Evening Diners
Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal on the rocks and I will have a in a frosted CB&Q Mug.
Galaxy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great to see your Typing again! You know, the weight lost may help with the other half problem.
ROR I am sure glad you found Scout! Far as playing in front of a audience just get into what you are playing and forget they are there till you are in the grove. Worked for me when I was in a band.
Ed Ran the CB&Q last night, just a tad forward, then backed it up to lash it to a coal train. Both A units went into sleep mode! Guess I bore them! I woke them up easily with F6 and they ran! Tonight I read there CV's using Decoder Pro, that takes a while. Changed the sound settings and all most perfect. Just need to tame the horn down and crank up the bell a tad.
While I was reading the CV's I think maybe I may have found part of the problems I have had with the Mighty B&O F7's. I changed the primery address from 3 to 23 where the CB&Q stayed at 3?
What time do you get up? Like to call you Wednesday. You think you will ever get of the Night Shift?
Later, Ken

FINALLY some GOOD news! Glad to hear about Scout's return! I'll bet he has some stories to tell...
Cicero is shouting with joy!
Ed
Guess who we just found--yup, Scout is home. We found him on the tile roof of a neighbor three houses down the road. He has lost about 2 pounds, won't stop drinking*, but seems to be happy to be safe and fed.
*Edit: And by drinking I mean the hard stuff. It must have been a rather traumatic 12 days.
Here is what the MKT Roundhouse Caboose looks like,

Mint tea, please.
***YGW, good advice on the metal shims. I set two jacks in place which will secure it for awhile. Going to add a third jack shortly.
Some cool pics being shared in here.
Healing thoughts for those in need.
Cheers! Rob
Hello all!
Finshed both of my Computer Networking and History Finals last Friday, waiting for grades to get posted.
Work: Off today thru thursday, back on Friday.
Trainfront: Found a Roundhouse MKT Red Outside Braced Wood Caboose on ebay, as well as a Walthers CA-1 UP Yellow Caboose with ladders, grab irons, and railings installed.
That MKT Caboose will look good with my Athearn Genesis MKT F3's!!!
Since the Diner for this month is in Colorado, here is a colorful map of Colorado,
" width="102" height="736" />
You can see Durango in the lower left corner, My Dad is from Colorado Springs.
That's all for now, more later.
Good Evening Diners,
Brunhilda, I'll have a cup of Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.
Ulrich: My prayers for the casualties in Berlin. It's an absolute and needless tragedy. I fear for when the German people decide they aren't going to put up with it anymore, and I don't think it will be long. Nuff said! Is there anyone in the USA or Canada who would sponsor you?
Ride On: I have no idea how to tell you how to get rid of stage jitters. But for what it's worth, back in my very early performing days, I didnt get nervous until the middle of the first song. It would hit and soon pass, then I wouldn't be bothered by it for the rest of the evening. The sky didn't fall. The audience didn't form a lynch mob, and I was still ok. It only happened a few times and I was never bothered by it again. I for one, am rooting for you.
Galaxy: good to see you post again.
On a happy note, I got my Great Model Railroads 2017 today. Can't wait to see the layouts.
Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Hi Jeremy. I did not know scoliosis can appear in adulthood, but apparently it can. I know people who have had surgery as children or teenagers. I don't know anything about the progression of scoliosis when it starts in adulthood. In kids it gets worse so they have rods put in on either side of the spine to keep it straight.
OTOH 70% of adults have back pain for one reason or another. We should have kept on all fours. If you find a doctor willing to give you percocet or oxycontin over a long perion of time you probably will become addicted and still have pain.
In the scheme of things and bad news you can get from doctors, it could be a lot worse.

It is a beautiful day in the valley of the sun. I went out for a bike ride this afternoon and it was 70F and mostly sunny. I planned on riding 18 miles but the weather was just too good to waste, so I rode an additional 5 miles.
I had a dress rehersal for the recital yesterday at the recital hall (small venue at the Steinway showroom with a Model D). Started very well and went downhill from there. I am having memory issues with the music. I know it but I have momentary lapses with the pressure of performance. All it takes it a momentary lapse and, "Bang!" it goes south in a hurry. I will be glad when this is all over. Whose brilliant idea was this, anyway?!
I ran the trains for the grandkids this morning. The two-year-olds loved watching the train go into the mountain (my loop-back in hidden in a mountain) and saying, "Where's the train? There it is!" Good times.
Hi guys
i have had a sore back now for a couple months and went to the docotor. She sent me for a x Ray yesterday and it came back today.
turns out i have scoliosis, lateral scoliosis she says. Doesn't sound like it may affect me right now aside from the sore back but later on down the line it may become a problme.
do any of you guys have this or know of anybody? Kind of a downer during the holiday season but at least i know now
thanks
jeremy
Good afternoon .
Galaxy. Good to see you again. I hope 2017 is very good to you.
Ulrich .. prayers continue for Germany .
when we left home in western KY Saturday it was 75 degrees F . We drove through very heavy rain between Louisville and Cincinnati. We spent the night at our son's near Cincinnati. Overnight temperatures dropped to low twenties . Drove to Michigan Sunday where the temperatures have been in single digits. We have Christmas gifts in the bed of the Avalanche and the tailgate froze closed . However, the weather guessers say it will be less cold for the next few days
Everybody: Cheers !

Galaxy!
What a big surprise and what a joy to hear from you! 2016 has proven to be a trying year for quite afew of us amd I am not overly pessimistic in saying 2017 will be even worse, at least at this end of the Big Pond.
Keeping you in my prayers!
angelob6660Ulrich- Have you decided on a new country? I thought about the Holland, it's right next door.
All of the EU countries suffer from the same "illness" - the only places we feel to be safe will be far away from Europe.
Hello all from Virginia
Train front - I have been pushing the excavator/concrete guy to get the ftgs in. Seems I pushed to late. At the end of the year we are having a hard time getting the concrete batch/mix supplier to fit us in, Seems like the walls will not be poured until next week OH, this is oh so painful, for someone who has been waiting a life time to build a room designated for this hobby !
Been very busy at w**k again. Passed two major inspections today on two different houses. I thought I was going to have to shove a sock in the carpenter superintendent mouth hole. He started arguing with the building inspector. I could see the body langauge of the inspector getting tense and angry. I thought to myself this is not going to end well, and I was wishing the carpenter super would "just shut up already". Finally I stepped in and smoothed things over and got everyone settled down, not one of the fun things I have to do from time to time.
Howmus - you okay havent seen a post from you in here ?
Lion - how is the leg - I mean paw doing ?
Beach bill - LOL - That is funny Pelican with sign "Florida or Bust" I laughed out loud here when I read that. Thanks needed the comic release : )
V8 - WOW When they ship that heavy stuff what happens when the reciever cannot pick it up ?
Ulrich - You and your country are in our prayers that is awful and heart hurts with yours.
FRRYKid - When our venders deliver they take pictures. It is surprising how many times something has been delivered and it broke or disappears after delivery. When that happens we have to eat it and buy the product again.
GMPullman - LOL Ooops - I was so busy and kept getting side tracked that my editing lacked. I am not one to trust much or Gov to run anything well except give themselves benefits and raises at our expense.
Ken - Sounds like you RR is expanding. Hmmm maybe you will have to cut a hole in the house wall and expand into the living room ?
Rob - If I may offer a piece of advice when you shim use something that will not sqaush. When we shim we use 1/4" steel plates cut into 4" sqaures.

Now HOPEFULLY next year - 2017 {do you believe it?} WILL be a better year for me! To recap: 15 weeks of pneumonia, tore my MCL and ACL ligaments R knee, Turned diabetic, Herniated disc neck surgery, Car accident, Left Shoulder surgery and a total of 30 weeks of PT for various of all of the above!!!
SOme of yuo may have had a worse year, but hopefully most of you had better years than I.
I am still under the wait-a-year-before-filing-for-divorce rule, but divorce is still PENDING...'nuff said on THAT FRONT.
Hey! I have reach my first weightloss goal in just 5 weeks with change in diet and routine chnages for being now diabetic! I lost a whole 25 pounds! That's 2 babies and a half I lost! On my way to losing 25 more, and then that will be more towards losing a WHOLE person off my diminutive stature frame. {I really need to lose at least 100lbs.....}
I have NOT read all the comments here, and as I have 1,789 emails I haven't bothered with lately to get through and delete a lot of them, I won't unitl later.
WE are going to close friends {enough we are all considered "family"} for Christmas Dinner, nad they are coming here for New Years eve, so I DON'T HAVE TO COOK a BLOOMIN CHRISTMAS FAMILY MEAL! YAY! Natch, I WILL have to cook New Years Eve dinner...

Ulrich: I understand what you all are going through, thoughst and prayers to those affected.
YGW/ Beach Bill: BB King was like setting down with your grandfather, he was very quiet, different from when he was on stage. Funny thing was he was listening to himself on the bus' sound system. His "handlers" were absolute jerks, but he was nice.
Our friend was once Buddy Guy's manager so that is how we got to meet Buddy. On a later date we interviewed Buddy for a book and he was like your favorite uncle. He would have sat there and talked to us the rest of the day if his office manger had not told us "time is up". we were at his Legends club in Chicago for that interview.
Bonnie Raitt is nice ( Our friend was her manger as well, in fact he started her career.) we finagle free tickets and backstage passes to her concerts when we can.
I have some reel to reel I am going to convert to digital for our freind, some recordings of various old blues men from festivals in the 1960's ( sorry can't make copies) Our friend holds the rights to all Son House recordings. ( He was Son's manger too.)
Been a busy week start so far.
root beer for all.
Morning Diners,
CentralGulf- You're package must been to heavy or the truck was to full.
Ulrich- Have you decided on a new country? I thought about the Holland, it's right next door.
Ed- I like watching and learning railroad videos.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Very grey at the beach this morning. There were lots - hundreds - of pelicans headed south over the breakers as I was walking. One of 'em had a "Florida or Bust" bumper sticker on its rump. I thus suspect that more cold weather is on the way. I found one small but nicely-formed shark's tooth this morning.
Seems like a good day to get a nice pot of white bean chicken chili simmering.
MOE: Liked the pictures! I don't have photos but do try to get some autographs on the CD inserts. Buddy Guy has been nothing but gracious each time I've seen him and also when my son ran into him in a hotel lobby once. I was in that neck of the woods for the Robert Johnson Centennial event, and once one sees where Morgan Freeman came from it causes "stop to think" time. I'll look up Lucios Spiller.
Ulrich: We do get coverage here in the States of the attacks and a bit of the immigrant pressure there, but no mention of pending restrictions on speech. Peace be with you.
I had found a nice MDC/Roundhouse kit for the undecorated 50' passenger car at the local train show in November. I checked my little drawer of passenger car details and have enough seats to detail it - but not well. So I just now "clicked" and have some more interior details coming from Palace Car Co.. I think that I'll make it into a chair car for any upscale passengers that might get lost in the backwoods and want to ride my railroad.
Bill
More on the USPS "humor" front. I ordered a 42 x 30 x 33 drafting table from Amazon. They mailed it!
I'm signed up to get automatic notifications from USPS, so when the local Post Office received it, I got an email at home stating it was out for delivery. A few minutes later I got another email at home stating that the recipient (me) was not at home (even though I was) and the item was back at the Post Office.
I immediately called the Post Office to verify the table's location, then drove into town. The nice lady there explained that the package was too big for the carrier (a substitute that day) to get it into his car, so he entered it in the system as an attempted delivery.
I immediately complained (nicely) about the entry, pointing out that it was false and officially stated something about me that was not true, namely that I was not at home when I was at home. She responded that there were no other codes he could have entered.
I pointed out there was something fundamentally broken with a system that required a federal employee to falsify a US Government document (a crime), and had there been issues with the vendor regarding the product, false delivery documents could leave the customer holding the bag.
The nice lady agreed with me, then arranged for someone to help me load the package into the back of my truck.
I don't fault the local USPS employees for this stuff. My regular carrier and most of the subs are great. The problem is at the top.

Sir MadogThe above is not meant to be political, just the thoughts of a person in great sadness.
How can anyone make sense out of something SO senseless... Only twelve human beings...
Sad, too, is the feeling of helplessness.
Try to carry on, Ulrich.
Regards, Ed
Ed:
I don't think we get the bags up here anymore. I could be wrong since I don't buy the stuff. You use the bags for your camera lenses. That's great. In fact, I think that Crown Royal bags may have been used to carry and protect a wider variety of things then any other bag in recent memory. I used to carry my marbles in them. I would bet that almost every Canadian kid from the 50s through the 90s has kept something that they valued in a Crown Royal bag.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good Morning!
I found only little sleep last night, as I am very emotional about yesterday´s terrorist attack in Berlin. The death toll now stands at 12 and our politician keep on telling the public we should be glad that the number is that low. The victims seem to be viewed as collateral damage on the road to a new society that we don´t want to have.
The above is not meant to be political, just the thoughts of a person in great sadness.
hon30critterBoy you guys really go nuts for Canadian rye whiskey.
Can you imagine how the Canadian economy would suffer if we didn't?
The Crown Royal thing is just for fun. Actually one of my favorites is the old stand-by, Canadian Club. The ten-year-old was my favorite but it is no longer available here... I'd sure like to wet my lips with some! I like to use JP Wiser's 18 year-old for my Manhattans and when I'm so inclined I'll tip a little Collingwood 21. It's all good...
On some occasions I like Revelstoke (but they make it two words for some reason) I spent some time in Revelstoke some years ago and I just like the name
Speaking of Revelstoke... enjoy this great film! The demonstration of a train order meet is worth the price of admission!
Watch it in 720P and full screen
Railroaders,
This is a short documentary about winter railroading in the Canadian Rockies and the men who keep the lines clear. The stretch between Revelstoke and Field, British Columbia, is a snow-choked threat to communications. The film shows the work of section hands, maintenance men, train crews and telegraph operators.
Crown still comes with the purple (or green or beige) sacks. I keep my camera lenses in them for extra protection. I Put a little catnip in them sometimes, so the little furry ones can have some fun, too!
Cheers! Ed
gmpullmanHave Fun! Thanks for the Happy Holiday Week, to all! Regards, Ed
Boy you guys really go nuts for Canadian rye whiskey. IMHO Crown Royal is far from the nicest Canadian rye. Many of the less expensive brands taste much nicer. Personally I prefer Wisers Traditional or Alberta Premium. Mind you, there are lots of Crown Royal affictianados. My Aunt Gert was one. In fact she asked that her ashes be buried in one of the traditional purple Crown Royal bags. (Crown Royal used to package their bottles in a soft purple velvet bag with a gold tassle). She got her wish.
The distillers up here have come out with some really tasty products recently that put Crown Royal to shame. For example, Wisers is experimenting with a "Hopped" rye which uses beer hopps to enhance the flavour. Believe me, it is hard to have just one! I really hope they produce it in quantity.
Anyhow, each to his own poison! I figure I'm not poisoning myself. I'm preserving myself for the future!
Cheers everybody! Have one on me!!
Ken:
I've had my issues with the postal s before. I've had packages that were supposed to have been delivered but never showed up. I also had a recent international package that got to the post office but got "lost" somewhere after that even though it needed a signature. The clerk claimed that it went out for delivery and the carriers didn't know where it was delivered. I wasn't enthused but there was nothing I could do about it.
Hobby Front: Got a lot closer on the U25Cs. Got one more decal per side (a circle that goes on top of the NP logo.). In one spot, the needed striping was missing. Had the repaint the sides as some of the lettering was damaged/incorrect and the engines needed to renumbered. (All fixed with the two engine decal sets [One NP, one BN] that I had onhand.) Just waiting for the rest of the needed parts that I have on order. (Snow plows, couplers and screws which should be here tomorrow.) The antenna will be attached once everything else is done. If I'm lucky, I can take the engines to the layout and get a project out of my hair. (And yes, I will post photos before they go out to the layout.)
Also got the last coat of the paint on the diesel engine house and got the floor repainted from all the drips. Next thing is to find time to paint the doors and windows with a coat of flat finish. (The green that I use for that purpose is a gloss paint and a flat finish is needed.)
Also found out something interesting on how artifical Christmas wreathes are constructed. The branches are "captured" as two heavy wires are twisted together. Taking them back apart generates the pieces that will become the tree armatures. (A lot easier on the hands than trying to cut the individual branches off the frame.) I have ended up with a lot more pieces than I anticipated. (I thought that a plastic shoe box would be enough. Of course pieces from two wreathes will do that. I hope to eventually stuff 4 wreathes worth in there, at least temporarily. Had one on hand and brought three more.)
Ken,
Your story sounds like the Keystone Cops or the Three Stooges would have done a better job of delivering the mail around there.
Oh, sometimes things get messed up here, too.
One time I was waiting for a $400. computer chip to be delivered UPS. Checked the tracking and it says "delivered"!
I looked ALL over and found NO package, there was light snow on the ground and no vehicle had been down my driveway. This was on a Friday.
I looked all over around the mail box at the end of the drive since the UPS notation said delivered in mailbox. This was a holiday weekend so no mail or UPS was due for next couple of days.
Call the company that sent the UPS computer chip, they said it was delivered so nothing they could do.
Finally, the Wednesday after this I get a pink slip in my mailbox for a postage-due package waiting for me at P.O. ???
I drive into town and find that it IS the UPS package!!! Letter carrier took it out of mailbox immediately after the UPS driver had put it in there!!! Slapped a US Mail label over the UPS label!
I Had to pay $8 shipping, seems it went priority mail from my mailbox to the post office where I had to go pick it up (about 4 miles!)
I called UPS to tell them that they are NOT ALLOWED to use the mailbox, it is U.S. Govt. property (even though I bought it and put it up) they said... huh. Oh well. What about the $8. I had to pay to get MY package that was supposed to be delivered to ME, not the mailbox!? Sorry, you lose...
Anyway, the consumer is helpless anymore. The thread the other day about the "signature required" Digitrax throttle reminded me of the above episode. Sure it is a pain but if you really need something and can't risk losing it you should sign for it.
Of course, I just saw a story about a homeless man signing for a package that a delivery person gave him...
http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2016/12/13/why-did-fedex-let-homeless-man-sign-for-package-meant-for-roseville-business/
Glad you finally got it straightened out, Ken! Yes, I'm pretty sure those were mainly freight F7s. I believe the CB&Q had some passenger F3s. I originally got those to pull my California Zephyr but have some Western Pacific F's for that duty now.
[edit] Ken, I'm sure you'll figure it out but the 167-A is lead, 167-B goes next with the (F) stencil toward the front and the 167-D faces backward. That's the way I ran them, anyway.
Have Fun! Thanks for the
Happy Holiday Week, to all!
Flo, Ed will have a crown Royal on the rocks and I will have a
Ulrich Just hard to understand and it is sad and confusing.
Two Christmas Gifts Walk Into The United States Post Offices, Want To Guess What Happens?
Called the local branch 3 times today and talked to there and I was the whole time.
1 Did not ask for the tracking number, in steady she asked the carrier if I got a package Saturday. Was told yes, and then she told me I got it!
2 Told her "Only package we got was from Linda in Indy. (Wifes Friend) Told her we should have gotton two packages, not one!
3 Gave her the tracking number for the missing package, she looked on her computer and told me "Intercepted means you got the package"! Told her that is not what he means and read to her what there site say's it means!
4 Gave her the tracking number off the package Linda sent (Linda name and address was listed as shipper so it had to be from Linda right?
5 As I was leaving for work another packaged showed up, all so listing Linda as shipper? Wife said "Linda did not tell me she was sending 2 Packages?
6 Wife called as soon as I got to work.
Seems Linda only sent one package, not two. But she got the zip code wrong so she spent $13.00 to have her package Intercepted to change the ZIP CODE. The good old USPS intercepted Ed's package, labled to Sue Ann Greenwell and changed the shipper FROM Ed To Linda!
Why in the heck would they change the Shipper's Name And Address! Dang package been sitting here under my nose for 3 day!
What would have been a real Hoot is if my wife had not called Linda and open the box Christmas. The look on her face would have pricless!
Ed, either you really like me or hate QSI engines! My gosh, the CB&Q's are stunning! And a BLI caboose to follow it up yet! Are the colors you sent used in freight, passanger or both? Guess the caboose says freight.
Got home late so the CB&Q's have not seen the track yet nor have I unwrapped every thing. But as silly as it sound the two iteams that put the biggest grin on my faces? I saw the Bessemer patch through the bag and the Atlas 35' B&O hopper! I bought a Bachmann 50' B&O hopper that looks the same from K-10. Up grade it and enjoy the heck out of it. Funny that some times you enjoy a cheap (I paid $1.00) thing that you have fixed up.
I guess the old saying "What goes around comes around" is ture.
Thanks again my friend!
Later Ken
Chamomile tea, please.
***Ken, you sure have nice trees on your layout. Very well done!
***Der, that snow plow made me chuckle.
Small section of my back screened porch is trying to pull away from the house/sagging. New priority, set some jack posts out there and slowly (over time) bring it back up to level. Once that is done, I'll add a couple extra footers for 6x6" posts and shim the exsisting posts as well. (This was not part of the house I built, or this would not be happening. I always overbuild everything).
Take care all.

Life jackets driven into the gash to slow down the flow. Bilge pumps were able to stay ahead of it. Or, as one of the gang said,"The Almighty protects fools, and fisherfolk" I guess I have fallen into that catagory somewhere.

Train front - Today I bought some O gauge Polar express stuff. I buy a little each year to add to the tree layout. Got the little girl and santa and this year they have elves and I bought the candy cookie house. I also bought a polar express snow globe for my daughter who collect them.
Lonnie - so glad you decided to join us. Hey it sound like you are raising your son right there what would you like to drink ? Hot chocalate from the Polar express ? Some coffee with N&W coal dust to spice it up ? Flo set Lonnie up and the tab is on me !
Garry - Frigid today only ? I thought from October to April it was always frigid in Michigan ? Did you read the temps where Bill is at ? In the 70s ! Makes one want to go south !
Angel - Truck touching underframe ? What scale is that N with the pizza cutter flange wheels ?
MoeLarry - Pretty impressive friends there. Who did you find to be the nicest guy ?
Ulrich !!! So glad to see at least for now you are okay. Send me an email when you get a chance
Herrinchoker - What kept you from sinking ?
V8 - Free air ? I though all air was free
Richard - Wow that does sound like a grand time !
Ricky W - How about this for irony. My brother went up into the national forest to hunt. When he came home his daughter had shot a 12 pt buck off of his back deck ! He didnt even see a deer.
Howmus - Do you sell out all of the christmas trains every year ?
Ken - Sound like a selling oppurtunity to me. You could advertise the mattresses as giant heating pads
Cats - Is your club an NMRA CLUB ?
Bill - Ouch you know how to hurt us chosen frozen, 70s - nice
Lion - how is the leg doing ?
DER - LOL love the snow plow
Henry - That was a bad day all of that ice. I know people who went out in it. My wife was one who wouldnt listen to me. At least not until she went outside and stepped on teh ice. She came back in a hurry.
Ulrich.. It is reported in our news. For Germany.
