Richard - Stop ! Put down the old stale birthday cake. Here is a fresh hot slice of hot apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream : ) Enjoy.

Galaxy - When is your next shoulder surgery ?

CN Charlie - ER - Wow I am glad to see you are out and hopefully none the worse for the wear. I bet you didnt get any rest while in there did you ? Thaey pock and prod you all hours of teh night !

Rob - How are your injuries coming along ? Here have a cup of Joe with N&W coal dust on me.

Blown out - hurray for no incindents on the MRR.

Mr. B - youve been eating your own cooking for that long ? I bet you will be glad when YOH returns ?

Cuda - I wondered what had been keeping you for so long. Now I know. I am not sure whether to congratulate you or offer my sympathies ! I have been a manager for twenty or thirty years. At times it is really nice because of the great people you get to meet and then it is awful because of deadlines, dealing with the budgets ( yuck ) , Half crazy inspectors ( they are inspectors becasue they cant cut it in the field - like a rent a cop vs. a real police officer ) then there are those hired to do a job and think you are crazy because you expect them to work. I have had knives puled on me, life threatened, some have attempted to burn down our homes ( crazy tree huggers ) sabotage our equipment, vandalize, theft ( just this week someone stole the gutters right of the model !!!) etc... Thus my congrats/sympathy statement.

Good luck with the plumbing. Have the whole house water shut off, have some extra towels and look the fixture up on line BEFORE you take it apart. Sometimes it is a flattened rubber gasket inside that goes bad. MAKE SURE if it is the shower controls that you note how it comes out and where it is situated. If you put it back in wrong you may have to much cold or to much hot Huh?

Well today is the BIG day. Final inspection on the first model. Model furniture being delivered Monday.

TTYL

YGW

PS - Garry here is a T-Bone steak, stuffed bake potato, blooming onion and a nice tall glass of ice tea for ya.

Spring?  It's 20 degrees out and kind of gloomy and cloudy with a uniform gray sky.

YGW, I'd rather eat my own cooking, most of the time.  I'm the better chef anyway, although Penny can put decent food on the table if she wants to.  But, she is the kind of person who would have a slab of white fish, brown rice and some bitter, oily vegetables 7 days a week, while I like variety and a more zesty selection of meats and sides.

And now for the three little words that make me a happy man:  Train Show Tomorrow!  Yes, it's the spring edition of the Greenberg Train Show.  I'll be on the lookout for billboards and telephone poles to hide and mount the phototransistors and infrared LEDs for the grade crossings.  Then, Sunday it's off to Maine for a few days of skiing.  I won't be back until next Friday.

Galaxy, be attentive to you physical therapist, and even ask for exercises you can do at home.  I think that was the key to recovery for my shoulder.  If you just let it go and don't keep working on range-of-motion, you won't break up the internal scar tissue and you'll end up with limitations on what you can do with it.

I put together one of my crossing gates, the Tortoise on its remote mount plate, the remote actuator and the thin push-pull "speedometer cables" that link the mechanical parts.  I adjusted that range-of-motion, and now it's time to start putting it together on (and mostly under) the layout.

And Ken, congratulations (or is it condolences?) on your promotion!

T'was my birthday and t'was a good day. I am now old enough to order from the back page of the Denny's menu. Still a few more years before I can become a full-time hobbyist.

Goodevening diners,  Think I would rather have teeth filled than do Federal income taxes.  At least they are done for another year. I could have been laying more ties this afternoon.

My better half and I tried out a new eatery for lunch that opened this past Monday.  Nice to see people who seem to have their act together serve good food for reasonable cost.  Had a pulled pork sandwich with yummy home made slaw on top.

Ken, good luck on your new job position.  I am sure you will be able to get things in order fairly soon.

what an exhausitng dayh!

The denitist for MOH,

Then to the credit union {both of them} {yes we are greedy, not really one is very close and the other is far away, and we were gonna change "stores" so to speak, but deicided the far away has higher interest rates for small money {which we have} and the close one for large money {which we hope to have}, so why not keep both? Once a member, always a member! AND then there is the bank about 5 miles from home, real close, with free checking-last in the land..we'll keep for that purpsoe and for things like WIRING Ulrich his funding!

Then to Staples to get wipes for the cell phones.

Then to the Verizon store to pick up goodies we bought at last weeks class for the hands free operation of the cell phone - a visor clip and a seperate speaker for tunes....

Then to Freindly's to eat,

Then to the grocery store for scones and clotted cream, Irish whiskey cheddar, and ice cream...rum raisin!

Then home and to pay some bills.

MR. B: oh they always give hoemework, and excep for lifting which the surgeon doesn't want now, I will do all I can to get it back stronger and better than it was...

I missed a Happy B-Day !! SO happy belated one!!! {i forgot who?} Richared ride on road....

YGW: i don't know yet, just had the MRI on it.. surgery hopefully won't be until the right is STRONG, and won't be during the heat of summer. SO if need be I'll suffer until fall.

CN charlie is on the "list"- Not that list, the healing list!

JIM MOON: OUr taxes were done a  long time ago, My father used to wait to do his, but now he got 'em done early this year and feels better! when he does them early, he gets a refund, seems like, when he waits, he owes!

well, have a quiet evening I gotta go pay those bills.

The House Dinner Special, please.

***YGW, thanks for the coffee. Ankle continues to heal reasonably well, shoulder has a long way to go. Sometimes I just can't do everything that needs doing with one arm.

After reesting yesterday, have been most productive today. Should have a helper (hired hand) tomorrow, so more progress will be made. Outside of the farm work, I'll have him help me move the sofa out of the train room and into the storage room under the sunporch.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I know what you mean, my left shoulder/arm is tired of carrying the load for both,, now not so bad,  but as the right one heals the left must still do all the lifting...

GOod luck, I have a candle lit just for you!

Galaxy, one of the best PT home exercises I got was to use a broomstick, grasp it in both hands and use the good arm to push the healing arm up and away from my body.  That way, I did the range-of-motion thing on the surgically-repaired arm without having to stress the still-healing muscles on top of the shoulder.

When I tore my rotator cuff, I knew who I wanted to do the job.  I played hockey with a couple of orthopedic surgeons who had the reputation of getting their patients back in the game.  On my first night back in goal, one of them suited up and shot pucks at that shoulder for half the night.  He couldn't beat me, and realize that they'd done a good job.

Sorry about your birthday Richard.

Galaxy keep working with the arm exercises. I had different arm exercises but they nevered worked for me because it was nerve damage.

Train News: When I got my Atlas Amtrak N Scale automobiles yesterday I noticed that the paint on the vehicle was extremely tiny and didn't notice it until the second look. That very surprised me but I still like it.

Good Evening,

A not so balmy 20F here going down to 3 tonight but at least the snow is gone and there isn't any in the forecast. The ice is going out on the river that is near us which is fairly early.

Galaxy, glad to hear you are on the mend.

YGW, my horsepiddle stay really wasn't too bad. When they decided I was to get ready for the colonoscopy the next day, they set up my 'clean-out' starting at mid-night. A gallon of not very good tasting stuff to drink doesn't go down well at that time and I was hooked up to a drip, so thankfully they put a commode beside the bed. I sure didn't sleep much that night!

Thanks for all the well wishes.

Today we finished out taxes. I don't do them any longer and don't mind that either. I had to pay a little but not as much as expected so it was a nice suprise.

Well time for a little telie,

CN Charlie

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me at the moment...

The Plumber called and came over.  The toilet water inlet hook up has been fixed.  He just put on a new hose from the water supply to the tank.  I could have done that myself, but it only took him couple minutes and it would have taken me at least an hour and I know I would be feeling it by now...  He will come back next week and put in a new sink faucet and plug the hole in the cast iron pipe down cellar.  The cast iron goes all the way up to the roof and could be a real monster to get out of there with the amount of weight so he's hoping he can patch the one section that is leaking...

I also figured out that there is most likely no insulation at all in the ceiling of my living room....  I took a tape measure and probed up into the hole that we enlarged a couple days ago and there was no insulation above it and the tape measure went in one foot.  That should be about the right length to reach the underlayment of the main roof where the hole is.  When they made the porch into a living space, they simply put lightweight sheetrock right on top of the plywood that was used when it was a side porch.

I have been doing some track and scenery work on the layout.  This is an area where I put in a creek modeling some of the deep cuts that bring streams into the Finger Lakes several years ago.  This one is called Keuka Creek (based on the Keuka Lake Outlet that goes from Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake, south of where I live).

The return loop at this end of the layout will be a small crossroads called Milo Mills.  It is based on, ah...., Milo Mills...  Yep!

Not much to look at yet...  Give me time!

Hope you all have a pleasent night.  My prayers for all those in need!

***Ray, is that rock work carved out of the foam? Looks excellent!

Worker didn't show, although he usually has a legit reason. I'll jusy chip away at the stuff I can do alone. Might even cut the first two sheets of plywood for the new layout.

Have a great day all.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I could use a refill on my dark roast coffee, please...

***Ray, is that rock work carved out of the foam? Looks excellent!

Thank You Rob.  Nope the rock work at Keuka Creek is made from broken up pieces of ceiling tile.  I went over to a local lumber yard and got a few 1' x1' tiles that were already broken (I had to pay a greatly reduced price for them, but some places will give them to you).  Just break them up, cut to size, and stack them.  Glued in place with white glue.  Paint them with Kilz or some other sealing paint, then paint them with a rock color.  The original ones that are in place were done several years ago and have faded some.  They were also lighter than I now know they should be (I have learned a few things over the years...). You can see a real limestone rock sitting at the base of the rocks in the top picture.  That is the color I will ultimately try to match.  The rock cut for the "Creek" is supposed to be mostly shale which is the rock type at that spot in the "prototype".  Since I will be using Woodland Scenics paint, I will cover the entire area with a dilute solution of Scenic Cement to fix the color and then put the "plant life" in place followed by a spray of the Scenic Cement.  That's a trick I learned from Clark Cooning, MMR at a Region Convention a couple years ago.

As Barry would say, Dull here today.  Currently 38°F outside and sprinkly rain.  High is supposed to be 48°F later this afternoon.  I have a luncheon for a friend of mine early this afternoon (President of the local MLK Committee) who is being installed this weekend as the Pastor of a church here in town, and then the annual Boy Scout District Dinner to attend this evening.  I seldom go to the District Dinner as I really find it kinda tedious, but I will be presenting a major District Award to another friend of mine tonight.  I recieved the award last year but wasn't there to formally get it.  Several Higher Ups in the District and Council tried in vain to get me to go but failed.  I was out visiting one of my units all day at Camp and felt (still do) that was more important.  Frankly I was honored when the award was presented to me at the following District Committee meeting.  It is a rotating award that the last recipient gets to choose who it goes to next.  The award is for special work and help out at the Boy Scout Camp.

I have to go see what I have clean to wear to all the dignified, out amongst them activities of the day...  Catch you all later!

Evening Diners,

Well I heard my brother is not keeping his job soon and he will be fired this coming fall. It's been a good year for him at least he has experienced now and find another job quickly.

I had company walking Murrey yesterday another dog "pitbull" . He showed up and followed us thru the entire walk. Most dogs follow us for a short bit and walk away but this one stayed. I called animal control and they picked him up.

Train News: I pre-ordered Conrail B23-7 and GP38-2 in DCC now I need to buy a DCC system. I hope I'm making the right move.

Did my earlier post disappear, or did I just forget to post my post?

It's sunny here now, but I had to drive to the train show in snow and slush.  Nothing serious, but, well, enough is enough.  As always, I had some success and some stuff I couldn't find.  The show was very crowded with attendees, but there seemed to be fewer vendors of interest.  The latest thing seems to be drones, helicopters and wind-up trains that run around on the floor.  As if we didn't have enough trouble keeping from stepping on toddlers.  Of course, I found a Milwaukee boxcar I didn't have, so that went in my bag.  I got an old Life-Like tanker I'm going to turn into a MOW water car, and on the way out I found it.  One of those things you're only going to find at a train show.  A genuine Athearn pickle car for $8.  How's that, huh?

Ray, I've got Moose Mills on my layout.  It's just a 2-sided background building I put in a corner, made from DPM modules.

Galaxy, when I read your post about using a cane for your shoulder exercises, the first image that came into my mind was Fred Astaire in a straw hat and tap dancing shoes.  Perhaps Ginger Rogers can come over and help with your routine.

Yes, Angelo, going with DCC is the right move.

Lasagna, please.

The Fox Valley Hiawatha train has long been on my want list. However, after reading about some folks experiences with them (loco wobble and cars coupler issues), not so sure I want to risk it. Anyone know if the company has done anything about these problems with the new upcoming run?

Been working on farm stuff all day. Will be in the corner booth chowing down.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Mr. B: I use a cane as when my back gives out, I have something to lean on. {although it can also be my L knee or either hip that gets "wanky"}> SO NO Freddy And Ginger! I can't dance either!

Mr. Angelo: I AGREE wiht Mr. B. I have a very small layout, and can only run two trains, but I thinK DCC IS a real boon!

well, FIL has plans for helping us, but I am not at liberty to say what... That, and we are on a "good" path ourselves, that -is -if we can overcome our stubborn obstacles-, will benefit us greatly. That was good news to get today, but we have some heavy legwork to do on Monday.

PLus two appts: the cardiologist, and the PT. in the A of M, and the heavy legwork in the afternoon.

We are planning a summer vaction jaunt to the B&O RR MUSEUM in BAltimore this summer {MOH LOVES steam trains as much as I}- ANyone been there and have tips for us? Nothing much going on the weekend of the July 11th. ANYBODY HAVE IDEAS? MOH also wants to go to DC to visit museums etc. too.

July 12 th is our anniversary, so it will be a vacation/special day {finally romantic? or are we out of romance at our ages?}

so we shall see what we shall see, when we shall see it.

Have a restfull night!

Evening guys

Been working again. I just ate a steak, hasbrowns, and a salad; after taking a 3 hour nap after work. Did I mention I hate spring, the pollen gets everywhere and makes me kinda sleepy. But it feels more like we went straight from winter to summer. A couple of weeks ago it was in the 50s (normal winter weather here) and now it's almost up to 80. Later in the summer it'll probably get to around 100...

My brother went back up to Ohio State yesterday. Looks like him and his friends left some of their alcohol behind.

I finally got a chance to work on trains the other day. So I tried a fix I saw online for my Genesis GP15-1. It involved enlarging the slots for the axles in the trucks so the axles riding on the pick-up bearing instead of the gearbox. I haven't tested it out yet. Supposedly this fix will work for the Genesis Geeps (including the later models up to the GP50) and F-units.

Galaxy and Mr. Beasly, That day also happens to be my parent's 29th anniversary (I think, I know they were married for a few years before I was born). I just have to remember because it's 2 days before my mom's birthday. (I know it's close when my dad stops buying performance parts for his cars, lol)

Richard, happy belated birthday

Ken, Congrats on the upgrade to Store Manager

Angelo Bob, IMO, DCC really is the way to go. Layout wiring is much simplified. The only downside seems to the expense.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, The Manager will have a Beer please

Well I had a good day, Dave the X Manger did not. Seems Paul the GM did not man up and tell Dave in person that he was no longer the manager. They did it today over the phone while I was there. I have had to demote or fire many of mangers and other personal, that is not the right way! All Dave did was put his head in his hands and repeat Oh Boy, Oh Boy. He was told by me many of times what was coming in around about way. I would say Paul wants you to do this and this. Dave would just say "What Ever". Seems What Ever bite him in his Caboose.

Cuda - I wondered what had been keeping you for so long. Now I know. I am not sure whether to congratulate you or offer my sympathies !

YGW This is not my first Redo. At one point in my life I was in charge of 8 states for my X company. If something is wrong, it the middle manager or manger fault. When things are going well, you give your Managers or crew the credit. Plus my boss took most of the credit anyway! Whistling

Like I said before, there is no more $ in it for me, and I do not need another title of manager on my resume. All it really means is I don't need to mess with Dave over ordering stuff we don't need and the clutter he loves to have in the store!

 Later, Ken

As for managers, well, I'm glad I am now retired and don't have to deal with anyone managing me again.  But as for steaks and salads, again I find myself in complete agreement.  Add a baked sweet potato and some broccoli, and there is my own dinner for the evening.

I've been working on two grade crossings, one with just flashers and one with flasher and gates.  The project is getting close to done, with the flashers-only crossings working fine and one gate working on the other.  I worked out a slightly better linkage for the gates, and I'll install that next week after I get back from the ski trip.  I decided that, for now at least, the between-the-rails phototransistors will do for train detection, as they work fine down to a lower level of room light than I'd expected.  I'll work on adding IR LEDs to make a true nighttime system later.

Good evening.

Galaxy ... It has been about 20 years since I was at the B&O Museum. I was there before the roof collapse. ... It is certainly an interesting museum. In particular, I like the really old trains from the 1800's. .... DC is an intersting city to visit too. I used to go there for business trips. ... I got very emotional at the Viet Nam Memorial.

Ken .... I believe you will do very well as manager.

Vincent .... I'm glad you had time for your model trains.

Mr. B ...... Although you have no work boss in retiremnt, there are always honey-do's. Whistling

Model railroading: .... Currently, I am upgrading some old AHM/Rivarossi ore cars.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, a refill of decaf would be great, thank you!

Wow!  What a day...  Had exactly the same meal twice.  Lunch and Dinner....  Lunch was at Club 86 in Geneva.  That was a luncheon for the new Pastor of a Missionary Baptist Church in Town.  The new Pastor is a long time friend of mine now and is the current President of the MLK Committee.  I was invited to sit at a table with four beautiful ladies.  Two of them in their 80's.  One of them was one of the founders of the MLK committee and at one time the chair of the Geneva Human Rights Commission.  She was the one who came into School whenever there was a "Problem".  The administrators were terrified of her, but she was very fair...  She saved my rear a few times back then as she made it very clear to some "problem" students that she and I were friends (Like giving me a bear hug in the main office right in front of the kid who was going to accuse me of.....).  Two other ladies are a few years younger than  me and were parents of kids I taught when I first came to Geneva.  They both at times took me aside back then and coached me on how to best handle certain things in the classroom.  I still admire them both and consider them to be wonderful friends.  I was also very honored to be asked to speak about the good reverend during the program...  (We were limited to 2 minutes for that, so I did one of Victor Borge's routines where he would get half way through an introduction, look at his watch and say, "Oh!  My time is up"!  Then figure out his watch was upside down....")

Tonight was the Boy Scout District Dinner at Abigails in Waterloo.  Owned by the same guy that owns Club 86....  Had exactly the same buffet....  Right down to the same dessert...  I am very glad that I attended the Dinner .  I had to give out a rotating award, The Cannon Award.  And I was given another rotating award tonight!  This one is for the person who is still around after many, many years, I guess.  It is called the "Old Boot Award".  Yep an old work boot with a bunch of stuff tied onto it from all the other old people that got it!  But!!!  The reason I am really, really glad I showed up.  There was a Wood Badge Beading Ceremony at the dinner.  The guy that was recieving his beads was one of my Eagle Scouts way back when.  He also worked for me for several years when I had the sound business. I was grinning from ear to ear most of the night!  Really great!

Right before I left for the dinner I brought in my mail.  Amongst all the other stuff was a letter from my Homeowners Insurance Company.  I thought, should I open it now and know what is in there, or should I wait and worry all evening.  I finally opened it to find a nice fat check from them to help pay for the water damage in the house....  So.........  I will have the Contractor give me an estimate and go from there.

Hope you all have a great evening.  Prayers for all in need!

Isn't that the way with important mail???

And it always arrives on a  Saturday or late after everyone is closed or off for the day, doesn't it?

Never can tell, glad it worked in your favor: now two things: I hope that it is enough for the repairs, ,and they don't cancel or overcharge you from now on!

have a restfull night!
