Afternoon folks!

Heartland Division CB&Q
Evidently, nobody read my post last night carefully, but I'll share virtual cake and ice cream with you anyhow.

Well I saw it, but it was too close to bed time for me to comment.  So....

"Hippo Birdie, Two Ewes! Hippo Birdie, Two Ewes!  Hippo Birdie, Deer Gar---ry!  Hippo Birdie, Two Ewes!!!!!"

Hope you have a Great Day!

I got my 4 miles in over at the Fieldhouse this morning.  I think they turned the heat on today about half way through my walking time.....  They were also hosting a kids Squash Tornament there today, I guess.  Most of the kids and their coaches/trainers were warming up right in the middle of the track so I had to detour around them several times.  They could have gone into the Basketball/Tennis courts that are inside the track, but prefered to be jumping around swinging rackets, and sprinting up and down the track usually going in the wrong direction.  Oh, well just a one day affair I guess.  Awfully cute young kids anyway....

We are under a Heat advisory again today...  Heat index values here are in the mid to upper 90's with the actual temperature in the high 80's and high humidity.  Nice bright sunny day out there, so I am making enough electricty from the panels to run my air conditioning at no additional cost.  I think I'll just spend the rest of the day inside...... Whistling

Tomorrow I will be going down to Hammondsport, NY to be in a operating session at one of my favorite layouts.  Should be fun!  The division (NMRA) is also looking at doing most of our next Meet with the subject of layout operations....

BTW, what venerable age are you now at?  (I'm told I'm at Geezer, Not young anymore, Not quite dead yet.  Somewhere in between!)

Happy B-Day to Garry!

I read your post yesterday and remembered it was the big day. Have a good one. If I lived closer I would bring over a nice vintage to share.

It is another fine day here 25c and sunny.

Had a couple of Mounties out front of the neighbours' house. We have a large forest across the street we call the 100-acre wood. Apparently, someone has built a treehouse and is living there. The City has just now arrived to remove it. I went out to see what was up and said "I guess he has to live somewhere". Just to tick off my nasty up the street neighbour who was there.

We are pretty far from stores and other services and wondered why a guy would live out here. Apparently, he has a car.Indifferent If he can afford a car, I guess he isn't that bad off.

This nasty neighbour of which I speak, I thought was a great guy for the first 23 years I lived here as we talked often. A few weeks ago he came down to invite me to a gathering at his house to meet the local Federal candidate running in the next election. I said I am aware of her and it would be nice to meet her.

He then started talking about the Chinese and East Indian people in the community in a disgusting manner and made even more disgusting remarks about immigrants. I informed him that both my wife and Mother were immigrants and I will not be attending his get together as it sounds like it will be more of a meeting of the Klan and then I walked away.

He hasn't come near me since, until today. We just said hi to each other and that was it. I knew the squatter wasn't there while we were out talking to the Police. The two officers gravitated to me instantly once I said "I guess he has to live somewhere". I think they realized my neighbour was an unsympathetic jerk. As I left I said, "if he's hungry, send him over and I'll make him a sandwich". I am sure that infuriated my neighbour.

It's too bad he insulted my (immigrant) wife they have a few purebred border collies they enter in competitions and would always talk to my wife about Vet stuff and animal nutrition. Vent over.SoapBox

Well time to hop on the Deere, it has been quite a while since I have cut the lawn as we have had only two or three very light sprinkles since May. It looks a little ragged. I don't want my new treehouse dwelling neighbour to think I keep an unkempt yard.Laugh

All the best to all.

Good eventing Diners,

Garry:  while I don't normally celebrate birthdays, I'll just say congratulations or condolences, whichever apply!

Yes, it does hurt a little when nobody recognizes a big event in your life.

All the best!

Brent, the more I know about you , the more I like and respect you!!!  There are a few people around here like your neighbor.  I try to avoid them to keep my blood presure down.  Of course, being invloved with several community organizations that do their best to help people, all people, those types usually avoid me as well.....

We had fun at the Fair today. I never did put two and two together before we went that it was Labor Day today. It was way crowded! We made the best of it though.

My favorite part was the bull riding in the Horse Coliseum. Man those boys are tough. One of the bulls hind legs came down on one of the riders with full force after he fell off. It had to of cracked or broke his ribs. He just stood up smiling and walked away.

Happy Birthday Garry,  another year wiser you areBig Smile

Evening diners,

I saw the models for TS Gordon, looks like we'll be on the left side of the storm and that it will only be a Cat. 1 or 2.

I had to scuttle the pool furniture at the two hotels in preparation for the storm, the hard part was keeping the chairs from floating!

I'm hoping that the storm comes nowhere near Baton Rouge because tomorrow evening is the weekly meeting at the MSMRC.

I'm beat so I'll lurk a little while and then hit the sack.

'Evenin Folks

This was also our weekend to attend the Great Geauga County Fair. 196 years at the same location Whistling  A tad warm it was at 92°F (33.333C).

Watched our nieces and nephew horse around a bit. Here they are, gettin' hitched Smile, Wink & Grin

Four-in-hand like nobody's business. Earlier in the day these girls were driving a team of eight draft horses. That IS an impressive sight. You can feel the power just like a passing locomotive.

Nine-year-old Teddy (the driver, not the horse!) and his grand dad on a spiffy trap.

Yes it was fun, but big crowds on a hot day aren't exactly my idea of time well spent. Good to be with the family and grandkids, too!

Brent Yes I've always held that the world is a big enough planet that anyone should be free to live, in peace, anywhere they wish.

A few storms passing through but no cool-down until Thursday.

Hope you had a great day, Garry! Cake and everyone else, too!

Cheers, Ed

I didn't get a chance to catch up on all the posts from when I left for the Fair this morning... Brent you are a good man. I see you think the way I do.

While the more fortunate eat stakes, drive new cars and live in a nice home, some fellow human beings are not so fortunate and don't have much of anything.

Why would anyone want to drive these people down harder into the dirt.

When a fellow human being is having a hard time you help them not hinder them.

The same reason Judy and I brought four big bags of very nice comforters to the organization that is helping people living under bridges in Minneapolis.

These people have problems. They're messed up. Their lives have become unmanageable. That's even more of a reason you try to help.

None of these people ever said when they were young, when I grow up I want to be a heroin addict.

Some people had the opposite of a cake life. Some people grew up in a living hell.... Many refuse to look and understand these circumstances. These circumstances are even more of a reason to help those less fortunate.Thumbs Up

First time I've been here in September and I've walked into another firestorm.

I belonged to another forum, where all they days' threads were organized under the first thread of the day and anybody could start tomorrows thread at anytime.  People started that first thread as early as 8 pm so they could be first.  Management put a stop to that, but left a loophole.  If you edit your post, it appears as the latest post.  The same people are now making 5 or 6 minor changes to a post, so it floats near the top, all day long.

Back on the homefront, my homeowners association is in an uproar.  Instead of handing them a budget, literally, in a noisy bar, or emailing it after the fact or not at all, we sent it to them 30 days before the vote, as required by state law.  We also used real numbers instead of the 2013 budget that has been recycled every year and they are in disbelief at what things really cost.

There was no increase in the landscaping budget for 5 years and no accounting for what was really spent.  Most insensed are the people that never volunteer and the wives of board members that purposely misinformed the neighborhood and kept no receipts or proper accounting.

First time I've been here in September and I've walked into another firestorm.

WHAT firestorm?

I scanned back many postings. I don't see a firestorm.

I responded to a post in another thread here wondering why people can't be more specific with their intentions.

I have no idea what youre referring to.

Regards, Ed

I had to get to the bottom of the first page to get to a post that was made in September.  Before and after that it was who, where and when has the right to start the 1st post.

Firestorm is a bit a hyperbole, but a bunch of posts busting Stephens chops.  This is a model railroad forum.  Nobody is going to be a penny richer or poorer of live one second more or less because of who starts the forum or where it is.

We are here to have fun.

Ya know, one month I would like to see NWP SWP Steven open the thread and NOT have a bunch of old geezers jump down his throat just because he's not one of them. He did a fine job, which makes it pretty clear that the problem people have with him opening the thread isn't how he does it. And that's all that I think needs to be said on the topic. Capisce?

On a brighter note, we had some relatives over for a cookout the Sunday before Labor Day. My wife made her famous German potato salad, and it was one of the best batches she's ever made. (I hate commercially-made German potato salad; it's always too sweet. My wife's secret: Lots of vinegar!) That night I said, "Is it a bad thing if I don't want to eat spaghetti tonight, even though the sauce is already made, but just have a huge bowl of potato salad?" She said it was the best compliment I ever gave her! Big Smile

Anyway, she always makes a huge batch so there are tons of leftovers. Dig in!
