Birth is heriditary...

If your parents had no children, then neither will you.

Well anyway, I chose to have no children, so I have no grand children either.

Most of the monks are 'home' (Here at the Abbey) for christmas.

We have a stylized way of celebrating it, we set up trees both in the dining room (Cafeteria / refectory) and another in the community room, (our living room). We have many decorations in the community room dining room, and lunch room. We have songs and hymns that we sing, and a Christmas Eve supper in the community room (the cooks get christmas eve and christmas day off.)

We do our own cooking on Christmas, I am scheduled to bake the bread.

And since I am at the top of the page, I've got some molases sugar cookies my brother made for me (now that mom has passes away.)

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer please.

Had a nasty fall last night. I sneezed real hard fell on to a chair's back, then the floor. Yes, I had some Beer so that did not help matters. Added the rounded souls of my Dieabtic shoes and a real hard sneeze? Whistling

Funny thing the fall did not hurt me, but the chair back sure did. While there is no bruise but my left thigh hurts if it touches something.

Did my last Christmas check writing today.

Daughter is giving me a Tablet. Not sure what the heck I will use it for, but still sort of looking forward to it. At one point I wonder why a person would want a computer in there house? Smile, Wink & Grin

 Later, Ken

Good evening...

All is quiet here, just me and the six cats Indifferent

Mrs. Pullman's dad was rushed to ER with heart problems this morning. He was scheduled for surgery on January 15th, but the recent developments may change that.

Thanks for the molasses cookies, LION. I love molasses. I like a teaspoon or two on my oatmeal Yes

Maybe trade it in on a heating pad?

Well, off to the layout to see what inspires me. I have five PRR passenger cars awaiting a paint job. I believe I'll tackle that.

Enjoy the evening, folks.

Cheers, Ed

Here's a Christmas Grinch story:

A family in Ottawa, Ontario built a skating rink for their kids. What could be more Canadian? Unfortunately a neighbour complained to the city, and because the rink doesn't apparently meet city bylaw standards, they have had to take it down! How's that for being neighbourly?!? And what Christmas spirit they have shown! I hope they get coal in their stockings!

I wonder if they could have appealed the order? That would have probably taken 90 days or so and by then the rink would take care of itself.

Alternately, all they had to do was knock the boards down. The ice would still be there. What are they supposed to do, get an ice melter?

I sneezed real hard fell on to a chair's back, then the floor

That's a new one on me.

I once fainted in a coughing fit.  A swallow of rum and coke went down the wrong pipe. (There is a theme here Beer) and I coughed so hard I thought I was going to puke.  On my way to the bathroom I hit the wall.  I awoke, no longer coughing, with the dog standing on my chest and my wife screaming "should I call 911?"

My cardiologist didn't think it was my aortic stenosis, but as I had my valve replaced 6 months later, so he was probably wrong.

Still,.. we are doing better than my patients that fell in the shower.  They landed on things that usually aren't found in showers and those things went into places that you don't talk about on a forum like this.

Red Bull Ice Crash lived up to it's name.  To my surprise, no broken bones, but in the final mens heat, everyone crashed and the guy who was 1st finished 4th and the guy in 4th won the race.  One of the women was an Olympian figure skater!

My parents brought me up to be too polite to ask a question like that. Now you have me wondering why!Hmm

Ed, how do you get the box within a box when you quote other people's posts with a quote in that post?

Thanks

Good evening ..

I just returned from taking my Main Squeeze on a date.... dinner in Paducah.

It looks like the Diner has been busy today. I see an abundance of yummy scrumpcious goodies. Cakes. Cookies. ... mmmmmmm .... I'll have some egg nog, please.

John Boy .... Feel free to post more often even if it is just a brief "Hello". Your Christmas gift of a MRL may not fit in with the rest of your layout, but you may not wish to repaint it. I have running sessions on my layout when anything goes. Then, I operate gifted equipment that does not fit in with the theme of my layout. For instance, I received a gift a few months ago of a Paducah and Louisville GP40 (Atlas model). It is a beautiful, sound equipped, nice running locomotive. It's fun to operate even if it has nothing to do with CB&Q in 1950-1965. ... Glad to read your good advice to people not to drink or drive. I do not like drunk drivers.

Christmas .... It is good to read about all of the family get-togethers, and I'm glad people remember the reason for the season !

Everybody ...... Have a nice evening ...

Evening folks!

Made the run to Metairie today, left the house at 10:00 and got there at 1:30, and it's only an hour and 45 minutes from my house. I hit some traffic as I got close to New Orleans. But I made it just there in time!

As I was walking into the storage building (the guy is having a train sale out of his storage locker at one of those indoor storage places) Nate the club Dunce was walking out with some rolling stock in hand, with his usual sense of cuth and tact he rudely said "bout time you got here, I didn't think you were coming" I politely replied, yeah I've got my aunt and young cousins with me so it took a little while getting here.

He then proceeded to tell me how since I'm late I cant get in and how Mike and Jr. had left just a bit before my arrival.

He got in his car and left, I proceeded to call Art who notified us of the sale, he said I'd have to either get the manager (who got in his car and left just as I got there) to buzz me in, get the guy who didn't have his cellphone to buzz me in, or wait for someone to go up and get in that way.

Well I lucked out and a young mother was going up to her locker on the same floor as the sale and I was able to ride up with her.

I'm going to tell Nate when I see him that I was lucky enough that a young college girl was getting on the elevator and I used my usual charm to ride up to the 2nd floor.

(It wasn't a college girl it was actually a young mom and her toddler, but Nate doesn't need to know that!Laugh)

Of course I'm going to fudge certain details to make the story better cause that'll really get his goat!Laugh

I ended buying two Kato Non DCC SD80MACs Undec for 180, I'm going to have them painted into NWP-SWP colors and get loksound put in.

I think I'm going to start working on singing the Righteous Brothers "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"

I think it'll make a good addition to my repertoire.

I might also try Billy Joel's "Until the Night" which is heavily influenced and inspired by the Righteous Brothers and the aforementioned song.

What do you guys think?

I take it that your version of the NSWP has changed eras again?

That locomotive is from the mid 1990s. That represents another trip through the time warp, without the benefit of a jump to the left or a step to the right.

We've been working on it  we got ownership to it, it was going to be where I was going to move, then my parents decided to make it a rental to generate some revenue, they've offered to let me rent it but I think that would ruin my relationship with my parents.

My parent actually don't want me to move out yet, unless its into the mobile home.

The reason it might ruin my relationship is my dad is a little weird with money and his fiscal responsibility to his "almost" grown children.

I pay for my phone service, tires, phone financing, fast food, and any extras that I want but my dad sometimes makes remarks that I should pay for this or that something is "his" and he pays for it so I can't use it, example of this is the livingroom television, he'll be doing something in another room, there'll be a program on pause (we have a recorder) I'll sit down and put on something like Top Gear and he'll pass by and get mad that I changed the channel off the show he wasn't watching, I am not joking!

At that point I just shut the TV off and go do something else!

By introducing a monetary aspect to that relationship I doubt it will end well.

I also however know that the day I move out is fast approaching due to growing tensions between me and my parents, it's not so much that I'm being rebellious or a wild heathen it's just they still kinda want to control everything I do like I'm 4 (it's small stuff too not like you can't go here or be out after this time) I understand that as parents that's they're right as long as I live under their roof.

I'm planning on moving out sometime early this summer if finances permit.

It's really a complex mess to be honest!

Good Morning!

Sunday, the 23rd of December 2018 - the 4th Sunday of Advent! Let us kight the 4th candle on our Advent wreath.

Flo, I´ll skip the big Sunday breakfast and go for a bowl of muesli and coffee, instead. I´ll have to leave room for all the goodies to come!

Steven, I think you´ve got a few things mixed up there. If I remember correctly, you graduated from highschool this summer, but instead of continuing your education, decided to get a job and earn money. I don´t think your income is sufficient to completely support you, but in my opinion, it is your obligation now to contribute to your upkeep, instead of complaining that you have to pay for the extras in your life.

It´s about time you grow up and take up responsibility, young man!

Ironically, I just finished listening to Bruce Springsteen's Live on Broadway show.

In it, he has some very deep and emotional stories about his relationship with his dad — and his mom. I've alway's enjoyed listening to his yarns about "growing up" — "My father was my hero... and my greatest foe".

A very worthwhile show if you have the ability to see it.

A father-son relationship is very complex and many of the subtle clues will remain a mystery to you for years. Then one day it will hit you — "so that's what the 'ol man was talking about" I have a story to tell about my dad that I just discovered yesterday. Stay tuned...

Regards, Ed

Nothing about this sounds complex at all.

.

Your dad wants respect for paying your bills and providing for you after you have graduated from high school. You are at the point where you need to demonstrate you can be an adult, and he wants signs of growth in this direction.

.

I am sure he would love to believe you can be an adult, and soon.

.

I moved out at 17 and never came back. Once you spend six months on your own you will see how perfectly normal your whole situation is.

Let me straighten some things out.

1 I graduated EARLY so technically I'd be in 12th grade until May 2019 had I not worked my @%^$ off to finish two grades in one year!

2 I'm just now turning 18 in January, again I'd still be in high school if I didn't finish early.

3 I'm not complaining about my responsibilities or bills ect... I enjoy working and making and spending my own money.

4 I didn't enroll in college because my mom didn't want me to leave for college at 17.

5 I'm still going to attend college and further my education, I'm taking the SAT and ACT this spring and will be attending school for the spring 2020 semester, again this will only be one semester after I was going to graduate (may 2019) but I finished early (may 2018) and I'm taking some time to get things in order.

6 my parents have said that I can live in the house rent free and they pay for my food and such till I go to college but one knows when the time to move out is nigh and for me it's right around the corner.

7 let me state AGAIN I'm not some spoiled brat that's upset that I have to become an adult, I'm ready to move on to the next stage of my life. My parents are a bit more reluctant to "let go" than I am.

As always text cannot convey emotion or tone so my statements may have come across wrong.

Also dont take this clarification as rude or churlish, it is written with the utmost respect and politeness.

Good Evening, Crew! The afternoon had been one of acts of kindness. I went to the pharmacy to pick up a few things and my wife gave me some discount coupons, the kind that can only be used if you have a discount card on account with the store. Well, that card has been long gone, but the card account can be accessed through my wife's phone number. When the clerk asked for it, I suddenly realized that I didn't bring my phone with me to read it off because I just never memorized her phone number! The kind and understanding clerk gave me the discounts anyway and wished me a Merry Christmas. Later, the doorbell rang and it was our landlord, Mark, and his wife. They stopped by to wish us a Merry Christmas, gave us a box of chocolates, and a very nice throw blanket. They also gave us permission to have our newly adopted second cat, Louisa, live in the house, and that was just great of them. Louisa now has a new home. And no sooner had they left that our next door neighbor lady came by with a bowl of home-made cookies! It's these small things that are, to me, the real Spirit of Christmas.
