Well, that was a disappointment.

There was a fly-around by some F-15s this morning.  When I first read about it, they mentioned that it was some sort of FAA test.  Today, it was a "training mission."  Anyway, a few of us went up to the top of the parking garage to watch.  They never got close enough for us to even hear them, but we could see them flying around a ways off.

The loudest thing I heard was the FP45s at the commuter rail station.  That's a good "trainspotting" location, I discovered, if you like the trains to all be the same.

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!

November 13th, 2014!

Healing thoughts prayers &

Energies go out

to those in need

Here is your word for the day:

wonted

PRONUNCIATION:
(WON-tid) http://wordsmith.org/words/wonted.mp3

MEANING:
adjective: Usual; accustomed.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Middle English woned, wont (accustomed), past participle of wonen (to be used to, dwell). Ultimately from the Indo-European root wen- (to desire or to strive for), which is also the source of wish, win, Venus, overweening, venerate, venison, and banyan, venial, and ween. Earliest documented use: 1408.

USAGE:
"With wonted grace, Carey concedes that mass hunger is a seemly matter for clerical concern."
Matthew Norman; By George, Dr Carey's Right!; The Independent (London, UK); Feb 26, 2014

Parallel usage:

"He sipped a mint julep while sitting on the veranda in the late afternoon, as he is wont to do in just such situations".-anonymous

 Evening Dinners

Galaxy Does the shaking stop when you take your foot off the gas? Does it go away after say 45 MPH or a little higher? Have you ever had the transmission fluid changed?

There are a few kinds of transmission shimmy. More than likely you lock up conveter is getting gummed up if you have never had the fliud replaced. If it feels like you are driving across the strips on the side of a highway to wake you up, it will be the converter. It is a pretty easy fix. Few more details will help.

The tranmission fluid was changed about 10K miles ago. That was becasue comming off thehiway at hiway speeds, it would "buck" at going slowing speeds...a problem that "softened" whne htey changed the fluid.

~Its a BIT like the rumble strips on the side of the highway, but more like a , well a "shimmy" or "vibration {my word} at around 40MPH. It also does disappear at higher speeds.

~I only drove it home once since I got it back yesterday...they forewarned me,so I knew to look for a shimmy/vibration on the way home.

~I figure if it will do it on a single trip, it will do it on the rest of my trips.

~Their claim was "we fixed the half shaft again, but there is still a transmission shimmy that if you want that  to go away, It is a non-issue and won't hurt it any,, but you will have to have a  transmisssion place  fix it if you don't want it there. We don't do transmissions!" In other words, 'we put it in once, replaced it under warrantee now its your problem......we wash our hands of it...'

~Grr

~reminds me of ol' CN 3254, the Mike at Steamtown...every time they fix one problem, it causes another,so she doesn't go out on many runs any more as she has problems tracking. It is more like "classsic diesel town" right now.I wonder if that and my van will be of the same?

Ray Thank you for your input! Yes When I got home tonight (After I worked out) I went ahead and reinstalled the 1 GB stick of Ram and installed the Kingston 512 Mb stick of ram. Computer is running faster than before, so I am happy. But, the mother board can handle 2 GB of RAM!Hmm So if moving from 1.25 GB to 1.5 GB of RAM helped, well you know what is coming next! Laugh Lets face it, I am a speed junkie! Whistling I wonder how much of a computer XP can handle? I was told at one time Windows 98 could not support over 512 Mb of Ram?

Work Out Nothing to brag about but I am back at it!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be great at the moment!

I'm sitting here waiting for my sister, the world traveler, to call me.  She did send me an email early this evening letting me know she did get her sick tiger cat, Claude to the vets today.  She decided to have him boarded there until Monday.  I think she was wise to do that as if he should have a urinary blockage, there will be someone around to get him help much sooner than if I was to take care of him at her house.  He could die of a urinary blockage in less than 24 hours and he does have "crystals" in his urine.  The other kitty has not been good either, but I think he should be fine until she gets back home.  I will probably not even see him as he is not friendly with anyone except my sister.  I will know if he has eaten and I will clean his litter box, but I hope I don't have to catch him and take him to the Vets.....

Got the wash done today, moved a few more wheelbarrow loads of firewood to the porch, and printed the newsletter from the division that goes to the snail mail people.

Galaxy, personally I have never been wrong.  I thought I was wrong once, but it turned out I was mistaken.

Kev: HmmThank you, would you stand for "transmission vibration"? Is it dangerous to the transmission? will it wear out the transmission quicker {it only has 74K on it} The Kia Sedona is a minivan WITHOUT AWD. Theydont make such an animal in the sedona line, at least not as fafr as I know....only Front Wheel drive.

I tried to search for it as a question as "DOes the 2006 Kia Sedona have a  Viscous coupling unit trnasmission, adn only get info on CARS that are AWD nad HAVE it, no ifno on the Sedona, so I am asuming it does NOT have it.

I could be wrong I have been wrong before and will be wrong again sometime....

Still don't like that shimmy, and don't know if I am ready for {pocket wise} a tranny rebuild?

Have a good nights rest, I HOPE i can sleep tonight....

~MY Kia Sedona is back. ANY OF YOU CAR GUYS ever hear of "transmission shimmy"????? It still vibrates at about 40MPH, and Firestone said its "transmission shimmy, you'd have to take it to a transmission place if it bothers you"! ANd they advertize themselves as "complete auto care"!!! {except transmissions and body work!} Harumph!

  galaxy

Yes I have if the transmision has what is known as a viscous clutch/coupling. Most often used in all-wheel-drive systems in place of a conventional center differential. But I do not know what the Kia has. They can do very strange things.

Here is a link.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscous_coupling_unit

Good to see you too Barry! Smile

V8Vega

Low to mid 70's all week.

My dentures are being repaired and I won't get them back until Friday or maybe Thursday afternoon.

V8,
I hate it when my teeth are "out for repairs" too. Nothing you can do but gum things to death or eat soup. ANd they want to cut dental services for those who publically receive them..can't say more or it would be political....Whistling I am NOT responsible for my teeth going bad, the Hillbilly roots {pronounce "ruts"} and the meds I take to relieve other things is whats taking the toll on my natural teeth. No one on the hillbilly side had any teeth much left after 25. I will sooner or later have to pay up for part of my new partial or full upper plate.

~The new mattress is here. Soft as a cloud but firm enough to support..now it has a twenty year warrantee, lets see how long it lasts, or how long tghe company {simmons} lasts!

~Warm enough in here to turn on the A/cs and for them to blow cold. SO much for "raging chilly temps"...but that will come in due time I guess.Soon enough we will be dripping the faucets.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Organic Granola, a banana, and lots of Marrakesh Express dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.  Oh, put Barry's tab on my account, please.

Cool and changeable today.  Right now the sun is shining, now it's not, Oooo now it's shining, opps... now it's not...  Didn't get to post last night.  My sister called to tell me her 20lb, little sweety of a cat, is again showing signs of urinary distress, and she leaves for Soveriegn Nation of South Carolina (it's her fall trip to a "Foreign Country").  Guess who gets to deal with both of her cats, both of which are not very healthy at the moment.  I told her to call her Vet this morning and get Claude seen today!!!  There is slim to no chance I would be able to catch and get Claude into the cat carrier (and in the words of Jeff, Slim just left the room!)  The other cat, Clim, is a feral cat that adopted my sister as his human.  He is usually not even seen when I am there to feed them and clean the litter boxes.  May be a long week....  I'm hoping she gets Claude to the Vets and they decide for him to stay there for treatment for a few days.  I'll be glad to go get him and bring him home for her.

Current temperature here in the Finger Lakes Region is 44°F with a 24mph wind out of the West.  Tonights low will be 31°F

I plan to spend time today finishing the wash, stacking firewood, and doing some odds and ends in the train room.

Ken, what Jeffrey said on the ram.  On some computers, Like my iMac they require at least 2 sticks of Ram that are identical including the size of the stick.  Most do just fine with any amount of Ram but still have to be the same type and speed of Ram to play nice.  My iMac will take up to 8 Gigs of 1333 MHz DDR3 memory.  Mine came with 4 Gigs installed, Two 2 Gig sticks in slots 1 and 2.  They would not work if they were put into slots 1 and 3 however.  I could add two more sticks of memory that could be any amount of memory as long as those two sticks are the same amount of ram and are the same speed and type.  They don't have to be 2 gig sticks.  Don't want to confuse you, so yes any sticks can be added to your computer as long as they run at the same speed (MHz) and are the same configuration (DDR3).  Good luck.  If you have any problems, just remove the added sticks and it should correct it.

Catch you all later!

Ken: in spite of the amount of RAM it's not too much. The computer will only use the amount it's made for. "Matched sets" means same type, not same size. If one is a DDR3 the other must also be a DDR3. The size isn't a problem as long as they are compatible. Even with one gig chip they work because the computer has all the memory it needs.

If I am reading this right Jeffery it is not the amount of RAM I need to match, but the type and MHZ the RAM works at correct? In that case, if I replaces the 256Mb RAM with the new 512Mb RAM and install the 1 GB RAM it will be a tad faster than when it had the 1 Gig and 256 Ram, correct? All the sticks are the same speed and same style.

Had a lot of problems with it this morning when I first started it up. AVG was trying to up date and locked up the computer.

 Thanks Ken

KRM

Not a problem Garry, I saw a post from V8 Vega on CTT that Barry was back and he has always been active on that one and another 3 rail forum I visit so I was excited to know he is doing better.

3 rails or 2 don't matter to me. I just run what I brung. Wink I was raised on the old Lionel and they were on the shelf and boxed up for 30+ years. My bet is if Dad was into 2 rails I would be running them. Smile The fun of the trains remains the same.

Take care.

Nice to see you around kev!!!

Good morning from London, ON!!

Went to the diner down our street a ways and met up with the morning crew then came back home...nothing planned for today except rest....Whistling

Jeffrey: sounds fishy to me! Probably a fish tale behind it there...Yesterday's leftover catch is NOT like yesterday's bread! Yesterdays bread is often good for other uses even if only for bread pudding, but the fish! UGH!

~Congrats on the TV, I'd go nuts {already am} without one, OUR tv is on as much as are awake...even if not really glued to it watching it! It helps the "empty house' feeling go away. Here they even have mini TVs in the ER rooms at the hospital!

~Gee, TODD of TODDLAND of which he is KING hasn't been in often, either! He used to post at least once a day.Wonder what's up with him? trouble in TODDLAND?

~Ray:I am going to need soon a new upper partial as this one is short a few teeth that have had to come out. It is an expensive proposition for our finaances right now. The anatamy of my mouth has changed, and with only 4 teeth up there, I am thinking of having all pulled and have a full denture made to fit my small mouth. Not an easy propositon as I cannot stnd to have teeth beyond the fiost molar, it gags me.

~Well, COLD {burr} is on its way to most of us in varying degrees! I hope someone can turn on the heat at Jeffrey's so it doens't FREEZE teh pipes! We will soon be dripping the faucets too.

~we were supposed to "button up" the trailer yesterday, but MOH "didn't feel like it". Guess who will be ther first to complain about the cold? I have some layers of insulation to help.... So this weekend in the cold we hAVE to do it. i doubt verymuch we will get any much of a 60s F degree days anymore! would be nice but then the people for and against the :global warming issue would have a filed day again!

~ Make it a great day~

{pokes head in door...no one in here in 11 hours?}

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!

November 12th, 2014!

healing thoughts, prayers

and Energies where needed!

~well,

I am tied to home for two reasons:

~the kia is back in the shop. I felt vibration from 20-25 MOH to about 50MOH on acceleration Took them 4 hours yesterday to figure out NOTHING {that is that they couldn't find cause}, but that they would replace it under warrantee. SO whole new half shaft to install today.should be done later, whne NOH is free betwixt clients.

~The mattress is being deliverd today too, so I am tied to home plate... cannot wait!

~I can see an IMMENSE problem with the new area rug...it will show dirt like no tomorrow! It has browns, light and dark, and a marroon swath, and a silver swath, but the browns are wrong color to "blend in dirt" I will have to either get used to it showing dirt, OR start vacuuming every morning! Twice a week won't be enough.... The old rug was white oriental, so the orange hair/fuzz from the cat didn't show right away, now it does.

~we have a get together to finish off our wills...Sunday next. We have limited time to get presents for a 5 yr/old and a newborn large baby.SHOULD we have any estate worth talking about, it wil go to our godchildren or Grand nephews.

~what else? not much to tell....

~well, that will comprise my day

~Haven't seen ulrich in? Hope he is not in the hospital again!

~I have teh hiccups, any one know a sure fire way to get rid of them? they tend to come in threes for me when I get them...This is the first batch...nad they tend to last a long time for me...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

THANK YOU AGAIN TO

THOSE WHO SERVE{D}

Had baked fish for dinner. Tasted like flounder that had floundered! All L can say is breakfast better be fantastic! Got an appointment with my primary doctor in Leesville tomorrow morning. Appt time is 9:45. My physical therapist is shocked at how agile and able I am. Today we were standing i the parallel bars and she wanted to see if I could stand without the bars. So I took my right hand off the the bar and put it on her left shoulder then took my left hand off the other bar and put it on her right shoulder. She commented that I was doing extremely well. I told her you ain't seen anything yet and caught her in an embrace. She was surprised to say the least! Found a TV in my room today. Maintenance man brought it it. It's an older Sharp CRT model. However it isn't the one I'll be watching. There's a shipment of new 32" flat-screens coming in and he's going to change it out for one of them.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Well Vererans Day was not what I was hopen for. Whistling Diet is not going well so what the heck. I was going to go to Golden Corral and have a good meal! Hum, seems they are not given Vet's free meals today, and for some reason moved to this coming Monday? Bang Head I will be working so no free chow for me!

Far as the Diet and I am going to give it another 2 weeks. I will drop the carb intake to 30 grams. If I don't lose some weight, screw! Eat well and enjoy. Tonight I am BBQing and will do it the old way with all the fixens I enjoy!

Jeffery and others, Computer Question. I opened up the computer to replaces what I thought would be a 128 Mb Ram and replaces it with a 512 Mb of ram. I was stunned when I saw it had 2 stick of ram. More shocked when I saw what they where! Hmm

Is this not a big No No? One stick was a 256 Mb of ram and the other was a 1 GB stick of ram? Mother board will handle 2 GB of ram but it owners manuel states "It must be match sets" other wise the computer will run slower. It seems to be running fine right now, maybe a tad better. So was it a big No No running mismatched Ram?

I am planing to install just the one GB of Ram and see how it runs. Tonight I am just happy I got on line. Don't want to push my luck! Whistling

 BBQ is done! Dinner

 See you later, Ken

WEll,

Just came from the surgeon's office. I will have shoulder surgery next month. I think I 'bad lucked" my self in to this one as I mentioned about 4 months ago that it had "been a while since I had something operated on or "'ectomied'"...

He will do three things while in there:

~Rt shoulder arthroscopy

~partial acromiectomy {?}

~distal clavicle excision

Basically he's going to shave down one bone, cut part of another out and do some cleaning up in there...won't stop the arthritis, but will ease the impingement of the shoulder.

~Just think, in about 6 months I can go through all of this with the left shoulder!

~he asked how high I could go, I showed him and got up grabbed my wrist and yanked higher, I saw stars! He alomst nearly got a kick in the seat by MOH, and I almost slapped him, couldn't get my left hand over to him quick enough!

~He then excused himself to look at the MRI results, adn came back spitting out his surgical knowledge of what to do, and showed me on a diagram cutaway of the shoulder. I told him to write down for me what he will do...as i said to the receptionist, I will go home and look at Youtube to see if I can see it performed. SHe said "or google it you cna find most anything on google these days". That too.

~~took the kia in to be checked since the replaced the half shaft it vibrates on exceleration and sometimes bucks too, shouldn't happen in my estimation nto for a brand new replacvement, should be smooth as glass...but what do I know?

~~Got the new rug, MOh is happy. This one:

http://www.raymourflanigan.com/bolero-area-rug-170002661.aspx

So now I won't have to hear about it over and over. MOH was looking at new recliners. I liked the rocker/recliner ones, a smaller size as I can at least get out of it once in it. I can't the current one, I cant reach the handle adn don't have the strength to get it forward enough to get out of it. I siad we'd "sleep ion it" another $750 down if we buy it. He gave us a break since we just spent on the mattres and rug-we neede teh mattress springs poking through, the rug, well, lets just say was nice price! I said after Xmas they will have Presidents day sale, maybe, if santa is good to us, maybe then. The current one has broken springs, and is micro-swede and it gets dirty in the "nap" I guess you'd call it...from the cat on it. I didn't make arm covers soon enough. A towel on the back helps keep it clean when he lays up there, but not the arms when he is there.

well, I'd best try and get some more vacuuming done...if myu shoulder will let me now that the Dr yanked hard on it....GRR...

Physical therapy this morning. I had to leave the class to take care of some urgent personal business. When I returned the instructor asked me what happened. I hit her with one Johnny Carson's old jokes. "This just in... A Delta flight in trouble made an emergency landing at Dallas\FortWorth. The pilot and crew emmerged unharmed. The planes cargo, a load of live chickens, wasn't as fortunate. KFC has received a call from DFW declaring that there's a load of fried, crispy and extra crispy chicken ready for pick-up. The only stipulation is there be no droppings or napkins left behind.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a cup of dark roast please...  Just got home from the dentist...  Had some major work done there.  All I will say is that the modeling fund is depleted for several months.  I have a triple crown the spans a missing tooth.  It was put in close to decade ago and I now had cavities in both teeth that support the crown.  He had to remove the old one and then take off both remaining teeth below the gum line and make the impressions for the new crown(s).  He says I will have some very sore gums for a couple days...  Wonderful!  Good news is that the new permanent crown should arrive before Thanksgiving so I should be able to enjoy the day with a brand new crown in place.

Sun is out and shining here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS.  Currently 61° with a high very soon of 62°F.

Catch you all later!

CAn anyone tell the Year and Make?

Fellow diners .. thought I'd drop in on this chilly morning and read up on whats happening.

Jeff.. very nice to see you moving along.

Ulrich.. I feel ya .. I hate being sick.. worst of all.. trying to get some rest.  I've resided myself to winter slumber.. come 8 PM .. I'm ready for bed.  Not that I get a good nights sleep, but .. so when I get up.. around 3 AM.. I start to model.

Here's some of the latest.  Some of these kits I really didn't like they way the instructions.. or parts were.  So I changed them.  One of the kits parts and pieces were so ugly I decided to give my own 'scratch building' a try.  I can't say I've ever done this on this scale.  It was actually fun.  OK.. enjoy the pics.. and music.

Happy Veterans' Day, everyone.

In particular, to those who served, thanks.

Jeffrey: sounds close! Good thing you were in a hospital!

I am deathly allergic to Sulfa drugs.Litterally, I was clinically dead for 6.5 minutes after a reaction to sulfa antibiotics!

Only I was at work, where the manager and assistant manager knew I was being treated for walking pneumonia. The manager asked early in my shift how I felt, and I told him I felt "wierd" and that "my skin was crawling" though I had not yet borken out. I was wet-vacing the floor, and the ASsistant manger saw me collapse. Just like that, one minute standing there, the next *pooF* somone turned out the lights! He phoned the 911 immediately as he was by the phone when I collapsed and he saw me do it, and they {the EMTs}started a timer on how long I had been down at the point of the call, and until I was "revived"...6.5 minutes...

They asked me a dozen and a half questions and all I wanted to do was "rest', I answered only a third of the simple questions {who is president? I said Carter...and this was in the 90s}{whats your middle name{ could not remember it} etc.

Had I NOT been at work with supervision adn been home alone instead...I would NOT be here today!

So, now I don't go anywhere near sulfa...the CVS pharmacy computer stopped a dispensing of a med that had a sulf component to it, and the pharm tech on duty {also a pharmacist when the deal is roatated} asked why/how i reacted to sulfa..I said I died on sulf..she "not so good" and took it away from me as the cashier said it is ready, but flagged, WHy?!

I can, however, eat bananas and cherries...they are good, sorry you can't even touch them!
