Galaxy, we needed to get a radon abatement system put in. The exhaust pipe is in the cellar, in the centerline of our house. I don't remember what we paid, but it was done by a company from Bingo. (We're on the opposite side of the Susquie from you.) Good luck with the house hunt!
Ulrich:
I sent you a reply to the answer you sent to me the other day! did you get it?
How are you , "old man"?
-G .
Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.
HO and N Scale.
After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Johnboy: it is a great little house, and I can deal with even the pink tile and pink counter top in the kitchen if I had to.
I will send you an PM later as soon as I finish this!
Ken: If you saw what all crap we have in this trailer, you woulnd't call us "normal people" we are PACK rats! and "collectors" of stuff. plus as you probably know, we have moudns of paperwork, cause wiht someof the programs we get/are on? require mounds of paperwork, I try to keep filed in file cabinet, but too much papers/to little file cabinet. needabout 3 4 drawer file cabinets!
later all.
Evening Dinners
Flo, a and a back brace please
Gary So did they Remotor you or just cleaning the brushes and lube the gears? Either way, glad you are still with us!
Galaxy Good luck on that house, little small for my wife junk but for a normal two people it would be fine with the basement.
Fence Front I have finally got the fill gravel that slid in to Dwights yard to where the post where orginally and have came to a conclusion! I do not have room for a proper retraning wall. I finally got one of the current post close to 90 degrees (It was at about 65 degrees) and I had to move the fill gravel back about a foot to get 3 inches behine where the post where orginally so I could see where the new ones need to be! For me to install a retaing wall I would need to move another foot of fill gravel and that would only leave about a foot of fill gravel to support the side concrete decking around the pool! I have some ideas and will post about them latter.
BBQ is done and my back hurts so latter!
Ken
I hate Rust
Galaxy,
I know you have some issues there, but if it was me, I would do every thing in my power to get that home. That is a fine straight structure that looks great from the street. The interior likes/dislikes can all be addressed over time. They even have a great primer out now that can be put over ceramic tile before painting, so that could get rid of the "pink" for awhile. I know I just sought it out and used it on some vinyl wrapped baseboards and painted them white. The primer is called "STIX, Waterbourne Bonding Primer. You can put any finish you want over it. I got it at a Benjamin Moore paint store.
I would be talking to a real good Mortgage Broker and get him working on getting you what you need under your terms. I mean this, don't let that one slip by you. The money that you will have to dump into your trailer you will not recover, better it go to something long term. Call on some family or whaatever you have to do and make this happen.
This of course is just my opinion. But I would be working like a bear to seal that deal.
Johnboy out.........................

We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
Well!
We switched gear, and went and looked at a wonderful little 990 sf house w/ MRRIng space in the basement!
#br/1b CLEAN DATED house, but I can deal with the dated PINK kitchen counter tops! And the dated intercom won't be much to take out, {only goes from kitchen to MBR anyway.
New roof in '11, newer boiler 2000{oil though, but oil tank is in basment}, newer electric H2o heater {about ''12-'13}. There is a w/d hookup in kitchen, smallish, but dealable {with PINK counter tops!}
here, This one:

The taxes are about double what is posted, she didnt list all taxes, and hte couple previously had SR discount on taxes {over 65}.
There are a few foundation settling hairlie cracks, but none show weepage of water, adn no musty smell to basement... CLEAN, DRY basement.
CLEan little house!
onlyest problem, nto quite sure we'd be approved for mortgage, and only have 30% to put down, if we offered $75,100.00.
It hasn't sold in 100 days, most probably because she didn't list directions correctly so probably cannot find it! we know where it is, though,,
WILL need radon abatement system. No sump.and new carpet in LR and hall, newer vinyl in bath...
WISH we had enought o pay for it, as building smaller willl be at least a $100k + proposition.
We may, just hold on to the cash, into a 6 mo CD for the winter months and regroup in spring?
dunno, wish we were in better position to buy!
Heartland Division CB&Q It's quiet here this morning. Today, I am celebrating 7 years of extra life. It was on August 13, 2008 when I had my emergency helecopter flight to Nashville, TN. My heart stopped several times. I am thankful doctors have been able to control the situation, and my life has been close to normal since then. Prasie the Lord. It seven years and counting of extra model railroading and other things. Happy Model Railroading !

Congrats Garry.
I, too, am "living on borrowed time".
I had a full anaphylactic shock reaction to a Sulfa antibiotic resulting in my death. I was clinically dead for 6 mins, 37 secs. and was then brought back via external defibrilator{?}in other words they shocked me back to life.
One thing I WILL NOT do, is to encouage, or disencourage anyone's "after life beliefs" by telling what I went through then. That is for me to know and everyone else to find out in their own good time. SO DON'T ASK.
And, so, yes, I am deathly allergic to SUlfa drugs.!!!
so congrats Gar!
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I just need a refil for my coffee. Thank you Ma'am.
Yep Garry, this place has been pretty much empty the last couple days. Hope all those who are missing are OK and will show up for coffee and chat soon.
With the exception of a random cloud or two, today is and will be sunny. Currently 71°F with a high around 79° later this afternoon. Should be a good day for making electricity.
Turns out my son had the wrong day for me watching the girls. I will be having them here for about an hour or so today, not yesterday. While my son is here we will carry the table out to the covered back porch and remove the old huge Jad plant to the deck for the rest of the summer and fall. Will decide it's fate before frost occures.... Most likely I will despose of the old thing if the cuttings root well and are disease free.
Galaxy, good luck with the job interview. I'm sure being able to do some part time work would be a great thing for your life.
Have a good day out there!

howmus galaxy Ray not a lot, why>? Just wondering. The weather map showed a really nasty orange and red area heading towards you... I know that if you get any flooding your electric goes off. Clyde, NY not far from where I am got 2.5" in 20 minutes and had a total of 4" in just about 90 minutes... They had some real problems there! Here in Geneva we had 3/4" total for the storm. No problems. 73

not enough to flood apparently
GM< MEN!
I am off early to see a man about a horse. Actually about a job at access VR and 'community options'. It will be only part part time.
Good evening diners. Really hot day in the great north. Spent the last two days fishing with a father and two sons from Regina. Really fun watching them use top water plastic frogs fishing for Northern Pike. Caught some really nice fish.
Ken, watched about half of film clip. Couple of things, first, check with local building department to find out how tall they allow for laid up retaining walls before you have to get an engineer to provide the design and specs. When I was building in Connecticut, anything over four feet high in a retaining wall required an engineering design. Second, I would look into blocks that have a back lip that drops below the top of the block below. They stack with about a one to two inch stagger and are very good at preventing shifting. I had a friend who did an extensive wall about three feet tall by himself. He is a carpenter and not a mason. So, this is something you could do if you want to take it on. I have also relaid a limestone retaining wall when i was a lot younger. It was hard work but not to hard to layout and construct.
Uhlrich, get well soon. We are pulling for you.

Flo, Beer Please
Work Front another caboose day! After 4:00 PM I had the store to my self. At 7:45 I has started closing and I had a guy come in and wanted a cheap full. He did buy and was out with in 10 minutes. As I was helping him carry out the mattress a another couple came in. I gave it a honst effort but the would not buy, they where looking for a futon to sleep on a collage.
Did anyone watch the viedo I posted? Was hoping for some input.
UP 831 I was thinking about sand, main thing is I would like to drive some rebar in the ground, then use either concrete or cement so the block would not move.
YGW I did not no if you where busy the last two days, that is why I did not call you.
Later, Ken
Good afternoon !
Last month I read an article about using 3M Transfer Tape for modeling.
So, I bought some, and I just tried it out. .... Dang! That stuff is really sticky ! ... I used to to hold roofing material on aa building I am making. ... It will take a while to get used to handling the sticky stuff, but it has a lot of possibilities.
galaxyRay not a lot, why>?
Ulrich: answered.
Ray not a lot, why>?
Zoe, I'll have a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Raost coffee for my FGLK Mug and a Bavarian Creme filled Doughnut for breakfast this morning.
Ulrich, hope you get feeling better quickly. You sure have a lot to deal with.
So Galaxy, how mush water did you folks get down your way from the front that came through Monday night?
I need to take my shower and then run the vacuum cleaner and get some things put away before my Granddaughters arrive early this afternoon. I best get moving!
Afternoon, Folks!
Nothing to report - I still feel miserable. It´ll take some more days until the antibiotices really kick in.
up831 - there used to be a brewery in St. Pauli, called the Bavaria - St. Pauli brewery. No connection to the Bremen St. Pauli brewery, though.
Galaxy - I sent you a PM!
CU!
Good Morning Diners,
Flo, would you be so kind as to supply me with an enormous cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.
Ken: you mentioned putting cement or concrete in the blocks. Sand has also been used for that purpose.
Ulrich: please take care of yourself and get better. We need someone to defend Brunhilda's honor. Also, I think you know this, St. Pauli Bier is brewed in Bremen not Hamburg. It might be more interesting if brewed in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg, but alas, no.
A true story to lighten your trials. 1969 in Frankfurt. I walked into a hamburger stand to get some food. I asked myself, "how am I going to do this." It was very crowded. I stepped up to the counter and said, "Ein Hamburger und ein French Fry." The guy behind the counter looks at me like I'm from Mars and goes,"Whaa.......?" He calls the manager over and they're yelling at each other and the manger looks at me as says, "What seems to be the problem here?" I said,"All I wanted was a hamburger and fries." He responds, "they speak good English here." They yelled a few things at each other and I eventually got my food. About three years later I found out that what I'd done was to order a person from Hamburg. This was compounded by the fact that back then this hamburger place was in the red light district. Oh well, ya learn.
i hope everyone is OK and safe.

GOing shopping at Price Whacker...
cya, wouldn't want to b ya!
Flo, I take a and give Tin Can one as well.
Worked Sucked. I am really worring about making Aug payment at the rate things are going.
Drunk Dave. We are now playing who's going to call drunk Dave and see if he is coming back to work? Dave should have got out of Rehab either on the 6th or the 8th of this month. Nancy told Paul and Carmon that only she will talk to Drunk Dave or his wife when one of them called! But no calls? She all so said we cannot call them to see what is going on, but she will call. But, she does not want to call Drunk Dave or his wife now either! She all so told Dave wife to only call her about what is going on!
Today Nancy called me and wanted to know if I have heard from Drunk Dave or his wife. Told her "No, have not heard from either one". (She told the wife to only call her) Then she asked "Is Paul and Karmon staying on top of things with Drunk Dave? I said yes they are. We Are Not, None Of Us Want His Caboose Back Hands Down!
Fence Front I really like to bulid a retaing wall and came across this on U-Tube. Could it reall be this simple??????
YGW and others please watch.
Latter, Ken
Evenin folks!
Janie, a cup of decaf would be nice right now.... I'll have a seat at the front booth and watch the switching going on out in the yard.
Jeremy, we got some rain around these parts as well last night. No problem here in Geneva. We got a little over a quarter inch before midnight, and I don't know yet what the total after that was. The roads were still wet when I got up and I know the garden needed a bit. However...... North west of here in Wayne County. They had 5" of rain in places. A fire chief over there said they recorded 2.5 inches in a half hour at one point. They are dealing with some major flooding and damage. There are reports (not proven as of yet) of Microbursts in places as well. Lots of trees down and branches laying across roads and stuff.
I see Galaxy, hasn't been in since this morning. Wondering if the river overflowed where he is and his power went out?
I am continuing to repot plants and clean up the dining room. Catch you all later!
Evening guys
just watching the blue jays game and browsing here on the iPad. We got some much needed rain yesterday so that was good but they are calling for a hot humid weekend. Have a few things I bought off of amazon that should be coming tomorrow. I like to get pens and pencils around this time of year as they are priced better. I also bought a new pencil sharpener as the one I have is worn out. I still use a pencil everyday when playing my table top baseball game. went through pretty much all my pencils that I bought last year. I stocked up good and bought 5 packs of a dozen each.
Garry:
The Kentucky RR museum is on the bucket list; hard to get to from College Station; might be able to plan a visit before or after a fb weekend...
I grew up in a town on the old Tin Can (Cisco); but I never saw it run as it was abandoned 3 years before we moved to town. I don't have space for a layout, but I am a member of a modular club. I say I model trains; one of the trains I am working on is the cleanup train that ran on the Tin Can in Nov. 67; a GP7 and an F3; forty something cars (I have the details, but I can't remember them...). I also model Santa Fe and T&P.
I am currently custom building a 5x9 sectional layout (like MR's Beer Line) based on the Angelina & Neches River RR in Lufkin, TX. Have benchwork and outer loop complete; I have to work outside, and it has been either too rainy or too hot to get much done (106 today). I do have a canopy that gives protection from the sun. I have taken pictures to document the process; need to organize them and put them somewhere where they can be shared.
Wow! This place has been empty for 6 hours....
Chloe, I'll have a nice tall glass of Lemonade please.
I've been cleaning and moving STUFF in the dining room again today. Finally have the many boxes of historical STUFF from the NMRA Division moved from underneath the table that I have used to hold plants over the years. The top , a piece of heavy tempered glass to protect the table top (and didn't...) has been moved to the kitchen counter where I used windex and then white vinegar to clean all the buildup of lime off. Vacuumed the worst fo the dead leaves, spider webs, and other such STUFF from the table and most of the floor around it (will get the carpet under the table tomorrow). I will be watching the granddaughters here tomorrow while my son takes care of his unemployment stuff here in town. When he returns, I will have him help me move the table to the back portch so I can sand and refinish the water damaged table top.
I don't think we got a morning quote here in the diner today..... So here is a family favorite for you: "Know the difference between ignorance and appathy? I don't know and I don't care!" - Barney Fox (my FIL)
Hope you are all having a great day out there.
Good morning, everybody ....
tin can Flo, another round for Cuda Ken & I! Cuda: Another great photo. I just bought an Athearn Genesis F3A&B painted in Monon's black and gold freight scheme. I am going to do something a little bit different with them. I have found material online about Monon's F unit roster; there was a group of F3's that ended at 64C. There is a 65C on the roster that I believe is a wreck replacement. Anyway, I am renumbering these models to 66A & 66C as sort of a tribute to my son, who is #66 on the football team. Also, one his best friends on the team is from Carmel.

Tin Can .... Good to see you in the Diner. .... There is a Monon BL2 alive and well in the Kentucky Railway Museum. .... I have a Genesis F3 A&B too, but painted and lettered for CB&Q. I definately like it. ... Your post mentions Tin Can as part of the MKT. Do you also model MKT ?
Ken ... Nice photo of the BL2 ... Some people don't like the looks of the BL2, but I like it.
Ray .... I like the video of NKP 765. Thanks for sharing.
YGW..... I would say the N&W equipment behind NKP 765 is now appropriate because both NKP and N&W are predecessor lines merged into Norfolk Southern. Some of the cars at the end of the trin were from other roads. .... Hope your appointment goes well on Friday.
Ulrich .... I certainly hope your pneumonia clears very soon. That is not good news.
Galaxy, UP 831, EMD Don, Richard, V8 Dennis, and Dave HOn3 .... Good to see you here this morning and yesterday.
JohnBoy .... I thought of you, the retired Greyhound bus driver, when I received my Burlington Route Historical Society magazine a couple of days ago. It has a historic bus photo. It is a Burlington Trailways bus operating in Nebraska about 1940. I recall both Burlington and Santa Fe were owners of Trailways bus routes. Eventually, big bad government stopped that saying railroads can't own bus companies because anti-trust laws or something like that.
Family memebrs are here from Cincinnati (2 granddaughters with DIL. .. Son is back in Ciny working.) We went to Murray accross the lakes for dinner yesterday.
GM, MEN!

Flo, give Tin Can and I
Tin Can The photo was taken in Carmel Ind where I am from. I really like the Mono and have around 8 of there engines on my layout.
Ulrich Hope you get better soon and give Petra my best.
What is stonger, concrete or cement? I am hoping to build a concrete block wall and fill the insides with one of the above.
YGW I will be calling you either Tuesday or Wednesday if that is Ok?
Galaxy, I have been enjoying your qoutes.
Big News Of The Day. I been getting pre-approved Master Card offers from Capital One, today I went on line and was approved for a $1000.00 card. Main reason I am happy, it means my credit ratting is getting better! With some luck I can get away from Bank Of Stuipd that holds my home loan! I swear, if Bank Of America was a single person I would have killed them by now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Told my wife to be onthe look out for the charge card so she would not throw it away. First thing she said was "Don't run to K-10 Model Trains and buy something!" That got me PO'ed, first thing I was plain to do is buy her car some tires so she does not kill her self? Funny, K-10 seems like a good idea after that comment!
Best to all and latter.
Cuda Ken
For Tin Can
Evenin' folks!
Janie, I could use one more refill for the decaf, please....
Thank you guys. Glad you enjoyed the video clips.
Raining here in the Finger Lakes with some communities just to the North West being under flood wrnings. Just South of Rochester they had 2" of rain in a bout an hour or so this afternoon. Ae should have no such problem here where I am but will get some heavy rain around midnight.
I do hope that Galaxy has battened down the hatches as it looks klike some really nasty heavy stuff will be going right over where he lives very soon! Stay safe!!!
I guess it is time to shut down and head to bed for the night. Hope all of you have a great night! Prayers for all in need!!!
