Lael,
I have found only 5 faces, but there may indeed be 6. I assume the 5 I have found stand for the 5 original nations forming the Confederacy. Today there are 6 nations in the Haudenosaunee, so there may be one face I haven't yet found. There is, of course, the man siting by the fire.....
I do know that Eli Thomas puts a great deal of symbolism in his beautiful works! One of these summers I will get to the Pow-wow at Ganondagan and hopefully meet him. Seems like every year there is some other obligation that keeps me from going. I would also like to see my friends whom I haven't seen in about a decade who work there. Tanya, who is a Mohawk person, and her husband Mike who is Northern Paiute, if I recall correctly. He is now considered the best authority on the history of the Seneca around.
Be Blessed!

Sir Madog Good Evening! We had quite a thunderstorm this afternoon, but thankfully it´s over by now. I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to develop a new, much simpler layout idea, only to find out it won´t work. Heck, I am giving up! It´s collecting stamps from now on! My train stuff is already packed up, tomorrow I will take the door and the brackets down. No more playin´ with trains! I can´t say that I am happy about this, but I can´t afford, what I like and don´t like, what I can afford.

Ulrich! Say it isn't so!
Collect only StAMPS with TRAINS on them then!
We cannot sto you, as I started the same with my HO stuff {at least until we have the room for it}.
I know you say Z scale "isn't for you", and your stuff is all tied up in N scale, but maybe a CHange is in order to get what you want, OR change what you want.
Wasn't it you who told me to try dioramas? {nO, I guess that was Garry} Maybe you CAN try a diorama.
I may make a "mini layout " like you did in N scale befere, only I do it in Zscale.
Dunno, I like roundy 'round rounders trains, my self, so a diorama, well that isn't quite what I was looking for...
I think we ALL want more than we get into our space!
Become an "armchair" modeler, then, until you figure it out...

HO and N Scale.
After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Good day again! We talked to my wife's Mom in the hospital this morning. She is feeling much better, and her voice sounds much stronger. And, she seems herself mentally, as well, which is good news for us but perhaps not so for the hospital staff, as she can be cranky and uncooperative when she doesn't get her way. At 94, I'll give her that.
And, the Patriots won yesterday, so I'm a happy football camper this weekend.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I see Galaxy is buying this morning, so just bring me the big breakfast but make the coffee Marakeesh Express Dark Roast for me. Use my R&GV RR mug please.
Currently 22°F outside my door here in the Finger Lakes this morning. The high will be.... Get this!... 33°F! That's above freezing! Yes! Ahem..... I'm hoping the sun will shine enough to clear the Solar Panels on my roof.
Blackie had his first insulin injection this morning, so I am watching him closely today. So far, so good. He hasn't been over pwing my leg asking to food yet. May be that the insulin is allowing him to use the sugar in his blood to advantage. he seems alert and has been moving around. He didn't gert his pill last night as the vet wanted that completely out of his system before starting the insulin. His blood sugar probably was sky high by the time he got his shot. I also have to go to Canandaigua this afternoon to take care of Claude at my sister's house.
Last night I left my "remote control" for my hearing aids on a table at the party for the Ranger. Lucky the guy who is the Properties Chair for camp found it, knew what it was and gave it to the District Executive who lives a block away from me. He has emailed me already this morning and will drop it off sometime this afternoon.
I'm enjoying the posts in here lately.
Hope you all have a great day!
Good morning. So far our Florida trip is very nice. it will be in 70's today

Good Morning!
We had a bad storm last night, but things have calmed down by now. No major damage in my neck of the woods, but lots of damage all over the country!
I am done with my Sunday HD list and waiting for lunch to be ready. Today´s fare will be a salmon cassarole, with salmon, potatoes, onions, carrots, spices, covered with grated cheese - yummy!
I am still having second thoughts about my layout plan. I like it very much, but I am afraid I won´t be able to finish it. It´s going to be quite a drain on the budget - the track I need is another $ 220, including switch motors. I haven´t calculated the items I need for the catenary, but assume that will be another $ 200. Add to that about $ 60 for the lumber I need, $ 20 for the cork roadbed and $ 40 for all the stuff I need for wiring the layout. At the rate I can save up money for it, it´ll take me more than 3 years for the basics, i.e. before I can run trains. That´s quite a long time. I am still looking for something simpler, but equally nice and satisfying to build, but no luck yet. There are a number of nice small N scale track plans in the web, but I canot adapt them to German railroading practices. It´s like squaring the circle...
Have a good one!
Newport,

what am I doing up at this ungodly hour?
I mean I get up EARLY, but not by being awakened by a DC {Darn Cat}!
He is starting to get out of hand, if he is hungry, he wants canned cat food, regardless of whether its 6 AM {breakfast time} or 6PM {dinner time}. Forget that he has a bowl of dry all the time, he wnats canned and will Wake his pop-pop up {i am the easiest to wake. MOH sleeps trhough a lot of his shenanigans}. Or at least I am the one with the big belly to jump on, the one whose head is a prime target for "batting practice", and while he is up at my head, he can claw at the wall, just to make sure I HEARD him.
Then he was off to the BR door, adn clawed at tthat, I got the h2o sprayer and sprayed, but he had already suceeded in waking me.
I shall be up for a while, NO FOOD WILL BE GIVEN. MAYBE he will get the idea that waking of pop-pop does NOT equal food. THEN I go back to bed!
THEN I come do the morning greeting here!
MOH is of the theory that when he asks, I should FEED HIM. I do NOT want him to equate waking pop-pop with FOOD and Getting HIS way! I am not about to be a "Feeding machine" on HIS clockwork. He has to learn....the canned food is SUPPOSED to be a "treat", not normal food intake, that is what the dry is for. That way we can go away a few days, and leave him with a LOT of dry food nda he won't "starve".
GRR...
Well........I finally finished and occupied my new model bench.

Been a very long day...... Just about to head for bed.
Newport, want to tell you a story... I have for many years become a student of Native culture, particularly that of the Haudenosaunee (The people of the Longhouse) in the part of the country where I live. I was blessed to make friends with a family who work at Ganondagan near Victor, NY. The Seneca were the people found here... I am also a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the arrow in the Boy Scouts. In fact the former lodge here was named after "Handsome Lake". With that in mind, my sister has for the past two years given me paintings by Eli Thomas, wolf clan of the Onondaga. This years is a painting called Two Steps Back. It is a painting of a man sitting by a fire in the forest on a rock ledge next to a stream, possibly on a vison quest. Surrounding the man and protecting him is a large wolf. Eli Thomas always has Wolves in his paintings I believe. There are many other wolves in the painting that all seem to be watching on guard over the man. The rock walls of the water falls on the stream are faces of the ancestors..... Every time I walk by the painting and see the scene I think of Running Bear! Still miss him and hope he is well along the path to rest with the ancestors!
Here is a bit of information about the painter.
Take care, all of you!
Evening Dinners!

Sarah?... Oh hey Sarah, I'm surprised you're working tonight at the diner it's your day off. Since I called you could you take my order? In a minute no problem take your time. I could tell it's busy today.
My Conrail fleet has grown a bit since I talked about it. I probably will have an entire fleet done this year. Not sure about locomotives or the layout itself.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Brunhilda? Who cares where she is from as long as she is a soprano! Victor Borga used to describe her as a very large Messy Soprano who usually arrived on stage in a single pile. She also arrived backwards, but nobody noticed the difference!
Ah.... Afternoon folks. Chloe, I could sure use a cup of hot chocolate right now! I have finally arrived home from the meet and am exhausted.... Have a party to go to tonight for the retired Ranger out at Boy Scout Camp. The local paper did a full page story on him and his careers over the years. He was one of the best people I met in Scouting over the years. We will all miss him.
My clinic went very well, and I got compliments from a good many people. Turns out that about half of the folks at the meet know the building I was showing. Particularly the history buffs in the group. One guy knows some people at the museum he is a member of that may know a lot more about the building. He will ask some questions and see what he finds out for me. The other guy presenting a clinic is the NMRA AP Chair for the NER and probably has created some of the finest scenery anywhere. (In one of his clinics he ends with a photo of the prototype scene and also has next to it a photo of the same scene on his layout and leaves you with the question, "Which is which?" About 50% got it wrong....) He was visibly impressed with my work! That is good because he will be one of the people evaluating it for a Merit Award soon...
Time to go have somegthing for a small dinner before heading out to the party...
Later!
'Mornin fellow Railfans! Hope everyone is in tip top form or fashion today. I am in kind of a hurry (runnin late ofcourse) so I dont have time to reply to some of you guys this am. Some of the locus classicus above were good discussion.
Just wanted to stop by and say howdy before i left...... "Howdy!". Hopefully i will get back in time to post a bit tonight, and get a look at this Brunhilda person. Im partial to Flo, we chew the same flavour gum . More -get well soon wishes- to those who need them (see: sick call list by Galaxy above).
You folks have a great day! 27F here and....... bloomin sunny!

Sir Madog Good Morning! NP2626 - Brunhilda? Not really a common name. You´ll find Brunhildas in Scandinavian countries, but not necessarily in Germany. Have a good one!

I never asked where she was from, I thought maybe North Dakota!

Galaxy - all our dishes are served nicely decorated on the plate. Dinner is somewhat of a highlight each day, so we try to "celebrate" it as much as possible.
Sansculotte actually means "without pants". The sansculottes were a group of people during the French Revolution, who came from the lower end of the society, fighting for "Egalite´" and social justice.
... I can only comment on here in NZ but with the increase “political correctness” we seem to loosing the ability to be able to laugh at ourselves, and as a consequence are becoming rather “thin skinned” and too easy to take offence at the slightest perceived/ imagined insult. ... Garry, I have to be really diplomatic on this one (whoever heard of a diplomatic Bear???? ) don’t want to get Cousin Vinnies tire iron wrapped around my noggin, but suffice it to say, another general observation from over the years, is that US citizens tend to be far more patriotic than us.
Political Correctness is a bane over here in the States as well, Often MOH says "I'm tired of PC" and really speaks the mind!
I think that was "diplomatic enough" for Vinnie, after all it was, I think, a compliment to us,not an insult!
You're a good ol'e bear!
Make yours a GREAT day {or should I say Night?}
ULRICH:I do all the cooking. WHy? because after having cooked for years in a 3 star, and a 5 star restaurant{s}, I can whip of "a little of this, a little of that' and turn it into something that MOH will never complain about! I ALWAYS serve it up on a plate "restaurant style" {plated nicely} never "family style" {in either pots/pans on the table or serving bowls!}. Ocassionally I use "heat N Eat' dinners that are fill-ins for "quick meals". but otherwise, the house always smells good when MOH comes home from work, and dinner is waiting!
Well, off to do the laundry...tath never ending chores. {I do the housework too as MOH is out working, and not fair to place all the burdon on one of us.}
Make YOURs a SPECIAL day!
Brunhilda???? I thought it was Hildegard! And they always forget Daisy, I think she is the prettiest![ I'll give you a Daisy a Day"}
Today's word {for YGW-should be easy enough to pronounce!}:
Today's odd words:
Drumble - Moving in a slow or sluggish manner.
Sansculotte - A revolutionary (no matter what the cause) who has extreme views
Phenakism - Deception, Trick, Cheating
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
We are under a storm warning again. It is supposed to get even worse than yesterday. Better to stay put!
Garry - be my guest, just tell us when you will arrive!
I am blessed with a wife who knows how to prepare a gourmet meal out of nothing. Even simple dishes can turn into a feast when cooked with love. We have a proverb that says "Liebe geht durch den Magen", which means, literally translated "love goes through your stomach". No matter how late I came home from work, there was a nice meal waiting for me!
No plans for the day, maybe I just run my trains over the test track a little.
Good evening. We arrived in Orlando okay.
Ulrich. I wish I could try some Petra's cooking
NP2626. Good to see you in the diner
Bear. Texas? I was born there, but I am not bigger and better
NP2626 Brunhilda, I'll have a hot chocolate and a sticky bun, thanks!
Brunhilda, I'll have a hot chocolate and a sticky bun, thanks!
Brunhilda ???? A waitress here ???
Ulrich must have sent one of his cousins over here with the new Diner when it came. Well I must admit she is a very good looking Freuline. Thanks Ulrich, I guess Vinnie was working the girls pretty hard and long hours as well. I think she will be appreciated and will work in fine as long as all the other Diners are happy with her.
I see NP2626 has his eye on her, so that is one satisfied customer, He had better watch out for Vinnie though as he doesn't like his girls getting too friendly with the Patrons.
Johnboy out.....................waiting for your opinion.

We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
It's minus 6, and predicting -12 tonight and with wind it will feel like -27. Pretty typical this time of year, in this neck of the woods. Basement (layout room) is cold, at just 50 degrees. I have a small heater under the bench so it's time for projects on the bench. Haven't run a train since last weekend due to the cold temps. Normally, I bank the house with snow and this help immensely. This year so far there hasn’t been enough to do this, so it’s not very comfortable down stairs!
Such is life!
Afternoon Dinners
Flo, I will have a Double JSTL (That should kill the bug in me) and chaser. Give the Buick guy one as well.
Not sure how this evening will work out, sort of feel like cabosse. May a Beer Buzz will help? Worth Trying.
Train Front Christmas came late this year for me, but it did come. One of the site members sent me a good size box full of Proto 2000 and Walther Rolling Stock kits, a Walthers Grain Bin kit, a unknowen F unit chassie and a A and B unit F's unit with shells. Plus couplers (about 200) and around 400 + trucks for rolling stock.
All of the kits are new in the box. Have no idea what the F units with shells are but they are heavy! I am guessing at this point they are Vanity but could be old Athearn's. I am guessing the engine with out a shell is either Browser or a Proto 1000. I just wish Jeffrey was here, he would know!
All I was hoping for was a DCC plug for a Proto 2000 E-6 (been runing stiffly so I wanted to work on it in DC and not BBQ a decoder) and few Tyco Trucks so I can get the rest of the Old Dutch Hoppers back on the rail.
Ken
That shot should make the Buick Guy feel at home!
