Happy New Year!

Sounds like most of us had similar evenings. My wife and I watched a couple of episodes of Foyle's War right past midnight until about 1:30. I had asked her if she wanted to interupt it for midnight and the answer was no with no disagreement from me. We did snack on some panettone with coffee and tea.

Great to see so many in the Diner.

No plans much for today so I might run trains a bit. I put a few passenger cars on the track and have the Pacific out of the engine house so some high speed running is in order.

Hi All.

My first post at the Diner.  This is a very nice tribute to Jeffrey.  Had a quiet New Years celebration hear in Northern Virginia with my wife and daughter who is visiting us from the U.K.  Wishing all a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year.

All the Best.

Mornin' everyone!  Happy new Year!  Very good to see the place crowded this morning!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 Special this morning, over easy eggs, a couple sausage links, Home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast.  I'll also need my Seneca Lake Blend Organic Dark Roast Coffee to washy it all down with....  Oh, in my R&GV RR Mug please!

Got home from my son's house at Midnight Thirty this morning.  I had my glass of some good Seneca Lake Riesling wine and snacked way too much.  My taste is off again and the only thing that tasted good to me was stuff I shouldn't be eating much of (candy, and sweets). We played some Wii games, bowling, golf, and baseball.  My DIL tryed to find something good to watch on TV around 9:30 and checked out almost all of the 800 or so channels available and found exactly what I already knew....  There is absolutely nothing worth watching anymore on the Idiot Box, so after briefly watching the news...  From that we found out it was New Years Eve and everyone who is anyone is out in the streets around the world acting like idiots to ring in the New Year and make a big mess....  So we played some more Wii games until close to Midnight where we got to watch Times Square where they had a popular singer on stage half clothed and freezing to please the crowd....  Yawn!  At Midnight that big ugly "Ball" slid down the pole in the Rotten Apple and we all used Bernoulli's Principle to make some noise on the provided horns, then all touched glasses and downed a bit of bubbly.  I then headed back home before I fell asleep on the couch.  All told a really exciting evening......Whistling  (I do enjoy being around the family!)

So....  The diner is down in Loseyanna huh?  Sounds good and hopfully will be a bit warmer than Chicago was and with better food besides!

Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful 2015!

Good morning and Happy New Year to everyone!

As expected, I passed on the brouhaha and went to bed early.  Penny is still fighting a cold, so she (for once) made the right decision to stay home.  We watched a couple of episodes of The Tudors on Netflix and then I went to bed, after a brief detour to understand the historical inaccuracies of the production.  (Henry VIII had two sisters really, but the show compressed them into one, and had her marry the aging king of Portugal, not France, and then smother the poor guy with a pillow, another fiction.)

It's bright and sunny out today, with a high predicted to be just above freezing.  Next week we start with some rain in the 50s, but then serious winter will be here mid-week, although still no snow on our bare ground.

Greetings everybody, and Happy New Year!

My home hangout is Running Bears Coffee Shop across the street.  I used to be a 'regular' in here back when it was first created in 2004, but haven't posted here in several years.  JimRCGMO might still remember me - and so would Jeffrey if he was still with us [RIPAngel]

I'll try to participate more from now on.

Today will be the parade, and MOH will watch the Southern CA peeps freezing out there! I say that as it will be COLD where they are in Pasadena.

It is currently at 3:30 AM a whole 35F, feels like: 35F, No wind.Forecast 31/54F

Good Morning, Folks!

Wow! I am overwhelmed by the number of posts here in Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner, only shortly after it was opened in its new location! When facilitating the move I forgot to mention where we are for the month. I thought Louisiana would be a nice place - to be more specific, it´s New Orleans. A tour bus will take us to Leesville, so we can pay our respect to Jeffrey. I still can´t imagine this place without his contributions.

YGW - you asked what I need to get started on my layout. Actually, very little. I have nearly all the track I need, it´s just a few curved sections, a few lengths of flex track and two Peco switches, not to forget cork roadbed. What I need the most is a kick in my backside to buy the lumber I need for the benchwork and time in my friend´s workshop to make it. I had to dismiss any idea of a quick & clean way of building a lightweight and cheap benchwork. Styrofoam won´t work, because it will not allow to attach the catenary poles securely to it. I will try to have the benchwork up within this month.

Progress on this layout will be slow - dead slow, but that´s fine with me. Although only the visible part will be equipped with catenary, that stuff is really expensive and it will take me a couple of years to save up the required funds. My monthly budget is to the tune of $ 10 and that won´t reach far, considering European prices. Rome wasn´t build in one day - my layout won´t, either.

Have a happy January 1st, 2015!

Dropping in to say Hello to all at the new Diner. A fitting honor to have it renamed for Jeffrey since he was a regular here.

Wishing all the best to everyone and their families this coming year.

I still have 53 minutes left until it is 2015, so can someone hurry up and get me the Lottery numbers for January 1st? Big Smile

I wrote a rushing experience on the previous month, but I hope it went well.

It took me three months but I finally got a haircut. The hair was bothering my right ear and my eyes.

It's raining here in Tucson with a little showers. ( I believe for 5 hours straight.)

Happy New Year and talk to you later probably tomorrow. Good night.

Good Evening, Chloe - and Zoe too (maybe expecting a crowd tonight)? Well, I will have hot chocolate (with those little marshmallows, please) in a L&A mug, in honor of Jeffrey. Thank you, and a toast to Jeffrey (and others who may have left us this year) and to the New Year ahead of us (or some in other parts of the world who have started on us already).

May we recall our friends (here, gone now, or still to meet in the years ahead), and celebrate the hobby that brings us together (as Doug said much better than I did).

Blessings on your 2015, and may it bring healing, comfort, and rest,

Jim in Cape G.

I'm not normally a participant here. Doc says stay out of such places. I do want to say I think it's quite fitting to rename it after Jeffrey and a suitable honor to his memory.Chef

Good evening everyone,

It's been awhile since I've been here. I am so pleased to see the diner renamed in honor of Jeff Wimberly. A very fitting dedication.

Last week was the first I heard of his passing and was quite saddened. What hit me more than anything was knowing he was just slightly more than a year older than me. I never met him, but wish that I could have. He seemed like someone who I would have enjoyed an afternoon of train 'pow wow' with, then just go and run trains. My impression was that, not only was he very knowledgable and positive, but also someone with a somewhat dry type of humor. I imagine him sitting at the computer keyboard writing a thread response with a devious grin. Anyway...that's merely my impression. From my side of things...he will be missed.

This night is a quiet, home based holiday as it's been for a good number of years. A little light indulgence at home with the dog and cat poking around, I'll watch movies and tinker on the layout. Living here in the northern Nevada casino land puts all sorts of irresponsible...crazies out on the road. On a night like tonight, going out on the highway is much like playing Russian roulette with a loaded automatic instead of 1 round in a six shot revolver. (Strange but appropriate metaphor)

For me New Year is just another year and a reminder of I'll be another year older.

So to those into the New Year thing...Happy New Year.

To everyone else...have a good night.

Thank you Ulrich for doing such a fine job of seeing the re-furbishing and moving of the Diner.  BTW where are we for the month of January ???

Gotta be Sundown Louisiana, no?

Flo, a hamburger, fries, and Diet Pepsi.

WEll,

I, like Johnboy, thought I'd stop in to say hi and be in the single digits of the *new, improved* diner!

Someone suggested I "open" the dinner again, once it reaches the East Coast of USA.Ulrich has a 6 hour advantage on us at being on that side of the pond...he experiences 2015 long before we do, but long after Australia and NZ and other parts of the world.

I will certainly post a NY'ers NY's greeting, though it seems it is well open already! I am not the only one on this coast!

Well well well..... Hello Railfans one and all! Let me first make the compliment on the new decor - thanks to our talented friend Ulrich. Well done, tasteful, and well said. I like it!

Flo? I spose the drink of the evening is champagne. There are many things we should raise our glasses too. To wit:

1) Jeffrey Wimberly, the new namesake of the diner. I raise my glass and toast his friendship, gentility, service, railfanmanship, and honor his lasting memory.

2) To those among us, friends, family, loved ones who share and make part of, our daily lives.

3) To the brotherhood of railfans, for which without this forum, we would all be strangers. I am thankful for such a place as "Jeffrey's Trackside Diner", and the folks who patronize it.

4) To the Greatest Hobby in the World. For which has given me decades of enjoyment, and a passion to live for.

5) To the new year (still 4hrs away for me). Heres wishing its a dog gone sight better than the last.

6) To those in poor health. For your struggles in life which seem harder as of late. May you all enjoy one more year amongst us in good health.

7) To the landlords who provide us this space to reverent on topics good and bad. Heres to another year of continued success in bringing the hobby to the world.

8) And to you, the reader reading this now.... Heres to you, for all your help, understanding, sharing of knowledge, and most of all.... your friendship in our great hobby.

In General - I want to wish each and everyone of you the safest, Happiest New Year for you and your loved ones. May you have everything you wish for except one thing...... so you will always have something to strive for.

Happy New Year fellow Railfans!

Your friend,

Douglas

Hello all!

First visit to the diner for me! I hear this place is like cheers, so I thought I'd swing in for a few.

Well, tonight I'm hard at work here in Kansas City, but hope to be home about an hour before the ball drops on our year. Was thinking that I'd throw the coverage up on the TV and chip away at my layout. Its been about 14 months so far since I started my 15x12 and I'm slowly getting things done. I'm at about the halfway point in the track process which has been a lot of fun.

I'm not much for going out on the town drinking (and I am on call) but for those of you who do, be safe and have fun!!! Happy New Year to all.

Hi Everyone,.

Hey Flo, please fetch a big cup of coffee with boocoo cream.  This is my first post on the diner, not that it matters.  I never met Mr. Wembley, but what little I knew of him it would seem fitting that the diner be renamed after him.  Now older and wiser, I don't go in much for the celebration do N ew Years, but I hope everyone will be safe and sound.

Less is more,...more or less!

Happy New Year to all the Diner Patrons!!

A quiet evening for my wife and I, just likely watch a little telie and then have a few snacks. We used to go out for lavish dinners that started about 10 p.m. but I just don't have the constitution or desire to do that anymore.

Jerry, nice to see you in here. I can relate with the DPM hotel as I put one of those together last winter. It took me a couple of weeks to get all the window frames painted.

Sure do miss Jeff.

See you in the New Year.

Ulrich .... Thanks for starting the first thread for Jeff's Trackside Diner.

Jeff was a friend to everbody in the MR Forum and the Diner in particular.

We can fondly remember Jeff's positive attitude and his sense of humor.

YGW .... Thanks for commenting in one of final posts in December Diner, but to clear it up. Our youngest two adult children were born on December 31st two years apart. Not one year apart.

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Just a selfish moment here for me.. I wanted to be in on the new Diner in the single digits of posting, and also to welcome those who come after to "Jeffrey's Trackside Diner. Also to Toast it's namesake with a glass of JSTL, (if I can get it down--for two reasons). Jeffrey, you will always be in our thoughts as we enter the Diner and you  will always cross our minds when discussing a point as to what would Jeff have to say about this.  You will always be missed....

I was the Guy who gave him the handle of "The Spray Can Rembrandt" many years ago, it seems.

Thank you Ulrich for doing such a fine job of seeing the re-furbishing and moving of the Diner.  BTW where are we for the month of January ???

Hope you all have a safe New Years Eve. No Drinking and Driving,  not even two fingers worth Ray !!!

Best Wishes to All.
