The waitresses Zoe, Chloe, Flo, Janie, and Brunhilda are very friendly and will serve up plenty of virtual food with a smile. Please don't forget to leave a generous tip!
Each month, the Diner will be spotted in a different location at places all over the world. This month the Diner is located in the Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky region, we can make some excursions to some of the other nearby states if that's wanted.
Its the beginning of each month, it is also the time to pay our respects to friends whom are no longer with us.

Howdy folks,
A few things to go over.
First, this month we are in the Tennessee/Kentucky region, I used to live in Tennessee and my Grandfather lives in Arkansas! We can also include anything from the Appalachian Mountain range, if anyone feels like it. If you have information or a story, anything rail related, that involves these states or ones directly neighboring them please post up!
Second, I got top of page in the last page of the August Diner, so DRINKS ARE ON ME!!
Third, to kick things off this month were on what is now Norfolk Southerns RatHole Division!

It wasn't even September yet? With all due respect Steven I appreciate things a lot more as I'm sure a lot of other Forum members do when something isn't pounced upon.
Ulrich has been setting us up for the Trackside Diner for years and us old guys like it.
He was asking in his different time zone around noon where we would like it to be. You chose what I requested to him but he wasn't even given the chance to wake up and see it.
While he was sleeping you posted still on the 31st.
Be in a hurry on your own time. Us old guys are not. I only have one word for you.

I've also posted the diner a couple of times, but for some reason the past two times you seem very dissatisfied, I do agree Ulrich does a SPLENDID job of posting it, I thoroughly enjoyed his German tour a while back.
Also time on the East Coast of the United States is 11:35 Post Meridian, so in 25 minutes it will be September. Sadly for those on the West Coast they have another 3.5 hours to go!
This month I thought of something different, our primary location is in the states of Kentucky and Tennessee, but also if anyone has something to share from anywhere the Appalachia region go ahead and post it.
I think it really shouldn't matter who gets the "First" post, we're all here, we all have story's to tell and pictures to show, so post up guys!

Any number of us are capable of copy/pasting the new Diner location. Steven has taken the reins.
Last month we were in Alaska and I dont think there were more than a half-dozen posts with photos, videos or other information about Alaska Railroading. Is it really all that big of a deal?

Here are my thoughts on opening the diner.
A few years ago we had three or four guys that would always try and beat each other out on opening the joint up. It got to the point where it was opening earlier and earlier and squabbles broke out and people got their noses out of joint.
Now I don't care who opens up the Diner but I suggest it not be done until it is midnight in whatever timezone you lurk.
We could have Bear do as it is already Sunday afternoon in New Zealand as I type. Though, I suspect he is like me and could care less who opens it up just as long as the beer is cold when we come in.
So take a pill and whoever shows up after midnight turns the lights on. I remember times when it was well into the next day before someone got around to it.
So all in favour of the after midnight rule say YEA! all opposed say NAY! voting closes at the same BAT time tomorrow.

My dad died of congestive heart failure. Essentially his organs filled with fluid that his kidneys couldnt cope with, pulmonary edema.
Maybe I'll have Pullman-ary edema?

I recall some times when Diners decided ahead of time who would open the new month. individuals would volunteer to do it before the month started. Not many would volunteer and it was easy to decide. Volunteers could easily agree to take turns.
Then there would be no surprises.

Bear, I have been thinking it is Saturday all day today. The thought of getting older scares me if I am a day ahead at 61.
Steven, you are now the concierge of this months tour and I see we pass by the Mississippi, so I would like to take a side trip and go on a cruise up said river for 3-5 nights on an old steam paddle wheeler so please arrange it.
I always consider September 1, the beginning of fall and the leaves are well on their way this year in my neck of the woods. So in addition to RR pic's of the surrounding territory we are currently in, may I suggest members post their favourite fall railroad photo's to boost up the photo count in the diner. After all, we all love photos.
I will start. Many years back one of our forum members posted a fall photo he took in the Canadian Rockies near Banff. His name is Matthew Hicks and is a Professional Photographer. I scooped it off the forum and make it my computer wallpaper every fall. Matthew has awesome rail picks on the internet that are just stunning so check them out.

I don't remember much Alaska crap either. I remember a little.
Remember on Ulrich's birthday in Alaska when we all went out to get some air. He went out the second floor balcony and warned us Lookout Lookout polar bear. And we all got our asses back inside before the polar bear ate one of us.

Evening All! (at least in my neck of the woods.)
Ordered a few more parts. (Coach floor and a smokestack.)
Planning to play on the new layout on Monday. (My normal dinner spot is closed so I will probably end up ordering a pizza.) For once, I don't have to worry about what time it is. Got the templates for cutting the yard road and probably will get the passenger platform expansion almost finished as well. (I still need to get one more platform package to have enough Atlas benches. I set up the benches back to back for the tourist road and will reuse the platforms.)

Perfect I think that's your secret. We all need to learn to relax. That is what I am learning to do with the help of my dear sweet Judy.
Not so much anymore because I've mellowed out. She was telling me for years you need to settle down and breathe baby or you will have a heart attack before your 60.
I did listen to my Judy. I don't throw the first stone anymore. Nobody throws a stone at me. My blood pressure is way down. I think I'm finally starting to tame down my high strung tendencies and I must say I'm liking this calm life better
PS I still do on occasion erupt a little bit Thats the Scot in me. It never goes completely away.
I'm tired this morning. I wish I didn't have to go to work. Saturdays are usually elective.... not today. When I tell someone I'm coming to work the day before that's what I do.
I just remembered I have to put my new plates on my truck this morning. They are due today. The funny thing is I've had them for two weeks, I never got around to it . I heard there's no more grace period. When they're expired they're expired and that's it.
