Good Afternoon!
I was busy all morning, writing up a political editorial comment for an online newspaper, which has already published a number of articles I wrote. There is no money in it and no fame, just for the fun of letting off some steam! It also helped me to set my mind on other issues.

Barry - that´s good news! Carry on improving!
The Bemo track on my layout proves to be a bad choice! It was for free, so I have no reason to complain, but keepin the track clean is a major hassle. Actually, the track is not made by Bemo, but by Shinohara and, honestly, the quality is not that of Peco track. So far, I have used one of those track cleaning rubbers, but they provide help only for a rather short period of time. This time I tried something new (to me) - I took a metal polish paste design to clean and polish stainless steel sinks et. al. and carefully rubbed it onto the railheads. After it had dried I polished it off and the trains seem to run a lot better. I think this is what is called "gleaming", isn´t it?
Well, lets wait and see the long term effects of it.
Ken - I don´t think I am chasing high standards. Wait until you see those areas you don´t see in the pictures!
YGW - I agree the layout deserves to be populated by some figures. I still have quite a few left over from previous activities, but cannot place them as long as I don´t have the catenary erected. With my luck, I glue the figures exactly where a mast has to be.
Good to hear the news on your SIL´s improvement!
Janie, coffee and a cinnamon roll, please!
yougottawanta. . .SIL update - it seems things are taking a turn for the better finally. The saw bones have her on a new med which seems to be helping her greatly and she is starting to show signs of improvement and better decesion making ( she had brain damage in the area of the brain that makes decisions ). . .
This is great news. I can't remember, did they catch the %#$%s that did this to her?
Yesterday on the flight back from Philadelphia I watched "Patani, The Accidental Death of a Cyclist". It is a decent bio-pic on the rise and fall of a gifted Italian Cyclist, as well as a scathing review of the corruption that existed in international cycling. (Mr. B, you might find this quite interesting.) It is available on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
Richard
Peeking in the back window, to see if Vinny is here. Is he still looking for me???
Flip
Nope, Flip - Vinnie´s on a vacation, Steven is sitting in for him!
Good to see ya again!
V8VegaSo far today it still works, I had to sign in, if it stops working I think I will go to Gmail as then I can change from Verizon as my internet if I want to.
I am still with Comcast, but several years ago I started using Gmail for my email needs. I like the Gmail screen much better. I set up the old Comcast account to forward all my mail to Gmail, and to send a notice to the sender that I had changed to Gmail and they should send all subsequent mail to Gmail.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Whoa, Tuesday Night Hockey was tough last night. I'm still not quite over this cold, and my energy level isn't what it should be. Besides that, we were a bit short on guys so I didn't get as much help from my defense as I would have liked. I'm feeling better now after sleeping in for a while this morning.
I can't find a model church that fits my space, location and budget without looking like tacky plastic, so I plan to scratchbuild one. For some reason, it took me until this morning to realize that the first step should be to make a cardstock mock-up of the church, so I can not only plan from there, but also use the mock-up to place the pink foam for the scenery.
I'll have to do an inventory of what windows I've already got, and then see what I can find at the Greenberg train show this weekend. After that, I'll plan a trip to Northeastern Scale Lumber. They've actually got a small shop nearby. I'd much rather browse in a shop than browse through a catalog. Limited hours, but I'm retired. I can find the time.
Hey all
Looks like spring has sprung here. Daffodils are up, saw some crazy guy mowing aleady and a farmer plowing his field.
It is a sunny 70 + degrees here in Northern Va. Unpacked a few more train boxes this week. Who knows maybe soon I can start running the YGW express !!
Richard - They have two or three guys in custody. Since they took them into custody we have not heard much except they were going to charge them with attempted murder. I tell you I do not know how anyone could be that rotten of a human being to sink to such low as to try to burn a single mother alive after beating the crud out of her. I just do not understand how a person becomes that warped. By Gods grace that is not me. I couldnt live with myself if I became that person.
Ulrich - Thanks, I have a packet of HO scale people that I can donate to your RR if you want them. Just let me know.
BO Cylinder - glad to hear you are doing better.
Ken - PM me the cost. Not sure right now. The frig compressor is bad and teh cost of the compreser is $600. Plus install. PM me the cost and I will scrap the bottom of the cookie jar and see if I have enough.
Howmus - I can empathize with you. My wife passed away in April also, two weeks before my youngest daughters Birthday. I am sorry and I understand. I used to look forward to spring. The first few years after her death I dreaded spring. It hurts less now. But the pain is still there.
JPowell - That sound like a lot of red tape. Another example of why I dont want Gov. in my health care buisness.
Jim - Any cherry pie left over ?
Mr. B. - That is two subject matter that I thought I would NEVER hear put together, someone retired and them playing Hockey. Amazing !
Its about to get super busy here in NOVA. Gotta get back to w**k

Afternoon everybody,
Lately I been zoning out with my layout planning.
Since the bi yearly trash pick up (like branches, tv's, toilets, etc) comes on the 14th. I was chopping spike trees that surrounds the clothesline for summer hanging.
I was expecting a book in the mail The Freight Cars of the 1940s and 50s. But my book never arrived, and I wrote them yesterday and their also surprised by that. I can't contact the mail office because they didn't give a tracking number or were they company is located.

Howdy everybody ..
Barry ... Glad you are finally home, and I hope your health continues to improve. Take care of yourself.
YGW .... Don't work too hard and don't get too much stress. ... It is good to hear Kelly is improving.
Lion .... I thought a subway was a sandwich.
Cheers, everybody.

Subway is a sandwich - the "underground" is the correct term as defined by the British in the 1860's

I'll get out now before the bun fight begins.

Loco Guy - is a state of mind - not an affinity to locomotives.
Sit back and enjoy your track...
LOCO_GUYSubway is a sandwich
No, No! Subway is a place that makes sandwiches called subs, grinders, hoages, and a few other names...... Sheesh!
Evenin folks!
Janie, I just need a cup of decaf to finish off the meal I just ate... Wasn't much, just BBQ chicken thigh and some corn and a couple other odds and ends I wanted to use up...
This morning I headed out to the ENT Docs for my appointment. everything went well and the only real thing he did was to clean out my right ear that was impacted whith wax... I can hear with that ear again.... Then headed over to be at my son's house when the granddaughters got off the bus from shool (half day yesterday and today). We had lunch and then headed outside where granddaughter #1 decided to sweep off all the pine needles and other leaves and stuff on the deck back of thier house so we could have a pretend picnic... I was relieved from that about halfway through the afternoon. Came back home checked my email and put on some decent clothes to go down to one of the churches in town for a wake... I think I mentioned it last night. Didn't stay too long there but did get to chat with with a couple of the children of the deceased whom I taught and several other people I know. Sad to have to go to something like that to talk with people who you know and care about..... Looks like the MLK committee will be donateing a chunk of money to help the wife out with some expensis she has too deal with. She did tell me the plumbing problem got repaired so she is at least back in her own home. She lives just a couple blocks away from my house.
OK... I have some other things to attend too. I'll catch you all later!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Happy spring break, everyone. Actually, we are smack dab in the middle of it. And i finally have the home computer working again, so I can post from home.
Son and his girlfriend were here over Sunday through Tuesday; home for a couple of days on his spring break. Of course, we had to clean house like we were hosting the governor....
Daughter flies home Friday; of course, why her college can't be in sync with son and me?
Bluebonnets are out; if you have never seen them, they are awesome. Made a roadtrip today to Salado, TX to visit an artist, to purchase a print for my office of, bluebonnets! Everything else on my walls are trains except for my degrees...
42° 99% humidity. What does Ulrich say about rust in Hamburg?
Running around getting stuff together for taxes and I need to put some compost in the garden and get some early vegetables in the ground.
The hot Dr. Jenny said I am good to go for another 4 months, then another echo. I have couplers to work on, and need to start arranging track on the new benchwork. Then there is the honeydo list. Oy veh.
Have a good day guys

Although it´s past lunchtime, I could easily wolf down a Barry-sized burger with all the works! Janie - if you please ...!
A subway is neither an underground railway, nor a sandwich - it´s an underpass! As they say, they only thing dividing the US and the UK is the common language
I am not sure whether Spring has sprung in my neck of the woods, but it is a bright and sunny day, though not really warm - still in the single digit zone (in Centigrade, of course). More improvement hopefully to come over the next days.
No MRRing will be getting done today. Before I continue to work on adding details to the scenery, I want to get that backdrop installed, but that will not happen without the help of a friend. None of them are available at the moment. So I might just run my train a few laps around the track.
Soem of you may remember me posting a video on a Z scale layout being built on a foam benchwork. Well, here is the now complete layout, filmed at a train show in Switzerland:
The layout perfectly captures the scenery and the spirit of that part of the Italian Riviera coast.
Have a great one!
Afternoon everyone! Whew! .....pant, pant, pant....
Chloe, I just need my Cherribundy Light, a banana, and an English Muffin for Brunch, please.... I finally reached my first major goal this morning over at the Feildhouse. Walked two miles (11 laps plus enough around and off onto the walkway to qualify...). Did it in 43 minutes start to finish. Certainly not world class, but I kept on hoofing until I made it. Felt good!
Sun has been out most of the day so far. Should be a good one for the Electric meter. Already had 6.4 kWH by 11:30 when the first read of the day is done now (they haven't yet changed for DST).
I think today I shall clean out my dresser drawers and bag up all of the old clothes that I will never wear again. I try to do that every decade or so..... I also need to spend some time doing the schedule for the morning session for the NMRA Meet the end of April. Still need to find two more layouts to be open for the afternoon visits...
Galaxy, appears to be missing this morning???
Catch you all later!
Hello all
Where is GALAXY and Ken today ? Heeeelllllllloooooo you guys home ? Der miss your post !
V8 - You all charge for that ? Here do it free and take up a collection for those that want to help offset teh expense. Must be some production ! 200 people !
Howmus - What did you Qaulify for ?
Henry - oh geez - honey do list !
Tin Can - What is a Blue Bonnet ?
Chris - What ? Unground ? No its a subway ... see lions photo...
Lion - yes that is a subway ! See Chris it even says so in Lions photo !
Angel - Sound like spring has hit there also - sounds like spring yard work and spring cleaning stuff...
Garry - There is so much about my current occupation that is stressful. For instance today I had a very heated argument with a county inspector. They failed to show yesterday as scheduled and then got smart mouth me and made some untrue accusations and then refused to make the inspection. That argument gor really heated. Then there is the day to day grind of getting people to follow basic safety, perform the contract they signed to do, to show up as scheduled, site inspectors, building inspectors, energy start inspectors, meetings, Home owner complaints and service....I think if my heart condition gets worse I may have to find something else to do. The level of stress here is through teh roof ! Thanks for the advice
No model RR after work today have to go to a friends house and help him fix his front door.
Good Evening!
The sun´s down, time for a !
The temperature jumped well into the two-digit region early this afternoon, so Spring has finally sprung in my neck of the woods. Petra drove me to the DIY place, so I could by a bottle of paint to paint the facia. I decided on a dark grey, but they had this only as a semi-gloss paint, so I got a cheap latex paint instead, which worked nicely.
Another little step forward!
Where are Galaxy and Ken? John hasn´t been in here for a few days as well ...
I just got my ProtonMail account setup. It is an open-source, free, email service that encrypts your inbox so no one, and that means no one, but you can read the mail in your inbox. Make sure you don't loose/forget the decryption password for your inbox, or you won't be able to read your mail either. Also, any email sent to another PM user will be encrypted in transit--no one can listen in.
(Vinnie: This is not a promotional post. I am in no way affiliated with ProtonMail. I am just giving an update on what I did today. I am also NOT encouraging this to turn into a political discussion.)
Ulrich: I am in awe. 'Nuf said.
yougottawantaChris - What ? Unground ? No its a subway ...Whistling see lions photo... Lion - yes that is a subway ! See Chris it even says so in Lions photo !
LION's photo of Mar 16 was indeed a subway train running on my intrpretetion of the Franklin Avenue line.
Tody's photo is of a Budd Rail Car departing the Smith 9th Street Station on the Express Track. The signals were somewhat of interest.,
Evening Dinners
Flo, please.
Have not posted the last few day's. While I have plenty to post about, just have not felt like it.
Did a lot of running Wed. Drove 60 miles and was ever farer than 10 miles from my house. Got Taxes done for free at the Glen Carbon IL Libary. Sweet Libary, best I have been too in years. It even has a HO train layout!
Rant I hate laws that make you do something! I hate Motorcycle Helmet Law's, but I belive in Helmet's! I hate seat belt laws, but I belive in Seat Belt's! What this rant is about is mandatory Health Insurances. While I am thankful Sue is covered I hate the fact I have to have it. Plus, you have to guess what you will make in a year. In my case it is close to impossible. Because of Drunk Dave I made a extra $3000.00 in over time, which is good. Down side the first time I in my life I owe the Fed's.
While I owe only $12.00, I owe. Plus I normally let the VA take my Med's cost from my taxes, not this year! I got to Pony up $241.00 to the VA.
yougottawantaWhat is a Blue Bonnet ?
YGWA Blue Bonnet is Santa Fe freight color, Blue and Yellow. I will try to call you Friday, or give me a call at the store.
Yard Wars I worked in the backyard for about 2 hours and I was done. What I thought was going to be easy beat the stuff out of me. Only got about 25% of what I wanted to get done, done.

Actually, that is not necessarily a bad thing. It means that you have been able to use your money all year, as opposed to you giving the government an interest-fee loan. I find it confusing when people get all excited about getting a huge refund. Again, all it means is the the government has been using their money.
Evening Diners,
Ken- The locomotive on the right is a yellow bonnet.
Ulrich- I like the gray paint for the layout.
I finally got my book in the mail, it got a little damage but it will flatten out. It was shipped in the UK.
Welp I am home. Went straight to a honeydo - kids somehow clogged the toilet. Unclogged it no problem. MOH had dinner ready when I walked in the door and she had worked too ! got a good one guys !
Angel - LOL Is that UK as in UnKnown parts ?
Ken - there are two things you can count on in life - Death and Taxes - I am with you lot of what is law I think we should have the choice.
Lion are soooo smart ! They know that subways go underground and wildebeast taste good !
Richard - Watch out big brother is looking !!!
Ulrich - your modeling is terrific
Galaxy - you okay ???
Welp gotta git the kids off to bed and showered.
Bluebonnets are second cousins to lupen, their flower structure being very similar.
My brother lives in the Texas Hill Country, and this time of the year the grassland is a virtual sea of blue, quite pleasing to the eye.
herrinchoker
Bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas. They come out every spring, and are beautiful. I'll try to get a picture posted.
Santa Fe F units painted blue and silver were called bluebonnets; the yellow and silver F units are called yellowbonnets. Some folks call the later era GP & SD yellow and blue warbonnet yellowbonnets as well.
Hi diners,I've been staking your group from the beginning of the month and I think it's about time I said "Hi". I love reading your posts, it feels like a family in here.Tin Can was explaining the bluebonnets thing and mentioned "warbonnets". I've seen that word a lot around trains, but can someone please explain to me what a "warbonnet" is. I asked Google and it told me it is a fish. Somehow I don't think it was catching my drift.Lion - Excellent photos. Did you make the signals yourself? If so, how big are those LEDs?Ulrich - Gotta work now.Later folks.
Lucas.
