HO and N Scale.
After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Evening guys
Been trouble shooting my computer as of later. just something so I could play some games with my brother.
Galaxy, Honestly, i've been practically laid off (1 day a week) for about a month and a half. I guess the computer thing may do it as I've been hounding some sort of a job with very little luck. Unusual activity would be doing a lot of the work under the clubs modular layout in the past week and a half. The thing is it's only happened a couple of times in the last few days, non consecutive; and it shows up several days later than the aforementioned "unusual activity". My matress isn't, it's a water bed, but it's at least 20 years old (parent's hand-me-downs). The box springs and frame are about 7 years old. It didn't hurt this morning, but it did Thursday and Friday morning for about half an hour.
Mr. B, Still a pretty good game nonetheless. I'm probably downing a bottle of water ever 45-60 minutes or so. Some of my meds make me really thirsty.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Vincent:
How do you do your job or school work? are you lifting heavy stuff? Are you standing a lot? Are you hunched over a computer all day?
ALso, how old is your mattress? It Could be the thing causing problems for you, too. we just replaced our 10 yr/old mattress that was like lying on waves of frozen peas....
Just some thoughts

Good Evening,
It is a balmy -8F right now with a windchill of -33. Oh the joy of a Winterpeg winter. I just got back in the house from taking the dog out in the back yard and it is that cold but the stars are shining.
I ran a test of the N scale after all the ballasting and found a few spots that needed some additional rail cleaning and removal of excess ballast. With N those little grains can get into the inside of the rail and hit the wheel flanges. Perhaps I should have used Kato track but too late now. It seems to be running ok but I am still finding a few grains of ballast I missed now that I am looking at the rail with a flashlight. When finally done I think I'll put the N scale aside for a while. HO is far more forgiving.
Not much happening here today. My wife hurt her back taking an apple crisp out of the oven. She has back issues so even ordinary movements can sometimes cause problems. Hopefully it heals up fairly quickly.
Mr. B, how do you like those Easy DCC throttles? They look good in the photos.
Keep warm,
CN Charlie
Hello Everybody! I am back home now from my Holiday trip and hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! I myself did indeed. Got to see family, eat good food, but did not get the opportunity to do any railfanning. I know..... BUMMER, right?
I see I have a couple pages to read up on. Miss anything else good whilest i was gone? And tommarow is the first o' the last month. So i spose the diner is gonna rotate once to the left at midnight...
Or is it one step forward, two spaces back, then hang a right? Flo, my usual please. And a round of the good stuff for those sitting around the fire.
Now where did i put my reading glasses????
Douglas!
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf please.....
Been a busy day for me here in the Finger Lakes. Went to church this morning and it turns out I wasn't needed for ushering. I did sit with the family. The girls are old enough now to sit with the family through the entire service. Came home and spent some time balasting more track ikn the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western HO Model Railroad. Moved about 5 wheelbarrow loads of firewood to the back porch from the side street driveway. Neighbor across the street was just going out for a walk so he decided to help me stack wood instead. Dinner was a nice speghetti dinner at my son's house. Then we all watched a cartoon movie called "Brave" or something like that. Kinda of sappy, but interesting.....
I see all the dishes are packed and the Staff are putting their coats on. And.... Here comes an RS3m to make the move.
See you all next month!
PackerAnyone have any idea why my lower back would hurt badly when I wake up, but would be fine after about 30 minutes, but then I'd fall asleep later? It's been off and on the past few days.
Well, congratulations, your team beat mine fair and square. I thought we looked flat from the beginning.
As for the back, are you getting enough water? I've sometimes had that kind of problem when I get dehydrated and then constipated. Add water, shake vigorously and my back was fine.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Flo, please and a 2 pound hammer!
Some Times I wish I Never Went DCC and this is one of them! Layout was running just fine, excpet the my B&O SD 7 and 8 needed there where to be cleaned. Unpluged my DT400 from my PR3 (I run Digitrax) and headed to the layout. Plugged it but could not get the SD 7 and 8 to move? Tried another engine, nothing. OK, DT 400 has been a pain before, so I unpluged it and try using JMRI, still nothing? I have power to the layout, sound decoders are running, but none of the engines will move?

Getting ready for the "super bowl preview" game to be on the TV.
Past 2 days have been kind of busy. Friday my father and I were supposed to go racing, but he had a "expensive-sounding" rub whenever he hit a bump; even after sticking as much of the stuff (racing tires, jacks, tools, cooler, etc) in my car as possible. Looks like his car's driveshaft was rubbing on the E-brake cables. Chaning the rear springs from cut-down 4-cylinder springs to normal length convertible springs seems to have helped. After the misadventure I took a nap. Woke up had dinner, then went to the model train display.
Saturday I went to the train club, ate, took a nap, mowed the lawn, then went to the train display again. The tiny LEDs I used for the strobes on my 2 F40PHs seem to work really well.
Anyone have any idea why my lower back would hurt badly when I wake up, but would be fine after about 30 minutes, but then I'd fall asleep later? It's been off and on the past few days.
Jimmy, I generally like Katos, but it seems as of late the durability of their motors has dropped significantly. I have 2 F40PHs, 2 C425s, and a bunch of stewart/kato F-units. One of the F40PHs blew it's motor after less than a year. The C425s were actually in a house fire before I bought them. They actually ran really good after I cleaned them. The F-units seem to all be fine. Maybe I got a dud, but I'm not the only person I know who has had this issue.
It looks like the Diner staff is packing up for the big move tonight. Wonder where we'll find it tomorrow?
I've got the next (final?) section of benchwork back down in the garage, stained and with the first coat of polyurethane applied. By great good fortune, it's about 50 degrees out, so the garage door is open and the smell is vanishing into the atmosphere of Massaschusetts. I'll apply one more coat later today, and then tomorrow when my "Mondays-remaining-until-retirement" counter ticks down to 3, I'll bring it in and attach it to the layout.
I don't have a control bus running to Phase 3 of the layout, because I didn't want to run another wire across the aisle. So, it was time to go wireless. I've got my new CVP system connected, and as soon as I did that I picked up the throttle and couldn't address a locomotive. READ THE FINE MANUAL. Yeah. Once I figured out the right buttons to push, I was running a train within a minute.
Daughter Annie is supposed to be driving down from Maine today. She said she was going to try to get started in the morning, but she'd be here by now if she had. Oh, well. She's a late sleeper when she gets the chance. Hey, if she'd been on time, the benchwork would be bare wood and the throttles would still be sitting on the coffee table!
Take care, all, and I'll see you next month.
Morning guys

Mornin folks,, an irish coffee Janie…. Kinda nice out at 54,sunny, with a S wind, but becoming cloudy later, with 40% chance rain, changing to sn;w over night.
Seen more trains than I figured there be over the weekend, normal container, PRB coal drags and mixed freight. CSX dropped off bout 80 empty hoppers over at Little Johns and seen they’d also dropped empties over at elevator in Casey. Power there was CSX, with a faded red CP inbetween [didn’t have camera]
Forgots,,, G-Grand daughters last Wed and they luved it.. Their daddy’s mom took’em. She has cancer and they’ve given her 2-3 months left.
Trains an F-ball the plan today, takin a day off from chores. Thoughts for all in need n hope ya’ll has a gooden
Morning all. Hope everyone is having a good day or will
First off: I gotta work today, guess that's the price for having Thursday off huh? This will be fun, considering I must have slept on my shoulder wrong, an now its screaming.
Second: I may be switching to direct TV, since xfinity is getting too expensive for barely anything. Almost 160 dollars a month for the package above basic ( no movie channels, only on demand, etc).
Third: The club I belong to had their open house start yesterday, and we really did have some "opening weekend bugs" show up. One member's loco needs to be reprogrammed, we're still having stopping issues entering and exiting the helix, my T1 somehow managed to find every bad piece of track/switch and derail the trailing truck, etc. But after we took care of it, the layout ran smoothly.
I also love my Kato Sd40-2, I barely have to touch the speed dial for it to move (scale 5mph without stalling), and it climbs 5% grades.
We also gave out applications to two college age guys to join the club. Overall, it was a good Saturday opening open house. One today( I gotta work) and then through saturday. I'll try to take/post some photos next week. Have a great final day of November yinz all.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
The month is over, and soon, too, will be the whole of 2014! Where does the time go?
ALERT!
SO: If I am not on,[color] It is because the computer is broked...Not that I have disappeared...Some here will rejoice if I can't get on! ~ MAy have to pony up the money for a new one, a laptop this time. One ot "supplement" the desktop I am on now. With all the deals going on today, I should be able to get one fairly cheap. I hope. [color=green]HEALING thoughts and Healing Energies go out

Janie, could I get a refill on the decaf please?
Actually got some things done today.... My kitties old litter box is over 14 years old and was in pretty bad shape so I decided I would get a new and larger one for them. Manét is so big he sometimes, ah, misses and ends up with Stuff outside the box making a nice mess for me to clean up.... The new one came by Fed Ex yesterday. So, I set up the replacement and took the old one out to the back portch. Manét spent some time looking for the old box....... I think they have both used the new one so they should be all set!
Got almost all the white icy stuff off the Solar Panels on the roof. Made .8 kWh today.... Whoopie! Suposed to get into the 40's tomorrow so the rest of the stuff should melt in hopes that the sun will decide to come out.... Forecast is for clouds.
Did get down to the layout for a while and got the newly placed details and the guardrail painted. Also glued down the ballast I out in place yesterday. Some photos of the bridge are in WPF.
Catch you all tomorrow!
Flo, Beer Please
Work, well this is not the season to buy Mattress! Boy it was slow.
V8 Vega your Dell Computer is only 8 1/2 years old? What model number is it? When it is time to do something with it keep me in mind. Mine is 12 years old.
Speaking of Computers where did Douglas go?
Train Front Hum, seems the PK 1000 Monon F3B unit does not have a cracked gear. In fact other than the fact it ate a decoder there seems to be nothing wrong? Open the front truck pulled the wheel sets and all seemed fine. Added a little more Lithium Grease and gave it a test run. At 1/2 throttle free wheeling it pulled only .17 Amps. Stalled at WOT at .55 Amps? Sure seems like none decoder eating numbers. Will test run some more before I install a decoder.
Out of things to talk about, so later, Ken
MisterBeasley The remains of the turkey carcass were boiled to broth overnight, and I'm draining the solids in the sink while I type this. The broth will become a Thai Curry Soup at a later date. The broth is usually Penny's domain, but in her absence I'm taking care of it. It's a simple procedure and you can't buy broth like that in a can. If anyone still has the carcass sitting in the fridge while you pick the last pieces of meat off of it, try making a broth.

Mr. B.: I use ALL parts of the turkey to the bitter end of its demise:
I use the gibblets in the stuffing and gravy {slow boil them aong with the tips of the wings, the tail, the neck for about 4 hours, then chop, divide}. The 'broth' from the gibblets, used to make the gravy 1/2 and 1/2 with the 'broth' from the carrots/onions/celery with 3 bay leaves I slow boil off too two days earlier. the 1/2 and 1/2 mix goes one half to the stuffing mix, one half to the gravy {does that make sense?}
Then I whittle every last piece of turkey meat after the last of the sandwiches {whole meat} and the "turkey salad" meat {and diced onions, celery} sandwiches have been made and hot meals have been made {more on that later}, down to the bones, and boil them off too for more gravy fodder to make the last hot meal of diced/minced/chunks of turkey pried off the bones, add in the last of the stuffing{I make tons}, the last of the original gravy, the last of the gravy broth {if any} of original left over, and make a "ghoulish goulosh" with it over noodles{this is the "more later"}. Yum! MOH's favorite!
By the time I throw away the bones, they weigh about a whole 1/4- 1/2 pund out of a 15 turkey, IF that! i'd say I do pretty well to work the last "stuffing" out of the bird!
~attending to the chores that piled up while I was either focused on teh bird, or doing not much but resting my back.
~MOH is decorating a chocko-hazelnut cream cheese cake for desert tomorrow night as we are having dinner as guests with our good friends {like family} so to speak..as we have adopted them, and they us! Then MOh is off for the night client tonight for work.
~ I will humble along to the chores...including FINDING 1/2 the train layout....It was piled with certain types of presents....

Good morning all! Well, nothing went according to plan, but everything was fine anyway. The package I found on the doorstep Thursday morning was not my CVP throttles after all, but rather a wetsuit for Annie, who does triathlons on Maine, where they are sometimes not just a good idea, but mandatory equipment because the water is so cold. And after on-again, off-again because of the weather, she stayed in Maine and had Thanksgiving with her boyfriend's family, and she will be here for a couple of days tomorrow. Meanwhile, the throttles showed up yesterday.
The benchwork section got built and assembled yesterday. It took about 3 hours. I've got my 1/4 inch drill for drilling holes and my cordless for driving screws, and this time I pulled out the 3/8 inch drill and put the countersink bit into that, so I didn't have to swap bits, speeding up the work. I've found that I enjoyed using a hand saw more than a power saw to cut the lumber. I brought it up to the trainroom and fitted it in place. Today or tomorrow, I'll take it back to the garage for sanding, staining and polyurethane.
Good morning ....
Galaxy: I suppose if CP sells the D&H, that will be the end of "Holiday Trains" on the D&H.
I recall taking my kids to the annual GTW Santa Claus train. It was a very nice thing done by the railroad, but GTW no longer does that. In 1975 and 1976, they used the GTW bicentenial locomotive on the Santa Clause train.

There was a young man so benightedHe never knew when he was slighted; He would go to a partyAnd eat just as hearty,As if he'd been really invited.
A canner, exceedingly canny,One morning remarked to his granny,"A canner can canAnything that he can;But a canner can't can a can, can he?"
RT ... Good to see you in the Diner. Feel free to visit more often. ... Jeff is still in the rehab hospital where he does not have internet right now. He also has no room phone. There is more information in a post here a few days ago. Also, the info was posted in modelrailroadforums coffee shop in recent days.
Also, RT: ... I hope you had a good thanksgiving.
JohnBoy .... Good to hear the doctors have a way to correct your situation. Visit the Diner when you can.
Gary BN .... Good idea for you to work with model trains. My experience is model railroading is a great way to take sanity breaks. Life has its ups and downs, and it is good to smooth the downs with this hobby.
Ulrich ... I hope your breathing issues improve.

Afternoon Dinners
Just got done with the last of Thanks Giving Dishes. Seems my wife is afraind of drity dishes. It takes a act of congress to get her to go near them.
It was Sparkie and I day home alone today. Sue was out shopping and Sparkie and I where watching NCIS New Orleans having a good time. Well it was enjoying all the petting. Then the phone rang? It was Dave from work, seems he forgot his store Key? So off I go to let him into the store. Not a total waste of time, he gave me $20.00 for letting him in.
Train Front Stopped by K-10 Model Trains and bought a few things. Bought a N Scale DN-163 decoder for the N&W GP 20 for $27.95. Hopes this will take care of the problem.
On the PK 1000 Monon F3B I think I know what caused the odd amps numbers. It will go from .33 amps to .77 amps and back. Last night I felt a thumping coming from the front turck. I am hoping a new center gear will get the B unit back on the rails.
Boy, Ho Trains have really gone up! I sure glad I got into the hobby when I did. Most of my rolling stock is BB Athearn, I hate to guess what I would have spent at todays prices. I guess what really shocked me today was whe I saw used Rolling Stock for $17.95 at K-10. Yes, I know that is cheaper than new, but still some what shocking.
Tips on fixing a brokn neck? I need to replaces the mounting point of a Walthers Box Car. It has been crushed (stupid fingers) when installing the mounting screw.
