Evening all,

Brent, not that I would mind dating a girl older or smarter than me but a decade is a bit too much of a gap!Laugh I think 20 would be the utmost limit right now!Laugh

I finally got that video to load, somebody was hustling over that crossing!

Theres one in Zachary that you'll certainly get some air if going fast enough.

Ray, congratulations on the weight loss!

Die Hard now has a Christmas trailer!

Went to the youth group Christmas party this evening, had a good time.

Should know what's wrong with my truck tomorrow!

For my birthday trip we're now considering California as an option, I think it would be a more enjoyable trip due to the fairer weather there this time of year.

Top of page drinks are on me!

I'll be around!

Steve

. . .I have now lost (since the first photo) 13 lbs. more than my late wife ever weighed! I now tip the scales at 198. That's a total of 127 lbs. since the first photo! . . .

Wow. Just, wow.

Over all good day at work. Had $1370.00 in sales which is not that bad this time of the year.

Ray How tall are you? I all so weighed 320 at one point and I was fat, well still am. But while heavy in the faces, never as much as your first photo. Keep up the good work!

Good Morning Everyone!

Only 5 days till Christmas! Got all the Christmas presents for the ones you love?

Ray, this is an  enormous achievement of yours! It requires a lot more endurance and discipline than giving up smoking. This is probably the second biggest change in your life! I admire you, as I don´t think I don´t have that amoun of will power!

I fail to understand what a rather brutal action movie has got to do with Christmas. The makers of this watchamaycallit fabrication of cheap thrill entertainment seem to have forgotten, what we celebrate on Christmas day. For me, this movie has absolutely the wrong message!

Bear - I totally agree!

In view of the Christmas markets massacres of Berlin 2 years ago and recently in Strasbourg, showing a movie like "Die Hard" at Christmas is simply unethical and tasteless.

Mornin' folks!

Thanks for the good comments.  To say I feel better is an understatement!  Before I got working out and really watching my diet a year ago I had some bad spinal stenosis and arhritis in almost all my joints.  Just getting out of bed in the morning was painful.  The excercise and weight loss has mostly cured all the joint pain.  I have also suffered from psoriasis for the last 25 years and that has cleared up amazingly.  Lots of benefits!  It sure doesn't hurt my feelings to have ladies "look me over" as well.  There is a big difference in the smiles I have been getting from complete strangers these days.

cudaken
Ray How tall are you?

I used to be all of 5' 8.5" back 30 years ago...  I have shrunk to (as of my doctor's appt. last week) 5' 7.6".  Lost almost an inch in hieght.  Doc says that is normal at my age and that I will shrink more as I age.  I am reminded of George Burns:

"By [age] 93, I had shrunk quite a lot. My car was known as the Phantom Cadillac. People would see it whizzing by and they would swear there was no driver."

Biggest part of success is making up your mind what you are going to do, and then just doing it.  I owe a lot of my success to my Pastor who has been a great mentor and friend.  (Too bad she is not looking for a man... After she retires in a couple years she will be moving back to the Chicago area to be near her kids and families.)

I have to retune the guitar ASAP as it has new strings and I need to play it tonight.  First time in over a decade.  I have no callouses any more and need to get them built up.  I am just accompaning the first verse of Silent Night for the Scout Troop party so I think I can stand the pain long enough to get through that.  I will be starting up in earnest right after Christmas.

Thanks again for the kind comments, that helps me keep at the process a little easier!

Morning,

Ed Ulrich, I understand that Die Hard isn't a "Christmas" movie in the traditional sense, more of an action movie at Christmastime.

It's a Wonderful Life is actually my favorite Christmas movie, while Die Hard is one of my favorite action movies (along with Mission Impossible).

And yes older pre 1960 movies are better than some of the stuff being churned out today.

Kevin, yes it was the timing cover gasket and the driveshaft hanger bearing, I got a new timing chain too, but the truck was sluggish when I picked it up so I brought it back, the mechanic took a ride with me and agreed that it was an issue, he said he couldn't look at it till yesterday because he wouldn't be in the shop Monday or Tuesday.

The reason for the age limit is because my mom would flip if I was dating a girl that much older than me, and since I live under my parents roof still it's a good idea to keep them appeased!

"Die Hard is a Christmas movie" is simply a joke based on the fact the movie is set around Christmas; and many people like it. (And by now, if "brutal action movie" is your thing, you're probably quite tired of the hallmark "Christmas Movie Part 2: The exact same as Part1, just in a new city" type movies that everyone's been playing for the last month.

Good blustery morning from the west coast. Actually, it is more than a bluster as the wind has topped a 100kmh so far and it just started. I just saw a tree fall across the street in the 100-acre wood. I just don't want one of our big ones to come down as that requires a whole lot of chainsawing. We have some firs that are up to 2 metres in diametre.

One thing about dating a girl 10 years older than you is that by the time you hit fifty you are at the same stage health and ability wise. I have seen a few examples of that.

Lights are flickering so best shut her down. Have a surge protector on the house but why tempt fate.

All the best to all.

I must have a different sense of humour, because I fail to see the funny part.

I am not at all into action movies, nor do I favour "sweet" romance stuff. As a matter of fact, I don´t watch television at all.

.

I don't know exactly where this falls on the "sweet romance" stuff, but I genuinely enjoy a lot of movies people call "ckick flicks".

.

Movies like Terms of Endearment, The Notebook, Beaches, etc. I think are really worth watching. Just because a movie has interesting characters, and evolving storyline, and no shoot-outs does not mean it is not enjoyable to watch.

.

I would tend to call movies like this more of "life drama" than "chick flicks", but call them whatever you will, I do enjoy good movies.

.

Christmas surprise for me this year! I just got a Sunset brass USRA Heavy 2-8-2 on eBay for less than $200.00 with shipping, Buy It Now. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it.

Hmmm.....

Ulrich, I'm with you.  I haven't really watched TV in many years.  I don't think they actually show "movies" on TV anymore.  It's more like advertisements with a few movie breaks here and there.  The advertising gets dumber and dumber as well.  Everytime I am exposed to the crap on TV at my son's house, I can't help but think that people who watch TV constantly have no grey matter left at all in what once was a brain.....Whistling

BORING!!!!!!!!!

I don't even have TV at my house.  I do have a TV Set that is ROKU connected, but it hasn't even been turned on in at least 10 months.  That time I turned it on to play Wii with the granddaughters.......

Ray outstanding weight loss!

Stephen If she dates you, she could lose her medical license.  I agree with your assessment that 10 years is a big age difference at your age unless you plan to be premier of France.

Another 3" of rain forecast for the next 2 days will push us to 70" for the year with a normal of 40"

TV I watch local (never national, anymore) news, Nascar, skiing, business shows, Dr Who and an ocassional cooking or history show.  The new Deal or No Deal is not too bad, but I only watched one and the contestant was down to 3 suitcases, one with a million bucks.

To Clear it up: Die Hard was released in July of 1988. The film just happeend to take place around the holidays. It was never inteneded to be a "Christmas movie " as there is no part of Christmas wrote in to the story. The fan base of the movie started calling it a Christmas movie basically as a joke because it is so NOT a Christmas movie.

Fox took a big gamble on Bruce Willis at the time because he was almost an unknown at action. He was a comedy actor.

The Fox marketing dept picked up on the "Christmas movie" tout and recut a trailer to make it holiday themed to sell the DVD collection of the 5 films ( 4 and 5 were horrible btw). 4 was a 4th of July movie and not sure what 5 was other than trash.

Leathal Weapon was a March release the year before ( usually the month that they put movies out that they think are stinkers) It takes place during the holidays as well. It was a surprise hit for Warner Bros.

So Die Hard is really a "good guy wins, suspension of disbelief movie" and some people do want to " get lost" in the entertainment of a movie.

Dwanye Johnson's Skyscraper was a total rip off of Die Hard.

There was a time, when Hollywood really made good movies, entertaining the entire family. They stopped doing that somewhere in the mid-1970s, when they found out that they could earn more money by making films appealing to the lower range of instincts, displaying an unbelievable amount of violence.

Not my kind of entertainment. Especially at Christmas time.

Happy times!

I hope, Steven, that the engine, and oil, were hot just before that start and the subsequent revving, otherwise your model railroad budget could be getting spent on a replacement engine, sooner than later.

Good morning... I haven't felt too text attentive this week. The night, early AM after my Christmas party with my friends, I came down with the flu, Yuck.  I'm starting to feel better today but my poor wife started coming down with it last night, I felt so bad for her.

We had Christmas travel plans starting Saturday that will be postponed at least a few days.... I can look at the bright side of things though. The three weeks I had planned to take off for Christmas and New Year's, just turned into fourSmile, Wink & Grin

I just wanted to stop in and add my congratulations to Ray. A lot of people go through their whole life talking about the goal that you achieved. It takes a lot of self-control to do what you did, you should be proud.

Happy Holidays all.      TF
