Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could use a cup of decaf right now.  yes, use my R&GV RR Mug please.

Been a busy day around here as usual.  Got the path cleaned out so I could take the trash and recyling dumpsters out to the street, Mailed about 70 letters to Modeling related companies asking for donations for the convention raffles and Silent Auction baskets.  Talked to an insurance adjuster for about a half hour about the water damage here.  Doubt I will get anything from my insurance (I have a $1,000 deductible).  I gave him my email as talking on the phone is rediculous at best for me.....  He said I would get an email later today.  Haven't heard anything yet.  I'll give it few days and then call again.  Tried to get a haircut twice today.  First time I drove over thewre the place was packed, so I decided to go grocery shopping and come back later.  Came back later and he was closed for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow I have a hearing test.....  The doc will then come back in the room shaking his head and telling me a have a major hearing problem.  That I already know about nd there isn't much they can do (that I can in any way afford anyway).  I will ask if they can turn up the T-cell setting on my hearing aids so that the phone doesn't sound like: hello, is this...  I'm calling to talk to you about....  I keep telling people to email me...  I can still see, I can't hear!

Someone remind me please, which of the boxes do I copy from Photobucket, to post a pic inside a post here?

Rob on the left side of the page in photobucket when you have clicked on the photo you want to post here, click the choice.  You can then just set the curser in the forum where you want the photo to go and then paste the [IMG ] photoname[IMG ] there.  For me with the Mac I just put it there using "command-v".  When you put the post on the forum, The photo will show.  For instance:

[IMG ]http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h259/slow_rr/SLOW_RR_III/HowardsDairy18w_zpstizdrswu.jpg

(I added a space so the code will show)

It then will show the photo when you Submit the reply.

Kinda like that.

Catch you all later!

Good evening Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual gargantuan cup of coffee with boo coo cream, please.

Yes, I'm with Rob, I too,  would like to know how to post a photo.  I know it has been covered before, but there are new people logging on to the site all the time. It would be nice if Mr. Otte could include the procedure along with the rules.  That would be helpful.

YGW:  I'm doing merchandise planning for a major retailer.  It's not quite interior design, but it is related.

Speaking of jobs, with the new gig, it's contract work, but I'm home in the evening, no more working into the night, 40 hours, etc.  the only drawback is that it can only go for a year and then I have to go somewhere else for 90 days before I can return.  So, in light of that, I'm still looking for a more permanent job, but we'll see.

MOH just texted that she's on her way home.  She's going to bake cookies tonight for church this weekend.  No, I won't eat any of them.

i hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Vega - Shooting ? As in gun shooting ? Picture shooting ? rail fan shooting ? Anyone of these activities would be FUN !

Galaxy - What is wrong with the van ?

Garry - That is one awsome picture !

I have a 1994 F-150 that I am the orginial ower of. It has 250k miles and a knock in the engine that sounds like a rod is about to blow through the side of the motor ( 302 ) I found a junk yard engine for 525 dollars but it doesnty look like it will be suitable for my older truck ; ( . So I think my mechanic is going to rebuild my engine and it appears that it will cost about 1k more than I orginially budgted for. Not happy about that BUT soon I will have my full size V8 5speed F150 back on the road at a fraction of the cost of a new truck. Have you seen the cost of the new ones !!!? You know they are way over priced when one has to buy extra insurance to cover the cost of replacement if you total the truck just off of the sales parking lot to cover what the std. insurance will not cover ! I remember when you could buy a work truck for a few thousand dollars not a few ten thousand dollars !!!! SoapBox

Italian roast coffee in a APACHE RAILWAY mug, please.

***Garry, each square = 1'. My two mainlines will consist of Kato Unitrack Radius 22.5 degree (28 3/4" & 31 1/8") track. Those (HO) Intermountain Cab Forward locos could run on this, yes?Whistling BTW, that's a beautiful pic.

***YGW, nice idea, but the highest tracks will not be nearly that high for an arched bridge there.

Lovely snow blanket across the farm this morning. Not quite the Winter Wonderland of last year, but worthy of note. I keep forgetting which of those boxes to copy on photobucket, in order to paste pics in here?

The minivan is in the shop....AGAIN...hopefully they will fix it rihgt this time?

Here is today's word: You know it,,, or do you?:

per se

PRONUNCIATION:
(puhr SAY) http://wordsmith.org/words/per_se.mp3

MEANING:
adverb: In or by itself; intrinsically.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin per se, translation of Greek kath auto. Earliest documented use: 1505. Perse is something different.

NOTES:
Today’s term makes an appearance in the word ampersand which is a corruption of “and per se and”. What does it mean? Earlier the & symbol was considered the 27th letter of the alphabet. Yes, they used to say “A to ampersand” instead of “A to Z”. It’d be awkward to recite the alphabet as “... X Y Z &” (and what?), so schoolchildren reciting the alphabet would end it with “& per se and”, meaning the symbol &, by itself, is the word “and”.
Where did the symbol & come from? It’s a corruption of “et”, the Latin word for “and”. That explains why sometimes “etc.” is written as “&c”.

USAGE:
SHERLOC will not be searching for life per se—only for the trail it leaves behind.”

Good morning. ... Coffee and a doughnut please.

JohnBoy .... Thanks for commenting about my situation. My next appointment is March 11, but it wll go well I'm sure. ... ... Best wishes to you for your appointment today and your March 11 procedure.

Galaxy ... I hope your situtations with health, car, etc. improve.

Ken ... Sounds like a lot of problems with the E6. Also, you had a thread about an E7 with a gear problem. You are having a string of bad luck. In general, my old Proto 2000 E units have few problems like you have. I do not like the little journal box covers on the trucks which fall off and vanish, however.

Here is a picture of a cool sunset I took last night looking under our deck.

Galaxy - How much does Ulrich need in total ?

Ken - That stinks about the broken locomative. Can it be glued back together ?

John boy - I was sooooo sick I was down for seven or eight days. I just got in bed, turned off the electronics, phones etc and slept for three soilid days on waking long enough for a sip of water and then out again. I was so sick my kids asked their step mom if I was going to die. It was rough. I beleive Garry sid he had a few weeks go also. I am sure he can testify how awful this strain is.

Rob - Here is a thought across the opening build a high arch bridge that connecte the right and left side ?

 Evening Dinners

Flo, a Beer Pleases. What? The Buick guy was here lastnight? Surprise

Thank all of you for wishing me a Happy Brithday! It was OK, but I have ha better. Far as gifts, I did OK. Got a $50.00 Shell gift card, 1/64th scale 69 Dodge Daytona and another new pair of sweat pants.

What sort of made my Brithday Bad? The curse of the E-6! I had the front truck fixed and was soldering on the power wires. I was turning the engine around to get to the wires better with the worm gear cover off so I could solder. Front truck tipped over the edge of the desk and hit the Floor! Bang HeadBroke off the side frame mounting points on the frame them self, not the truck. If it had been the truck it self I be OK, I have a spare, but no side frame. Whistling

Working with the Idot Front. Sigh I was asked Monday 3 diffrent times by 3 driffrent people if Dave my coworker / manager was drunk at work this weekend. He is repeating him self on the phone, talking to him self, getting hostile with me, and just making stupid mistakes!

Today I found out he sold a $400.00 Mattress and wrote down a $1000.00 Mattress sku on the ticket. They delivred the $1000.00 mattress and the customer called me and wanted to know why the wrong one was sent? Whistling We get a report every morning showen what we sold. We sign it and fax it back after checking it to make sure it was right. Want to guess who checked and signed it? Yep, Dave! Dunce

Looks like he may be stealing as well. Had a coulpe come in to do a comfort exchange that Dave wrote up. We requard they buy a Mattress protector at the time they bought the mattress from us. Well, there was none on the store copy of the ticket. They all so said Dave gave them a set of sheets and a pillow as well at the time they made the purches!

Why would Dave not have the extra stuff on the ticket? Hmm Easy, there is a $150.00 spiff (Extra commission) on the mattress. But, if you sell it for to little there is no spiff! If you added on the extra $ iteams they said Dave gave them that was not on the ticket Dave would not made the extra $150.00.

 See you all later, Ken

Whistling

I see that I missed Ken's Birthday.  Let me buy a round for the Diner in his honor.   Happy Birthday Ken and hope for the best for your foot.  You are on my prayer list.

Glad you are home safe and sound from your trip Garry, Hope the Medical went well and your Wife had a good trip to Michigan.

Galaxy, really hoping that the medical issues go well for you.  Also that the car issues get settled to your satisfaction.  for your FYI,  not all Midas shops are as you found that one to be.  My Son  #3 manages a Midas here in the city and they pride themselves in not having come backs using quality parts and they have a long list of satisfied customers that keep coming back for other issues that crop up with their vehicles.  Their shop has even won several awards for being the top producing shop in Canada for several different months.

Was great to here from Paul. Hope you don't get much winter down there this year.

YGW> We were wondering what had happened to you. You usually are so regular in here and then you just disappeared.

Rob, I like the looks of what you have drawn up, that gives you a great footprint for a fine layout. Sure hope your ankle heals up quickly. Stay off it as much as you can and I know that is difficult for you.

Well, I have to work in the morning so I had better head for bed. Tomorrow afternoon I have to check in at the Head and neck Cancer clinic for a check-up. Then back to Saskatoon on the 11th of March for another treatment on the ol' esophagus.

Sleep well all.

Rob ....  The shape for the proposed layout has good possibilities. How big is it? Can it have a 30 inch minimum radius for curves?   It is good to have a loop at each end of a double track mainline. That is how I have my layout.

Everyone.  Still can't do PM's. How do you have your settings ?

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a Reuben Sandwitch with potato chips and one of those nice Dill Pickles for lunch.  Oh decaf coffee would be fine...

Currently hanging at 19°F outside today.  Could go up a couple degrees, but....  good thing is the sun is shining, so in between some errands and other things that need to take a priority I have been trying to get the solar panels roof raked off a bit.  Very slow going i might add.  I have all of 4 of the 18 panels clear.  Hoping I can get a couple more clear enough to fire up and melt what is left.  I still have not even made a half kWh this whole month.  Last February they produced 216 kWh so I am not a happy camper....  The high for this whole month was 33°F on two different days.  That will remain the record for the month if the forecast holds true.  First week of March doesn't look to be much better!

Hope all of you are doing well!  I best get back to acomplishing some things.

Was just wondering, were there railroads back in the steam days that "patched over" tender lettering? I know it's common for more modern power, so just wondering if it was done in the old days?

JAMES MOON

Galaxy, what was the shops conclusion on your brake problem.  Ken, wasn't Midas the king who kept all the gold?  Always figured that was why the repair chain came up with the name.

No, MR. Moon,

King Midas wished that "all I touch truns to gold" to have riches beyond his wildest dreams.

So once his wish was granted, he touched a goblet , and it turned to gold!

He touched a platter, it turned to gold!

He went about his palace touching things, they all turned to gold!!

Then: he touched his living beautiful daughter.....and....she turned to solid rock-hard gold...

He asked his wish be recinded...

Moral?

be careful what you wish for,"all that you touch" is not what you want for gold, etc.

Good Evening,

The Siberian Express continues to have its way with us as well. Got to 2F now back down to -4F with a windchill of.... -20F...and, to top this all off, I just got out of the office right into a bunch of white STUFF which made driving a PITA SoapBox Bang Head

What would have been a 15 minute drive turned into a 75 minute drive...

Tonight not going out ...buying survival basics tomorrow and sheltering out of the bitter cccold winds and such...try to keep warm guys!!!

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...
