I've been up for a while and have gotten a couple things done already. went down to check the seepage in the basement, and amazingly the pool behind the back entrance hadn't overflowed yet today.... Cut a couple short peices of plywood that will make it easier for my son and I to move the 20 Gal. aquarium next week.
I need to clean out the car. It has a couple large boxes of old electrocins I have been saving for recylcling. Since the place in geneva closed, I will have to wait until the County has a recyling day at the landfill this summer. Need to get out all the materials for the train show and do some printing. Going to spend much of today making a powerpoint show of the layouts open during the Convention. Will also be sending some information to the neighboring region to have them send out info to their membership about the Convention. Lots and lots of stuff to get done and little time.

well, Aren't I the fancy high tech one? I just managed to bluetooth "pair" not just one pr but 2 pr of head phones to my "smart phone". I ordered a cheapo pair and thought I'd order the motorola brand pair in case the other doesn't work. SO I got both now bluetoothed, which, prior to this, we had to have verizon do it for us for the speaker and the car visor hands-free device speaker. Now I think I have the hang of it!!! I will take tehm to play the Pandora free radion in the drs. offices
WE'll find out if I can "pair" again when MOH comes home as I also ordered the earpiece for MOH who wanted one for when with clients....
The thing is the cheapo pr actually feel better on my ears. SO I may use it all the time, but it doesn't answer the phone well, is the only problem, I go to answer a call on the cheapo and it dials HOME for me!
Actually i was surprised it took the two headphones, as I thought it could only pr to 3 devices. That makes 4 devices paired, but maybe you can only use 3 at once? Dunno.
I am becoming "modern tech savy" I guess...now if I knew all the features of the Moto phone...I'd be happier. i think. MAybe. I think I have "navigate" down..it will navigate for us like a GPS system if we just talk to it. It does lots of things if we jsut talk to it! We can ask it anything and it will answer IF iT UNDERSTOOD me perfectly! Maybe you have one too?
Not much got done other than the laundry, I'm afraid, playing with new toys did that. I had to read online how to pr the motorla expensive pr, as the "de"structions in the booklet are WRONG! Well, NOT RIGHT! AS I had some problems and was about to call back to return it.
Oh well, it works great now, will try for distance when I go to the mailbox...

Hi Gang, Guess who is back in the "Land of the Living"?? sort of......
A one day treatment in Saskatoon turned into a life threatening ordeal, where one week-end I truly believed that I had seen my home for the last time.
To be brief, while doing the dilation of my esophagus the radiated scar tissue tore and they had a very difficult time in getting the bleeding stopped. I had two chest tubes in and over the next six days they took 3500 ml. of blood and fluid off my right lung cavity. Even now I am as weak as a puppy. But, I do feel an improvement today, so I hope this is a start on the road back to at least where I was on March 11/15.
I thank all of you once again for your concern, prayers, good wishes, kind thoughts, candles. Boy, I sure needed them this time around. Special mention to Galaxy, Ray, Garry, Flip, Barry, Ulrich, Terry in Wisconsin and Rob.
Ulrich, those are fine looking specs., and glad they are working for you. That is one fine looking Frauline (spelling) that you have by your side. And a great cook to boot. I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have Sandy by my side. She is truly my Angel and has helped me enormasly over the last two years, let alone the 41 years she has put up with me.
My heart goes out to all those folks who do not have a companion and who are going through the Cancer and assosiated treatment on their own. That would truly be double hell.
Those of you facing flood problems, I hope the melt is slow and easy with no rain, leaving you in a reasonable state of affairs.
I have had some time to think about the next section of the layout that I have started work on. This is the west end and is the major city scene, Mainly on the Backdrop. It has an elevated union Station, much like Garry's only on a smaller scale. It has an elevated roadway going to it, but I wasn't sure as to what I was going to do on the main level. Well, last year on one of my trips to see my Son in the Billings Mt. area, I went to my favorite haunt there. "Jim's Junction" and found on one of his shelves a Limited Production kit by Randy Pepperock of Downtown Deco, called " The Deadend Alleyway." This is an assortment of seven different structures that are 360 degree buildings but the attention should really be given to the back alleyway behind them that is just packed with detail and should really be a fun build. At the time I didn't know whether I would have a place for it or not, but seeing it was a Ltd. Production I thought I would gamble on the $279.00 price, But I was given a nice discount which helped. But, having had time to contemplate where I wanted to go with this area, I decided it would be fun to have this lower area below the roadway to the station as an area that hasn't quite gotten to the point of urban renewal. So as my strengh improves you will all know what I am doing.
Kind of getting tired out here and think I'll have a snooze for awhile.

OK, I'm back from the wilds of Maine, with a couple of pictures to brighten your day:
I pulled into the Kennebunk rest area off of I-95, the Maine Turnpike south. There it was, in all its glory: The L.L.Bean bootmobile. The trusty cell-phone camera caught the giant boot and the license plate.
I had a great week skiing. Monday wasn't much other than cold and windy, but Tuesday and Wednesday were epic blue-sky days with plenty of warm sunshine and good snow. It was supposed rain Thursday, but it held off until the afternoon, and I actually basked in sunshine while eating chili outside on one of the upper mountain decks for lunch.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Hello Railfans! Top of the day to ya! Flo - my usual please.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Things are just peachy here. I am a little bit ahead of schedule on my move. Also, my temporary lodging has been aquired until the actual 'move' takes place.
Which means you folks will be getting a break from my great philosophic speeches for a while. Notice i said for a while. Enjoy the time off!
Ofcourse spring has sprung here if not temporarily. We had a sunny (ofcourse!) 70 degree day yesterday. Its also that time of the year to start gearing up for our annual Va Renaissance Faire.
So, this weekend i get to head out to the woods, clear all the fallen stuff from winter off the stages and what not. Set up tents, buildings, and unpack everything, etc. You know, all the behind the scenes fun.
During my temporary living arrangements i will also be completing all the promised work around town i have to do. All in all a busy month ahead. Im not sure how many times i will be able to join you folks here in the diner but i will try.
I can tell you this.... they've only been packed away for a couple weeks now but i really do miss my trains. Hate looking at my empty walls where shelves of locos used to reside. Stare at them and theyd smile back. I really miss that! I am thinking maybe i should get a pet.
I summize by this time next week will be my last post for a while. Gonna miss that too. So in the interum, i hope you folks take great care, and remain as healthy as you can. Should anyone find reason to contact me, my email will still be available.

Been doing some serious thinking about my future MRRing activities, but I am not sure whether I have found the answer. I will have to do more research, but building a small "working" diorama or British-style micro-layout might fit the bill more than just building structures. Something has to move on that "layout" and it needs to be on rails!

Johnboy, good to see you back. Yours is an additional reminder how fragile life can be and how much we need to cherish each day. Your attitude is an inspiration.
I am about to embark on a major train-related effort. I have been building my "real" layout in the garage due to the close proximity to my tools and such. It is an N-Scale, L-shaped layout that is approximately 11'x7'. It was built to break down into three sections so that it could be moved from the garage into my home office, it's final resting place. The temperature in Arizona is heating up (supposed to be 95 today) so it is time to get it out of the garage, and into the air conditioning. (Plus, I what to be able to park my car in the garage and out of the sun/heat.) Hopefully, this weekend I will be able to make the move. Wish me luck.

Good afternoon diners, SE Ohio weather has a little something for everyone. Four days ago we had snow, not much but it was a surprise. Two days later it was 74 degrees and partly sunny. Today has been chilly and cloudy. Supposed to go down to the 20's tonight.
I put the new mini-grinder to work and I am very happy with its performance. Ground of the foot on a couple pieces of rail for switch points and ground another couple of pieces for a frog. This is my first attempt at building switches from scratch. Thanks to some decent U-tube videos I fabricated the first frog this afternoon.
Mr. Beasley, the boot mobile is certainly unique. Can you buy a pair of shoes out of it?

Nice little mini grinder James, I am now hand laying all my track except that which is hidden. I am using Fast Tracks jigs and tools for the turnouts. Glad the grinder is working well for you. I just may have to get myself one of those.....

Well! What i came in tell all of you.... Today was the day! Yep! I just checked the inverter screen down cellar and as of a couple hours ago the Solar panels on my roof have passed the 10 Megawatt mark. So they have produced 10,000 kWh of electric for me. In the last 29 months they have saved me $1,200 worth of electric. Still have a good many years before the cost will be paid off, but I like it anyway!

Tomorrow I will have to leave here around 7AM to get to Batavia in time to get set up for opening.... Tonight is the R&GV RR Museum Banquet. I may not get to hear all of the speaker's comments as I need to get a few hours of sleep before the alarm goes off very, very early tomorrow. I have been moving Blackies Insulin injection up in time for the past few days so I will be able to get him taken care of before I leave.

What a miserable day - in terms of our weather! Just gray, drippin´ wet & windy. I shouldn´t be complaining, it is our normal northern German Schmuddelwetter!
The mail lady brought me a book about micro-layouts, which is filled with excellent ideas on building small, yet interesting and good looking little layouts. So far I have just leafed through it, but it´ll sure keep me busy in the next days. British model railroaders are certainly creative when it comes to making best use of little spaces (and also low budgets). Suits mke fine! It´ll be someehat challenging to put all the ideas into a layout plan for my own use. Time will tell!
We will be changing to DST this night. Although I don´t like the change, it does make sense here up north. Without DST, the sun would rise at 2.30am in my neck of the woods - that´s a little early...
Hard to believe, that the Easterr holidays are only a weel from now!

awell, I have spent most of the morning on a project, and no not a train one. I won't even THINK of getting to THAT room until I get the OK to lift,adnd I think i did more than my shoulder's fair share this morning!
It invoveld a new rollign cart with a laundry bag under and a hanging rack over it. The idea is you slide it to the washer, wash, then hang up on top to transprot back to teh BR. SO I got one, Cheap, $20 on amazon that woudl FIT in the space the old hamper was. BUT it also had a hanger with clothes hanging over it {hence the idea} and some odd clothes/sheets/SCHTUFF all stacked up/wedged betwixt the hamper adn the dresser. WEll, the dresser had to be slightly moved,and there are more sheets/odd clothing/schtuff betwixt the two dressers. And MOH's dresser was LOADED on top with odd clothing.
So first I had to clear of MO's dresser, ffoudn clothes I KNOW MOH can't wear anymore so created a pile for Sally house., Then came the sheets from betwixt teh dressers, then came moving the dresser, then came clearing the odds and ends sandwiched betwixt the dresser and the hamper. Then came ASSEMBLY of the unit!
I created laundry in the process, as well! Then came putting back what we are keeping, and found the rack is nto quite meant for someone who wears big and tall clothing {I am short and fat}! It will work for MOH's stuff, but not so much mine. Oh well. It covers the basket bag for laundry. THe bag for laundry also has a split cloth in the middle I may just cut that out. Its to restrictive when you go to get out the clothes, or when you load them in. one BIG bag would be better'an 2 split ones!
so, now to tidy up and get the stuffgoing to the van. MOH has to go through soem stuff later, came home after work,but took the car for Inspection, and then has work tonight with a client.

nifty item, only $20! It WAS a slight disappointment, though, ithought it was held together by screws, turns out most is pressure fitted into the plastic side pieces. Good thing I am NOT hauling it around!
So now, TO finish the laundry I created, get the rest of the "not wanted" stuff to teh van and to get everyting put where i now want it.
Then to do teh bedding! Time I think to change from Microfleece fuzzy sheets to soft flannel sheets. THe end of april to change to jersey sheets. Then to cool percale sheets for summer. IN OTHER WORDS, WARM WEATHER, COME ON!!!
So i will still be a busy bee!

Yeah, I am done now. I haven't really been taking it as easy as I should on the arm this last week, lifting things, picking up things i suppose I should not, this was actaully the first "heavy duty" thing I was doing, though, besides PT, which has me lifting weights too, though 1lbers. I MAY pay for it tomorrow.
Its a bit of my manic business, spring like cleaning. I go on occasional manic tears, usually the "constructive ones" are Cleaning sprees...when i get in a tear-it-all-apart and clean on hands and knees with a toothbrush, and throw out stuff we don't need, haven't used in 5 years, or no longer want. In this case its clothes. Made it easy for MOH..I asked want this? or can you wear this? "OUT OUT OUT" was the response! BUT: MOH will only do that with about 5-10 items, then all bets are off, as MOH gets tired of "sorting clothes"...I clean out at least twice a year if not 4 times. Getting rid of what I can't wear anymore, wont wear anymore or dont want anymore.
It all goes to the Sally house for recycling. f I wanted a tax deduction {which there isn't enough of} I'd take it in adn go step by step item by item to get the tax break, but we don't have enough to itemize well. Even with last year's high medical expenses,Takign the regular standard deduction was better.
I can lift the bags with my left arm or have MOH do it. I did carrry {left handledly} out of the BR to the LR. MOH can put in van to drop off tomorrow.
ON A BAD NOTE: just got a letter saying MOH's division of Blue Cross Blue SHield has ALSO been compromised with names, B-dates, SS #, addresses, etc. COMPROMISED. YET another compromise! Is it any wonder I HATE The computerized world! Of course old fashioned paper with everything written on it can be copied too. TIme to Call Lifelock, my other monitoring sytstem doens't cover MOH, only me. LIfelock was NOT available in NY for awhile but I believe t is now.
Well, lunch, late, is cordon bleu chicken in the oven done in 15 mins, so I'd best get off here. adn some good USA grown Kona coffee straight from Hawaii to go with it!

Just a short post here to let you know that I do feel a little better again today, so I think improvement is on it's way.
No start on the kits yet, but my intent is to read all I can on Hydrocal structures so that I know what I will be getting into when I do start. I think there is a tutorial on the Downtown Deco web site that should give me a good understanding and probably a few you tube videos as well.
We had a nice sunny morning here, but it has clouded over and they are forecasting rain for this evening and overnight. At least it is much milder and not much wind. For me, I guess that doesn't matter much, I have no need to go out for a week or two right now. Will do more walking when the streets clear up, that will be great.
