I'm Sure that Cousin Vinnie will be arriving to "clean up" soon, and that should take care of the problem for the moment.

The problem has been, as you said, cleaned up.

Ditto!

I guess I overstepped my bounds with my response so I apologize.

Spent more time at the dog show this weekend than I normally do. Dog shows are about as exciting as watching paint dry as far as I am concerned. The socializing in the evening is always interesting though, there are some real hanger ons in the dog show world just as with anything. I returned to our camping spot that we paid big money forLaugh and as I pulled in was told by this obnoxious woman that I couldn't park there as it belonged to a good friend that was a big time breeder. I said "your good friend is my wife and I have never met you so can you please move your car out of our camping spot". When my wife returned she told me she hardly knew the person and had only talked to her on the phone once. The woman left in a hurry embarrassed about her snobbish misstep.

Not only have we been taking in a couple of kids recently, needing a break from their own homes, we have a dog that has been turned into a drug addict and has major behavioral issues. She is well on the road to recovery as she has been weaned off her meds and is acting like a real sweetheart. A little love goes a long way with dogs as well as people.

Got a PM from someone telling me to stop writing about the kid and his movie adventures, he said people were tired of hearing about it, so I apologize. I will give a mini account as we are excited for him and find it interesting how it all works. He started Deadpool 2 last week and worked three 19 hour days with 10 hours off in between the days. Pay was crap last week, but this week his category was changed and he went way back up. He also made enough days to join "ACTRA" which is the actors union so that will bump him up even more.

Happy Anniversary Ulrich and Petra If you are half as happy in marriage as I am you are lucky indeed. It has been great for me.

Thanks for the beers Ken, it will help get my blood pressure back down after the recent unpleasantries. The next two rounds (or "shouts", as they say in, Australia) are on me. Maybe some XXXXGOLD from OZ.Beer

Anyone gone on vacation yet this Summer? Too busy for us this year and I can hear the Rockies calling. Or is it the wife.Laugh

All the best to all.

No real vacation this year.  Not in the cards.  We have had a couple of mini trips centered around kid activities (football games, volleyball matches, and an ACL surgery) and work (NYC & Orlando) but nothing that was pure fun.  Maybe next year...

Brent - I like reading about your son's work/success.  It is different, and interesting.

Love reading all the comments at the Diner! Pianos, dogs, weather, old Atlas kits (nice price) and more! Spent lots of time working on Stage 2 of Pidgeon Creek. I need to buy three more turnouts to complete the lower level. It's a nice size for the temporary space I have in the basement.

September issue of Model Railroader in my mailbox this afternoon. Nice articles on hoppers, trailer homes, and natural rock and soil in scenery - very relevant to my current projects. Hey wait, I'm not the only one using natural materials in my layouts - awesome!

Brent, I don't mind hearing about your son's escapades. Though if it's bothering someone here, I guess you should keep them short. But I'd love to hear what parts he's playing, as soon as the production has advanced to the stage where he's allowed to say. Particularly in Deadpool 2, as I'm sure to see that on opening weekend.

Good Afternoon,

A very sunny, warm day here and it is supposed to stay that way for the next week.

Had some friends over for dinner last night. I did BBQ salmon and have to say it turned out great. Salmon sure is getting expensive compared to a couple of years ago but it sure tastes great especially after spending a few hours in a marinade.

I actually ran a train the other day. The Pacific with a couple of passenger cars for a 'beach' train. It is sitting on the harbour spur while the passengers go to the beach. I guess I'm trying to re-create my summers when I was 10 or so. My parents rented a cottage for a month at Victoria Beach on Lake Winnipeg. In '57 CN still ran daily passenger trains there pulled by a Pacific. The train came in at noon and many people would go down to the station just for something to do. As it was the end of the line they turned the whole train on a wye and would let kids pile into a couple of the cars for a ride while they did the turn. Can't imagine that happening now. It was also popular to put a penny under one of the drive wheels to see how flat it would get.

Jim, glad to hear you had a good time on your trip to England. I'm partial to lamb myself but I know that many people aren't. I grew up eating it as my Dad, while born here, might as well have been English. My Grand Parents certainly were. Nothing like a nice lamb chop with mint sauce, yum. I like English beer and ale too. I find that they have far less carbonation than domestic brews and I prefer it that way.

Well soon time to fire up the BBQ again today as my MIL is over for dinner tonight.

FWIW, I haven't gotten tired of reading the reports. I find the inner workings of the TV/movie industry fascinating. I remember making a call on Sony Columbia a few years back and they were talking about the challenge of moving data. Since a fair amount of the filming has moved to Canada, but the editting and production was still in California, they were struggling with how to send all of the digital footage to CA overnight. At the time, the time to upload and download took longer that the night-time hours. The solution: Put it all on hard drives and use FedEx to get it there over night. FedEx was the biggest pipe for the data. Amazing.

Well, that seems pretty rude. And in the Diner of all places where people talk about their illnesses, their financial misfortunes, whatever. So to tell you, Brent, to cut it short, that people are tired of hearing about it, really boggles the mind. Our apologies to you should be the order of the day.

Batman - I sincerely hope you just ignore the message you got. I really enjoy reading about your son's adventures, because at his age, that's what it is, an adventure. Vey few people get the kind of opportunities he does, so maybe somebody is just jealous. Don't let one message spoil things for the rest of us.

Ray - I'm older than you, but I guess we are old school when it comes to removing shoes in the house. I don't know exactly when this began, seems to have just snuck in at some point in time. We don't remove our shoes at home, never have, & probably never will. I've often said my house is for living, not for display.

Brent Sure was not from me! He is living a dream life that most of us wish we had! Far as I am conern post on about his movie stuff, I enjoy reading about! Yes

Felt like stuff all day.Sigh There are so many things I wanted to do today! I really hope I can feel like doing things again, I am sick of feeling bad.

Steve Where knuckels just Cracked With A Ruler or was the person Banished? Yea there are things going on in the USA I'am not happy about but I know this not the places.

Train Front Enjoying the layout the way it was built. In stead of using only two lines I am using it as 3. K-10 Mining is its own 9.5 foot by 5 foot line that is joined to my main line. I am so glad I finally got the remote turnouts working! Earlier tonight I was was running the layout like a old Lionel layout from when I was a kid!

For over 8 years now, I have had the honor of being a regular in this place. I have always found it entertaining, but also a place of togetherness and friendship. I have seen people come and go, some dear friends passed away, others simply moved on. It has always been a joy to come here, to interact with friends, to share the day with its grief, sorrow or joy.

Today, I find this place changed and, I am afraid, not to the better. I read about complaints to the Admin. team, I find posts deleted or changed. I can´t say I like that. The old communal spirit that has united the folks in here for many a year, has left the place.

Maybe I have come to this place for too long a time already, so it´s time to stand up, take my hat and leave.

Good afternoon, everybody.

I was in Nashville today for medical appointments. It was follow up with the heart surgeon and I am pleased all is okay in the months since my most recent surgery.

On the way there, my truck blew a rear tire. It was bad enough so it even did some damage to the rear fender. I'm okay, and I am thankful to the Sherriff's Deputy of Montgomery County, Tennessee who helped me change the tire in hot weather.

Apparently, I missed out on stuff here, but I am thankful to Steven who keeps a lid on things here in the Forum.

Brent.... The Kid's adventures are interesting.

Ulrich ... I think of you as a very close friend. You are as much a part of the Diner as anyone. Again, Happy Anniversary to you and Petra.

Happy Model Railroading !  Big Smile

– does “observer effect” explain why gremlins turn up whenever visitors come to our layouts? Nice to be able to blame physics rather than sloppy modeling! [whistle]

Physics underlies everything. You can say to visitors with certainty that your train derailment is simply the locomotive and rolling stock trying to minimize their potential energies (that's why rivers wind).

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could use a refil for the decaf, please...  Thank you Ma'am!

Hey Ulrich!  Put your hat back on the rack and sit down....  Nothing has really changed in here and we still have the best bunch of guys in cyberspace right here in the diner!!!  Just every once in a while some people have to be reminded of what is the "polite" way to treat each other.  That's all.

Brent, as I said in my PM, I for one (and already I see there are others) love to hear about the goings on of your family!  Very cool to have a kid doing those things!!!

Hi Tom,  I can certainly say that no one would ever accuse me of having a "display" house....  Every few months I kinda shovel out the dirt, run the vacuum, sweep the kitchen floor, and more or less (mostly less) mop up.  Being a good housekeeper ain't high on my list of important things to do.... Whistling

District Committee was a training session on recruitment for Cub Scouts.  Lots of great ideas and materials available for units for this fall.  After the fairly short meeting I got talkng with the District Commissioner (my boss so to speak) about the Volt.  He wanted to know how I liked it compared to the Plug in Prius I had.  I finally said I'll show you some things when we leave.  He said he was interested.  Got out to the car and I said, Get in!  I'll give you a ride around the parking lot.  He did, so I pulled forward to the straight drive out to the road (about 50 yards), told him to hold on and floored it, burning rubber and tossing him back in the seat big time.  I won't say his exact words (the first one was "Holy"), but the expression on his face was priceless!  After that he had a lot of questions about cost, maintainance, and other stuff.  Yep it is a whole lot more car than the prius was.....  I also told him it would not be for everyone's way of life, but works perfectly for me.

My prayers and thoiughts for all in need!

Hey guys n gals quick coffee for me and whatever anyone else wants for them.

Busy day at the museum today had three large summer camp groups gave the rolling stock a good work out today. At one point we had both of our Witts and two PCC's running pretty much nose to tail keeping the crowds of kids and regular visitors moving. At one point we almost opted to get the track plow out as well as her open deck can accomadate a fair number of standees, but one of the not infrequent rainstorms that have palgued Southern Ontario kept her in the barn. Noi one likes getting soaked to the skin anymore apparently. Whistling

Gary- Wonderfull shots of the Mountainneer, certainly it is on our "bucket list" We were luckey enough to get on the Chaleur out to Gaspe twice in it's last year of operations ( was a nice overnighter using all Budd cars ) VIA has said that if the Gaspe region and the province of Quebec repair the line ( the region owns the entire ROW now ) that they will happily put the Gaspe train back on the schedule, but they won't do it until the ROW is upgraded to safe spec. We have doen the Ocean to Halifax twice as well and it is a wonderfull run ( Montreal to Halifax ) though in our case we take it right from our home here in Brantford ( 6 hour son the corridor before we get to Montreal and pick up the Ocean

Ulrich- A late congrats on your 33rd,and don't sweat the small stuff we would be sad to see you hang them up here.

Mr B - You have a great sense for music Stan Rodgers was a great singer songwriter who sadly passed before his time and quite heroically from what I understand. He apparently survived the crash but went back in to help others and died saving them. I always prefered his version of North West passage and Barretts Privateers.

Old school -  I love that old Church kit found one at a local trainshow several years back and it  with some detailing and changes ( grandt line windows the kit ones are a tad thick for my taste )graces one of the whistle stops on my layout.

Anyhow gang must toddle off just recieved a Trueline CN wood trannsfer caboose from a semi local hoibby shop and must let it strut its stuff behind a GMD1.

Hello again

Rob....  Your train travels and your museum activities sound interesting. Tell more if you want. .. I did ride the CN trains from Windsor to Toronto and Montreal before VIA.  At the time, I worked in Detroit for CN/GTW. .. I rode the Ocean in 2001 which is a story I can tell when I have more time.

Hello Railfans!

Gather round please, the sassparillas are on me! Pour a couple extra for Ken... I owe him a few!

The good news is today I became a brass owner for the first time ever. Caught a good deal on a wooden caboose. Some irony here, I always thought if I ever bought a piece of brass it would be a locomotive.

Gave serious thought to a PM 2-8-4 brass release back in the '80s. Didnt happen. Truth be known I just never considered being a brass owner. Starting out as a kid you just dont go right into brass. Rivarossi, Athearn and Atlas were alright by me.

Now that my waistline is bigger than my clothesline, and I have a very nice roster of plastic, why not I thought. After all, OOoooooone wont hurt will it?

So today i get to add another notch to my cane, scratch one off the bucket list, enter another level of Model Railroading. 40 ought years on now and i am still reaching new firsts.

Bottoms up folks!

Good Evening, Folks!

Flo, if the bar is still open I think I'd like a cool, refreshing mojito— just a few extra mint leaves floating on top, please...

I also enjoy hearing about your son'e escapades, Brent. In a way, what we are writing here is almost an autobiography. The internet will be around forever* and maybe someday your son will be reading the archived stories you have written here and know that his dad was mighty proud of him.

* I believe Google still copies everything on the web, if not the wayback archive?

Parents deserve to brag about their children's accomplishments now and then. When my boys are finally paroled, I'll be writing good things about them, too!

Hi, Old School— I believe it falls into the category of "someday I'll be building the layout of my dreams" and the dreamer begins to stockpile. Especially today, many kits and RTR models are very short runs so the thought is, get it now or it will be unobtainable in the future.

I'm guilty of buying many more structures than I would ever have space for on my layout. Someday, my kids will be schlepping them on Ebay, along with all my other tchotchke, too.

Ditto! Big Smile  Yes Should have done it years ago Whistling

Garry, Glad you were able to maintain control. Blowouts seem to be fairly rare these days. Did something puncture your sidewall?

I rember riding with my dad on a trip to see the Rio Grande narrow gauge in Durango back in 1966. We were just in sight of Denver when a rear tire blew. My dad had bought brand new tires for the trip and the guy that mounted them tossed the old valve stems INSIDE the tire, at least that's where they wound up, and they wore through and cut the tire into two identical halves! Boy, was my dad fuming! Another tire went the same way the next day!

Ulrich! Please stick around. I'm sure it is tough to ward off the gloomy feelings—been there myself—but I enjoy your contributions very much Smile

Modeling Front...

Some of you are aware of the large Post Office building that I have been working  enjoying the construction of. It has finally been placed on the layout, hopefully for the long-term! I'll get some photos as soon as I have the lights wired.

Now that the w**k bench is cleared I was looking for the next project. And lo- here she is!

I already made modifications to the coal bunker to fit the decoder in, used an ultrasonic cleaner to remove the old varnish. Tonight she gets DGLE (Brunswick Green) and tomorrow a graphite smokebox and oxide red roof. I also have a "Coast-to-Coast" PRR tender that will be getting painted, too.

I like jumping around to a variety of projects to keep things interesting...

I hope everyone is safe and well today.

Happy Modeling!

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have a cup of Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Lion:  that guy in the subway in Chicago should've known that would happen.  I hope he was ok.  He should've just stayed on and got off at the next stop where he could've just walked to the other side, got on going backd, and got off where he originally wanted.  No muss, no fuss, and no bruises.  Unless,.....he was malefactor up to no good and trying to make a getaway.

Garry:  Thanks for the photos of Banff.  Looks beautiful.  I will be in Banff in a couple of months.  Your photos only make me look forward to the trip with enthusiasm.

Ulrich:  belated happy 33rd anniversary!  And many happy more.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

BATMAN
Got a PM from someone telling me to stop writing about the kid and his movie adventures, he said people were tired of hearing about it,

Hi Brent:

So why is he still reading your posts? I think the vast majority of forum members really enjoy hearing about your son's success. You are a proud parent, and you have every right to express it. I'm glad you didn't back down! Maybe your son will be the next Brad Pitt (without the divorce and the booze) and we will all be able to look back and say we knew his father.

Just to rub salt in the curmudgeon's wounds, we are very proud of our son too. He is doing exactly what he set out to do career wise and he is advancing faster than usual in his profession. He has a wonderful girlfriend, and he owns his own home. He is 27.

Dianne and I may feel the importance of our child succeeding a bit more than others because we lost our first son in 2005. He was 18, and he had his future well planned. Right after High School, he landed a good full time job with infinite opportunities for advancement. He had told us from the time that he was a toddler that he wanted to own a Porsche. His first car was a Porsche.

Congratulations as well on helping some kids in need.

Cheers!!!

Gidday Chloe, this talk of lamb chops and mint sauce has got my mouth watering though as a former farm boy, I do prefer the more developed taste of hogget, a sheep aged between 1 and 2 years. So, dig in chaps.

.... I became a brass owner for the first time ever. Caught a good deal on a wooden caboose.
Sorry Douglas, I’m afraid the imagery the English language threw up in this case tickled my funny bone. I hope you luxuriate in the joy of your new purchase!

I too Brent, don’t mind hearing the exploits of the young bloke, good on him, I don’t know how a university education is funded in Canada, but I presume it isn’t cheap, plus the whole new experience for him. Nothing wrong being a proud parent either. My daughter has just won the second part of a two part scholarship, and while she doesn’t see the money, in effect one years’ worth of course subjects has been paid for.

Her-indoors and I are off over the hill to pick up the daughter then off up to the Big Smoke, Auckland, to see Steve Hackett in his one NZ performance.
I hope he plays this.

Howdy ..

Jim (UP) .... Glad you liked the photos and hope your upcoming trip to Banff is enjoyable.

Ed ... The tire lost all of its treads in this incident. I have 8 year old Michelin tires on the truck, and the budget has a new set planned for this Fall to be ready for Winter. I'll get some now. The truck does not get a lot of miles, and the tires had about 50,000 miles on them. It is an Avalanche, and the flying tire tread broke off a large vinyl panel from the lower rear fender. Since the incident, my cruise control stopped working and the turn signals are not flashing. .... The severe vibrations nearly caused me to lose control, but I kept my foot off of the brakes and rode it out on the shoulder until I stopped. ...... I like the brass switcher. If you don't want your photos to diplay all of the extra Flickr stuff, there is a way to post without it explined in the very long thread about alternatives to Photobucket.

Douglas.... Enjoy the aboose. Is it a PM caboose?.

Old School DJ ... Good to hear Luna is getting better.

Flo, give Inch, Brent, Ed, Steve, Jan and I a Beer please.

I'm not a drinking man, but a virtual Beer can't hurt anybody. Thanks!

Steve Where knuckels just Cracked With A Ruler or was the person Banished? Yea there are things going on in the USA I'am not happy about but I know this not the places.

Administrative matters concerning other users are not suitable topics for public discussion. And that's all I ever say about cases like this.
