I share the prayers and concern for the people of Belgium. Ulrich expresses it well, ‘nuf said.
Zoe, could you rustle up a
and some dark roast coffee please.  Driveway’s done and dusted, as they say. Chores today as we have dinner guests (friend’s birthday). Hope there’s time over for some more measuring and possibly a stab at plotting the track positions on the layout as a result.
Ken: That’s really good news about Sue’s foot. Please let her know she’s in our thoughts Angel
Der I really like the old HO layout you had! Do you by chance have any more photos you can share? What grade did you run?
Short answer is Yes.  Longer answer is I’ve too many. So, I think I’ll create a Photobucket Album and put a selection there, then post a link. Give me a while to do that, as very few are scanned.  Grade? IIRC it was about 1.5% except there was a partial Helix buried in the scenery which was steeper, and a HOn30 line which again was more than 1.5% Most of the main line was flat until the return loop in a utility room at one end and that helix at the other. I doubt I’ve a track plan any more as it was in the 90s and two moves ago.
A peninsula layout with a bi-level arm along a wall leading to a hole (purpose built with the house!) into a utility room where the main descended around the walls to exit at the lower level back along the long wall to climb again to grade via that bit of a helix. The HOn30 was on the far side of the peninsula and serviced an oil well (did I mention this was Alberta?) Made the oil tanks from blood test meter test strips! LOL  Freight and passenger with not very modern diesel locos.
Welcome back Reinhard happy to make your acquaintance.
Better get on with the chores.  Later.

Good day everyone.

Flo, a crepe made with bacon, eggs, and cheddar cheese. Plus, a gallon of coffee.

Going to enjoy my day off by putting off, again, getting my taxes done, and take it easy until I go hiking (hopefully) with a buddy thus afternoon, I've not gone hiking in at least a month or more so it's time.

On the MR side, I upgraded a Sunset PRR 130P75 tender with parts from a BLI K4s 110P75 tender, the back up light, marker lights, and the wiring conduit. Plus many Cal-Scale parts for the brakes, and water scoop. I would have preffered all brass parts for the tender, but they were not available. Next, I'll adapt the BLI trucks as I like the electrical wipers already put in.
I also have two Bowser N5 cabin cars and two Red Caboose X29 boxcars crying out for me to paint them. I tried mixing some Pollyscale to look like FCC and did not like the results. Going to try again. The boxcars I'm thinking of painting the 30s shade of FCC, using Pollyscale again, and the cabin cars will be painted using Tru-Color's PRR freight car brown.

Cheers,
Alvie

Why I feel uncomfortable visiting the MR forum

It´s because I feel subjected to censorship and not moderation. IMHO,Steven has clearly crossed that fine but important line. We know the rules, and by and large, we play by them. There is no need to issue what he calls a precautionary warning.

I don´t visit places where I feel uncomfortable or not welcome.

Hmm. All I read was a preemptive warning about a topic that could devolve into a religous or political discussion. I did not read anything that criticized any existing posts.

Richard,

should I stay at home because something could happen if I go outside? Are we children who need to be warned as a precautionary measure?

This place is no longer my place!

Sir Madog

Richard,

should I stay at home because something could happen if I go outside? Are we children who need to be warned as a precautionary measure?

This place is no longer my place!

Ulrich,

This is a place to discuss model railroads. Not a place to discuss divisive topics like religion and politics. If that bothers you, then I guess you don't understand the point of our providing this Forum.

Mornin' folks!

Janie, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and a large pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled for the rest of the morning!

I am finally starting to feel better today.  Got a solid nights sleep last night as well.  Have some catching up to do on things I didn't do while I felt like crap...

Ulrich, I can with certainty say that Steven was not warning you with his comment....  You already stated you weren't going to say anything more than sympathy to the victims of a horrible series of events...  My sympathy and prayers go out to all victims involved in this crime as well.  Steven was acting to slow down some who would most probably start spewing some inappropriate comments aimed at others.  (And probably will anyway...)  I for one like this site in part because there is good active moderation here.  So, be cool, my friend.  We all care about you and don't want to see you put yourself in medical harm (heart trouble, etc) because of the horror going on in the world.  Go review the "Serenity Prayer..."

I hope all of you have a good, peaceful, and productive day out there!  Stay safe!!

Huh?

Thanks for that Mr. Otte,  we sure do not want to lose our Dear German Buddy.

Ulrich, I see nothing that was directed personaly to you.  We all know you better than that. But, there are some that take off on a tangent very quickly and I believe that is what Mr. Otte was referring to.

I was personally spoken to at one time for having a Biblical referrance in my signature line. I certainly knew who they were talking to, and even though it was a very neutral but inviting statement that I felt good about using, I took no personal offence for them not wanting it here. We have to thicken our skin at times and I know that you know that as well.

We all want you here amoung us as we learn much from you as well as just enjoying our association with you. You are indeed a part of the Diner just as others are and Jeff was.  As Archie Bunker said often to Edith, "stifle yourself " from time to time and I think it will be easier on your health too. We all appreciate you and care for you and Petra, and want you here with us.

It was nothing that you said, it was what it might lead to and was just a heads up for those who might want to go on and flame that terrible situation that has happened.

I think you can take this to heart, that all of us here including the staff at MR. do not condon the actions that have taken place in the name of                                            _ _ _ _, but we will not give them any space here either.

Love ya man,  keep hanging in there and look after your health, your good Wife and Friends.

Well I hope Ulrich hasn't left in a huff.  I sent him a pm.

Bleach: we were talking about that a month ago or so, about heat deactivating it.  Turns out nearly every place on the Internet says that is true.  The only one who denies the science of that is Clorox, the company that makes it.  They say heat is harmful for longterm storage but activates it when you use it.

Now that I remembered that, I wish I could remember where I put the big bag of truck screws I bought on Ebay or my rail joiners.  My attempt to lay the first rail last night came to an abrupt halt.

I did not know Jerry was brain damaged.  That explains a lot.  My neighbor adopted a kid with fetal alcohol syndrome.  He is 13 now and besides having a violent streak he has no appreciation of cause and effect.  We hired him to shovel snow and he threw the snow on the left side of the driveway on the right side.  If he doesn't want to finish dinner, he may hide it...behind a bookcase.

The doctor is in a tizzy because my potassium is too high from one of my meds.  Told me not to eat bananas and cut my med in half.  Now if you took bananas instead of potassium horse pills, you would have to eat 4 of them to make up for 2 pills.   If that's the worst of the medical news in the diner, we are all doing well for a change.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer Please and why are there broken plates in the parking lot?

This is a place to discuss model railroads.

Steve This site helped me a lot when I got started in the hobby and I felt welcome when I came here. I all so thank the site for allowing us to have Jefferys Dinner. But is not this the one place on the site where we can talk about other things beside train's?

I think the warning was uncalled for my self. Like when I was a teenager and I wanted to grow my hair long. The junior high school princpal told me it was the first step to smoking dope and drugs! He was wrong! In this case I think you step over the line with the warning.

If something is posted that should not be, just delete it and PM the member.

Ulrich Well maybe you just need to be a little thicker skin about some things. You took it personally and it was not about you in this case far as I can see. Stop reading between the line's my friend.

 Later, Ken

Good morning diners,

Could I have some coffee beans to chew on please? This week's been too long already.

I have a question for the fine people of this here establishment. How did you decide which railroad you want to model?

Thank you for your time.

Lucas.

PS Ulrich - Thanks for the eBay suggestion. I found quite a few good leads for passangers for my cars.

PPS YGW - Thanks for getting me addicted to cake again. I'll be sending you the bill for the new wardrobe. Big Smile

Gentlemen, because of a few forays a couple of months back, I believe Mr. Otte is merely trying to be proactive and head 'em off at the pass, so to speak.

Ulrich: please don't take this stuff personal.  I don't believe for a second that it was aimed at you.

Nuff said.

Lucas: I would hazard a guess that most of us choose to model railroads that were/are in the locale where we grew up.

However, some folks become interested in for example narrow gauge or logging roads later and do research and fan trips to study them.

Anyway you look at it, it's all fun.

well, off to work

Hello to all and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Lucus ... What railroad to model ?

I grew up next to the Burlington Route west of Chicago inthe 1950's to early 1960's. I could see the trains from my house, and could easily walk to the location in the photo below. A suburabn station is in the picture. The locomotives are F3's with a GP7 in the middle.

Coffee please, hold the orange juice and the banana.

Growning up outside of Baltimore, I saw much less of the B&O, WM and Ma & Pa than you might imagine.  The M&P ran it's last train that passed near my house when I was 4 or 5 and I remember that I saw it once.  My grandparents lived near Johnstown and we saw some of the Pennsy on the way there.  Mountainous, at least my Appalachian standards, small towns, coal mines and farms.  It was and still is a pretty area, but modern development has encroached.  One can now see llamas from where my grandfathers farm used to be.

My last layout was of the general area of Western Maryland, PA, WV land my own line the PNRR.  I'm not a rivet counter modeler, so I can have whatever locos that suit my fancy.

My next RR is still at the beginning stages of a yard.  I love the west and the scenery of say a Durango & Silverton and if I were starting from the scratch, I might go in that direction.

LION has been to conferences, CEs to keep his nursing license current. Then him went to the Urologist to schedual a TUR-P. (If you do not know what that is, ask your grandmother... She will tell you all about grandpa's TUR-P.

After this I stopped at Paneras to get some pecan twists (for desert) and then went to the Blarney Stone to have a Dinner of Sirloin of LAMB (rare) and other vegitables.

LION is now 'ome, and must worry about putting ]puters in order.

Hello all

Having lived where murders have attacked, had a friend killed at the Pentagon and know several personnelly that were there at the Pentagon and injured in that attack. I have had the planes of war fly over me in this area as they seek to protect us. I understood that there is a danger and that is unsettling.

To those that are now in fear or are hurt and angry I would like to encourage you to be brave and dont give in to these emotions as strong as they are. I too have wanted to hurt those that have hurt us. But living in Freedom with out hurt or anger is the best reposonse - it says we will give into their hate and their works of destruction.

Here is a prayer for all in need Angel

Henry - My father had low potassium levels once. That is very dangerous. Be careful my friend.

UP 831 - LOL - Little coffee with that cream ? Coffee is such a delightful drink. It can be fixed so many different ways. Who was that asked for just coffee beans to chew on ? Man talk about a coffee buzz !!

Lucas - How about some pie too ? Dinner Stick out tongue

V8 - What is a Del Sols

Ken - Nice talking to you yesterday. Sorry I had to run. Man that last photo looks like a bull mounting a cow ! How did the engineer get out of that loco with out a ladder ?

Alvie - 30 shades of FCC ?

Der - is that REAL BACON ? Oh man that looks good ! I am only allowed that fake Turkey bacon nowadays because of my heart and weight issues Sigh Is that a castle on your design ? Yes - LOL she does blather on a little ! But I still love her as a friend. She is such a nice person and loves God too.

Reinhard - Responded to your PM. Glad you are back home safe and sound !

Loco - I LOL at  your understand the dog and the "Look" I have seen that look at times myself too.

Gotta rum TTYL

Morni.....  Uh....  Hmmmmmm???  Guess it is afternoon now!  So Good afternoon folks!

Chloe, I just need a bottle of Cheribundy Light and a bananna to keep me going at the moment.

Got about 10 minutes before I need to head out to Canandaigua to get the front end allienment on the PIP checked and fixed as needed....  While I am in Canandaigua, I will stop down to the local hand made chocolate store.  Need to buy my gifts to the family for Easter....  I'm sure I will be getting way more than I should that day.  After church we all head to Canandaigua to a Ritzy Motel/conference Center on the lake for their rather over priced Easter "get out of having to cook anything for the Family Yourself" Buffét.  That is to please my sister who has insisted on this for the last 30 or so years...   It's "TRADITION........  Tradition!!!  (Think "Fiddler".)  Then I get to drive back home change out of the high priced clothes and head over to my son's house for a wonderful family meal.  Much more enjoyable for me...  We have tried to talk my sister out of this and have her come to my son's house, but it is way too far to drive and she doesn't know everyone (meaning, she can't dominate all the conversation....  ahem!).

I digress....  Weather here in the words of Barry, Dull!  Partly dull with darker dull at times and lots of dull for the rest of the day.  High today will be 41°F maybe.  And maybe not.....

Speaking of Barry, where he?  And where is Galaxy too???

Gotta get moving...  Catch you all later!

Good afternoon Diners: It's been snowing all morning and through the early afternoon - but hey, it's Spring... Looking forward to going to Moncton for the Train Show on Saturday - overnighting Friday so the cat will "have the con".

Lucas:
I have a question for the fine people of this here establishment. How did you decide which railroad you want to model?
…That’s a toughie for me. I’m not at all sure I know just what I’m going to settle on for this current (Yeah – I’ve actually got some lines drawn on the sub-roadbed and some lose track sections laying about – so yes, “current” it is!) I’ve two Western Maryland liveried locos in storage – and my RDC is New Jersey. I think all the rest are undecorated. My idea is definitely North America; and I live in Canada – so if push comes to shove, it’ll probably end up representing leased equipment with a simple to replicate paint scheme. That doesn’t  help much probably; except talking it out helps me! Smile, Wink & Grin
(by up831) However, some folks become interested in for example narrow gauge or logging roads later and do research and fan trips to study them.
– in my case a Nn3 tourist line will be based on the sort of thing one can find in Wales – but budget over-rules accuracy as a practical consideration in all of the above.

LION:
Then him went to the Urologist to schedual a TUR-P. (If you do not know what that is, ask your grandmother... She will tell you all about grandpa's TUR-P.
This grand pa feels your pain! I won’t bore y’all with how he knows.

YGW:
Who was that asked for just coffee beans to chew on ? Man talk about a coffee buzz !!
– someone gave me a pack of dark chocolate roasted coffee beans a year or three ago. Took me a while to chew though those but they were good!
Der - is that REAL BACON ? Oh man that looks good ! I am only allowed that fake Turkey bacon nowadays because of my heart and weight issues
I use the chicken variant for Sunday breakfast – microwaved for 80 secs – turned and given another 75. Topped with scrambled eggs and all on multigrain toast, yum!Dinner
Is that a castle on your design ?
..indeed and a prototypically accurate one to boot. Google ISBN 0-486-24663-9 for all the wondrous details. It’s as close to N scale as fits my needs and given it probably 20 years ago and now is the time for it to become my tourist attraction.

Someone mentioned putting off doing their taxes. Got me thinking – I’ve now got all the slips, &etc. needed, so I picked up the forms and Guide from the Post Office today, and have begun to marshal bits and bobs. Something else which I don’t relish – but there is a satisfaction to be had when it’s over! Bang Head – better get on with that…

LUCAS DE WET

I have a question for the fine people of this here establishment. How did you decide which railroad you want to model?

When I first got interested in railroads, I went to the public library and devoured all the books they had. One particular book, Narrow Gauge in Ohio by John Hauck, for some reason spoke to me -- probably because the railroad was set in Ohio, where I lived at the time, during the golden age of steam, my favorite time period. So I resolved that when I was able to build a railroad, I'd model the Cincinnati, Lebanon & Northern. I haven't wavered in that plan yet.

"I'm BAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaacccccckkkk!"  Heh, heh, heh.....

Wow!  Just Wow!!!  Every once in a while something happens that restores your faith in businesses....  I took the PIP to Canandaigua to find out how bad the damage was in the accident (forced off the road) last Saturday.  Figured I would likely need to get the front alignment done.  I was sure I had bent something.....

Was 5 minutes late leaving the house and, of course, all kinds of things along the way to slow my progress down.  Drove into the place 7 minutes late.  Went in the Service Center and had to wait for 5 minutes while the only Service guy in the office at the moment was writing up something on the computer.  He finally appologized and asked what he could do for me.  I gave him the key fob and my name and what I was there for.  He printed out the work order, I signed my life away, and then headed for the waiting room.  I had just finished thumbing through a magazine with articles trying to convince me why I need to spend $450,000 for car that sports 640hp can go 0 to 500 mph in just a few seconds and is gauranteed to raise my testoserone level considerably.....  I decided I would just keep the PIP at my age...  The service guy comes in to get me.  It had only been about 18 minutes since I sat down.  He takes me back out to the service center not the "pay a fortune" window in the other direction.  I'm thinking, "Oh, oh!  This can't be good news.....!!!"  He goes behind his computer, hands me my key fob but no paperwork...  Says the alignment is fine both front and back, there is no damage underneath the car, and only the thing that needs to be done is the new lower bumper/cowling I already know about and repeats they don't do body work.  Then says, "Have a nice day!"  I stand there in total disbelief...  I look at him and say, "No charge?"  He says, No charge.  I think for a while and say, "Really???  No charge".  He says, No charge!  I repeat, No charge?  He looks up, grins and says, "Really...  No charge!"  I think they will continue to get my business......

So....  I drove downtown to Sweet Expressions Candy Shop, and increased the ballance on my credit card quite a bit....  I always tell the clerks there that I am trying to speak without beathing so I won't gain weight.  Their confections (All in house) are simply decadent!!!  I even bought a quarter lb. of Maple Nut Fudge for myself.....   All I can say is  "Oh    MY     Gosh!!!!"  That is wonderful.  I will be eating it standing up (that way it doesn't count) and in very small pieces.

Catch you all later!

YGW low and high potassium can be bad.  If it's high enough, your EKG looks like a sine wave.  Tried to plant some onions and radishes and got real dizzy everytime I stood up.  That's the other drug that knocks my pulse down to hibernation mode.  As a result I didn't make it down to the train room.

der I worked with a nurse that moved back to Moncton.  She does a lot of hiking and there is some beautiful country up there.  No snow here, 70 degrees for a change.

Lion  A TURP?  You must have a big one.  Since you have a RN, you know some docs are more state of the art than others.  There are a lot of less invasive treatments these days.  Many of these can be done as outpatients, which might drive some urologists to do those in their office.  Maybe a second opinion?   Here is a link to non-invasive therapies  http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/437359-treatment#d11

Ulrich seems to have had his fill of political correctness, which is worse in Europe than it is here.  He tells me Facebook and Twitter are monitored by the government and offensive posts are removed by an ex-Stasi agent.  I hope he changes his mind about the forum.

Afternoon Diners,

it's a hot windy day. Made a update to a star wars game that took 26 hours. It's either one or the other since the WiFi can't be share.

Lucas- My interest in railroading; I was born with, sadly I'm trying to be a real railroader, but I don't think it will happen. Although I model the railroads under my tag line. I grew up looking at Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt into Union Pacific.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could use a cup of hot chocolate and a small bowl of Black and Tan Ice Cream right now...  Please and Thank You Ma'am....

OK....  I need your help guys.  I am selecting some photos to enter in an NMRA Regional Convention in early May.  Need to make my selections now and get the large size prints made.  Then I will take them down to a professional photographer friend of mine to have them matted for presentation at the Convention.  So, I am putting up 3 photos of the same basic subject here and wo0uld like comments on what you see.  Particularly any things that just don't look right (Prototypical, etc) and which of the 3 you like the best.  This will go in the "non-photoshopped catagory so I can't use the computer to do more than crop, change exposure, contrast, etc.  Basically I can only do what you can reasonably do in a film darkroom.  So i can't add smoke, steam, remove trees, add trees.....  Stuff like that.  Have fun and you can be brutal this one time....  LOL

Thanks,

73

Oh, BTW...  This one will be going into the Prototype Class:

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Good evening ..

Ray ... The third photo would be my choice because the engine is closer. ... I like the protype bridge photo also.

JohnBoy ... I'm wondering about Ulrich. Glad you are trying to reach him. He should not have been personally offended because Steven was talking to everybody about being careful not to digress into politics or religion. I always thought Ulrich liked his friends here enough so he would not suddenly decide to leave us. If you reach Ulrich, tell him hello and we look forward to his next visit in the Diner. ... Meanwhile we'll continue talking with each other in the Diner.

Happy Model Railroading, Everybody.
