Its a cool -10F according to my fancy schmancy cell phone out there, -2.8F on the mostly-enclosed with plastic porch amd a wonderfully cool 61.2F in here, but that will change as MOH is now up and will up it to at least 65F.

It COULD STILL GET colder here, as it IS only 5:35 Am, and the coldest here is usually about 7:30, 8AM!

MOH is doing paperwork {which never comes out right} in handwriting {must be done so} in the LR, so I am banished to the "computer room". MOH FAILED to fill out the paperwork for last pay period, shorting the last paycheck,{I could have killed} and now has 4 weeks to keep track of for mileage. and expenses! MOH dreads it so much, puts it off tlil the very last minute and STILL screws it up. I am NOt allowed to watch TV{as moh "can't concentrate" then..still makes mistakes even with it off}. Just one fo the regular arguements we have. It is due by 10AM today. MOH shoudl finish it by oh aobut 8, it is 5:35 now here.OOPS! I can tell by the sound another sheet is wasted!

So, I HOPE THe minivan starts for my Dentist appt, and it will defininetly need a "warm up " before I go. Have to pick up a script also, and do something else, now what was it?

I hope i figure it out before I have to go out.

Stay WARm Stay Happy {at least happier than I am.}

OH, yeah, and the "romantic weekend is off". MOH say ""can't find someone to cover my 4 hour shift on Sat, and I am wrokign Sunday too, i only asked for one day off! Jsut Sat. I siad "you could psot a notice on the bulletin board at work", naw, that won't work"...DUH! NOT if you dont' TRY!!!! I asked for that weekend day off as I will have surgrery on the 4th,a dn then MOH will ahve time off, but I won't be up for much romancing...if you get my drift...physically up for it that is with my shoulder out of commisiion.

Hi Galaxy,

The Lion's Club may be able to aid Ulrich's need for eye wear. The Lion's Club is active in Germany.

rich

I already suggested it,** Catholic Charities, Something like the United way, etc as options, he says there are NONE available to him there in Germany where he is. Since he is on the "public dole" now as there is no work for anymore as an executive, I would have thought there'd be SOMETHING, even soup kitchens to help out save costs on food for them, but he says not in his area.

AS it IS, here amongst his friends, only 6 have offered, including me, and we ahve raised only $220 actual  pledges, and Ulrich himself has $120, so that makes it $340 ONLY,,, only one third the way there! Only ONe has said he has actually sent money on its way to me to collect in an ITF bank account for Ulrich. I will add my $50 to it when it gets here.****

It was more devastating when Jeffrey lost his house, granted, when I started the "crowd funding here for him".but I'd have thought we could raise a mere $900 instead of the $2600 we raised for Jeffrey's house.

**Somehow we should be able to help Ulrich, Then there is the fact that even WITH The lion's club, he needs specialized glasses for his particualr macular problem, and the Lions club is unlikely to have those particualr specialized glasses in stock. These are not jsut glasses, these are specially designed to KEEP ULRCIH FORM GOING BLIND....

MOH "needs" "special glasses" and they are the expensive ones here, but only $500 here, and they are NOT as "special" as Ulrichs, just mOH has to have the most expensive pair on the block for lenses ONLY, forget frames! I can only imagine what Ulrich's are! And MOh has no macualr probelms either.

Ah well, anyone who wnats to crowd fund/donate, simply PM me, last I knew it was working, haven't had one in a couple of days?

****even if we don't collect the full amount, it will go to Ulrich,as it still gets him closer to his glasses...but, again, I only know of one donation, besides mine,  acutally on it's way to here!

P.S. Ulrich himself isn't on anymore so much as it hurts his eyes now to be on the 'puter, it hurts mine nad I have no macular problems!

ah well, what you gonna do?

It always A} makes me feel good period to donate to help someone/organization out, and b} something good always comes back to me when I least expect it from the universe.Sometimes in money, others in other things.

Evening Diners, long time no talk.

Since we're talking about weather, here's mine.

It been hot here in the entire month of February. Probably the ground hog decided for us the announcement of early Spring. But I call it Summer. I'm getting ready to start up the swamp cooler, instead of using the small fan in the living room.

Hey Barry!

Good to see you, my friend!  Flo, put Barry's snack on my tab please.  Hope you are staying warm up there in Siberia!  We are having our daily blizzard here in the Finger Lakes Region...  Total white out outside my window at the moment.  So much for clearing off the solar panels a few hours ago.  Didn't get much cleared anyway.  Only about 4 of the 18 panels, but I was hoping the sunshine we had earlier would create enough power to help melt a bit of the foot + of sn*w up there.

Currently 10°F outside and going down to -8°F tonight...  Brrrrrr!

Been doing some odds and ends of things down cellar in the train rooms this afternoon.  About on my way down tyhere to do a couple loads of wash.  That will give me another reason to just hide out down there...

Later!

Italian roast coffee in a ARIZONA EASTERN RAILWAY mug, please.

***Garry, how did you go about adding the sound effects?

I expect one of those "out for delivery" messages tomorrow. Some stuff from Trainworld.Cool

Over did it yesterday (barely putting weight on ankle a few times while using crutch) which seemed to go OK during the day. But by late evening, I was in so much pain last night, had to revisit ibuprofen just to get some sleep. This one is going to be a long recover process.Sigh

Have a great day all.

Good morning!  Yes, I got my graphics card in the mail, and my "real" computer is back up and running.  Now, I can wait for my next package, train stuff from M.B. Klein.  It's reached "Out For Delivery," so I expect to have it before dinner time.  That's the NJ International crossing gates, the Tortoise and the linkage parts for the gates, so I can install those while I wait for the electronics.

I was going to clean up the inch or so of snow from last night, but there's a snow shower passing through so I'll wait.  It sounds like we all plan to do train stuff today while snowbound.

Good morning.

-4 degrees F when I awoke this morning. ... The lake rarely has ice on it, but now it has ice on the surface..... This is a good week to stay in the model train room. ..... Bad weather all week so far.

I'm continuing to work on building a stock yard.

Is anyone else working on model railroads because bad weather keeps us indoors?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, can you pull the shades down?  Man something outside is blinding me!  What?  Oh, the sun is out today....  Anyway, I'll have a couple of those great sour cream glazed donuts and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee please.  Ah....  The R&GV RR mug would be fine.

If there wasn't a foot or so of white STUFF on the solar panels, I would be getting a good show from them today.  Last February they produce 210 kWh of ewlecdtric for me (one of the low months).  So far this February they have produced .45 kWh.  That's right 450 watt hour of electric. As soon as I can this morning I will try to clear off a few panels and see if they will start.  If I can get a few going it will produce heat to clear the rest of them (I hope).

Currently 7°F out there with a high of 13°F!  Whoopie!  Also in the forecast for today, Froday, Saturday, and Sunday?  STUFF!  SN*WY STUFF!!!  Actually we won't get a whole lot, this is mostly lake effect and the worst should stay north of here, but!

Took Blackie to the Vet yesterday.  Blood sugar was good according to her.  It was 247 and it was late in the day.  She wants to continue to monitor it late afternoon.

Plan to spend some quality time with the layout today....  I'm sure something will keep that from happening.

Catch you all later!

Good Morning!!

Kinda coolish here...the mighty -13F with windchill of -30F right now. Winds from the northwest up to 35mph expected...lovely stuff...NOT!!!Bang Head

The house is now warm and we are not going out today...nor tomorrow by the looks of things...

So I may be going to my mancave and see about a couple of reluctant turnouts that don't...

Have a good day...such as one can find in this winter....Confused

Good morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have a big bowl of steaming hot grits, with a pat of butter and some cinnamon sugar, plus my usual gargantuan cup of coffee with boo coo cream, please.

The morning started at -8F, but right now in my neighborhood there is no wind for the moment.  It might be a blessing in disguise that my job start was deferred for a week because I ain't going nowhere today!  Of course, if I had to go to work, I would cheerfully do so, but I think you understand that.  Funny thing is that the front is supposed to pass thru and the wind will turn to coming from the SW and the temps are supposed to be in the high 20s - low 30s tomorrow.  That's like a 40 degree change.  I think "supposed to" is the operative phrase here.

Been playing a very little with SCARM.  It has some limitations, but it's not that bad.  Trying to do a 15x20 plan that I hand sketched years ago.  Will try to post when basic plan done.

i hope everyone is OK, safe and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Galaxy: thanks for the info on Jeff. He was a really great guy. He certainly did not deserve to suffer that way. Yea there are tears coming from me also. I'm sure that he is at the Loards right hand doing his magic on His layout. God Bless him.

Yes, I truely miss him. I never thought someone I only knew by 'net {email, messaging here, formus}, and also only via Phone, snail mail and other methods of shipping ONLY would affect me/my life so much!

I never met him in person, though would have loved to!

He was definitely a wonderful human being, such a waste diabetes made of his! sad.

He was always fair in his dealings as far as i can tell.

Only one person He ever complained about that I know of!{his nephew}

So he will be missed, and IS missed for a long time...

Good evening .

Rob ... I'm not planing on getting the sound equipped stock cars. I do, however, have sound effects installed at the stock yards next to the meat packing plant. It makes an impression when I have visitors.

Mark and Uncle Bob ... I actually road behind GG1's on trips east when I was young. Still Pennsy then.

Barry .. It's nearly that cold here. Our weather this week is like the stuff I recall in Michigan. ... Good you have a model railroad friend who bought a house close to you.

Paul... Again it is great to see you. Please feel free to visit the Diner more often.

Mr. B... The flasher signals look excellent.

Galaxy ... Sorry to hear of the nearby fire. .. Hope the prcedure was okay.... Never recieved the PM of a few days ago.

Happy Model Railroading.

I finally got the graphics card for my computer at about 5:30 this afternoon.  I'd gone out to check the mailbox, and there was the truck just a few houses down, so I waited and saved her a few steps.  The mail is definitely taking longer to get delivered in this weather.  Once I got inside, I had the computer up and running again in 15 minutes.  Still, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the screen come up, because it had been a leap of faith to order the card, even though all indications said that's what it was.

Meanwhile, I've got the crossing signals done:

They need a bit of touch-up paint, but I've checked out the lights and they work fine.  Still waiting for the electronics before I can install them.

I never saw a GG-1 other than the one in Strasburg.  I missed out on a lot because of my age -- Pennsy electrics, everyone's steam, passenger trains, etc.  But around 20 years ago, I saw.  bunch of old boxcars roll through DeWitt, NY.  I took a goodly number of pictures of old GN and NP cars -- only to discover later that my camera had no film!  GAH!!!!

My knee is still stiff and weak.  I'm supposed to start 8 weeks of PT next week. I've still got pain in the kidney that was lasered.  And it's still colder than Siberia, though at least the temps got above 15 for a change.

Galaxy, I hope you don't get sick from inhaling the smoke from your neighbor's fire.

Good afternoon,

Coffee please.

Getting ready to go to that pit in the planet called Reno to do my last night on the job for the week. The idiots opened the warehouse in the middle of a ghetto. Doesn't make me feel to secure when I have to leave the personal defense in the car. Then it's a 120 mile round trip to go there...ugh. Even with a new car it's an unnerving drive.

Been in a time warp lately with railroading and model railroading memories...helps take the mind off the job. I was remembering the last days of the GG1's in the Keystone corridor around 1980.

This shot was in December 1979 in Harrisburg at the Amtrak station.

Don't have much in rideable railroading around here...that's one of the major things I miss about life in southeast Pennsylvania. Someday...maybe. I be able to move back and I'll have commuter rail again, won't have to depend on driving so much.

Well. Got to go. Ugh.

FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

NO! NOT here!

but a trailer on the OTHER SIDE oF  the PArk is ON FIRE!

I lost a house {rented} to an electrical fire once, SO I know/empathize/sympathize/commiserate with those people!

But BOY the stench brings back memories! It was at night, the neighbors weren't home, I had bad smoke inhalation, and was treated at the hospital, the guy in the ambualnce I scared due to I stopped breathing on him twice on the way to the hospital. I had to crawl out my BR window...and bang on the neighbors door and nobody home. so walked/staggared 2 short blocks to convenince store nearby to call O {before 911 was complete-they had no idea WHERE I was with a house on fire...} and such.never midn, BAD memories!

I mayjust have to take up collection for them to help out!

It was a much older trailer, but any age can happen, especially since HEAT TAPES are heavy use demanded on now! last trailer to burn here took out 3 others because the dude whose trailer started it turned ON his heat tape {they are automatic and turn on/off by temp setting} by the breaker {he as "saving electricity" and 'thought' you only turned it on for FROZEN pipes, DOH!}} and it had water dripping on it and *poof* fire took out 4 trailers! It was a WINDY day, the flames carried in the air to 3 other trailers!

well, LION, I woud like to keep the heat around 52 myself, MOH won't have it below 62 at night{has electric blanky-i don't} and won't go lower than 65 when at home...I say "wear a sweater or your robe if cold}. I LIke IT COOL too. Don't need to start yet another fight righ t now. SO I turn DOWN when MOH is gone, adn up when MOH is home. WHne MOH is goen all dayat wrok, it saves utility.

Wel, Fire truck blowing horn, so must be out and moving on....

later
