Hi Guys

Still have quite the headache, the pills are taking some of it away. I have to work today so I hope I can make it through okay. The only good thing is that its a somewhat short shift today ( 12:30-7) so I will take some pain pills soon and then again at break around 4. I have to grab something to eat even though Im not hungry I have to take this medication with some food so I dont get a upset stomach.

Talk to you guys tonight sometime

Mr. B. - I got this computer early 2009. It was available with either Windows7 or WindowsXP pre-installed, and smart me opted for WindowsXP, because that´s what I am familiar with. Migrating to Windows7 should therefore not impose a problem. I am aware, though, that my computer (an Acer Extensa 5235 notebook) will soon have  reached the end of its service life - that will be a problem, then, as I won´t be able to get a new one...

But whenever a company makes something obsolete it is a way to force you to buy new, as a former business man {?} I would think you know that silly part! If it is not "built in obsolesence" it is "no longer support" anymroe. LOL evenr when they offfer "lifetime warrantees.

In a case like this 'lifetime warrantee' refers to the estimated lifetime of the product which is usually about three years.

Jeremy - did they scan or perform an MRI of your head ? This sound like more than a headache. My wifes blurred vision and headache turned out to be a tumor. Only found it after they performed a CT Scan. My best friend headache turned out to be a ruptured blood vessel. Unfortunately he didnt make it.  I think you should insist on a scan either an MRI or CT scan.

Jeff - How are you able to access the MMR site from teh hospital ? Do they have computers there for you to use ? I ended up in teh heart attack ward once ( heart started beating out of step ) and you talk about AWFUL food ! You NEVER want to end of there especially if you are hungry. Even half starving I couldnt stomach some of that slop.

Ulrich - I have a question - The gauge you are modeling if I understand it correctly teh wheel gauge is one size and teh body size is a larger gauge ? What gauge do you landscape and and build structures to ? The larger gauge I assume ? What about teh size of people and animals ? Tht would look strange ! Small legs on a cow with an oversize body !

Afternoon folks!

Already done a days w*rk here...  Sun was out for a bit this morning, but the sky is turning ominus this afternoon...  Very likely a thunderboomer will crop up later this afternoon...

I have several errands that need to get done out and ablout, and I would like to get some more of tyhe lawn mowed before the weather turns bad.  Not terribly hot out (82°F) but very humid.

Uh...  I think I can explain.  Ulrich is modeling in O Scale, narrow Gauge.  Narrow gauge is a prototype Railroad width of the track (as in 3', 30", 2', etc).  Scale is the ratio of the model to the real (prototype) railroasd.  "O" Scale is a 1/48 ratio.  "O" Gauge is a misnomer mostly applied to "Toy Trains"  which often tend to not be in scale anyway.  (Nothing wrong with that BTW, it is just a different part of the hobby.)  In "O" scale, cows, dogs, people, and buildings are in... ah.... "O" scale.  That is 1/48th. the size of the real thing.  Calling it "O" Gauge is something that likely came from a Model put out many years ago by Lionel that stated that the Loco was "O" Standard Gauge.  Standard Gauge in that it meant it ran on 1/48th. the actual size of "Standard Gauge track" or 4' 8.5" in the prototype....  Landscape and structures aren't a guage, they are built to a "scale".

OK, time to get myself moving...  later!

YGW - there is nothing I could add to Ray´s explanation! The scale is O scale, the track gauge is 16.5mm, which happens to be the same as HO standard gauge. What I am modeling is effectively a 2 1/2 ft. gauge narrow gauge railroad, loosely following the prototype of the Maine Two-footers.

I do get some good use from it for which I'm thankful. That's usually for when I'm in the hospital or traveling in areas where there's free Wi-Fi. There's Wi-Fi out where I live but it's difficult to access from inside my trailer as it's covered with thick aircraft aluminum. My nephew came over one day and walked in while talking to somebody on his phone. The instant he stepped inside his phone went dead.

The effect of living in an all-aluminum clad trailer Like Jeffrey and I do,  is similar to living in  a Faraday cage, it is not designed exactly for the purpose a faraday cage is but can act as a  faraday cage it: {according to Wkii}:

"The reception or transmission of radio waves, a form of electromagnetic radiation, to or from an antenna within a Faraday cage is... blocked by the cage."

Our new "smart phone" cell phones CAN work now that we have the new ones, but the reception is nto clear or perfect inside the trailer. calls may not come through, or may get dropped. We have to seek out a window to be near to get better reception OR go outside like all the other trailer owners here do!

TV antennas, don't work so well inside either.

If I ever get around to having the money for and get a wifi for inside, we can actually use our tablet inside too, instead of being outside to use it,so it rarely gets used.

Jeremy B: Although  I do suffer from migraines that last as long as 3-5 days, if you still have that headache,  I strongly suggest you go to the ER as it may NOT be "just a migraine". You may regret later if you don;t find out what may be causing it.

In a case like this 'lifetime warrantee' refers to the estimated lifetime of the product which is usually about three years.

In the case of our mattress, the "lifetime warrantee warned us that "the life of the mattress is 10 years" and "no warrantee covereage will be honored after ten years form date of purchase". "Lifetime", pish posh! whose lifetime?

ANd Lifetimte warrantees for "as long as you own it" {usually a car}, well I keep a long time so I usually get my money's worth. I havet to have the right side half shaft replaced on the kia, and since I have "lifetime alignment" I will savethe cost of that after the half shaft is done, and the realignment enxt spring form pot holed winter will all alone over-repay the cost pf the "lifetime allignment" program cost, so any others are gravy and there will be more! On the 98 caravan I got about savings of 8 years worht of alingment's worth out of it. THEY COUNT on people tradng in their car aftter 4 years adn getting new ones!

Well, I had beter get off here as we have Lightning moving in, and the trailer won;'t protect if the lightning hits the power lines or trees do and damages the inside contents!

later !

Jeff do you know whos wi-fi your picking up has to one of your neighbors  cause wi-fi signal is only good for maybe 250 feet  I can pick up 4 of my neighbors on my phone  but the signals are pretty weak   except for next door and I had to go over and tell them to password protect it since I could log into it and see their pc Had to show them how  NOt good  Most at&t and cable modems are routers now with built in wi-fi

The Wi-Fi service belongs to my niece and several of the nieghbors.

Well the meals today were alright. Instead of the tiny scoop of scrambled eggs this morning I had an omelet. That was worth four of those tiny scoops. Add to that toast and cheese and it was a good breakfast. Lunch was roast chicken and salad. Not bad at all. Dinner was a cold buffet with ham, turkey, roast beef and a large salad and two slices of bread. That had sandwich written all over it. The bread, meat and some of the lettuce and salad dressing made a great sandwich.

Found out a little while ago that they can't transfer me to the Leesville Rehab Hospital. My insurance company says I'm doing too well. They do say however that I can get rehab at home. Oh joy!

Did someone let Mr. Faraday out of his cage again?

For those of you living in metal houses, do you have a wireless router inside with you, or wireless directly from your cable modem?  That should work fine as long as both you and the wireless box are inside the cage.  It will also let you use your smart phone, even though the outside service may not penetrate.

I've got an older wireless router at home.  I upgraded mine when the ladies started needing more bandwidth, but it should work well for a single user if anyone wants it.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning ...

Ulrich. You are making a very nice layout. The drawings of the freight house look good, and it should be fun building it.

Dennis ,,, I'm not familiar with those brands of track products (Bullfrog and Ross) , but I don't work with your scale. Sounds like you are making progress.

I'm back to doing work on the final section of the layout. I installed 4 turnouts and some connecting tracks yesterday. There is much more to do.

What is everybody planning to do next with their model trains and layouts?

Awsome.Glad to see someone is getting to get some modeling done. Enjoy some for me until I can get life back to an even keel.  Right now my life is so filled with stuff that I do not have time for modeling. Cant wait till the GF house is finished , sold, moved out of and I can start back to real life activities again like MRR !

Good Afternoon Folks!

Another day of not feeling well. My feet are swollen and I look like an elephant. It´s the heart,my doc says, and I have to grin and bear it until we hit a more moderate weather again.

Janie, a mug load of dark roast and a handful of those butterscotch cookies, please!

I don´t get much done these days. It took a lot of will power to get going this morning on anther set of windows for the blue building. Well, I got two of them done and there are only three mor missing, inclusing the two on the back of the red building. I also added some more trim to the blues house. Looks OK to me. The freight house will have only one window which can be seen, so I will make that myself. All other buildings will get Grandtline windows, providing I can somehow finance them and get them.

Well, I don´t think narrow gauge cars look oversized. They are much smaller than standard gauge cars of the same scale, so the proportions are OK.

Have a great day!

Morning all.  Another day of work, but today is payday so there is that.  Gonna be cooler day today than yesterday was here.  Oh my wheeling cars came yesterday, so Ican finally run a prototypical Wheeling train (even if it is short and doesn't have an EOTD).  The EOTD is part of the next order-next month when I start my wheeling business car project.  Have a great day all.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Morning guys,

The migraine I have is starting to lose its grip. There is nowhere near the pain today that I had the last few. So am glad about that. I work again today from 12:00 until 7:30. I have a long day tomorrow though working 9:30-7 and a normal 8 hour day on Saturday.

Jeff, didnt happen to see if you mentioned when you might get out of the hospital?

Talk to you guys later tonight or tomorrow sometime

Have a great day

Good morning. It's 74° with 84% humidity. The high will be 92°. There's a 30% chance of rain.

Looks like I'll be getting out of here today. My proposed transfer to the Leesville Rehab Hospital was refused by my insurance company on the grounds that I'm doing too well. So it appears I'll be sent home. How I'll be getting there remains to be seen at this point.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Cinnimon Crunch Granola with fresh blueberries and a cup of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.  What?  No!  Just put the coffee in the mug.  Put the cereal in a bowl...  (I get no respect around here...)

Sun is out for the moment here in the Finger Lakes.  The weather folks are saying today will be "Partly".  Partly what they didn't say.  Current temperature out there is 64°F with a high of 70°F later.  I will finish mowing the lawn this afternoon after I get home from the Museum.  They are having a busy day at the NYMT but only need the R&GV RR during the last groups of the day from 1:30PM to 3:00PM.  I'll be helping as a Museum Guide for those tours.

Jeremy, glad the headache is better.  Migraines are no fun!

Ulrich, that is going to be an excellent scene!  Already is.....

Jeffrey, hope your foot is healing well and you will be able to get back home soon.  One question, how do you drive your van?  It was your Right Leg that you lost wasn't it?

I best get moving as I have to shower and get ready to go out to the museum, pack my lunch, and a few other odds and ends yet this morning.

Later!

Now that I'm older here's what I've  discovered:

1.    I started out with nothing, and I still have most of  it.

2.    My wild oats are mostly enjoyed with prunes and all-bran.

3.    I finally got my head together, and now my body is falling apart.

4.    Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

5.    Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

6.    If all is not lost, then where the heck is it?

7.    It was a whole lot easier to get older, than to get wiser.

8.    Some days, you're the top dog, some days you're the hydrant; the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

9.    I wish the buck really did stop here . I sure could use a few of them.

10.  Kids in the back seat cause accidents.

11.  Accidents in the back seat cause kids.

12.  It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.

13.  The world only beats a path to your door when you're in the bathroom.

14.  If God wanted me to touch my toes, he'd have put them on my knees.

15.  When I'm finally holding all the right cards, everyone wants to play chess.

16.  It's not hard to meet expenses . . .. they're everywhere.

17.  The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

18.  These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter . . .I go somewhere
to get something, and then wonder what I'm "here after."

19.  Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

20.  HAVE I SENT THIS MESSAGE TO YOU  BEFORE?
