Evening gang think I may have time for another tea looks like my corner booth from years ago has had it's cobwebs removed.

Batman- Yikes yes lightening strikes are not to be triflled with. Amazing the interesting paths they will take to get to ground , that bang must have scared the pants off your sister and her family. Lucky for us today there was no rain or lightning just overcast the entire time we were open. Rain started to fall just as we were putting the  cars to bed in the barns after closeSigh

Gary- Your welcome that scenery wiork really is top notch. Is that a commercial product , or your own wizards blend of Mcgyvering household products into very nice looking water ?

Anyhow I think I'll grab another tea and settle myself into my booth with a stack of oold MR's

 Evening Folks

Flo, Inch, Brent, Ed and I will have a Beer and If Jan make it in give him one as well.

Pretty Boring Day. Only semi good thing I broke down and bought some new dress slacks. Wife gave me a flyer for www.haband.com offering $12.00 a pair if you bought 2 sets. Wife says there a good brand and sure need new slacks and she knows about clothes! Whistling Bet mine are 8 years old or so. Long story made short they would not honor the flyer price of $12.00 a pair but $15.00 each what the heck! I thing the Fat And Tall Shop was $65.00 each last time I checked.

Thank's for all the concern about my wife Health! Henry I get the lawn comment. It is not the first time she had a strange EKG last one was 5 years ago.

Ed If you think of me as Ralph Kramden does that make you Ed Norton ?Smile, Wink & Grin

Gary Boy that is some good work in the photo!

Rick Good to see drop by the dinner!

 Trains are running great!

Just a coffee and toast today Flo. I have lots of work to do.

Major work in the basement starts today. Cleaning out over 30 years of 'stuff' to make room for a major model railroad project. Going to try and leave my Pidgeon Creek R&D layout up as long as I can but it will eventually have to be disassembled to move big items out like spare beds and old furniture.

Taking apart over 100 old rail cars and locomotives for parts, and recycling/trashing all the train packaging to make room on shelves for other items. Over 50 done to date. I will not be selling any of my train stuff so I don't need the packaging, although, I am cutting off the labels that identify the manufacturers and car/locomotive IDs for my permanent roster.

I do need to buy a rail cutter at the hobby shop today. I have a lot of old brass rail to take apart/cut which I will be using for bridges, crane rails, and other civil engineering structures.

Have a great day everyone. DJ

Rob .... "Mcgyvering" is probably a good word for it. I may post a thread to explain what I did if I get a chance. Thanks for commenting.

Ken .. Thanks for your remaarkas about my photo.

I will be a little busy in next few days, and I may not get much done on the scenery project.

Morning all.  I'll take a raincoat and some wading boots.

I got hit by the Nor'easter that is affecting the whole northeast this morning.  It's supposed to stop this morning and become sunny...but this will take awhile to dry out and drop.

See those poles? There is supposed to be a two lane paved asphalt road next to them.  I'm okay, and no flooding in my basement, but I still have to get to work today...so it'll be fun to try to find a detour around this.

Good morning from the "Burgh" It was still raining when I got up this morning, so I decided to change up our schedule this weekend & go railfanning tomorrow instead of today. Last Saturday it rained while we were railfanning & I didn't enjoy it too much. Seems like the rain really does bother the arthritis I've developed in my knee of late.

Lots of flooding around south western PA, like in Jimmy's area, but not where I live. If it floods here in my neighborhood, it's the end time.

Glad to see Batman is still reporting on his son's adventures. I'm going to miss them when the kid goes to school. Maybe he will find something else to get involved in there, who knows.

I recently bought a new car, & yesterday signed the papers to refiance it. I didn't do my "due diligence" when I bought the thing, mainly because it was sort of an impulse buy. Anyway, I'm going to save about 1.55% on my APR. Quite a savings over the term of the loan. To be honest, most of the new cars I've bought over the years were spur of the moment. Not the best way to go I suppose, but at the same time, I've always ended up with vehicles I really like, & have gotten more good deals than bad ones.

Will let you know how the railfanning thing works out tomorrow. Stay safe & have a great weekend.

I did get to Gulliver's Gate yesterday.  I loved looking at all the models and looking at the different techniques.  I noticed that a few trains in the Europe and far east exhibits each had a CN boxcar, even passenger trains.  I asked about it and was directed to their "train guy," who spoke with me for quite a while and gave me some insider views of the project.  The CN cars, by the way, are track cleaning cars.  Some day, he said, he'd get around to repainting them, but for now he just wanted to keep the track clean.

Good Saturday afternoon to one and all. Had a weird thing happen on my Marklin Z controller yesterday. I was running the loco when it suddenly stopped w*rking. Testing voltage on the wires exiting the output terminals – no more than 1.2v at max! Testing the terminals themselves,  - normal voltage range! No shorts on the track, no loco on the track. This morning I rigged up a 6 volt battery to the wires which usually fit in the controller terminals and ran the loco at that fixed voltage very satisfactorily. So it’s not the layout wiring. Cut off the old ends of those wires and stripped fresh ends. Replaced in the controller, and happy to report – we are back in business. I was running the loco yesterday in preparation for a video I want to make to show how the newly painted and decorated loco looks. Maybe today there will be time to get to that.  Right now it’s lunch – and then some gardening chores. BTW, in case anyone is wondering, the gravel path to the veggie garden ( a chore a day or three ago)  wasn’t a major effort, as it’s very short – alongside the garage. This view is from the kitchen window – and the fly screen was still in place!
Before this gets to be too far behind the times…

I know I’m tardy to the party on this, but Johnboy says it for me. I figure if folks get bored with whatever I ramble on about in my posts, they can easily jusy scroll on down to something more to their liking. I find that I learn a ton of stuff in this Diner because there are so many interesting people and life experiences we share here – all wrapped around a common interest in mmr and related trains of thought.

Richard- You're right majority of it would have fell. Since we ordered in the mid evening with the storm approaches and left over heat.

Mr B.- Its good to heard you're having fun at the miniature railroad exhibition.

Jimmy- I'm glad the water didn't ruins your trains.

YGW- I know you want me to write a PM but I'm a having difficulty writing on how to get started. But you shouldn't worry to much. I have a brother and sister that both w*rk.

I just signed up to imgur, I had some problems but I'm learning.

Murray went to the vet yesterday for his annual check up, with heartworm, teeth cleaning. Later on we found out he chipped his tooth. My thought on it was grabbing tree bark trying to eat lizards. Majority of the bark he forces it because it's so hard.

Hard days work in the basement today. Cut up over 30 old rolling stock for parts, recycled over 100 loco and rolling stock boxes, put all of the Pidgeon Creek locos and rolling stock on the shelves (which had to be emptied first), bought a rail cutter and cut up lots of track for bare rails, and disconnected the power supplies and stored six of them on the shelf.

All that remains to do with the Pidgeon Creek layout is make an archival drawing, remove the tracks, store the grass mats and foam, then fold the four tables. Just took Tylenol for back pain but if I feel better in an hour or two, will work on the drawing.

Also need to practise some ukulele tunes before the night's out. Beagle sleeping beside me all warm and cuddly, husky sleeping on the floor next to me, and a fan is blowing a gentle breeze my way. Reading old 60s articles in RMC by E.L. Moore - learning from one of the best. Love his molasses mine and factory! It's all good. DJ

Hey Gang.

Ulrich- I was was saddened to hear about those attacks ,prayers for the country as a whole this senselessness needs to be stopped.

Gary- Yes I literally have a thousand shots of stuff still on photobucket, guess I will dust of rail images or some such. Right now my scanner is shot so other than individually removing each shot to my hard drivefrom photobucket, and re-upploading somewhere else it will be a chore. I kind of wish MR would install the shoftware like facebook has, that lets you share direct here from your computer files without having to use a third party. I realize that that is likely out of MRs budget however.

I wonder if Der has a new garden railway at theh end of his gravel path ,and he is leading us down it to help him build and weed it.Mischief

Hi Flo. Just dropped in for a Sunday milkshake. Strawberry flavour. If the boss ever needs a substitute cook, give me a call. Just seared the beef and put the pot roast in the slow cooker. My wife told me not to be eating at restaurants everyday that she's away in Calgary.

Afternoon gents!

Mmmmmm!  OldSchool, that pot roast looks delicious!  Only thing I would add is a couple crushed garlic cloves and about a dozen small onions fresh from the garden......

Speaking of onions, it looks like my onions are going to be quite big this year.  I got them in fairly early and the growing season has been wet and perfect for them.  Radishes and garden lettuce are about played out for now.  I'll put in fall crop in late September of them.  The zucchini is now coming in.  I will be picking the first couple out there tonight or tomorrow.  Actually had a couple snow pea pods from the garden in a salad a couple days ago.  A couple that the blasted rabbit missed I guess.

Speaking of the rabbit......  Haven't seen her around for a few days.  But.....  her 3 little half grown bunnies are hiding in my yard and the neighbors yard....  Yep...  next generation has fledged the nest.  Their dog probably thinks they are cute and should just be watched when he is out.....

Got an email from my sister, the Reverand, last night thanking me for sending her a birthday card (she turns 78 tomorrow) and some $$$ to be used for her pain patch meds that is only partially covered by her insurance.  She also told me that her doctor has taken her off the chemo she has been using for the last 3 years to control her stage 4 cancers.  Treatment is no longer working.  They have stopped all treatment for the next 3 months to let her body recover before deciding what comes next....  Her Doc hopes to put her on a pill form of chemo that may still work for her if she can tolerate it.  For the moment she is getting home hospice care a few times a week.  The good news is that she is able to continue all the work and activities she has somehow managed to do during all of this.  She says, "Life is still pretty much the same."  She manages to be able to walk short distances using a walker, but is otherwise confined to a wheelchair.

She is a Deacon in the Episcopal tradition and is named Janice if any of you feel like adding her to your prayers.........

The sun has come out today for a change!  I got my weekly grocery shopping done and now have to get a start cleaning my house this week.  My son from Chicago (the neatnik!) is coming this way for a week (starting one week from today) to be here for my oldest Granddaughter's very late 10th. birthday and hang around with family for a while.  I don't want him to be completely grossed out by the state of filth in my house.  I do tell people I am not the world's best housekeeper, and really don't care........

Have a great one our there!

Howmus: Just added the garlic cloves for you. Should have picked up an onion today - next time. Great additions. DJ

Found some onion powder in my spice collection - I'll add a little. There is also a pot roast mixture in there that is making the whole house smell great. Dogs sometimes walk around the kitchen sniffing the air!

Good Evening,

A hot one today here at least for us it is with a temp of 90F and a humidex of 101F. It is supposed to cool off a little later in the week but will still be nice summer weather.

I had a lot of plans to do stuff outside today but they were shelved due to the heat. You might think I would just go downstairs and run trains but frankly it is too cold down there especially in the furnace room where my workbench is located. I hate to say it but as crazy as it sounds, we turn on the gas fire place to take the chill off so we can watch TV comfortably.

No plans for this week. Sometimes I actually miss work.

Time to go downstairs to watch Grantchester on PBS.

We got in a couple of hours railfanning this morning & was rewarded with catching 12 trains. 5 intermodal, 4 mixed freights, 1 coal, 1 coke & 2 SD80MACs switching out a transload facility behind us on the Ohio River with hoppers of aggregate.

In the mix was the Norfolk Southern's "Reading" heritage unit & 2 BNSF showed up as foreign power. Kind of surprising that on such a nice day there were no other railfans out & about around us.

It's going to be a busy week from the looks of things. Shopping & other errands tomorrow, an appointment with my Doctor on Tuesday, and a diabetic education appointment on Wednesday which is expected to be about 2 and a half hours in duration. Will meet with a physician for the 1st phase, & then with 3 other phases with different folks to follow that. Hope it's not a waste of time. Personally, I'm not convinced that my numbers at age 77 should be the same as some other male who is in his twenties. But my PCP wants me to do this, so I will make him happy and attend.

My nephew & his family from South Carolina, & my niece & her family from Harrisburg will be in town at the end of the week, so we will probably get together with all of tham at some point. Will enjoy that.

Have a good week...

By coincidence, my girlfriend and I visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York today.  It is a moving experience, but I am afraid it's significance to those visiting is already fading, as younger people take the places of those of us who have vivid adult memories of that day.  We walked around both pools looking at every name.  We sat and cried over the needless loss of life of thousands of Innocent victims whose only fault was going to work that day.

It is a moving and sad monument.  If you are in New York City, take some time to visit.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
