Morning guys,
A cool fall morning out today. They are calling for rain later on tonight but at the moment its sunny out. I work a short shift today 12-7 so hopefully it goes fast. I might get a couple games of football and hockey in on the playstation before I leave, lol
Jeff: Sorry to hear your nephew is treating you like that, sounds like he is very inmature.
I should go grab some breakfast now and want to go outside to have a look at the flowers. I think they will have to be pulled up as they are starting to die off with the lack of sun
talk to you guys tonight
Have a great day
Monday. At least the Patriots won yesterday, and in the dominant manner with which they should dispatch lesser teams. I sat in front of the TV and finished the assembly of the bridge superstructure that will span the gap to the new layout section. Now I can work on the scenery and start fastening down the trackwork.
I checked the temperature before heading out this morning - 38 degrees F. It was in the 80s last weekend. Good old New England weather. We got all the car swapping done over the weekend, so I'm back in my Jetta and daughter Annie is back in her Corolla. Now it's time to get my car inspected. It's only a year old, so it should be just a formality and a waste of time and money.

Good Morning Y'all. I haven't been in here for quite a long while. Heck, I'm not sure if I lived in Tennessee or Pennsylvania the last time I was in here. Now in BFE Nevada.
I have been up since 2:30 am western time. It is too hot and humid to sleep. Looks like I will be kicking on the swamp cooler and taking a nap after work today. Supposed to get up in the 90's again. I CAN NOT WAIT for winter!!!!
I was out in the storage shed going through some totes of stuff and found a stack of MRR that I forgot about. So I am reading through them again. Also tearing apart some old module benchwork I started years ago to build at least one decent module to set up in the computer / guinea pig's room.
Hope you all have a great day. Ugh, mine is going to be a long one!

Went out and checked the truck. Didn't raise the hood. Just checked that it would start. It did. Appears the guy is smarter than he acts. I'll be keeping my movements to a minimum. Every step out there and back hurt really bad.

'Morning everyone! I'll have a cuppa coffee, and biscuits and gravy.
Glad to see you all had decent weekends. Mine was crazy busy - I didn't even get a chance to drop into the diner.
Saturday was the openhouse at the roundhouse I volunteer at. While it's generally open to the public "whenever", the open-houses are actually what draw in crowds - think there were about 200 people there. Not a bad turnout when you consider the morning was a rainy mess, and the NKP 765 was in town.
Spent the entire day doing brakeman / conductor duties for the short run we were giving people down the yard lead (total out & back was about 1800 feet or so). Brakeman duties are bad enough with freight cars -- having people on board is a good way to increase the "panic" levels to 11 ... especially when they do dumb stuff, like trying to get under the cars for a picture of the frame / brake rigging / etc. Thankfully, we didn't have any of that.
Sunday was out and running errands to get some of the honey-do list done, and then went over to my parents to watch the game. Dunno how we did it, but we ended up winning the game (first W on the home opener in 10 years, and only the 2nd since the field opened in 1999).

Good morning. It's 66° with 100% humidity. The high will be 88°. It'll be cloudy with a slight chance of rain. with Not feeling good this morning. My nephew got me REALLY worked up yesterday and I got no sleep whatsoever. I've had a headache all night and I've got a throbbing ache on my right side just under the ribs. No plans for today other than getting my dressing changed. Yesterday I reported that my nephew took the coil wire off the truck and pocketed it. He only put it back because my father made him do it. Before I do anything else this morning I'm going to have a look under the hood. If the coil wire ISN'T there he's in real trouble. That would indicate he sneaked over during the night and removed it. That's trespass and theft!
galaxyJeffrey: two and a half? sounds more like going on two. He's just "fixing" your van now I bet so you will keep your hands off the truck! SO he thinks!
WEll, I think today I call the plumber. The kitchen drain again is drianing slowly so needs to be roto-rutered again. There is one {expensive} plumb/heat company advertising will do it for $129. They did it before nad really wanted to replace the whole pipe for $1600. Thtas right, $1600.00. I siad no thanks, the new water heater comes first, they offered that at $1300. We got ti done from Lowes for $650., half the price INSTALLED.
I will SEE if they still do the $129 special and how much extra for a furnace servicing? while he is here, might as well get boht done, unless they only send a licensed plumber out for the clean and scrape routine. It DOSE drain better this morning, but I haven't yet filled the sink with dirty dish washing water. Yet.
Chilly in here, only got down to 66 though, set the furnace to come on at 63. That is our usual winter temp to run it at whne it is really cold. This time of year, though, we may run it at 66-67 early, then the A/c later then the heat again to take the chill off the house. 65 without heat running is a bit chilly-feeling.
well that is about it for here, for now.
Jeffrey: two and a half? sounds more like going on two. He's just "fixing" your van now I bet so you will keep your hands off the truck! SO he thinks!
well, better get the rest of the day started.
Have a great one!

We had a very busy day out at the museum today. The first 5 or 6 trips were packed. Over 50 people each time. They had a Fire Engine show up at the Transportation Museum and that brought in a lot of people. It was also chilly out there all day. Temperature got all the way up to 60°F here. It was nice and sunny for most of the day, and if you could get in the sun, it was quite pleasant. We did have one little glitch that was easily taken care of. The 80 Tonner decided to get a couple clogged fuel filters half way through the afternoon. The fix was one of our maintanence guys who was there brought the two large fuel filters up the line while we headed back up to Midway. While the people were getting off the cabeese and waiting for the trolley, they shut down the prime mover that was coughing and not running well and reved up the other a bit . The crew and the maintanence guy removed the old fuel filters and filled the new ones with diesel all the time using an old plastic bucket the keep anything from spilling all over the place. By the time the guests were boarding the trolley and the new bunch were getting off the trolley they were finished, the prime mover rolled over and the 3rd. or 4th. cylinder fired it right up. Back in business!
About all I have got accomplished after getting home tonight was too make a list of things needing to get done tomorrow!
Guess I'll check my blood sugar, take my evening pills, and head out to bed. Later!

Jeffery Thank You on the heads up about Charcot Foot. We have spoke of this before. Sometimes I would get the pain for say 30 minutes then it was gone. I have had the pain well over 24 hours now but I seldom feel it. On a scale of 1 to 10 it is a 1. I go to the VA Hosptial this coming Friday and I will tell my Doctor about it! I don't have the Symptoms they have listed but I believe there might be a problem.

I have dug out a older pair of diabetic shoes with flat soles and think I will skip the house slippers for now in the house!
Workout Had a great one tonight! Had a great looking peak (well for me ) on the Bie-Cepts and hit 10 reps on all but the arm curles, last one was only 9 reps. But I had added 2.5 pounds to every exercises! While I am no where near as strong as I was in my late 20's way better than two months ago!
Was still feeling good after the workout. So I went to see how much I could bench press! I use to bench 275 pounds, but I was around 28 at the time and very fit. All so had been lifting for two years! 3 months ago I could not bench press 75 pounds. Tonight that is history, I benched press well over 110 pounds! While 110 pounds is nothing to be proud off, I am gaining! I hope to bench press 150 pounds befor the end of 2014.
Corner Clamps I guess Home Depote or Lowes would carry them? How thick of wood will they handel?
See you all Monday

The van runs good now. Not great, but good. My nephew figured out the problem with the hot starting. Turn the key on and push the starter button. the coil won't fire. However, turn the key all the way to start and hit the starter button it'll fire up. He found it out accidentally while fooling around with the wires. Now there's a NEW problem! When he was bringing it back it blew a big hole in the radiator. So it's STILL useless to me. Tomorrow my nephew is going out in search of a triple core radiator. Here's the kicker. He set the idle way down. I told him the problem with that is that it probably won't idle worth a darn on a cold start until the engine has warmed up. He got mad and started screaming about this this and that then he went to the truck, raised the hood and took the coil wire off so I couldn't start it. I called my father and told him what he did. Presently my nephew comes back WITH the coil wire and my father close behind ready to kick him in the butt. He put the coil wire back on and that was the end of that. That's all for now. See y'all tomorrow.
Today's a day to mark on my calendar. My nephew came over and worked on my van without me having to tell him to do it. He put in a good battery, started it up then adjusted the carb until it 'sounded' good to him. That doesn't work for me as my scrambled up hearing rips the sounds apart and reassembles them in a different order. Now he's out driving it to see if see if it'll vapor lock on him. I told him that test is easy. Drive it to town, let it sit for about thirty minutes then try starting it again. If it performs as usual he's gonna need to get a jump to get it started. What's yanking my chain is he's now claiming that he 'fixed' it. He put in a battery and adjusted the carb. Gimme a break! He didn't take anything off or take anything apart. And he says there's no such thing as vapor lock. I told him that technically he's right. It's vaporization of the fuel in the line between the fuel pump and the carb. He needs to face facts. That statement would get him laughed out of any garage staffed by knowledgeable mechanics who KNOW what they're doing. Now I'm waiting to see if he brings it back in ONE piece. He took off out of here driving like some irresponsible punk kid.
Johnboy - I just sent you an answer via PM.

Good Sabbath Morning Gang,
Sure hope you are all having a fine week-end. This is a work week-end for me. I have 4:00 hours to put in this afternoon and then off for a couple of days.
Chloe, when time permits, you could rustle me up some grub. Surprize me this morning, but make sure it includes some Hot Chocolate as it is chilly out.
Planning on a trip to Billings starting this Friday. I have by booking off one shift and trading another get a week off. We are really looking forward to that as long as my wife can get a handle on the cold and allergies that have beset her. BTW. I think it was Brunton, who has his layout based out of Laurel , Montana. That is the community thaat my Son has just bought his home in. About 10 miles west of Billings.

RAY, The prognosis for a repair is not great on my throat and it involves extensive, invasive surgery, being cut from the throat to the navel, breaking the ribs open, moving a bunch of organs " and that is not music" then pulling my stomach up and attaching it to the throat. Right now at my age I am not really considering that. But, might just look elsewhere for an option. Mayo maybe?
ULRICH, I sent you a PM. I am sad to hear of the Keg Harbor being taken down. It really had a great look to it.
Birthday wishes go out to Mr. W.
Prayers go out to all in need, especially GARRY'S SIL and MIL.. BTW. Garry that was a great pix you took of the two Blue Angels. Against the clouds and over the lake it was a well put together shot.
Galaxy, Good to see you still checking in occasionally. Hope you get feeling better. Light a candle. I think all the ones that you lit for me and the Prayers and healing thoughts from others here sure made a difference to my healing. And I am grateful to all of you.
Speaking of that, I guess it is time to feed the tube, so I had better get that done, then a S---, shave and shower and off to work.
Have a great one and keep smiling Ya All.
Johnboy out..............................for now.

We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
"Sticky stuff" with some sort of bait seems to work on many creatures!
We knew we had mice, and they were getting brave by coming out at day time and sitting up to look at us. The old tired spring loaded traps were not catching any.
SO I bought the "sticky types", skeptically, and some "fresh mouse bait' in the "cheese" variety as our peanut butter trick no longer worked.
To this date we have caught 15 mice! Twice we had a "double header"...that is TWO mice on one sticky pad!
Now, the spots where they WERE coming in we stuffed some time ago with steel wool, which we were told would drive tehm away. Well, I foudn out they chewed a new hole into the kitchen floor behind the stove NEAR to where they used to get in by the plumbing in the Kitchen sink! ANd the old steel wool? welll, they just dug it out of there anyway!
We cannot spray foam in that plumbing area as we have been warned by a plumber it willl allow the pipes to freeze, and then won't get hot air to the pipe to unfreeze. WE DOn'T need that! OR the mice!
SInce they are getting smaller and smaller in size, I think we are getting the "grandkids' of the old ones.
One clue though: Use double sided tape on the back of the sticky traps as the mouse, half on and half off..will push it/pull it off somewhere you can't get to it and STINK as they die!
Its been 3 weeks and we only caught just one and haven't seen any more running around, so we think we got them all?????
Oh, and the cat? He wasn't fast enough to catch any, but they sure bothered him!

My corner clamp looks like this:
It´s another day of doing nothing, but I still don´t feel like choppin´ trees.
Todd, your Battle of the Bugs reminded me of something. We've long had problems with those little moths that like grain, pasta, birdseed, whatever. They typically find a space to make their nests up in the corners of the ceiling. Last year, Penny found the solution. Someone makes a little triangular tent thing out of cardboard that's got stickum and some sort of attractant We put these in the pantry and presto, no more moths. They are not expensive, and because the stickum is only inside the "tent," they don't get on your fingers if you touch them. Your bugs may like them, too, or perhaps they make a different version for that species.
Good morning. It's 61° with 100% humidity. The high will be 82° and cloudy. Not much happening here. I've been watching some TV programs that I had recorded on the DVR. Next I'll be starting the //e and I may play a game or two later. Other than that I have no plans.
Good morning, all.
It works either on an outside corner at the end of my benchwork, or on an inside corner where I'm running a rafter from side to side. I use a plug-in drill and a cordless screwdriver so I don't have to switch bits, and I can whip through construction very quickly.
Looks like a beautiful day out. We had clouds and then rain yesterday, but it's cleared out nicely. Really seems like fall. The bridge superstructure is almost done but I need a bit more thin wire for the supports. I only bought one piece, and I should have gotten 2. On the other hand, it's an excuse to go up to the hardware store, which I enjoy almost as much as a trip to the LHS. The hardware store has free popcorn on weekends.
Ken: Here's a photo of a corner clamp.
Howdy.
Ulrich.... Somewhere in my boxes of stuff is a 35 mm slide I took that looks just like the photo you posted. I took it in the 1960's and then the D&RGW still owned and operated the Durango and Silverton narrow guage line. I recall when the railroad shops built some steel coaches for the passenger train which were constructed to look just like the original wood coaches.
I hope everybody is having a happy Sunday!
Cheers !

cudaken Shooting Pain In The Right Foot. It started around 7:45 PM and I have had it now for all most three hours. Pain is in the top of the right foot and comes between every 15 seconds to 45 seconds some times a little longer. On a scale of pain it ranges from a 3 to a 5 out of 10. Seems to stop when I have full weight on it? Sure going to make it hard to sleep tonight if it keeps going!
Good Morning!
Janie, it´s Sunday, so I´ll go for my healthy and wholesome Sunday breakfast! You know, all these high carb, low fibre, high cholesterol things MOH would not want to see me eat! Make that a stack of pancakes with maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, buttered toast and jams, a tall glass of OJ (just to have something healthy) and coffee in an IV bag, please!
I am starting to pack up my On30 layout to be ready for the move. It´ll take another month until thy chap who bought it will come and pick it up (and, of course, lay out the cash), but I need to do something. No other plans for the day, other than toying around with some new ideas for a kind of display layout. Inspired by John de Frayissinet´s Cliffhanger layout (see the layout topics section), there is a layout idea in my head, which I would name "The Abyss". It could be based on the Rockwood section on the Durango & Silverton RR.
I doubt that I have sufficient room for it, though.
Alex W. - a big to you!
Have a happy day!
Howdy ...
Tom ACY... Nice of you to visit the diner.
Ray ... It's good to see your layout progress.
Really nice weather today, but I was inside anyhow working on the model railroad. I'm installing grab irons and details on Walthers passenger cars. It is tedius work, and I have several more to go. Also, my pair of Northern Pacific RS3's now are DCC equipped.
Both my BIL in MI and my SIL in TN are still dealing with heart problems. BIL still has complications following his recent quadruple bi-pass surgery. SIL who had a heart attack a few weeks ago, went back in the hospital a few days ago and had more heart surery. Eventually, they should be okay, but the family is worried.
I'm still happy I saw all six grandkids in our recent trip to OH and MI.
Happy Model Railroading .
