GOOD MONDAY MORNING!

March 16, 2015!

For those in need:

HEALING ENERGIES,

POSITIVE THOUGHTS

Today's Limericks:

you have to have "some roman numeral humor" for the first ones:

{for her brother's 50th birthday}

A Roman who lacked some civility
Philosophized with great humility
He said, “What the hell,
I’m just turning L
It’s 50 more years to C-nility.”
-Mary Treder, Grand Junction, Colorado

[for 75th birthday}
Now 25 more years are done
And our Roman’s still having his fun
They’re but letters, you see,
i.e. L-X-X-V
In Scrabble that’s just 21!
-Mary Treder, Grand Junction, Colorado

Remember Clerihews?

Rene Descartes
Was definitely smart.
Nobody dumb
Could think up “Cogito, ergo sum.”

-Laura Burns, Galveston, Texas

Limericks again:

An epigram’s witty and terse.
To a clerihew I’m not averse.
Still, I’m gonna stick
With a good limerick,
Although you may think me perverse

-Anne Thomas, Sedona, Arizona

Make it a GREAT DAY

Well since Garry and a few others have eaten all of the diners food I have brought two blue berry pies, two pumpkin pies, two apple pies ( one is for me ! ) , a spiral sliced Va. ham, some green beens and potatos, biscuits cooked on a wood stove and some brown beans with a side of bacon cooked on the wood stove for two days. Eat up and enjoy !

Mr, B. - Dog selling insurance ? Are you drinking from the same cup Galaxy is who seems to be singing a lot about being drunk !

V8 - Generally speaking the blades used now are carbide tipped and they will cut through most any material for long spells. Non carbide tipped blades if they get dull will get hot and warp. Then they are done.

Howmus - Congrats on getting close to making brake man

Jim - Hope the damage from teh flood wasnt to bad

Rob ! Can I have a cup of that coal dust coffee ????!!!!

Welp gotta run and git back to w**k.

Prayers to John boy, Galaxies shoulder, and anyone else in need

Yeah, I'm still around. To stubborn to quit. Since my operation can't eat as much so Barry can have 1/2 of my portions.

Johnboy is undergoing a series of operations. The first two have given him some ability to swallow and this third SHOULD give him more relief.

Have met two neighbors with same type of cancer. We all use same Dr.

Cannot stress hard enough how important it is to have colonoscopy . I know some of you go regularly but if your Dr hints at it -DO IT !!!!!

Prayers for all,

Good Evening Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual humongous cup of coffee with copious amounts of cream, please.  Oh, and add to that a little humble pie.

Ray: Sounds like you have the "situation well in hand."  After you described the situation, I realized I was in over my head.  I am not qualified to do accustical analysis on that level, because to fix that requires a specialist.

We were supposed to have temps near 70 today, and I think we might have gotten there.  But, we're supposed to be back in the 40s tomorrow.  I knew it couldn't last.

Work seems to be going well.  Getting more comfortable with merchandise planning.  Don't want to lose touch with the other stuff I do, though.  Sending out resumes almost daily.  Considering trying to start my own thing up again on the side.  Found a couple of sources for "leads," for lack of a better word.  Amazing things in technology nowadays.  There are sites that potential clients post what they are looking to have done.  im thinking that might be a good way to get into business and build up a client base.  I welcome any thoughts and input.

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.  Ya know, probably in July I'll be wishing everyone to be cool.  And, that's a good thing.

Less is more,...more or less!

Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)

 Evening Dinners

Flo, is there any Beer Left? Good, I will have a Beer

Daves Caboose Chewing Finally happen! I have no idea what the out come was, but pretty sure it was just a slap on the wrist.

Boxer War's. No not the one that happen in China, but in our housing area. Tony lives down the street has a Boxer he lets run lose sometimes with him no where in sight. I am not going to say it is a bad dog, I have no reason to at this point. But, when it see's my Wife walking Sparkie The Rocket Dog it comes running! My wife fills her pant's, panic's then Sparkie starts barking his brains out. Luckly today when it happened she was talkng with a neighbor that intervined while my wife was running into our house.

Police will only do something if they see the dog running lose or bites someone. My wife had a talk with him last summer and explained she has a bad back and bad knees and if she falls she cannot get up on her own! In one ear out the other. I am thinking about buying her a can of Mace but I would hate to have her use it on the Boxer, like I said I have no reason to think it is a mean dog. My self, I rather Mace Tony, but that would cause me problems. Confused

KEN:The problem with the dog is that he probably {they usually do} LOVES his dog as much as yo love Sprakey the wonder dog! Even though he lets it loose, he still will favor his dog. YOu jsut ahve to be on the lookout and call the police and keep reporting when it is unleashed so thay can catch it. Talking to owners of such breeds NEVER lsiten anyway, and feel "invincible' often because they can "strike terror in their neighbors jsut by owning such a breed". They have a 'don't mess with me mentailty", and it works...so just beware!

KEn:Why not look for at elasta  parttime job in addition, doing soemthing else to tide you during lean times at the mattress store...I don't wnat to say you 'lay down on the job' at all {!} NAD if they really like Dave, or he otherwise provides teh owners with good revenue, then a slap on the wrist is all hie is going to get.

I'd also look for something else entirely, then supplenmetn with a part time job, dont' forget your summer A/C bills are goign to be coming due sometime! MOH warsk 2 jobs, 30 horusa t the main job, and anywhere for 4-10 hours at the secodn one, bringing in a mere $35 to $92.50 gross/week depending o the hours MOH gets, but IT mAkes a  HUGE differnce in our finanaces! {about $3k-3,500 last year-and that's not jsut whistling dixie!}

GOOD LUCK!

GOOD TUESDAY MORNING!

March 17th, 2015!

Top 'o The mornin' To ye!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Today, EVERYONE CAN

be IRISH! {I are!}

Today's fine word:

doggerel

PRONUNCIATION:
(DO-guhr-uhl, DOG-uhr-) http://wordsmith.org/words/doggerel.mp3

MEANING:
noun:
1. Comic verse that is irregular in rhythm and in rhyme especially for burlesque or comic effect.
2. Trivial or bad poetry.

NOTES:
Here’s poet John Skelton (c. 1463-1529) defending his doggerels:
For though my rhyme be ragged,
Tattered and jagged,
Rudely rain-beaten,
Rusty and moth-eaten,
If ye take well therewith,
It hath in it some pith.

ETYMOLOGY:
Dogs have a bad rap in the language (see dog’s chance, dogsbody) and the word doggerel reflects that view. The word is apparently a diminutive of the word dog. Earliest documented use: 1405.

USAGE:
In the first world war 324,000 Australians volunteered to fight overseas, an extraordinary number in a nation of fewer than 5m people. Of the 60,000 Australians who died in the war, 8,700 were lost in a few months during a hopeless attempt to capture Gallipoli, a small piece of territory in Turkey. In the words of a piece of doggerel at the time, ‘In five minutes flat, we were blown to hell / Nearly blew us right back to Australia.’”
Obituary: Alec Campbell; The Economist (London, UK); Jun 1, 2002.

Today's fine quote:

Don't ask me who's influenced me. A lion is made up of the lambs he's digested, and I've been reading all my life. -Giorgos Seferis, writer, diplomat, Nobel laureate (13 Mar 1900-1971)

Now, MAKE IT A

GREAT GREEN DAY!

MAY THE LUCK O' THE

IRISH BE WITH YE!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK´S DAY!

After a few quite drab days, it is sunny again, but not yet nice & warm. I hope it improves in the next days, as I am feeling down a little bit. I am eagerly waiting for my new glasses to arrive - life as a half-blind man is no fun!

Wish we´d hear from Johnboy. I do hope his surgery went well!

Nothing to report from my side. The days seem to be endless when you can´t see properly...

Oh yeah.... It is March 17th. ... Have a great St. Pat's Day.

Regarding JohnBoy .... To review.... He was diagnosed with cancer in his upper esophagus more than a year ago. Radiation treatments killed the cancer, but also sealed off his esophagus. ... He has been unable to eat normally, and all nurishment is through tubes. ... In recent weeks, he could finally swallow a very small amount of water. .... He had surgery March 11th to open the esophagus. It is not clear to me, but he might have needed more than one operation in recent days. As with any surgery, there is a period of heeling, and I do not know how much time is needed for this kind of surgery.

Flip emailed me this morning regarding JohnBoy. He said they email regularly back and forth. Flip is also awaiting news from JohnBoy.

So, we will keep JohnBoy in our prayers and will look forward to hearing from him when he can return to the Diner.

"John is into a series of operations. Depending upon the success of each and recovery time it will months till it is over. ..... might be a two year process. He is in good spirits. (And in good hands.) "

Ulrich, remember:  When Irish Eyes are Smiling.  Hang in there.  Yours will be smiling soon, too.

Ken, have you spoken directly with the police department's animal control officer?  Making a generic call to the department won't get you anywhere.  Also, try taking a picture of the offending dog when it's running loose.

I took part in an interesting bit of automotive ballet yesterday.  I pulled up to a traffic light on a 4-lane road at one of those designed-by-colonial-era-cows intersections one town over.  I was in the left lane and there was some traffic in the right.  Cars pulled in behind.  Then, we all saw a problem.  An immense auto carrier was trying to make a left on to our street, and it just wasn't going to make the turn, even into the 2 lanes available.

I checked my mirror.  The car behind me was basically parallel parking into the other lane.  The car behind him backed up.  This gave me room to back up and clear a third lane for the auto carrier to make his turn.  All of this happened with no explicit communication, whistle signals or lanterns.  We just all did it.  The light turned and we all went on our way.  I just thought it was pretty neat, and it brought a smile to my face.

Top o' the mornin' to ya all!

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a ham and cheese sandwitch, toasted on whole wheat bread, a side of french fries, and a cup of decaf coffee for lunch...

Got the Bathroom fan fixed this morning.  The fan could be replaced so it wasn't too expensive.  Water has now started oozing in the basement.  Have to start the siphon several time a day now and plan to have a wet basement every morning until the rest of the sn*w is melted and the ground has dried up a bit.  The contractor will stop by around lunch time tomorrow to give me an estimate on the living room rebuild.  Things are starting to fall into place on all the problems I think.

If the sun decides to come out for a while this afternoon the solar array may hit the 100 kWh mark so far for the month today.  Chilly and windy out there.  Current temp. is 34°F and calling for a high of 40° today.  Don't think it will make it...  Windy as well with a 30mph wind and gusts up to 37mph.  Ooooo!  The sun just appeared and from the look of the sky it may stay out for a bit!

I will be heading over to my son's house to get the girls off the bus today.  There is a bout a 20 minute wait until their Mom gets home from the school where she teaches, so someone has to be there to meet the bus (district policy).

I have been working on some track laying and a bit of scenery for the return loop at the end of the layout for the past several days.  Not much to photograph but will get some shots in a few days.

Barry, good to have you back in the diner!  I have missed your dietary contributions...Whistling

Ulrich, hope your new glasses arrive soon!  Don't forget to show us a selfie of them.

For the others who have been having health problems, I will include you in my prayers...

Have a great day out there!

A quick coffee TO GO, please.

Ken, inconsiderate neighbors like that would definitely make my blood boil.

Thanks for the Johnboy updates. Continued healing thoughts for him and others in need.

Picked up the first bits of lumber so I can at least start on some new bench work. Hope to start on that Thursday, when the rain arrives.

Back outside I go, have more stuff to get done today.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Rob Thanks any of that stuff still brewing ? Been a ROUGH day. The site here crosses two boundries. The county and then the city. This morning the county guy was out beating us up and told me to shut the site down and lock the gates. I refuesed and we had an animated discussion about why he didnt have the authority to do so. He had bad information...Then teh City inspector showed up and tore us up. And failed teh model home inspection. Part of the reason - someone stole the aluminion gutters off of the house !!Bang HeadSigh A few weeks ago someone tried to burn the second model down. Guys I hope you all have a great St Patricks day and here is a Angel for those in pain, sick or hurting. And here is several for John boy AngelAngelAngel
