Janie, can I get another cup of Hot Chocolate.... Man! It is cccccooolllddd out tonight! Looks a bit sparse in the diner today so I'll try to brighten things up with a bit of "Upstate, NY" humor.... Well it is supposed to be humor but really it is just the truth.
YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRUE UPSTATE NEW YORKER WHEN:"Vacation" means going South past Syracuse for the weekend.
You measure distance in hours.
You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.
You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again.
You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching.
You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.
You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend/wife knows how to use them.
You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction.
You can identify a southern or eastern accent.
Down South to you means Corning.
Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new shed.
You go out for a fish fry every Friday.
Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost.
You have more miles on your snow blower than your car.
You find 10 degrees "a little chilly."
You actually understand these jokes, and you forward them to all your Upstate New York friends and to those who used to live here and left.
Later!

Afternoon folks!
Chloe, a cup of hot chocolate would warm me up at the moment...
Back from the Vets.... Not good news. Blackie after a 6 hour fast showed a blood sugar of 437! They like to see it between 150 and 200.... So he will be starting on insulin soon. I am waiting to hear from the Pharmacy for the insulin and the needles he will need, and the Vet Office is ordering in a pet glucose testing kit for me. I did get a practice on giving Blackie the injections at the office while I was there (just pure water). He didn't even flinch when I gave it to him so that will not be a problem. Doing the sugar testing will be more problematic as I might need 3 hands to get that done. We shall see what we shall see. The pharmacy will be giving me a call when they have the insulin and needles for me.
Currently 13°F (feels like -2°F) outside.... I did make all my errands driving the PiP in EV Mode today. Have to be carefull when it is this cold out not to push the car too much until the battery gets warmed up a bit. Asking for too much from the battery kicks the ICE on (Internal Combustion Engine) and wastes gas to warm up the car. I am glad the car has heated seats... Keeps my Butt warm....
Manét has been coughing all day. Gave him the hairball remedy before I took Blackie to the vet. Hopefully that will get the hair to pass through him and not come back up onto the carpet!
Lota of STUFF to still get done today. Later!
Well,
At 14 ambient degrees F it seems warm in the sun...which is actaully out today, but it is really -4 below zero 'real feel', so at that rate it is colder than an ice cube on a wet tongue! It will only get colder, others can beat those temps I am sure. We will have to drip the faucets tonight to be sure not to have frozen popes. The ole north winds howl today!
Went out in the blustery winds to boht CUs, we are transferring {we think} form one to the other, but the "one" is closer and the "other" is a distance. Now granted we can do things without ever stepping into them, but you know this old dinasaur's reasons for not doing things online, if you don't, think the word "compromised" and you will get it.
Mr. B: so you talkin' about the Amherst Society's show?:
http://www.railroadhobbyshow.com/
Sure would love to go but to late now probably to get a room, and MOH should be safe from surgery, but who knows? That and shortage of funds will keep me home.
Otherwise I'd go looking exclusively for "Z" scale stuff!!! I am bound and determined to have 2 loops in a plastic "under the bed box". DC will be fine, they won't do much but go around, and maybe drop off a car at a siding. Not in an under-bed box, anyway!

DArn, after a week of NOT, that tooth candidate for Root canal is starting to act up again, just now.
well, dinner will be cooking a couple dinners at once in the oven, so it is sure to warm up the place! Usually raises the LR/kit by 5 F.
If I don't take another nap sooner...
have a great nights rest!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Today would have been me father's 97th birthday. I think him often although it has been a long time since he died. My Dad was an active model railroader. He did O scale and also large live steam locomotives.
Mr B. LOL. I am sure the NFL planned it's schedule to accommodate train shows. Enjoy retirement.

Sunny and just about freezing here in New England today. It will get brutally cold in a couple of days, particularly further north, so we won't be skiing this week.
OK, now I am officially retired. If I hadn't been, I'd have been back at work today. I'm still dealing with the slow Social Security system which has not yet turned on my Part B Medicare.
I spent the weekend watching football. The schedule for the next 4 weekends is Divisional Playoffs, Conference Playoffs, Springfield Train Show and then the Superbowl. It's nice to see that the NFL schedules its games around the big train show so I don't have to miss any football.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Hertitage Flakes Cereal with skim milk and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee this morning... Oh yes, bring my R&GV RR mug over for me to use. Thanks!
Currently 17°F under partially skies (you can fill in what that means...) with a high of 20°F, maybe sometime this afternoon. Wind from the West at 19mph with gusts up to 26mph. The wood stove will be lit for the day shortly.
I don't even want to list all the Stuff needing to get done the rest of this week around here! Today I get to take Blackie to the Vet to see how his blood sugar is doing. I may be soon learning to give him injections. We will see what the vet says. I have to get a refill of my Diabettes Medicine today. Will do that around lunch time to get me out of the house for a while so I won't be plagued by constant bugging by the cats for food (Blackie is on a fast between breakfast and his 2:45 appt.). After the appointment I may be back over to the Pharmacy to order equipment and stuff for the cat.... Have to get in touch with the guy over in Syracuse to see where we are on several odds and ends for the Meet on Saturday too. That's the very short list, BTW.
Catch you all later!
Good Afternoon!
Fairly quiet in here today!
Zoe, just coffee and a handful of those deliciously looking chocolate chip cookies, please.
Good to see you, Lael - it´s a little bit like Jeffrey coming to see us again.
I tried to overcome my health issue by working on that track plan of mine again. Now all my attempts of coming up with a more compact design failed, which did not really add to me well-being. Today I revisited my "old plan" and changed a few things - the most important to be introducing a double-slip switch and thus adding one more track to the station. That makes a whole lot of a difference! I now like the plan a lot better and will start on the benchwork, time at my friend´s shop permitting.
I tried to put a touch of a 3D effect into the drawing, hope you all like it!
Have a good one!
Good early morning fellow Railfans! Top of the day to you. Flo, my usual fizzbuster in a frozen glass please. And make it fresh, i wanna feel the burn this morning.
Have you folks gotten used to singling out the new title of the diner yet? Still find myself looking for 'Elliot', now and then.
I found this link in todays news....
http://www.engadget.com/2015/01/04/california-starts-building-high-speed-rail/
Its about the fact California is about to break ground on a new HSR. I wish them well. Would be nice to see more things like this take off. I hope I do get to see one in actual service in my lifetime - in this country.
to Newport, im a newbie too. Nice place, you will like it.
Probably nothin on the RR front today. Hopefully I am going to get to work today. Down to 40 now, woulda been great to have another 65 day like yesterday. Was a nice break in the cold. We will see about the work thing.
Until later my friends. Time to go get ready for the day. Flo, I will be back for dinner.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, a cup of decaf would be goods right now....
Galaxy, one of the best ways to find missing tools and such is to go out and buy another one... The "lost" one will reappear just as soon as you get home.
I have spent much of the day worrying.... My sister is leaving for India in 3 days, and had a cat in the cat hospital... If he came home I was worried about what to do if something happened to him while she was away. Well the poor little kitty died this morning at the vets... On Friday he was seeming to be doing better, but yesterday he took a turn for the worse and passed away this morning. My sister is trying to tell herself that at least the little guy had one year in the safety and love of her home. It was little Clim that died. He adopted my sister and Claude the other cat after being a ferral cat in the nieghborhood for a couple years. Claude has been sitting in the window watching for his buddy to come back....... I told my sister I would be sure to spend as much time playing with and giving attention to Claude when I come over to feed him while she is gone. Clim was a sweet little guy!
Got a little bit done on some scenery in the train room today, and practiced my clinic once. Doorbell rang about dinner time and it was my next door nieghbor letting me know that my car keeps flashing its lights and blowing the horn for no particular reason. He figured with my hearing I probably didn't hear it. I wasn't wearing my hearing aids most of the day and he was right. Didn't hear a thing... What happens is that the key fob is on the key ring with about 20 keys in my pocket and every once in a while one of the keys presses on and sets off the location finder... Blows the horn and flashes the lights for me. Fun being deaf, it is...
Hope all of you have a great night.
saronaterry Hi; all! Never got warmer than MINUS 6f and the windchill is around MINUS 30f and will get waaayyyy worse tonight! Terry in NW Wisconsin
Hi; all!
Never got warmer than MINUS 6f and the windchill is around MINUS 30f and will get waaayyyy worse tonight!
Terry in NW Wisconsin
well,
Our weather was warm, but cloudy and now is heavily windy. I think we got to the 54F mark ttoo. I think in afew days we will be lucky to have a high of about 5F.
I did a whole lot of nuttin' today.Felt good?
Went and got a new wrist BP monitior. The cardiologist wants me to keep track for awhile, and Harbor Freight had them on sale for a whole $14.99 {with coupon, $1 more without}.
I also got a Free set of screwdrivers, just the regular kind. It seems when loooking for one we can never find one, so i got an extra 6 pack of 'em.One of each straight and Philllips in 3 different sizes.
Also got another hammer for a whole $3.99. Seems ours is always missing?
There are only 2 of us, and the "borrowers" tend to have everything when we need it.
Or, I can't find what i have. I only have 4 sets of allen wrenches, both metric and english each, and could I find just one set when I need it? no...
Harbor Freight is a place I tend to try to stay away from...SO many tools, so little time, so little money...
so other than the usual chores, I didn't do much. It is good to take a "holiday" for oneself once in awhile.
Tomorow is another day.
HAve a GREAT night sleeping!
Looks like the Packers play Dallas at Lambeau next Sunday. Good. We beat them last time there in a post-season playoff game. That's all for now!

Evenin fellow Railfans! Flo, my usual please with a side of Dbl bacon cheeseburger-plain, el grande fritas, and we will talk dessert later.... if i have room.
In general - well folks it started out to be a hum-drum day. Guess it kinda ended up that way too. You know you have a day like this when you consciencely(sp) elect to clean out and rearrange your kadee's. Yep, i did that today. Still havent finished.
I will have you folks know it was 65 here today. Sun popped in and out. Was a very nice day! The last ten minutes though it has gotten windy to beat all heck. Betcha it gets real cold tonight you wait and see.
Been 7 hours since anyone posted. Kinda quiet in here today. Hope everyone is ok and just taking it easy today. Reckon I will get back to cleaning the place up. Talk to yall in a while.....
Good morning all. It's just above freezing and raining lightly in New England. It's supposed to warm up to near 50F later today, which is when I'll take out the screen from the kitchen door and put in the glass. I'll also shovel a path through the 2 inches of wet snow we got last night, because we won't see the warm side of freezing temperatures for the rest of the week, at least.
As I recall, Jeff's decal technique was not to use tissue paper, which would be difficult to get through a printer. Instead, he printed the images on regular paper and then carefully rubbed the back side with sandpaper to thin the paper down to tissue weight.
Zoe, could I get a refill for my cup of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee? Thank you Ma'am!
Slept in a bit this morning as I didn't shut off the laptop that has the Clinic presentation until 12:30AM last night.... Got up just in time to give Blackie his meds almost on time. I think I have the clinic down to around 40 minutes so that with questions and answers from the membership it should be about 50 minutes.... That is about right for a 45 minute presentation... We are only going to have 2 clinics at the meet but will do a Modelers Showcase (a modelers Show and Tell type thing) and have a short presentation on the Convention coming up.
Current temperature here in the Finger Lakes is 52°F but we are under a High Wind Advisory. Looking at gusts today around 55mph. Tonight the temps will dive to about 22°F so wintertime will be back.
I have all kninds of stuff to keep me busy today! Catch you all later...
Good Morning from Winterpeg,
The windchill here right now is -50F and that is chilly, if not cold. It is sunny though and from inside the house the snow on the trees looks quite, dare I say pretty. I wonder how Lion copes as he likely has similar weather today?
Well not much happening here today, think I might run a train and look at fixing the lights in a few houses that suddenly aren't lighting.
CN Charlie
Morning guys.
Had a real wintery mix yesterday, snow and freezing rain. Its messy out today and calling for a big drop in temperature from 5c down to -14c tomorrow. We got the tree down earlier this morning. No plans for today I might play some strat o matic on the PC or run some trains.
Talk to you guys later on
The LION went to Brooklyn (sort of) and came back with this picture. Him then mounted the picture on the backdrop for the Avenue H station.

Good morning.
Speaking of Jeff and history reminds me of a phone conversation I had with him. I was interested in learning some history regarding Cherokees because we had recently taken two of our granddaughters to the Trail of Tears Memorial Park in Hopkinsville which is not very far from here. Jeff could talk indefinately on that topic. It was interesting to me. ..... I told Jeff about the older of the two girls who felt sadness at the park after reading brief history of the Trail of Tears on signs at the park. She placed a flower at the gate leading to the graves of Cherokees who died during the Trail of Tears relocation of Cherokees. .... I think Jeff could have written a book about that topic.
I did not know the name, Midland Gulf, was a real railroad name, but I see it was long before diesel locomotives. ..... or "Franken-Diesels".
------------
Yesterday, I began cleaning the rails for my streetcar line. I should complete that today. I do it by hand because that is the best way for these tracks. I wonder how I will do it after I finally install the overhad trolley wires which will be in teh way.
Happy Model Railroading.
Morning Railfans! Yeah I know..... what the heck am i doing up at this hour. To tell you the truth, I dunno. Flo, my usual please.
Yesterday and today have been perfect. Cloudy, rainy, quiet.... so youd think id be doing my best Van Winkle impression! I tell ya, been boring as watching paint peel the last few days.
No work. Not even one call! As much as I hate to, I may have to find a real job and give up this working for myself. Something about a steady paycheck seems appealing .
i did manage to get two things somewhat accomplished. 1) i finally broke down and cleaned up my desktop workarea. Not because i had nothing to do really, more like it was i needed to because i couldnt do anything unless i did.
2) put in a few hours on my website. Edited something like a hundred pictures. Added some here, deleted some there. Now I am back to bored again. Id would love to work on the layout but this close after XMas with no work.... $$$ is a bit tight at the moment.
Heck, even the coupler project is at a standstill. And it hasnt cost me one red cent to make two cars so far. All i lack is a few magnetic switches (which i dont have). $$$$! Probably be the only things in the project that will cost something. Not bad if i do say so myself.
OH well, im sure something will turn up. Maybe I will head over to the parentals today and rattle their cages a little bit . Last thing I feel like doing is sitting around all day when theres so much in the hobby i could be doing.
Catch yall later.
howmus Even with all the new faces in here, there is an empty feeling without Jeffrey.........
Even with all the new faces in here, there is an empty feeling without Jeffrey.........
Yes it most definitely is. It was when he "disappeared" and we knew nothing, now it is and we know everything.

Today's Quotable Quotes:
i know what you mean. Reminds me of someone painting their car with house paint and it looked great.
Newport, I used to be amazed at the work Jeffrey did with using tissue paper to patch his locos! Only he could pull that off.... That is why I told Ken he needed to do it tissue paper!
yea i know about the midland gulf it only lasted 3 or 4 years. started around 1887 ended around 1890 not much history about this line in Georgia.
that is what i mean by his limitations on tissue lettering. Jeffrey loved history
Newport .. thanks for history of L&A.
Also, Jeff lettered some of his trains for his freelance railroad called "Midland Gulf". He made paper decals for that. He even painted and lettered his Dodge van for Midland Gulf RR.
