Good evening .

We returned back from out trip. Over 300 miles to Son;s family near Cincinnati.. From there another 300 miles to daughter's family north of Detorit.... From there about 175 milies to Grand Rapids, MI. .... Finally, we drove about 600 milies home. ...

When on road trips, I like to imagine traveling by train in the pre-Amtrak era to the places we visit.

CN Charlie.... I am glad you were able to get home in time for Christmas. I pray you continue to rcover from you major surgery.

Todd ... I was delighted to see you posted for Chirtsmas. I hope you can do more visits to the Diner.

Ken ... That is a long train, I bet it was fun to wtch it.

Ed .... I read your thoughtful note to the Diners for CHristmas. Thank you for your time writing it. I hope everybody here read it.

Steven ..... Fruit Cake !.... I love fruit cake ! ... That looked like a good one !

I'll catch up on more of your posts later.

Evening Diners,

CN Charlie- Take care and relax after your surgery.

After figuring out details about the New York Central around the late 1950s and into the early 1960s. It's still a challenge about finding the caboose. It might be a yard action layout. Don't worry about the Union Pacific it's around the same time line.

Probably next year (if) I'll have a working layout, maybe in Union Pacific. Late 50s early 60s branch line.

CN Charlie welcome home.  Your tip on Tamiya tape for masking worked out great.  I'll get some pics up when I am done decaling.

Not much to say today, it finally got sunny and warm  65!

Whistling

Good to hear from you CN. Charlie,

A bunch of us were wondering how things had gone for you.

Hope you soon catch up on the goodies of the Season.   I can blend them down to have them, but I don't get the satisfaction of the taste.  But I stay healthy and that is what really matters.

You make sure you do the same. ( Do what the Sawbones and your Wife tell you to do and you should be OK. )

Prayers and blessings for you and yours.Angel

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I'm back from my ordeal in the OR and it was certainly an ordeal. My surgery on the 19th went fine but it was long and I lost some blood so had to have a transfusion. The Doc, said given my size I don't have a lot to lose. The first 3 days after surgery were gruelling to say the least. I pushed that morphine button a lot. I spent 6 nights in hospital getting out Christmas day. Am doing ok now. Just  have to get the catheter out next  week and the staples removed. I will be very happy when that happens.

Glad to hear most of you had a nice Christmas and had lots of good food. I sure didn't. Food in the Grace isn't great but then again I didn't really care.

Well time to do a few more laps around the house carrying my bucket and then I think I'll flop in my new ezboy chair.

Good morning! I hope everyone had a good Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Solstice, or Festivus celebration, as the case may be. Things are going to be pretty slow around the Diner, with Zoe and Chloe off visiting their grandparents in Savannah. Just tell Brunhilda if you want any of that fruitcake. (Ask her extra nice and she'll soak it with that bottle she keeps under the counter.)

Went downtown to a local Appliance store and found they had taken the day off (Boxing Day here in Geneva???).

Given that Christmas was on a Sunday this year there are a lot of places (State and Federal including) that decided to take Monday off. At least around here, that was probably a good thing. We got smacked big time by the latest winter storm. I cleared the sidewalk around my apartment building and discovered that the snow height (after the snow was cleared) was just below my calf! (Hadn't been done yet and I needed to do it so that I could get out to go to work on Tuesday.) Not heavy (fairly dry powder) but just lots of volume.

Hobby Front: Got the SD45 worked on a little more. Got the second side of cab glued on. (May have to put a little bit more on the inside to secure it which will be a job for one of my favvorite tools: toothpicks!) The next major job for the engine will be the jog in the handrails. I think I will use the front end sections off the extra set of long hood handrails. They seem to have the right angle and the right length for the job.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal and I will have a Beer please.

I was stunned by work today! For the first 3 hours I was very busy! It seemed like I had more customers than I did because 2 left then came back and bought. While not a great day, still did $1870.00 in sales so not bad. After 4:00 PM pretty much dead as normal.

YGW I got the test E-Mail sent under the subject Daytona.

Ed Thanks for the photos of the CB&Q engines! I have down load them and you may be seeing them again! Whistling Far as the E-8 decoder, looks like the same board! Yes Why in the heck would Proto make a decoder board where you had to cut wires to oil the motor in the first places! Bang Head I have taken a quick look at the LED's and I think they will help a lot with the B&O GP 7 project.

Train Front I was going to bragg a little about how well the layout was running!

 CB&Q's was dragging 41 cars.

Bessemer SD 9 with a Rio Grand SD 9 where dragging 32 cars.

B&O GP 30's where pulling 33 coal cars.

I was running 106 rolling stock at the same time. Note, I said was! Sigh B&O GP 30's dropped about 20 coal cars in the 13' tunnel. I did not catch the problem till the CB&Q hit them. Some of the coal cars fould the B line and the Bessemer's hit them. Bang Head Just don't feel like dragging out the big hook tonight. (taking the moutain off is a pain)

 Later, Ken

About the only place they have them around here is the Home Cheapo about 25 miles away....  Personally I lean toward WORX.  Have several outlets including Lowes here.  I will most likely see if I can get a WORX Lawn Mower next spring from the local Chain Saw Guy I have done business with for many years in Penn Yan.  I don't buy from Billionairs if possible.........  Rather give my $$$ to someone in the local community.

Been doing a lot of odds and ends today.  Found that a joint on the drainage pipe by the side of the house for the sump (empties around to the front side of the house about 15' from the street) had come loose (could be of the reasons I am still getting water down cellar), so I went out and reconnected it as tight as possible.  Went downtown to a local Appliance store and found they had taken the day off (Boxing Day here in Geneva???).  Time to spend some $$$ on a new Clothes washer, as the old one no longer is working well...  Also waiting to hear from the plumber (Handyman) on replacing the faucets leading to the washer before I get the new one installed.  Read all the meters and sent the readings in to the Gas and Electric Company....

Tomorrow I need to start cleaning the house and get another batch of squash ready to take to my Sister's house on Wednesday to have Christmas at her house..... (she isn't happy that my son and his family didn't just cancel Christmas with all the rest of the family so they could go spend the day with her....... Whistling

Hope all of you are having a great 3rd. day of Christmas (if you celebrate)!

Back from dinner, food was good kids were loud, lol. Just a miserable night out weather wise as it's  pouring rain on top of all that snow. You can see rivers of water running down the streets.

that pretty much wraps Christmas for another year. Have New Years dinner next week but the wife and I don't do anything for New Years. Christmas came fast and went fast. Seems each year comes and goes so quick.

hope all you guys had a good Christmas. Im off until Thursday but just want two days of nothing, lol

Ken - Sounds like you had a nice Chirstmas after all ! On the PM I use YGW. ther are only a few that I have emailed with my real name. When you get a chance can you send the email.

Ulrich - What a nice thing to be a part of both the donation and helping with your friends MRR for his grandchildren

Jeremy - Well I bet you were disappointed not being able to play with the kids !

Lion - Loved your ornaments : )

Galaxy - No trains ?

Steve - What did Santa bring you ?

Everyone else - Merry Christams Big Smile and Angelfor those in need

Train front : Ftg inspection failed ! How can one fail ftg inspection on solid rock ! SoapBox - Unbeleivable ! Worse the inspector left no notes on why he failed and they do not have  a website that allows one to look up notes on why the inspection failed !!! Bang Head

Afternoon Diners,

It's been an all right Christmas. I finished up taking down the lights and undecordared the Christmas tree. Unfortunately the extension cord is still on the roof. I can't get up on the roof because of the dented/ broken ladder (yes we still have it) almost made me fall. The extension cord will stay until further notice.

Going to parents later on for dinner. Was hoping I could tak kids out to play street hockey in tennis court in park but its raining now. Figures, last two weekends we have been hammered with snow and this weekend it's been warm and rainy allowing the snow to melt. It's that cruddy looking snow now with dirt, mud sand and melting ground, which really never thawed hard yet. will pop back in later on tonight

This is "returns day" at major stores, when everyone (well, ladies, mostly) rushes to the mall to bring back gifts they don't want.  It's a zoo.  I won't go near any shopping venue like this for a few days until the crowds thin back to normal.

There looks are growing on me, even with it looking like they have brake wheels on the roof.

Here's a shot of your 167 with the same "brake-wheel" antenna:

Or the 164:

I'm glad you are enjoying the Goodies, Ken. Have you had a chance to compare the other E7/E8 QSI decoder I sent? I just wondered if it matches the one you have that is bad?

What do you think of those LEDs? There are two different sizes there and each has a slightly different shade of white. They fit very nicely in the Proto groove where the old bulb used to go.

Well, lots of busy chores ahead. I have three fellows visiting on Thursday and have to get the rest of the carpet tiles in and the layout straightened out a wee bit...

I'll check in later...

I got a sneak-peek at the new menu for the 2017 diner Big Smile

Seventy-five cents for Sardines! In 2016 dollars that's $10.40! Too rich for MY blood. Refugee String Beans?

Refugee Beans were reputedly brought to America and England by Huguenots (Protestants) from France. Huguenots were persecuted during the period from 1618 to 1787. During the "high point" (from 1618 to 1725), between 5 to 7 thousand Huguenots moved to America. The bean was certainly in America at least by 1774, because it was mentioned on the 16 November 1774 in the Pennsylvania Gazette under one of its synonyms -- "Valentine Bean."

Now you know...

Good morning after y'all,

Just returned from a shopping spree at Walmart. At 50%off, hauled in about$100 worth of Christmas decorations and supplies. Among them 2 lighted garland (should have bought 3 or 4 more), a plain lighted wreath and some trimming for it, a decorated door wreath, GIANT Christmas bulb ( about 6-8" tall) set 4' long with 4 bulbs each, they will be the new fall winter sidewalk lights, various ribbons, a new medium sized Nativity set, ornaments ( the few that are worth owning), and of course wrapping paper and bows and wrapping boxes, and who knows what else...

Whew!?!

Santa was decent to me this year. Of course I knew some of what he was bringing, lol. Among them from MOH was a new Titanium ring with 5 diamond s ( no I didn't buy it). No train stuff, but didn't want any this year.

Well I literally FELL out of bed awake this morning. Getting up was the trick, as I tore my ACL ( anterior cruciate ligament) and the MCL ( medial collateral ligament) in my R knee so it will no longer lift me up.

I will definitely feel the PAIN from THAT episode tomorrow

Have a great day, I'm going back to finish sleeping

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal on the rocks, Saint Nick and I will have a Beer please.

It was a pretty good Christmass over all. But I am sure glad it is over! Did a lot of cleaning for the wife. Vacuumed the living room, dinning room, kitchen, hallway and bathroom. Scrubbed the bathroom fixctures and title floor on my hands, OK I wond up sitting on my caboose. Cooked the ham, chopped up stuff for the dressing, made my stuffing and washed the dishes as I went.

Great Year for presents to me! Well that was because of Santa ED. Daughter got me new sweat suit, 3rd one in 3 years? I am still using the one from 3 years agoConfused Of all things she bought me a wedding ring, nothing sick mind you. I just lose wedding rings, this will be number 6. Most of the time it is while doing Honey Do's.

Train Front. Last night I had the Mighty B&O F7a's on the rails! Yes Seems the F7a decided it was Roy Clark becuse it was picking and grinning! Smile I did some checking and it looked like the front truck was hitting the ladder? Tonight I pulled the shell and the B&O F7a tracked fine. Guess the shell was not on just right?

Neither Mighty B&O F7's sound was working? Funny the CB&Q QSI decoders have not given me any griff? While the Mighty B&O F7a shell is off I will replaces the speaker that Santa Ed sent and do a hard reset of the decoder. Will all so do a reset of the B unit.

If I cannot get the sound going again, I am fine with that! They are great looking, tracking and great pullers! Plus, they are B&O!

Ed I have enjoyed every thing you have sent. I was all ready a B&O fan and the Mighty B&O F7a are great. Yes I know I have had a lot of problems with them. I am thankful I have them to have problems with! CB&Q are geart running and no problem engines! [knocking on wood] There looks are growing on me, even with it looking like they have brake wheels on the roof. I am really struck with the Bessemer SD 9. New road name to my layout and love the colors!

Hope you all had as Great As Christmass as I.

Merry Christmas to all my forum friends. The weather is scrambling Christmas plans for everyone in my region. We are under a BLIZZARD WARNING. In my case, my Mom was feeling sick this morning and decided that she didn't want me to catch it. (The threat of the weather didn't help either.)

On a more positive note, got some models for the group as a Christmas present. They are old (Probably as old as I am.) AHM/Rivarossi U25Cs. Changes from stock are: the nose rails, end rails, brakewheel, and nose are painted NP Yellow (Badger); addition of Kadee 146 Whiskers; a Details Associates firecracker antenna and Details West weedcutter plows. The decals are from the NP hood unit set (132) and the BN diesels set (251). They are destined to go into coal service on my layout.

HOME DE-PoT is, as far as I know, hte only one who deals with Ryobi,

I believe that Ryobi is a Home Depot house brand, like Craftsman is to Sears.

WHALE...

The Ryobitools website says thet they are sold exclusively at Home Depot, but you can also get them on Amazon.

On the Roybi website the following notation is found:

"Ryobi-brand power tools and outdoor products are sold, distributed and serviced in North America through third-party licensees of the Ryobi® trademark. Click on the following links for further information :"

Apparently Roybi is a rather big firm selling all over the world, but uses HD as its outlet in the USA.

So it would not appear to be an HD brand.

Merry Christmas diners,

All desserts are on me for the day.

Galaxy- it's nice to see you.

Ulrich- Those grandkids look like their having fun.

ATSFGuy- That's a good looking LGB train set around the tree.

It rained and very windy yesterday. The wind was so strong it knocked over one of our neighbors wooden fence. I noticed the fence posts were rotten. One house lost a portion of roofing materials.

HO HO HO!
Merry Christmas!

I Hope every one got what they wanted from Santa!

I got my Ryobi Tire inflator and small bluetoothed radio today, finally, the radio works just DANDY.

I will check out the tire inflater later.

* Note on RYOBI....I do believe LION and I are correct. As I said I thought Home De-POT was the only one to carry them.

They may be available on Amazon...but are they brand new, unreconditioned???? OR USED? Or just Home De-POT's closeouts that didn't sell?

One CAN sell things on Amazon if one becomes an Amazonian!

CDs that I want, sometimes hard to find, are found on Amazon, some cheaply cause they ARE USED, others EXPENSIVE as they are HARD to get. I pass on expensive used items!

So HO HO HO  off to my father's and to "Family", part of whom will be missing due to hav ing the NASTY stomach/intestinal thingy that is going around, I already had it, so should be safe. But they will stay away.

GOOD thing IS, if you get it it only last 24-48 hours at the most!

In order to keep my position as Master and Supreme Ruler of the House, I don't argue with my wife.

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk. Laugh

to all my friends in this forum, wherever you are in the world!

We are having a quiet day here. Petra is making final preps for tomorrow´s dinner with our son, while I am able to "steal" a goodie now and then.

Claus sent some more pics of his grandson Max enjoying the trains, together with one of the twin cousins. The steam loco had a bit of a glitch after resting 20+ years in a box, but nothing a tiny drop of WD-40 couldn´t cure!

Judging from the picture, this present hit right home!

Blessings to all!
