Good morning
merry Christmas everyone. I hope everybody has a great holiday season. We are going to my parents for breakfast and presents with nieces and nephews then tonight wife's dads for dinner. will be back later on tonight
To my Diner friends,
I have only been visiting the Diner since September, and it has been a rewarding and enjoyable pastime to visit with you good folks and chew-the-fat and enjoy the "new millenium" version of the favorite passion of railroaders everywhere... to tell stories and share life's experiences both joyous and sad. For the most part I think we are ALL romantics in that we share a love of the past and, especially here in the Diner, aren't afraid to admit that our passion sometimes leads us into a world of fantasy and make-believe.
We may not want to accept what is going on outside our doorstep but at least we can, momentarily anyway, recreate the dreams and memories of some good experiences of days gone by...
Take time during the rush of the holidays to enjoy the things in life that really matter. Take in the serene moments spent with friends and loved ones, and may the wonder of Christmas surround you throughout the holiday season.
Thank you, too, to our hosts here at Model Railroader for providing this forum and for keeping an eye on us rabble-rousers to make sure we aren't straying too far off the main-line! (Or the mane-LION if that is your persuasion)
jlehnertEd - I like the pic of the cat. Looks contented up there.
Oh, yes, our cats are a contented bunch. Elsie The Cow could take lessons from them. Presently, I have one in my lap and two at my feet and one trying to catch the cord on the MOUSE as I try to type this
My blessings to you all for a safe, healthy and prosperous Holiday and coming New Year!
Sincerely, Ed
This is my LGB Train Set I bought sometime in 2001, It came with a Green Stainz 0-4-0 Steam Locomotive, a yellow working crane car, and an orange low sided gondola with a removable green truck. A power pack, connector cables, and 4 figures came with the set as well. The product number was 70402.
The Black Stainz was given to me by my grandpa in December 2003 as a christmas gift. The first passenger coach came in December 2006, the second one in January 2008, and the last one in January 2010. The mail car was purchased at a train show in Costa Mesa in January 2003.
I have another LGB Train which I will bring out sometime after christmas so stay tuned.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!!!
Hello everyone,
I'm sure many of you are ready for Christmas!!!
Speaking of Christmas, here are a few photos of my LGB train around the Christmas tree,
" width="403" height="324" />
It's almost Christmas day. I would like to wish all of my valued friends on the forums a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have gleaned so much valuable information from the forums that it is hard to express my gratitude to you all!
Thank you and Best Wishes to the Kalmbach crew too!
All the best for 2017.
Cheers!!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Ulrich:
Well done on helping to build the layout for your friend's grandson!
galaxyHOME DE-PoT is, as far as I know, hte only one who deals with Ryobi,
I believe that Ryobi is a Home Depot house brand, like Craftsman is to Sears.
Hi all!
Flo, I'll take a nice large milkshake and piece of pie.
ROR - good news about Scout
Ed - I like the pic of the cat. Looks contented up there.
Ulrich - you helped to create some priceless memories.
herrinchoker - been there, done that, pass
Wickman - I hear you brother. On 911 duty tonight, hour 13 of 24, then another 13 (+/-) Sunday night. I can't complain too much though, as today is volunteer duty.
Disappointing week train-wise. Collecting some Christmas cars, and for the third time in as many weeks, win an auction on feebay and then the seller contacts me to say that now they can't find the car. No problems getting refunded, but go to the effort, think I have it, and then disappointment. Bleh.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Good to see so many friends dropping in for the holidays! Merry Christmas to all! I will happily celebrate anyone's holidays, be they spiritual or simply social, so let me wish you the happiest of days however you choose to celebrate it.

RAY: RYOBI makes TWO kinds of battery operated lawn mowers....the 16" 18 volt One+, nad the 40 volt regular size mower. I am NOT sure if either is self-propelled if you are looking for that feature. I doubt the smaller 18 volt One+ is,but the bigger 40 volt battery one might be. Ryobi also has TWO One+ 18 volt batteries...the 2AmpHour one [smaller thinner in height and lighter weight} and the taller heavier 4 AMpHour battery for its ONE+ tools. The regular tools I have came with the 2 ah BATTERY {if the tool came wiht one..some are just the tool itself} and the BRAD NAILER came WIth the 4AH battery for example. If the mower doesn't come with the 18 volt LI ION battery too, GET THE more expensive 4 AMPHOUR battery, well worth it for such a workhorse. I know hte 40 VOLT mower DOESN"T COME WITH THE BATTERIES< sold separately!!!
HOME DE-PoT is, as far as I know, hte only one who deals with Ryobi, I know Lowes doesn't, nad I have NOT seen them at other Home cernters here, who may not be in your neck of the woods....
Other manufacturers are on the bandwagon, but as far as I know RYOBI has the MOST TOOL options!!!
I second and third, fourth adn fifth the motion TO CHECK OUT THE SYTEM.
They have such nifty ONE + tools as framing nailers, brad nailers, a Miter saw, Impact drivers and Hammer drills to name a few of the heavier duty models. Them, I would suggest, would run better on the 4 Amp HOur battery IF it doesn't include a battery wiht the tool. They have a dual chemistry charger which will charge both the NICAD and the Lithium batteries, a LI IOn charger only, and two kinds of LI IOn 6-battery charging stations.
FOr CHristmas I am getting te smaller cheaper {$19.99} tire inflator, {there is an inflation station model for another $10 or $20}, nad the smaller bluetoothed, digital tuned radio, operates up to 15 hours, htough I don;t know which battery That requires. That adds to my collection: the drill/driver {2 of em!!}, Impact driver, brad nailer, recip saw, circ saw, jig saw, twokinds of flashlights, dust-buster style vacuum, weed eater, hedge trimer, grass clipper {NOT the weed eater}, the corner sander,and one or two others I can't think of now. and YES, I DO know SANTA is bringing me those two new additions! Though, come to think of it, i may exchange the tire inflator for the inflation station, it will inflate any inflatables I may ever have {no, not THAT kind}
Its a system WELL WORTH checking out at your local HOME DE-POT, Though MOH thinks I HAVE ENOUGH TOOLS ALREADY {Is THAT possible?}
Nest Christmas I think Santa brings me the miter saw!!!
Have a SWEELL eventide awaiting for Saint Nicholas!

Christmas Eve---brings back a flood of memories, some I embrace, those of family gatherings, midnight mass at church, anxiety for the next day, Dad reading to the family from the Bible---I am thankful that I grew up in a time and a place that I did.
The ones that I have that are less than pleasant are from the years I worked as a deputy sheriff, this time of year has the ability to bring out the worst in some people. The hardest thing I ever did in my life was to tell a 10 year old boy, who was sweeping the snow from the steps of his house, that his father would not be coming home from work. He had been killed in a head on collision by a drunk driver. That still bothers me.
Anyway--
It is Christmas Eve, the very best to each and all in the coming days, and in the next year.
Ulrich--enjoyed the music--

Merry Christmas to each and every diner. i have a dozen cinammon rolls and a dozen orange rolls rising in the pantry. I use the pantry as it is the warmest placee in our old house as a proofing box. Rolls are for family Christmas brunch at the daughter's house tomorrow. I have to be done baking and icing the rolls by 6 PM as I have to rush off to sing at Christmas Eve service tonight.
Galaxy, glad to see you back and keep up the good work on the weight lose.
ROR, good news about Scout. We had a cat that lived on our neighbor's roof when we lived in California several years ago. At least it had enough sense to come down to eat and drink. The same cat went up a very tall pine tree while we lived in Alabama. It would have probably stayed up the tree but the magpies start to dive bomb it and it came down on its own. My very young daughter wanted me to call the fire department to rescue her cat but I told her the cat would be fine. The cat lived to 18 years of age in spite of being stuffed into the Barbie doll house, the Barbie airplane and the Barbie baby carriage. Good memories of Boots, the cat. We got Boots as a reward for my younger daughter reading in class in first grade. It is really hard on a 6-7 year old to go from first grade in the midwest to the deep south and have to deal with sounding different from classmates.
Time to walk the dog for her mile a day jaunt.
Have a great Christmas!
Jim
Extra strong coffee with a spoon, in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please and thank you.
***Ulrich, that is fantastic you were able to help Claus build a layout for his grandson. That will be a lifelong memory for the child. Very cool!
I already know what Santa brought me. He really splurged this year....just one item. If I can remember how to share a pic on here, I'll do so tomorrow.
Cheers! Rob
Santa comes early in Germany - on Christmas Eve, as soon as the sun has set.
The Christmas layout my friend Claus and I built for his 8-year old grandson proved to be a great success - making a happy child and a proud grandfather!
I am glad I could be part of it, although I am a little sad I will never be able to build a layout for my own grandchild.
Blessings to all on this Holy Eve!
I am fortunate enough to work nite shift through the festive holidays, thrilled, NOT.

BroadwayLion LION had jury duty yesterday. The city vs dude for Actual Physical Possession. City caalled six witnesses, three of whom were ossifscers, three were silly villians. The Barber put him the the Black Pickup at 1111 hours. The mechanic put him in the alley (and hitting a utility trailer) at c. 1200 hours. And a home security camera put him in front of a thouse at 1310 where another driver in a white cowboy hat pulled the subject out of the truck and took him home. Ossiphers investicagted all three sitings, and he has taken into custody in his home at 1330 hours. At 1430 hours the bood alkohol of him was 0.232. We deliberated carefully, and had the judge replay the home security video for us, but in the end the perponderance of evidence supported a guilty decission. Whell, at least he was still alive, from my EMS days that was not always a given. ROAR

Merry Christmas to everyone and a happy New Year!
Afternoon Diners,
It's been busy. I see I'm not the only one making chocolate chip cookies.
After getting my new book N Scale Model Railroading Getting into the Hobby I realized there's several things missing. My older book has more information, it might be a little outdated but it works.
Happy Holidays!
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
The wife & I are busy getting ready for the festivities at our house tomorrow. Besides us, family consisting of 6 adults & 4 great nephews & a great niece will be here. Following dinner, we will exchange gifts, that to be followed by coffee & deserts. My other nephew will call from SC & we will all talk to him & his family. It will be a wonderful day, but an exhausting one.
No railfanning this weekend. Norfolk Southern isn't running anyway, so at least I'm not missing anything. We haven't been out for 3 weeks, & I'm anxious to get back to my favorite spot beside the rails.
We would like to wish all of you & your families a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. Stay safe & enjoy each day, it won't be back again.

Have a good day guys I might pop back in tonight
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast and a couple Sour Cream Glazed donuts to start the day....
A very wonderful Christmas Eve and the start of Hanukkah to all who celebrate either today! I Shall be at church this afternoon about the time of sunset (really the beginning of Christmas day in the old calendar where the day starts at sundown and ends at sundown the next day) for the "Childrens/Sunday School Christmas Eve Service". Grandaughters will be part of the service so that will be the one I want to see..... I need to cook down the winter squash today to take to my son's house for Christmas Dinner tomorrow. Most everything else has been accomplished!
G, good to see you in the diner! Yes, the electric tools are great. I will need to get a new lawn mower next year as my B&D has developed some problems with the propulsion unit that drives the rear wheels. Handles poorly when only one of the wheels is turning... Both of the batteries I have are getting on towards the end of their service life so I have been checking out the write ups on line for other brands....
It is 41°F and drizzling outside here in the Finger Lakes. The little sn*w we have on the ground left from last week will be gone by the end of the day. Just hoping the roads aren't icy tomorrow for for those traveling (which will be many of us I assume). So, Drive carefully and have a wonderful celebration with your loved ones!!!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Galaxy, good to see you in the forum, but man, that's a hard post top.
We ate out twice this past week, a Mexican restaurant and last night an Italian restaurant. Both nights I was up several times drinking water like the lost cat in the tree. Plus major heartburn.
Rainy on Christmas eve. My parents had a clothing store and I would be farmed out to my grandmother for Christmas eve. She navigated the city by bus, and we would go downtown where all the big department stores were next to one another. I allways found those cast metal soldiers the most fascinating. My father was Jewish and my mother Catholic, but we celebrated Christmas, turkey or roast beef for dinner.
Rainy today in the mid-Atlantic. They are acting like our recent fatal ice storm road melee is some great mystery. There has not been one mention of whether the road was treated with salt or not. My bet is no, they waited too long.

Well, The presents are all under the tree, the stockings are stuffed, and The jolly old elf has left some presents behind for my "great nephews"...they will get them on Sunday when we take them to their Grandpa's house...my "brother". I will deliver them with a cute little theme based on T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS where When I Spring form my bed to see what was the matter and see the miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer with a driver so lively and quick, I will WRESTLE him to the ground, and struggle with him untill he asks if I know three little boys, who have been very good, but to whom's house he forgot to leave some presents and could I please deliver them to them for him? I doubt they will notice the name tags say from "uncle galaxy" on them!!! I think they will enjoy the story I tell Of the fat Jolly old elf!
I will bake some homemade easy whole wheat bread to take to the dinner my "brother" is doing for us on sunday. We will "be keeping up appearances" as a COuple even though My "brother' knows of the trouble we are/have been having for years now.

CentralGulf RideOnRoad Guess who we just found--yup, Scout is home. We found him on the tile roof of a neighbor three houses down the road. He has lost about 2 pounds, won't stop drinking*, but seems to be happy to be safe and fed. *Edit: And by drinking I mean the hard stuff. It must have been a rather traumatic 12 days. Congrats on getting Scout back. Hopefully, the "hard stuff" reference is a joke. Alcohol is toxic to cats. CG

Good Morning!
Today´s the 24th of December. the Holy Eve, which is the big day for German children, as Santa brings the presents as sun as the sun has set. I bet most of the kiddies are getting quite anxious already early in the morning!
It is the day of the year my mind wanders back to my childhood days. In the late 1950´s and early 1960´s, most people were rather poor in this country and presents were few, which made them even more precious to us. It was a time of togetherness, much more than it is these days. It must be a sign of getting old age, but I found Christmas back then much more heartwarming than it is today. Maybe it is the time to step back a little and look back to what we once had.
We won´t exchange any presents this year, but fed the money set aside for this into the piggy bank called "moving". I have donated a small, but sizable amount for us to the family of the truck driver who was killed in the Berlin attack by the terrorists.
I will be receiving a gift, though, from my friend in Japan. Some time ago, he had scratchbuilt a tram based on the former Hamburg streetcars, which he will be sending to me. I feel very much honored!
Here is a picture of it:
What better words can there be for today, other than those?
While I'm a day or so early,
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Hobby Front: Given that the weather for Christmas is talking BLIZZARD, I most likely will have the opportunity to get a few of my many projects done. The primary one I want to finish is the U25s. The only things left are attaching the front couplers, the snow plows, and the firecracker antennas. The next thing would be the SD45 cab and rejigging the handrails. But we shall see.
Evening Diners
Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal on the rocks and I will have a please.
Work Front about what I expected, 4 customer 5 bought for a earth shattering $502.00.
Christmass Dumps. I really don't remember a worse one. I have a whole $30.00 I can spend. Well we are all in semi good health so that is a plus.
YGW Are you ever going to tell every one your first name? I bet you have PM'ed just about every person here! I did miss that request about the E-Mail sample post and I will try to get one sent to you this weekend.
Gary You know after running the Mighty B&O F7's I would have agreed with you. Pretty much turned of the F7a sound, seem the speaker was acting up before the wiring problem happned. Getting the sound volume the way I wanted it seemed to be a problem with only using the B unit sound only. With the BLI CB&Q F7's I was able to set the volume to 56% and they sound great!
Ed Reason I removed the rear coupler box was the cut lever, I was afraid I break them. I pulled the cut lever off yesterday but still could not get the rear coupler box on. Tonight I used a off set woman use to pluck eye brows with and got it installed!
Another box? I like boxes!
Well it is late, so I am heading in.

Howdy. Just checking in. The young people are wearing us out doing too much stuff.
CN Charlie had his major surgery on Monday if I recall correctly. I do hope the procedure went well and he can leave the hospital in time for Christmas.
Ken. My CBQ F7's are Walthers instead of BLI. They were D.C. And I added DCC . I believe only one sound unit is needed for a consist, and I put it in the B unit . I am pleased with these F7's .
The real Bulington had only a few F7's although it had a lot of FT's and F3's. By the time EMD was selling F7's , Burlington was buying mostly GP's and SD's which were more versatile.
Merry Christmas to all . I may not have time to post in the next few days.
