deerslayer shotgun and a case of beer.... They would be out shooting at trees all afternoon and never even see a pheasant....... I have no recalection of what pheasant tasted like, but I was told I liked it. (I still have what is left of the Shotgun.... No stock, and there is no way I would try to fire anything from it now!)
You know I never finished up the tour of the Steamtown Museum I started early in the month. So...... Here are some shots I will finish the day's activities with:

I hope everyone is doing fine and is ready to ring in the New Year!
We sure had fun, Ken! Great family gathering and we even got to run trains for a while, too!

House is quiet again and some of the cats have come out from hiding. For some reason some cats get scared around little people.

Right now I'm what they'd call "binge" watching the old Equalizer series, I'm about to turn it down though cause my head is starting to thump again. I actually can watch shows on mute if I have subtitles/closed captions on, annoyingly the Equalizer doesn't have subtitles, usually the shows where the TV doesn't make the subtitles on it's own has an option for the "official" subtitles from the DVD, ohh well.
Last night my head was pounding, I had a headache, err cranial earthquake (magnitude 9.8 on the Richter scale) that'd make one want to run into a wall head first just to have a reason for the pain, today my stomach is much MUCH better, I can actually down a small meal without getting nauseous.
As I said earlier I'm looking for figures again.
MB Klein has a nice assortment I'm hoping I'll find the ones I need there.
December 31st, 2018 - the countdown has begun!
A not so good year is coming to an end, for which I am glad! I don´t think the coming year can be as bad as this one was for Petra and I. Physical attacks, harassment, threats, thebfear to become homeless and health issues - I guess we had the load of it this year.
So here is to hoping that 2019 will be a better year for all of us!
I don´t have any New Year´s resolutions. I gave up smoking and drinking long time ago, and I am too old to cheat on my wife , so there is no need for a resolution - other than surviving another year!
My Swiss friend Pascal has sent me a new video of his wonderful layout. He has been installing the catenary and made good progress. The layout will be getting a photo backdrop of the prototype location and I bet it will be hard to tell it´s a model!
Enjoy!
I slept in late, and I plan to be up to see the changing of the year, but I am just not feeling it right now.
I have a headache, and I am still not all awake.
I have not missed a midnight on New Year's since I was in grade school. I hope I will be able to stay awake.
New Year's Eve used to be my favorite holiday, now it is Halloween.
Maybe I should go buy some fireworks.
Whale it is almost another month, and another year...
I remember that song about a Waycross Georgia boy. Then I saw some vids of Florida trains that were headed to Waycross GA, so I googled Waycross.
Aside from a Railroad Cloverleaf, I really found little there to be nostalgic about, at least not enough to inspire a song.
I really could not find a street that looked like a home-town main street. I saw no hills, no real countryside. Listening to the song, I thought of some quaint little town tucked into the hills of Georgia. Does Georgia even have any rustic hills?
Well, maybe we could move the diner to Waycross, but will will have to find more happening there than just trains, for one want to see that place that I pictured in my mind when I first heard that song.
