Flo, gang and I will have a and give Ulrich, Rick and Steven what they want.
Still felt today. Spent most of the day laying in bed with the wife and Sparkie watching DYI shows on remolding houses. Why would some one spend $800,000 on a house and not have a house inspection done? OK, it is a TV show so they had to add some drama.
Daughter brought over some over the counter iteams that help's her with breathing problems. Sharon has asthma and get's Bronchitis a lot. She had a bad cases of Bronchitis when Sue had her knee replaced and is still fighing it off and on. More than likely I caught what ever I have from her and not the cleaning I had been doing.

I suggest people board an L&N train or a SOU train from KY or TN origins. They can ride to Cincinnati, and then ride connecting trains to New England.
I'll be on the L&N Hummingbird to Cincy..... From there, PRR, NYC, or B&O will get me started to a northern city with a conecting train to New England.

Good Afternoon,
A sunny, cool day here as in about 40F with a cold NW wind. I did manage to mow the front lawn which will likely be the last time.
This morning I went to the annual train show. I didn't buy anything but did enjoy looking and talking to a couple of guys I know. Generally prices were way too high for a lot of stuff I would put in give away category. I did come across a NIB PK2 SW8 in CN colours but it was DC and I just sold off a similar unit. If it had been a S4 I would have purchased it as I still would like one of those for the layout. I have decided to sell off a couple more of my N scale locos, a MP Pacific and an Intermountain F7. If I had the B unit I would keep the F7 but I don't so out it goes. I'll be down to 8 locos on that layout.

Well time for tea and I think I'll run a train. I have a little work train made up behind the Hog( CN jargon for a Consolidation).

I've been in the back just listening in for the last couple days. Been way to busy with some other stuff to have time to post.
Well, Ulrich, how many million were you short to buy the Log Cabin out in the country?????
Just got back in from the garden. Picked a couple nice eggplants, about a half dozen green peppers, and a hand full of string beans to take over to my son's house when I go for dinner tonight. Have started to clean house to have it somewhat presentable for when an old college buddy and his wife stop in this Friday afternoon. We will be heading out to a fancy and pricey local restaurant (Bellhearst Castle) for dinner. I hope I can have a train running on the layout for them as well as have some good time talking about our lives and old times at Eastman.
I have also been trying to get the obituary ready to put in the Canandaigua paper for my Sister. The one sent from her family isn't really that long but has mostly content about her church work over the years. My sister (the other one who ... shall I say, is not big on organized anything) wants most of that cut. Actually for the paper up here where there will be maybe 3 or 4 people who will read it and remember Jan, she is probably right that not everything needs to be in it. That will also save us a couple hundred dollars as the Canandaigua paper wants around $14 per line and $50 for a photo for the obit. That would have been somewhere around $400 to $500 to get it in the paper. We decided not to add a photo and with the cuts, I hope it will only be around $250....
Oh last Friday evening was the 37th. Annual Dinner of the local NAACP. I became a member about the time of the 7th. dinner I think.... Well this year I was going to sit with a lady who lives a couple blocks from my house who is a member of the MLK Committee because I didn't see a table reserved for us. Just as the dinner was about to be called to order, my former minister, his wife, and a couple other MLK Committee members started waving their hands and insisting I come down near the front and sit with them. I begrudgingly obeyed, had a nice chicken dinner and good chat. During the begining of the awards part of the program, the local president of the NAACP said something about someone who has been a long term officer of the MLK, announced my name and had me come up. I was given a nice "Appreciation Award" for significant contribution to the Mission of the NAACP. I guess I found out why they wanted me near the front....... It is nice to be recognized for work I try to do in the background of organizations that help people........ It is also great to see many good folks that have been my friends for years that I don't see nearly often enough!
Yesterday I picked up my replacement 3 piece suit and wore it to church today. Fits and looks great on me! The 2 piece one may be ready by the end of the week. If it is ready by Thursday I will try to pick it up and then decide which one I want to wear to the reunion on Saturday.
My problem with "girls"....

The sun is slowly setting. It´s just 6.30pm here and it will be pitch black in only 30 min. from now. By Christmas, we will be down to 3.30pm for the sun to set. I guess I will never get used to that.

Timmy ... I meant to acknowledge your post about the ET&WNC .... Interesitng little railroad...... Someone once said they needed larger wheels on on side of the train ath on the other as they went around big, steep hills.
Guess who is going to the twilight zone? I am going to be spending the night, in separate bedrooms, with a woman that was a resident with me 38 years ago. I'm traveling to SC and she is about 1/2 way there in NC. And my wife knows about it.
Sunny and I were married to different people and there was never any romantic interest on either of our parts. We hadn't seen each other or spoken up until a couple years ago, when she posted on another resident's facebook page. Since then she moved from CA to NC.
I spent all my career working with women. Some were friends, some were only friendly. In an age when people are eager to be offended, that led to some problems. When you go from married to single, it's a bit disconcerting to be told you are just like a brother by your friends that you thought were smoking hot.
At the time, there was never more than two or three male nurses. Some of my partners were women and some of the surgeons were women. There is a definite comradarie among among people in the same profession.
One way or the other somebody will start the new month in the diner, tomorrow.

We were boating yesterday afternoon and evening on the neighbors boat. I think he has the fastest pontoon boat on the lake. It has two 400 HP outboard engines and can go up to 70 mph which he did. We went to the north end of the lake where the dam is located, and we stopped for food at a marina on the way.
Ulrich .... I would agree to do all New England states so there is plenty to talk about.

Jeepers - it´s Sunday and I missed my big Sunday breakfast! It´s too late for that, as Petra is getting our lunch ready! It´ll be meatloaf with gravy, mushrooms and funny curly noodles. And puddin´ for dessert!
Still a nice and crisp day, but our weather is expected to change tomorrow. I was hoping for a "Golden October", but I guess I have to revise my expectations.
Who´ll be opening the Diner tomoorow morning? It´s not going to be me, as I have to head off early for some paperwork with the authorities. Got to be there early to have a chance to be out again early. I hate waiting!
Thanks, Steven O. for reminding us that we already had settled for the New England states, i.e. Vermont and New Hampshire, for the month of October. That´s a part of the US I have never been to. In fact, the only places in the East I was able to visit were New York (what else?) and Philadelphia. I am eager to learn a little bit about that region. Anybody volunteering to be our host?
I am still feeling a little uprooted by my "foster mom´s" passing. I made an entry in the guest book, hoping to revive the coonection with her children.

My dad (Navigator/Bomber in WWII) said that after Glenn Miller died there was a rumour that his real name was actually Glenn Mueller and that he was a German spy. The rumour also had it that he never did die in a plane crash in the English Channel and instead flew to Germany. Who knows? I do know that my dad believed the rumour because I bought him a Glenn Miller recording and he wouldn't play it.
Please let's not start a fire fight over this. It was only a rumour.

Gary That sure brought back some memories. I was at look out moutain in 1968. Dad had just bought the (now mine) 1968 Plymouth Road Runner and took the family to Look Out Mountain. Sure does not look like the tram we took up, but I was 12 at the time.
Under the weather badly today. Bought some over the counter meds to help clear the head and lungs. If that does not do the trick I am off to the VA Hosptial Monday.

First BBQ on the river I have missed in a while. usually we go for lunch on Friday from work, but I was out of town this year.

MLC .... We were in Paducah last evening with neighbors for the annual riverside BBQ. ... Lots of good food ! ... Pulled pork sandwach at Patti's pavillion. .... Then deep fired Oreo cookies.... And cheesecake on a stick .... Great bands with very loud, huge speakers.
While we are still in TN and KY , we must talk about Chattanooga. A great railrod town .... This would be great location for a vacation.
Incline Railway to top of Lookout Mountain.
Tennessee Valley Railway Museum .... Lots of historic locomotives and rolling stock. ... Steam and diesel .... Scenic train rides....
The Chattannooga Choo Choo Hotel .... This is a premium hotel built inside a large early 20th century railroad terminal. Some of the rooms are built inside nemerous old sleeping cars on tracks behind the terminal building.
There is a large HO model railroad behind the hotel open to the public .
NMRA Headquarters are in Chattanooga.
