Dennis - It's going back some, but if I recall correctly, he was on a high fiber diet, and was suppose to stay away from things with seeds. I think there were some other restrictions but they are long forgotten. But things change, so I don't know what they recommend these days.

Jimmy - Nice photo. Maybe I'll try the other spot. I think there are 4 heritage units that I have yet to catch.

Hello. Good afternoon everyone. I will have a Dr. Pepper please and to keep Jeff happy I want some Tabasco in it too. That should be interesting. My life of late has been a bit boring. I did a lot of traveling in March and April, much of it out of country and all work related. I am now getting my life back to something that resembles normalcy. I will try to get in here more often and discuss things other than my w#rk. That subject could be VERY boring.

Galaxy, I sent you a PM.

Sorry to keep on this, but I prefer the opinions of objective guys like yourselves rather than a doctor reading from a script.  When you started taking the Metformin, did you have a period of adjustment with side effects before you felt normal again?  I've been told to expect that, but I don't know how long it takes or whether he really means "You'll get used to it."

Good to have you back with us, Johnboy.

Galaxy, sorry to hear about your mountains of meds.  I never took anything until my mid-50s, so it remains an adjustment.  When I went in for my physical a month ago, I had lost weight and felt good, and I thought I'd come out with a gold star on my report card.  Instead, I took another trip to the drug store and haven't felt right since.  I've gained weight and I feel like I'm ready for the glue factory.

Mister Beasley - I've been taking metformin since early 2011. I take an 850mg tablet twice a day with meals. I never had any side effects at all. So for me, there never was any problem. Hope this helps some.

well,

I ahve been giving thought to something lately.

I have WAY too much RR equipement ad way to many structures really for my small 3.5 x 5.1 HO scale layout.

I have been giving thought to selling, yes selling {BUT NOT HERE mind you =against the rules} some/all/part of my collection.

I was going to expand the layout in the BR it is in, but it is so crowded with other stuff that we can now not even get in the doorway! We really have littel to no storage in here this trailer comes wihtout much.

I have about given up on buying a MRRIng space with a house above it!

So, what would you think of doing if you were in my shoes?

'I know ultimately it is up to me, but looking for ideas.

side note I have a choice of dinenrs tongiht cooking all at once: BBQ BEef short ribs, Tbones marinated with sauce, sausages cooking, and will do the pasketti squash. Hmm. choices choices...

Good Evening,

Another day of gardening here with the big seed clean-up. We have a large elm and a maple tree that are shedding their seeds so it is a perpetual cycle of clean-up until they are all down.

Had a little excitement with a mouse that got into the dryer via the vent. I thought I heard something last night but wasn't sure as it stopped when I put on the light. This morning I discontected the vent and took the flex piece outside hoping the mouse was in it but no. That meant it was likely in the dryer so we gave it a 5 second burst and the mouse flew out of the back. It looked to be dead but then there was some movement so it was quickly dispatched to the river bank nearby.

Dennis, I have diverticulitis so I can sympathize. I found out I had it when I went in for a colonoscopy and when I came to was told they couldn't do it due to the diverticulitis. It hasn't caused me any problems so far. It is a common condition for people over 65 and in my case is hereditary as my mother had it as do 2 of my cousins. You will need to go on a high fiber diet and drink a fair amount of liquid daily to keep it under control. I eat bran cereal every morning and drink as much water as I can. In my case I was told it likely started early on as in my '20s once I told the doc my history.

Johnboy, good to hear from you! Good luck with getting your swallowing back under control. I was wondering how you were doing. Keep the nice weather coming this way.

We are having a fellow come tomorrow to give us an estimate on doing a bathroom reno. It won't be a major one but we do need to do some improvements. We only have one bathroom upstairs so for any future re-sale we need to do something. Besides it is looking a little shabby. We need a new vanity but will have to get one custom made as it is recessed in the wall. With this house we can't use any pre-built items. Everything must be custom built as that is how the house was originally done. Custom usually means expensive.

Well time to get ready to watch Nova.

Good evening. We have a mostly clear sky with a comfortable 78°. Tomorrow looks to be nice but rain will be returning tomorrow night.

Today wasn't a total loss. I disassembled and inspected a Disk II disk drive then put it back together and back into the closet it went. Other than that I watched some Godzilla movies from the 50's. A pair of disk II drive cables that were supposed to arrive today didn't. The mail carrier forgot to put them in the mailbox. They should come tomorrow. They were ordered last month but because they have to come from Bulgaria it takes a while. Fortunately they don't cost much.

That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

 Good Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and egg rolls pleases. Dinner

Today Front Very boring all the way around. I only had 2 customers today, both only wanted frames. No hate mail from BoS so that is good.

Galaxy Far as getting the paper work back to BoS my lawyer will handel that end. I all so need to see if she thinks I should excpet the new loan. She will be calling me Thursday.

John Boy I was MIA when you where stricken. Glad to hear you are doing better!

 Ulrich Looks out standing!

Bad Habit Front Well I have cut my Beer and smoking habit by 1/3rd so that is a start! I know, I know I need to stop completly but slowing down is a start.

Working Out Front While I am still working out my hands and forearms with the hand held thing. I am either so tired when I get home or have to many Honey Do's on my days off I have not had the time to craw under the train layout to get the weights! Bang Head My hands are getting stronger and the forearms are getting more defined. In fact the forearms are starting to feel hard when I flex my hands. I hope to get some of the weights out Thursday, I am off.

68 Road Runner Day, no Honey Do's Thursday! Yep, no honey do's, no taking Sparkie to the park and no grass cutting this Thursday! Have a couple of Mopar friends comming by and time to get going on Miss Lumpy again! I checked on the Mopar Site and it was June 2 of last year when I started working on her again. Where did the time go? Whistling I hope to be out of the house before 10:00 AM to buy some needed suppiles. Oil looke nasty the last time I looked, going to pick up a new coil as well.

 See you all later

Good Morning!

Barry - good to see you. Take care, will you?

I had a nightmare last night. I thought I had shrunk to O scale and was standing in the engine house. I tried to look out of a window, but barely couldn´t make it. Now I am a fairly tall guy, but with the lower window sill being at 5`6", looking out of a window may turn into a challenge. I knew something was wrong! I got out my surgical instruments first thing this morning and corrected it. I have to redo the cladding above the windows, that´s all the "loss" I have. It´ll be done with the next wall.

Have a good one!

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!

Today is Thursday,

June 12th, 2014!

Healing energies, thoughts

and prayers for those

among us who

need them!

Today's word and Quotable quote:

plutarchy

PRONUNCIATION:
(PLOO-tahr-kee) http://wordsmith.org/words/plutarchy.mp3

MEANING:
noun: 1. Rule by the wealthy. 2. A wealthy ruling class.

ETYMOLOGY:
The Greek biographer Plutarch (c. 46-120 CE) has no connection with this word. Rather, it's Ploutos, the god of riches in Greek mythology. The word (and its synonym plutocracy and the word plutolatry) are derived from Greek pluto- (wealth) + archos (ruler), from arkhein (to rule). Earliest documented use: 1643.

USAGE:
"Boston's upper crust made sure that they had an unfair advantage over their less fortunate neighbors, an advantage intended to perpetuate plutarchy and a socially stratified society."
Keith Krawczynski; Daily Life in the Colonial City; Greenwood; 2012.

A QUOTE FOR TODAY:

The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites or women for men. -Alice Walker, poet and novelist (b. 1944)

{Makes you wonder doesn't it?}

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

Good Thursday morning.  Kind of gray and drab here.  The commute to work was easy.  Hopefully, the trip home will be, too.  I was worried yesterday because there was a small plane crash in a town I pass through on the way home, and I'm sure the nearest road, which takes a lot of traffic, was probably a mess.  Fortunately, the plane was a Cirrus SR22.  That plane has a built in parachute that lowers the whole plane gently to the ground in case of an engine failure, so the 2 occupants were just fine.

My wife wanted a couple of empty CD "jewel boxes" for some photo disks she's putting together as gifts.  Of course, a while back I tossed a bunch of them in a cleanup effort, but I was able to find some.  Even better, and Jeffery will appreciate this, in the process I found my long-lost copy of Sim City 2000, an old computer game that I've missed.  I was able to load it up, another minor miracle since it was written for Windows 95.

The second batch of my Mantua streamliner cars have now been cleaned, masked and primed.  If it doesn't rain, I'm going to paint the red stripes on tonight.

Ulrich, please keep posting updates on that engine house.  I love it when a plan comes together.

I have a CD copy of that around here somewhere. I'm pretty sure it won't run on my Windows 8 machine.

Good morning. It's 72° with 100% humidity. The high will be 92° with moderate to heavy clouds. Showers and thunderstorms possible after late afternoon and through tomorrow.
Morning: Afternoon: with

Well the forecast says it all. Cloudy and wet. Today I'll be waiting on the Home Health nurse to call. I'm also waiting for a package with two Disk II cables to be delivered. Other than that I have no plans for today. But I'm sure something will present itself. As far as working on the layout goes the kind of work it needs I'm quite incapable of at this time.

It's XP for me. I've got W7 at work and I don't like it.  Of course, part of that is having it managed by our IT department, which still has me on IE8.

Morning all.  I am sure the tech guys here will enjoy this but, I found my copy of SimCity4 rush hour, and I reinstalled it on my Windows 7 computer with so many mods to make the game super realistic (Traffic mods, real stores, CSX,NS,etc locomotives and cars),etc.  I also caught my 18th heritage unit last night under a tornado watch

Well, my stuff for a Wheeling and Lake Erie locomotive is coming in today, so I may start on that before work.  Otherwise, I have no plans today.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Mornin'.....

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Blueberry pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast coffee this morning.

I think the last couple of weeks of Go, Go, Go has caught up to me.  I have no energy and a long list of deadlines to make...  The First meeting of the new Pack went quite well last night as we signed up 4 Cub Scouts and know of one more who is interested but wasn't there last night.  The District Executive will follow up on the lead.

I best get myself moving if I am goiung to get anything accomplished today...

Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!

Good Evening!

Time to get some rest! Flo, make that a Beer for my friend Ken and me, please. Actually, this is the only place, where I have a beer.

Ken - a letter from Maryville arrived in today´s mail - a big thank you goes in your direction!

Here is what I did today:

1. Started to play a game of Mikado, with self-made sticks

That grease-proof paper really does the trick. It prevents the parts from sticking to it when glued together.

2. ... and here is today´s achievement:

I gave the walls another, more intense wash of barn red. The tone I had yesterday was too pinkish for my taste.

Got to take the car to the garage for the 1-year service and oil change. That´s going to be a big chunk to swallow.

For some reason, I seem to have an aversion to drinking all that much water which is dumb because I have a long history of kidney stones which is aleviated by drinking tons of water. Do I do it... not so much. Guess I'd best get my tail in gear and start drinking lots of water like it or not.

Looks like the weekend weather is going to be kind of um, less than spectaular with lots of rain, low temps and high winds. Whoopee. Really windy today as well. I hate wind.

Not up to much today. Still hurting with the diverticulitis

So sit/lay around day here I come.

Cheers

I have to do the same. I buy those boxes of drink mixes at Wal-Mart. They have no or very little sugar and come in many flavors. Sure tastes a lot better than plain water.

I drink lots of water to flush my system, though I DO retain fluid and take a diuretic.

I cannot tolerate the counter-top tap water here as it has too much chlorine in it and makes me vomit, the H2O pitures that supposedly take it out DON'T , not for my taste, any way.

We buy the little bottles of flavor squirters to make flavored h2o for easier drinking. They last longer than you might think they would.

It;s not that hard to drink 8 8 oz glasses a day...an 8 oz glass is one measuring cup full. Not to bad if you have to down it to get it  dwon.

That and a daily dose  of 1.5 TBS of fiber in a cup of water a day help keep me from too much discomfoort on the Irritable Bowel syndrome front!

Ulrich, looks good, I like the deeper red better too. Around here , the red barns that are weathered, are more "scapped off"?? from things more than "faded".

Ulrich: My "train nut friend"as I call him who is as nuts about trains in model or 1:1 as we are, is NOW INTO SMALL houses! His WIfe mentioned the ones on the trailer...I suggested the WIdbey, but they are more into the smaller 8'x24' trailer models like this:

http://tinyhousetalk.com/cabin-on-wheels/

I suggest they build a first floor BR as he has a very bad back like mine and doesn't like climbing the stairs in his big victorian house let alone a ladder up to a loft in this!

or this:

http://tinyhousetalk.com/school-teacher-builds-tiny-house/

this is a nice one too:

http://tinyhousetalk.com/the-miter-box-modern-tiny-house-on-wheels-by-shelter-wise-llc/

This is a NICE one, but with a BR adn at 30' long on an 8 foot wide trailer:

http://tinyhousetalk.com/dakota-tiny-houses/

This last one here is more liek what I'd wnat too, though definitely NO ROOM for trains Unless in the eaves and loft area!

What do you think? could you live that small?

Galaxy - for me, a house of the size of the Whidbey would be bottom line. Anything smaller may be suitable for 1 person, but not for two. You need to be able to get out of each other´s way, once in a while.

 Evening Folks!

Flo, a Keg of Beer and a big Straw!

OK, first of all I had some friends over and total enjoyed seeing them! Got the old gas tank out of Miss Lumpy then it started to Storm. But the real disspoinment was again I could not get my 68 Road Runner to start! Bang Head It took less effort after she sat for 8 years?Whistling

Todd and older car people I need some help here! Here is a copy and paste from my Mopar Site.

I won't go into details about this part, but to get her started Allen (41 Husk) and I had to disconnect the engine harness and hot wire her to run. She felt strong and sounded great! Then one day she would not start! I all ready knew with no ballast resistor it could fry the point, condenser or coil.

Things I have checked or replaced.

  1 New condenser
2 Old MSD Coil that we thought was bad and replaced with a OEM type last year.
3 New Coil (was done today) Accel unit.
4 Rotor Spins so timing chain is fine.
  5 Has gas.
6 Hot wire to + side of coil is good
7 Have power to the points
8 Points are opening and closing

  What we don't have.

1 When we moved the points with a screw driver and they had power, no spark
2 Cranked her over with the coil wire grounded, no spark with any coil and we used 3 of them. One was the MSD that she would not start with, one she was running with and the brand new Accel coil.

  What I have not done.

1 Clean the contacts where the 2 points and condenser join. But we have power there?

I know new parts can be bad, so could be the new condenser is bad. Not real likely but could be.  scratchchin Same with the new coil?  nana

Now remember, she is total hot wire so there is no ballast resistor or key need to start her before! Only possibly I can think of was when I was driving her around the block was while the engine harness was not hooked to any of the ignition components. Fuse-able link was still installed and while crispy it still carried power? Headlights and such still worked? I know that could not be it, but just because it cannot be does not mean it is not the problem! Cheesy

 Any ideas?

See you all Friday, I am off again.

I had a '68 Coronet 440 back in the early 80's. One day ot wouldn't start for anything. Checked points, condenser, coil, resistor, even the ignition switch. Nada. On a supposision I ran a wire from the battery to the + terminal of the coil then cranked it over and the old beast started. There's nothing like a 426 waking up to get your blood pumping. Replaced the fusible link and the problem was fixed. No burns or anything on the old one to indicate there was a problem.

What do you think? could you live that small?

Galaxy - for me, a house of the size of the Whidbey would be bottom line. Anything smaller may be suitable for 1 person, but not for two. You need to be able to get out of each other´s way, once in a while.

He he, Ulrich!

My trian nut friend's WIFE came up with the idea of building one CHEAP, no less, but today after I fired off to him many plans, and Tiny House designs, he exclaimed on the phone "Boy! Those are TINY plans!" I said" YES they are"! I also reminded him they have a 22 Yr/old adult son living with them they had better assume will be living with them in the Tiny House as well! They won't be able to get away from him, even if his BR is the loft above their BR on the main floor,IF they have the space for a "main floor BR".{Bed Room}.

Since the son can't/won't afford to live on his own, they will HAVE To include him in plans.

But they are tired of the giant bills their giant 6 BR/ 2 Bath Victorian {mansion}with/kit./dining room/family room/Living Room/giant central halls up stairs and down stairs  is costing them, she was thinking of "saving money".

For just the two of them, MAYBE.

MOH already said NO to me on living in one, at least one with the sleeping quarters up a loft ladder. We'd have to build one with the first floor BR and then, like you said, where do you go to get away form the other. I'd like one as a travel trailer, and they can be built over time or as cheaply as you want. AS a travel trailer MOH would LOVE iT!

Train nut's wife was thinking of building one for the cheapest @ $3k-$5k, but that wont include plumbing either!

Oh well, I think "THey ARE neat though" even though small. There ARE communities of these small ones around the USA,and some are set up on properties! There is a listing for "real estate" sales of these webpage/email setups!

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good evening. It's a nice 79° here. However the sky is very cloudy so looking at the stars is out. Also the humidity is very high. At near 90% you'd feel wet all over. Speaking of wet we have a fair chance of overnight thunderstorms and showers. So a nice night out it ain't.

Got the wound vac dressing changed this morning and it was working well. I found a small leak in it and patched same. Now it's working great!

Took one of my Atlas FP7's off the display rack and tore it down for cleaning and inspection. Turns out it had some damage from the tree hit. One of the support arms that holds the front truck in place was broken off. I filed what was left of it off the truck, cut a piece of code 100 rail to fit and secured it in place with JB Weld. A short test run shows the loco runs as it should.

No computer work today with the minor exception of correcting a typo in one of the SD card archive listings.

That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

You never cease to amaze. I would have chucked it in the trash.
